Crysis: The game of two halves. The first is a visually stunning, compelling walk about, in which you get to kill dozens of Koreans, the second a sci-fi shooter; imo does this work, yes, strangely. Some have said this game is too hard, something I cannot understand, the easy setting and the multiple suit options make it a breeze, however play this on Delta and you get a whole new experience, ultra realistic 2/3 shot deaths make it a real challenge, which is the only reason this game got an 8 from me. I can pass on the photo-realistic graphics, gameplay is all that matters and when you spend 5 minutes sneaking into a base only to be discovered at the last second you're in deep trouble. Getting your keyboard layout comfortable is key too, as this game not only stretches the graphical limit of your computer, you'll also find that you wish your fingers were another 2 inches longer because you can't quite reach the key you need. It is an impressive game and will allow some flexibility as to how you approach each objective making replays fun. It's flaws, at times the AI (isn't it always) become predictable and the re-gens more annoying than a screaming kid. It has some major physics issues in some areas, shooting a helicopter down is fine, it burns, it falls from the sky, but will proceed to bounce about on the ground for infinitum because it can't lie flat, this results in a constant, very loud sound effect in your ear until you move far enough away. There's also the slight issue of guns getting stuck in walls, echoing the same audio problem as above. Overall, get this game, it is worth it. Expand

And if you disagree because of bugs, crashes, or high end graphics, then you gotta give Cry-tek a break because they were dealing with a new engine ENTIRELY and that my friends is extremely hard. 1st and foremost, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the street. Its steep system requirements are another underline of that fact. Generally, any hardcore gamer will have no problem running something like this - and even at medium graphics settings, it looks no worse than any other modern FPS. On high and very high, it really shines. The reason I don't give it a 10 is because the story is a little weak. It's one of those stories where you're really into it while you're playing it ... but try explaining it to a friend. This rating is based on how good a game it is compared to other games on the market. It's innovative (the nanosuit is a great addition), fun to play, and not too hard or too easy. The addition of delta mode makes it even more interesting - it's not harder, it's just a little different. I didn't rate this game based on its hype. It was a bit over-hyped. Perhaps that's where some of its high ratings came from, perhaps not. Hey, look at halo 3 - it's a decent game, but not even close to deserving a 10/10. Crysis didn't have THAT much hype, but just because it's overhyped doesn't mean it's any less of a great game, or any less satisfying to play. And I've never seen such excellent physics. Expand

Well, this game is simply astonishing. it's not perfect, and there are a LOT of issues, but the parts where the game shines REALLY outdo the parts that suck. A PC upgrade is completely worth it to play this game. PS: those who complain about bad performance, like the Anonymous guy, it's probably due to bad system optimization, so pay attention to those little details.

Crytek, even though there games look similar, make completely different games (about the tropical enviroments, who doesn't like to fight on a lush jungle island?). The gameplay is fantastic though, lots of enemies, lots of ammo laying around, open ended approaches to the objectives, and decent vehicles, but the physics for the vehicles really suck - the jeep/humvee vehicle floats about after hitting a hump as if it were made of styrofoam, and so does the boat. On higher difficulties the only approach to a group of enemies is to sneak up all the way, and some enemies can tank way too much damage to be realistic. My reason is simple, the key component to a good FPS is the story line, and continual action packed game play. Although this game had plenty of action, the way it was delivered is the deepest disappointment, when I say disappointment I mean repetitive scenarios. Once you have completed one mission you have for the most part completed them all. Even with the occasional twist this still leaves the story lacking in luster. Early on the player gets the feeling that this game evolves around this elite soldier and his technologically advanced suit. That sounds exciting until you get further into the story and find out that the common enemy takes as much damage as you do, the only advantage this super suit from the future really gives you is the ability to heal, blend in with the environment, jump higher and run faster. That's fine and dandy but makes no difference when being chased by a gun ship and fighting off enemy's that just don't die. Some readers call that a challenge I call it the theft of re-playability that strangles the life out of the fun factor. Great physics and awesome graphics are the true structural integrity that holds this game together, with out these two crucial parts this game would have fallen apart miserably. You may wonder after bashing this game like I have, why would I give it a 7? Well anyone who knows video games and how much work goes into them would not be so quick to give them a bad rating. This game was well constructed besides the lack of good story not terrible just not good, and after the major hype put out by the publisher, I found that this game was a bit to mediocre. But the rest of the experience frustrated me so much that its been disturbing my sleep since i finished the single player campaign. I close my eyes and think about what the h*ll happened. I longed for this game so much like everyone else. When i first jumped in i was excited and tried to kill off koreans in fancy ways until i realised all i had to to was shoot-take cover-stealth-repeat. This made me use maximum speed through the bushes and palmtrees whenever i could just to get to the next checkpoint to see if it would get better. It didnt. It got tons of worse. After the koreans came the koreans in nanosuits, you could especially tell they were koreans since they had the same behaviour as their comrades without the fancy suit. The following tankdriving and shooting was nothing special. Beautiful interiors of the alien mothership completely ruined by predatorlookalike aliens. I was happy when i finally get out of there to see the frozen jungle. Had looked forward to that. When i got out of the snowy weather and starting to drive away from the bubble i got really worried. And not without reason. Only thing left in the game was some flying through valleys and some running about at the carrier. That hunterboss on the ship looked kickass but was a complete letdown like everything else. And the bigger spaceshipfight defied all logic. How could that not blow the carrier out of the sea? Holy crap, i have not been this dissapointed for a long time.
    5 points for graphical achievements.

Hugely overrated. Many reviewers are putting this up there with the Half-Life's and Bioshock. No freakin' way. It's got a paper thin plot, no character development, crappy, slow vehicles, and horribly faked enemy accents. And NO LEVEL BOSSES! This is a generic shooter with pretty plants and should be ranked in the low 80s.

Best first person shooter in years. Its graphics are unbelievably good. Gameplay is fun and original. Even replayability is pretty high, because of the many ways the game can be played through (stealth, sniper, melee combat, guns blazing, throwing objects). Only down side is that other games' graphics will look rather ugly to you, once you've experienced Crysis.

I know this may sound premature, but Crysis is taking the Battlefield online play to a WHOLE new level by combining the best of FPS aspects. Think of a game set in the future that takes the best from BFseries, and Coutnerstrike and put it all together in a nice tasty DirectX10 package. Bam, you get Crysis.

I don't get it, I don't understand how so many people could say this game is over-hyped....I'm running it with a 3 year old system with the graphics set on low with a couple on medium and high and it has the most life like graphics I have ever seen, from the leaves on the tress to the tortoises crawling around, it's amazing. The nano-suit is really fun to use, I don't get it, I don't understand how so many people could say this game is over-hyped....I'm running it with a 3 year old system with the graphics set on low with a couple on medium and high and it has the most life like graphics I have ever seen, from the leaves on the tress to the tortoises crawling around, it's amazing. The nano-suit is really fun to use, it's powerful, but not so powerful that it breaks the game; it's simple and you can switch between the modes easily and quickly to perform complex actions like sprint up a hill, megajump and then cloak at the top. I see no major problems with the A.I. It has to track a player that is invisible a sizable amount of the time; the vehicle A.I. is a little strange, but that's only if you consider that the A.I. would rather stay in a vehicle rather than leave it, and that it continues to shoot at you with a vehicle mounted machine gun when your right next to the jeep, but he can still hit you there if he catches you; the same goes for boats. I had a moment where I was in the middle of 20-some North Koreans, so I threw a grenade at a group of them and cloaked and ran away while they were all staring at the explosion, after a bit they picked up on me and stalked me into a creek-bed and I almost didn't escape; I think that shows pretty good A.I. in a game. If I was walking the jungle with a gun looking for some jerk who just blew up my hut, it would take me more than a second to react if said guy appeared in front of me with a assault rifle. The wide expanse of this game allows for very open gameplay. In one instance you could ghost-ride a cargo truck into a command post of an enemy going at 60 to level it; in another, if you wish, you can get into a fortress by slowly infiltrating inbetween guards to get the information and get out without firing a shot. The physics in this game are almost as impressive as the graphics, especially the dynamic model dismemberment, which allows you to level trees and buildings with sometimes as little as your fists. This has come in handy often while playing for me; if I'm trapped in a building I can just switch to strength and punch a hole in the wall and leave through that hole. In the end, this game takes all the elements that have come about since Far Cry and it amplifies them, the graphics are undeniably the most advanced rendering gaming has ever seen, on PC or on Console. The newer physics they've added with structure and vegetation destruction are crazy, I personally spent 15 minutes leveling part of an island of tress just because I couldn't believe how far you could go with it, you can chop them into logs! You can punch a small tree and break it, grab it and use it for soft cover! If you throw a grenade above the forest it creates a realistic shock wave that ripples the leaves on the trees. I just don't see what could be more fun than jumping onto a building and having the roof shot away underneath you so you fall to the ground and immediately throw a grenade to a wall which explodes collapsing the building on-top of the enemies while you jump out of the hole they just shot in the ceiling; as far as action fps shooters go, that's all I could really ask for. Until they implement this kind of thing in a setting like GTA. The reason I gave it a 9 is because all of your squad members are outrageous stereotypes and talk like they're selling crack more than discussing covert-ops, the Koreans "english" voices sound cut straight out of Team America unless your playing on the absolute hardest difficulty, (something which I just don't feel like doing right now, if they had a switch between Korean and English I'd have it on Korean all the time) the grab mechanism is a little more sensitive than I'd like it and it disappointed me that when the frogs jump into the water they don't swim away; and this is really everything I dislike about this game, honestly, so far that's it, that and I don't have a $10,000 computer to run it on ultra, which isn't Cryteks fault. Yea the A.I. is sometimes stupid and will just run to random places with no cover, but try and name any game where the A.I. is flawless. If you try and notice, if you have been spotted by launching a shoulder mounted RPG into a village of KPA officers and resort to hiding in a building afterwards, the A.I. WILL flank you from all sides. You'll find yourself laughing when you pick off a few enemies, then hiding, then getting shot at from all sides as you run around the edges of a village looking for more ammo. Plus theres a range of missions where you an drive civilian cars, KPA armored jeeps, tanks, and planes. With the addition of the NANO suit you wear, you'll have fun sneaking up behind enemies with your cloaking mode, switching to strength mode and flinging enemies across the forest. Crysis is worth the buy as long as you have the system to run it. My only Con is that unless your playing on NASA's supercomputers, your not gonna get to play on Very High settings. On the plus side: open-ended gameplay, beautifully presented, the nanosuit! On the minus: graphics aim too high (I really don't understand this - it's just cuts out a huge portion of the potential market and by the time most people can play it, it will be 'old'), aliens lack 'oomph', anticlimactic.

Single player campaign is nicely textured and not quite as linear as is usual for an FPS - there are often multiple ways to reach your objectives. Not much new to be had though, there's no game element that stands out as particularly innovative once you've got past the sheer beauty of the environment. Multiplayer in particular is a bit meh, there are a million FPS offerings and this just isn't one of the best online ones. Still gets a 9 from me, but it's mostly a shallow 9 for its looks.

Give me a game that lets you destroy more of your environment than Crysis. Then let's see everyone stop complaining. Has anyone noticed that the entire plot is MEANT to throw a single American super-soldier into hordes of Korean soldiers? It's a complete mash-up of every Rambo-style plot out there, aliens and all, except with this one, the enemy is smart enough to avoid being torn down one-by-one, and actively flanks and hunts you down to be sure you don't. Does Call of Duty 4 have intelligent enemies who actively hunt you, using flanking maneuvers and every trick of the tactician's sleeve? Absolutely not, it throws waves of stupid, utterly scripted baddies at you. But like Crysis, it's a rampant blow-everything-up gunfest. The thing is: In Crysis, you have to think about your situation. Play the game on harder difficulties, and the active, sensory AI becomes quite a challenge to take on as just a single Rambo. Unlike the game's detractor's, if one can think about how they use their suit - cloaking in bursts, using strength for stealth kills and jumping getaways, speeding from cover to cover - Crysis can become quite a thrilling shooter experience. You're constantly on your toes in a combat situation, and recon is a recommended strategy - don't expect to rush head-first into the fray as in Call of Duty and expect to do anything productive. My only complaints come from the shoddy Korean voicework (especially on General Kyong), and the nigh-impossible tank controls. When you reach Onslaught on harder difficulties, I wholly recommend ditching the tank for speed/cloak, and planting C4 charges on enemy tanks. One last thing - the helicopters may be absolutely annoying, but if you know what you're doing, it's possible to avoid provoking an airstrike altogether. That's what counts - diversity of gameplay. This game has a lot of potential and there's a good base game here. The raw deathmatch mode (free for all) is actually one of the best FFA deathmatch experiences ever in FPS games and this was not realized in any reviews I read unfortunately. The weapons feel and work well. There are no show-stopping bugs but many slightly annoying small bugs. Unfortunately, raw DM gets tiresome for me after a while. A team DM mode and some other DM modes would be very welcome in the default game but very unfortunately were not included. The other multi-player mode, Power Struggle, is a nice attempt and works, however it feels incomplete. The biosuit I feel enhances both DM and Power Struggle. It does seem to drain quickly so that combining different suit functions doesn't work without good planning. There are no multiplayer squad functions like BF2/2142 and that is unfortunate. There are moments (like when the APC fires its missles!) when Crysis feels like a BF2 killer, but more often it feels that the Battlefield 2 series outshines Crysis where it counts in overall gameplay. The flying helicopter things look ugly and fly awkwardly but the other vehicles are nice. I like the vehicle/weapon/item purchasing system. The rain and weather effects are great. The explosions and sounds are great including the small nuke. The immersive, beautiful and reasonably large environments are welcome, unlike CoD4's tiny maps. Without a doubt, the primary focus of Crysis was the single player experience while multiplayer was not finished. They need to release a multiplayer expansion so very much because the direction they were headed is something I want - a Battlefield 2 killer. One of the important things for a online multiplayer FPS game is how it feels as it plays and Crysis feels responsive and reasonably smooth with minimal jerky movement of other players as they walk and move about the map (better in my opinion than CoD4 and TF2 but not as good as BF2 or BF2142). On a good server, your game won't play jerky or laggy. One nice touch is how if you try to rotate your tank turret it will bump into things if they block it - nice touch. I played it in DX9 mode, but not DX10 because of the high requirements (I have a nVidia 8800GTS 320MB with 3GB of RAM and both XP/Vista). While potentially the best online FPS of 2007, Crysis multiplayer is a bit of a disappointment because of bugs and its incompleteness. It made the holiday season release, but missed my favorite online FPS games list. That might change as patches and/or mods come out. Fingers crossed. I'm still hoping this game comes to fruition. This game was hyped a lot and I feel that the hype was not justified based on the overall multiplayer experience. If you like raw DM free-for-all, then Crysis delivers well. Expand

Aside from graphics the game's plot does need a little work. Its not that the plot sucks, its basic and mediocre.
