Utterly pointless game. Good graphics but only good with a bit of chicken. My Emperor recomends this game. My cockney weasel friend also suggests that this game is not up to today's bugweasel standards. rofling, i staggered to my desk and picked up this pos. thank you, i am so proud.

The game doesn't seem that well thought out either you have a choice to pick up almost anything thing and use it as a weapon, but why? Wen you have many type of guns. Also I'm not sure why every enemy solider has to be shot so many times before they die. I understand I'm wearing a supersuit and you will fight others in them as well but the regular wimpy koreans? This game is a bit of a sandbox which is nice so there isn't only one way to take care of a problem so it does make you feel like you are in control however overall I do regret buying this game. The graphic is awesome, but the performance is very slow. Its nearly impossible to play this game with an older system, the story is a bit boring, it is a standard story, nothing really new. The physic in this game is cool but unprecise, I often see corpses which rotating on their weapons and roofs standing on one balk and the corpses fall down like stones, its just unrealistic.

Wonder who paid the reviewers to write favourable reviews about this 'i can draw tropical islands only' engine with poor attempts to have a gameplay. A really average shooter with good graphics, if you can afford to drop 3 grand on a new pc. Far Cry was a better game by leaps and bounds. My pc is about a year old and I can only run it on medium and believe me it looks awful. These new "photorealilisitc" games like Crysis and Bioshock are proof that graphics really are not a substitute for good gameplay.

Sure the graphics are amazing. even in Low spec its not bad. but after testing it. it made me realize how many things that were very critical were left in the game. like having the end bug out and having the TAC not lock on STILL! story line is quite boring. Multiplayer wise love it. but wish they kept the gore level in that we saw in Alpha. IE corpse chunks from MOAR

It's not good level design to fill up arenas with too much stuff. This game is thwarted at every turn by trying to be graphically impressive to the point where the gameplay is either ruined or forgotten. The shrubbery at the start of the island is a perfect example of this. The engine itself has an awful time dealing with this because you can't find a patch of uncovered ground that doesn't have a destructable tree, or some stupid bush. It gets old really quickly and there aren't any memorable aspects of level design that show the designers had any idea how to make the game immersive. The kicker with the abundance of items in the environment is that to keep a decent fps I need to play on all low settings, yet I have a quad processor at 3 GHz, 6 Gb of RAM and a 512 Mb video card. This game isn't a technological or graphical marvel, it's just a long series of lazy attempts at coding, and a long forgotten purpose. This just doesn't compare to what CoD4 has, or Half Life 2 - when Valve made a physics engine they incorporated it directly into the gameplay and it ran great on existing hardware or it could look great on a top of the line new rig. When the Crytek team made this they didn't factor in gameplay at all, and were so busy patting themselves on the back from overworking the hardware that they completely forgot about the experience for players. I really wanted to like this game - but it's just misdirected. It reminds me most of Quake 4 - a poor game made on a buggy engine. The reviews of this game listed above on Metacritic are very misleading. Some even give Crysis 4 out of 5 (or 80% as Metacritic shows it), yet the quotes chosen don't tally with this. You don't miss out on anything from not buying or playing this game, there are loads of other shooters that would be better purchases. Expand

It seems kind of arbitrary therefore, like anything might suffice. It makes for a somewhat meaningless world where I never got the sense that I was killing REAL people for any REAL reason. Sure, this is an FPS, true, but the genre has been kind of stagnant since DOOM and Half-Life. Some attempt at innovation in game play and storytelling would have been refreshing. Perhaps some sense (illusion, even) of choice and consequence, non-linearity or ethical ambiguity would increase replayability value. Particularly considering that this game has been heralded as something quite special. However, there is little here that isn't monotonous and somewhat dull considering. For example, I found the cloaking ability to be far less rewarding than traditional sneaking. Almost a simplification of it... a shortcut, so that I needn't be too bothered. Similarly, simply running advances in AI and Physics in to game play represents more of an inclusion of feature sets the industry has come to expect more than it does design innovation. A mere addition of available, expected technologies on top of the game rather than a well-thought over design decision that actually alters the feel of the game for a specifically intended goal/reason consistent with the overall game. So, what redeeming qualities does the game have? The music is indeed nice, but nothing special or unique. The graphics... the graphics while indeed shiny, are not blinding for this reviewer: While the graphics are certainly impressive in a technical sense, artistic direction is lacking. Simultaneously, the environments tend to be unvaried and very reminiscent of Far Cry. Nevertheless some people will see the graphics as a reason to purchase and play through the, probably short, plot. It isn't enough for me and it's interesting to ponder what, if any, reason a person might have to come back and play this in 5 years time. Expand

It could be said to be implemented better, but is by no means a first or the greatest about it. Sure you could toss people objects, run fast, be invisible, but the game play will still for the most part come to, put armor on shoot, kill, resuply, move on. 2) The graphics - Yes impressive, for the most part I like how it looks, however, it does not reflect how the game plays nor does it fully assist in the game play. Jungle combat is primarily one sided, ie you don't see but are seen and easily shot. I have problems with the A.I. not being impeded visually by objects between player and enemy. As well there are some major clipping / texture issues with it. 3) AI - is for the most part a step, backwards. Sure it tries squad tactics, runs to use turrets and cover at times, but all too often I found it would give up to the point where I could walk up to enemies and shoot them. In one instance a boat gave up shooting at me because I was hiding behind a rock too long, to which I then swam out to it, jumped up on to it and had no resitance as I killed the occupants. Another instance, the boat driver got stuck driving into a rock. 4) Physics engine - is great over all, still some bugs as an enemy soldier died with his hand in a latice fence where the soldier, fence and a door where unable to settle for a time. Another phyics glitch happened as I approched a demolished building which did not settle where upon standing too close to a stuttering roof part killed me. The game needs work. Ok sure close combat might have been anticipated with the nano suit, which is pretty cool in the beginning gets pretty much useless later on. You occasionally use the strength feature to jump places that "randomly" stand in the way between you and the objective. After a few hours of playing I tried evading contact as much as possible, switching between speed and cloak. The game was ahead of its time, and remains probably the most demanding and impressive GFX experience 2 years after its release. Not often that can be said of a game. Having played FarCry2 and other recent games, and liked them, I still have to say Crysis has a higher 'wow' factor. I just built a new computer (i7 + 6gb ddr3 + radeon 4890) and I am replaying the game in 1900x1080xhigh detail. It is as if I had been blind and now I can see again. I will probably finish the game once again just to see all the various levels in this resolution. The attention to detail is painstaking. There are little frogs jumping around in the marshes. Flocks of gulls can be shot at, and if you get one, the bird falls limp from the sky. Trees can be destroyed, and you can level most buildings. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics are amazing... I agree with most reviews here. When the game came out, this was possibly the best looking shooter ever. And it still holds up today to most modern games, definitely. But there was a point about 3/4 the way through, once the alien levels became introduced. All the way up to the tank run through the valley when the mountain was falling apart, i was enjoying the game quite a bit. But then it turned bad very quickly as the level design and gameplay became, I'm sad to say, stale.

The end boss felt like it was very last minute, and left me quite disappointed. As memory serves, it reminded much like the end of Borderlands, a great buildup to a huge letdown. I have since played Crysis 2 and thought exactly the same thing as the 1st, except this time it was immediate, like I was being thrown right back in to the worst parts of it's predecessor. Uninteresting level design and gameplay with awesome looking graphics, which only goes so far, and then you lose interest.

It's a shame, as this game almost made it to legendary status among all it's brethren..

This half is 9 or 10 10.

Second half comes after the essence of the plot is fully revealed and then the game somehow becomes a poorly made, arcade shooter. No skill, no thinking, just moving the mouse and clicking. It's awfully boring. This par is 2/10.

Anyway, to the game itself: after fixing that issue about 3 days after buying it, I went into Crysis with some worry that it would just be a sightseeing tour with no other purpose than as a hardware benchmark. After getting into however, I found it to have interesting non-linear gameplay and tactical play thanks to your nanosuit. The way the nanosuit works is that you can direct suit power to several different abilities: speed, strength (improves throwing and jumping), armour and an invisibility cloak. These different traits as well as weapon attachments make combat varied and interesting. Bad bits? The story for starters; I know Crysis isn't exactly meant to be a masterful piece of arty writing, but I just find the story and characters to be weak and badly written. Cutscenes. Never have your character do things in cutscenes that you can do in gameplay. Visuals. This isn't really a negative in terms of engine power; because Crysis is a very good looking game, it's just that the art design is a bit bland and unimaginative. So to conclude; if you're looking for something like Far Cry, but with less frustrations and AI that isn't equipped with x-ray vision, then feel free to give Crytek your money, just don't expect much support from them. The lack of realism was my main gripe, example: helicopters that just materialise right above you, take 3 anti-tank missiles to kill, and can find you as if wallhacking. 4) Перегруженное управление на клавиатуре. Поддержка контроллера вроде бы есть, но часть действий на него нельзя повесить из-за недостатка кнопок (разработчики тупо не стали заморачиваться).

It seemed rather original, yet at the same time familiar. The game's story was nice, and the voice acting is as expected; professional. If the characters didn't talk, I wouldn't be interested in this game. While the game seems overall good, it isn't the aliens being in the game that made it bad (If you don't want aliens and just want to shoot at other humans play COD and stop trying to play other games.). The real flaw of the game is how certain features are either glitched, broken, or un-balanced. When you play this game (Even on just normal mode) your nano suit is about as good as the Korean's bullet proof vest. 10 shots to their vest and they still stand, 10 shots to yours and you die (assuming you have maximum armor!). The FY71, which looked like an AK47, had next to perfect accuracy despite being a machine gun. And the vehicle controls are just terrible. But the vehicles can get damaged and that is actually shown, which is almost never seen on games these days. Now I'm sure if you've read all the review you have noticed I haven't commented on the graphics yet. That's because... Well graphics don't make the game, so it doesn't effect my rating, whether they are bad or good. Graphics are also pretty biased, the beauty of a game is in the eyes of the player. Anyways, if you don't like the concept of the game, go play something else, if seeing aliens in a game instantly decreases your rating of the game to 1, then stop reviewing games. Overall, it's an alright but VERY frustrating game. Expand

A decade-old game with astonishingly great graphics but nothing else. Several hours in and you're still trying to dig for the sense of this game's story, while you're at it why not empty an entire clip just to kill a mere soldier.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Linear tactical sci-fi FPS that offers enhancements to weapons and options to sneak around enemies in later levels with big importance of using superpowers that are interesting addition.

The game starts off as Far Cry exploration game but soon becomes Just Cause destroying everything and at the end Tomb Raider to find out about its fantasy elements. It is comparable to Metro features.

Most levels can be solved with few options, there are more guns and ammo at the disposal when looting, it is not so tight on firepower, however you have limited slots for weapons. Fists, Pistols, 2 slots for anything else, like Shotgun, Assault rifle, Machinegun... Land bomb, Rocket launcher, Special weapon, Grenades. Player is regenerating himself.

You can use guns of cars, boats or tanks, even fists boosted by super power, speed boost, invisibility, extra armour and weapon sights. Some levels are frustrating or hold you within closed area that will eventually open up as you kill the enemies around you.

There is a solid story with FPS moments in cinematics, it is good vs evil fight, slowly showing its third faction to fight against. There was plenty of moments that kept me on the edge of survival, keeping the balance just right so player stoked with weapons will not become super strong. I played on Easy difficulty and I had few moments where it was frustrating to proceed and loaded over and over until I fought my way out. I had to learn to use all abilities to finish the game, so many features were not just optional.

There is a dark room you need a light for, persistent enemy, you need specific gun to use. When you shoot enemy from hidden position, he jumps around to be hit harder or shoots where he last saw you since you can use invisibility, same goes for some enemies. Once enemy hits you in melee, the camera pulls to them, but mostly they hit very hard killing you, so most fights are rather fought from distance.

At last, the graphics are nice, there are few issues with lighting or clipping and shaking textures. In the late game, there was big FPS drop when fighting multiple enemies. There are various environments; land, water or sky combats.

It finished in less than 9 hours with few side objectives which were involved together in main story.

Story 3/5 - more of background to what is happening and gripping by the end, however very predictable.
Combat 5/5 - its main feature is shooting, you always get the challenge and options, requires you to use tactics.
Replayability 1/5 - after you finished, you know all your abilities and enemy weaknesses, same way, same ending.
Graphics 4/5 - as stated above, nice, minor issues, unpleasant clipping, fading and light effects.

I liked Crysis' story. It didn't eclipse my favorite RPG's story, but then, I'd be an idiot to expect it to and then complain when it doesn't. All I gotta say is, MAN, this game is freaking AWESOME. With an excellent single player (*which by all means cries out for replay value) and an innovative multiplayer all in one package. This is definitely the best FPS of the year.

Great graphics, shame about the game play. This is the story of Crysis. Where is the immersion ? Sorry you can kid yourself all you like, but after the initial graphic awe there is nothing underneath. 1UP I thought gave a very honest review and didn't get caught by the hype. Crysis lacks gameplay depth and it becomes obvious very quickly. A shame.

The best looking game ever made - without a doubt. Then that's said. The gameplay, on the other hand, I didn't find that attractive or fun. It features huge open maps, instead of the classic linear routes from other FPS's, but I honestly think I prefer the linear routes. I find myself using a lot of time just running around to get to the next "checkpoint", and while the jungle looks amazing, it gets quite old quickly. The game's big gameplay apeal is the nanosuit. Now, don't be fooled by the amazing gameplay vides you've seen, because the actual game isn't that way at all. Al your powers are (greatly) limited by a power bar. Which means "Maximum Speed" only makes you sprint about 10 meters before running low, which in fact is worse than other games with a standard stamina bar for sprinting. The "Maximum Strength" is usually only used to get past certain obstacles that you either need to smash into pieces or make a super jump over. You would think it would be awesome to smash enemies in melee, but you walk terribly slow when you aren't using maximum speed. Some would say "hey just use speed to get to them and then switch to strength!" Yes, that sounds good on the paper, but in actuality it takes about a second t switch powers, and by the time you get to him, your power bar is low, so you cant punch him. The nanosuit was a great idea, but could be implemented a lot better. The shooting in the game also seems ankward. Most weapons are surprisingly unprecise and enemies can take a huge amount of bullets before dropping dead. The AI and physics system is also below standard. The enemies sometimes behave strangly and some times you'll get frustrating by the fact that they seem to be able to see and shoot you through vegatation - even from miles away. The first part of the game takes place in an ordinary jungle, but afterwards, we get enclosed in small, boring, uninspired corridors. The developers should really have deleted this part or reworked it. It was just not fun to play. When we get out agian, it's time for the frozen paradise, which Crytek hsa bragged about for months, and I have to say they had the right to brag. With all this said, Crysis isn't a terribly game. It's above the average shooter, but could easily become so much more with a few more months of development time, but EA is known for pushing deadlines before christmas. Expand

Actually 8 is being a little generous here. I don't understand the extremely high ratings for this game. The hype over the stunning graphics seems to be clouding the short and underwhelming gameplay. I was really looking forward to this title, and not just for the eye candy. Far Cry was the best first person shooter I've played next to the Half Life series. Some complained about Actually 8 is being a little generous here. I was really looking forward to this title, and not just for the eye candy. Far Cry was the best first person shooter I've played next to the Half Life series. Some complained about having to sneak too much, and that the story was crap. Well because I played that one through 3 times, I figured that this one had to be just as captivating. It's no where near the game that Far Cry is. The more I play it, the less I like it. The first jungle missions were great, but the Korean's telling me to "Die like a f*&king dog." got older faster than the mercs in Far Cry telling me, "You're dead, buddy!" The alien zero gravity thing seemed to be tacked on, (or wedged in). The graphics may be stellar (and I still had to knock the settings down lower than I should so I could get reasonable performance on my GTS 8800 640). Even if I could play this at max settings, I still don't get what the buzz is about. Graphics don't make the game. However, to end on a positive note: the nano suit is cool, and the sound is way cool. Weapons are good, and Crysis (like Far Cry) has THE best sniper rifle. Expand

This is a good fun game, no doubt, but it is not what it's been hyped to be, the graphics are great, just don't look too close lest you stop the occasional blurry texture. The gameplay is fun, just make sure you've got short-term memory loss or every shoot out is going to feel the same. But let me say this, any one who gave this game under a 5 really is running far too much This is a good fun game, no doubt, but it is not what it's been hyped to be, the graphics are great, just don't look too close lest you stop the occasional blurry texture. But let me say this, any one who gave this game under a 5 really is running far too much off some knee-jerk reaction. Like Far-Cry, the developers didn't actually promise some RPS/FPS opus that would tear down the sky (except graphically) but the community fell for the same trick AGAIN by fooling themselves into thinking it WOULD BE ONE. Crysis is a SHOOTER, a shooter with a few magical powers and weapon customization thrown in. Nothing more. If you want a story you should be playing Half Life 2. Expand

Destined to be a classic, Crysis is a creative and technological marvel that eclipses every other shooter released this year. [Holiday 2007, p.60]
  2. Crysis thrives on putting the onus on you to create your own brand of action and adventure in its stunningly beautiful locations. You and the game can haphazardly create moments of such gaming brilliance that often you pretty much have to stand up and applaud. [Christmas 2007, p.44]

This is some fast, well designed gameplay with enough options to allow players to use their own style of attack with satisfying suit abilities and weapons. Crytek has upped their attention to detail in presentation and dropped the worst parts of "Far Cry’s" story.
