Single player campaign is nicely textured and not quite as linear as is usual for an FPS - there are often multiple ways to reach your objectives. Not much new to be had though, there's no game element that stands out as particularly innovative once you've got past the sheer beauty of the environment. Multiplayer in particular is a bit meh, there are a million FPS offerings and this just isn't one of the best online ones. Still gets a 9 from me, but it's mostly a shallow 9 for its looks.

Compare this with COD4 where the environment is largely urban, the draw distance therefore much shorter. Unfortunately the game does not live up to its true potential on DX9, and is hampered by the recognized performance issues of Vista if running on DX10. Be wary of reviews moaning about graphics issues, render problems etc, on a properly specced, drivered machine, the game runs very clean, surprisingly so. Crysis has the fun of full control of every combat encounter, reminiscent of the potential of Deus Ex 1, well engineered, engaging fire fights (if you choose to play them as such), and finally outstanding eye candy throughout. If you do not have at least 2 gigs of RAm this game and most new games will run like crap, no matter what the rest of your system is like. So running this game on my system with really good frame rates I must say that the graphics for this game are deffinately the best I have ever seen. Plus this game is very long, you get a lot for you money. The story may be linear, but the game play deffinately is not you can spend your entire life running around these levels they are fricken HUGE and you dont have to progress through the levels any one way, you can use a wide range of strategies to progerss through the story. I really like the fact that this game not only had a ton of combat with human enemies, but it also has all the cool sci fi goodies that you could ever want all in one game. This game is not 100% original, it has similarities with a lot of FPS games out there. The story and graphics and gameplay all come together like a halflife halo hybrid, which is totally cool, because those are the top standars for FPS right now. I found that it was a little hard to get into this game at first, because I did not understand what was going on at first and because the game is rather difficult at first. (SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW)
The first half/two thirds of the game, when you're fighting the NK forces is really, really good. Superb gunplay, excellent environment and there is so much fun to be had with explosives. Never before have I had such fun by blowing up buildings, or blowing up anything, really. Explosions Is one thing Crysis does REALLY well, and not just in the graphical department. The start of the war (destroying the AAA in the harbour is the most intense battle I've ever seen in a game). The tank section is exhilarating and explosive, especially due to all the free rocket launchers everywhere. Funny how nobody mentions the mountain collapsing (revealing the alien fortress thing) behind the battle. Having the characters mention that might have been a good move, or even just adding radio chatter.

After entering the alien structure, things go steadily downhill for the most part. The aliens themselves are a bit boring to fight, really, with all the dynamics that made fighting the NK forces removed, the zero-gravity just feels too much like fighting underwater to make you forget about the jungle. The environment is a bit samey and disorienting, although I guess some of that was intentional due it it being "alien". If they had removed the "auto-orientate upwards" thing (perhaps by adding a button for that), it might have been a little more interesting.

In the ice sphere, gameplay improves somewhat. The alien grunt machines are more interesting to fight than the aliens themselves, but I'd still prefer the NKs (where did they all go, anyway? You don't see any of them after entering the alien machine). The way the ice sphere stops the minigun from overheating was a cool addition here. Nice design on the alien weapon Prophet gives you, especially how he added an RIS rail to it. I'm a sucker for alien/human hybrid weapons though. The environment is visually interesting, what with the extreme cold (bushes crack as you walk through them, instead of bustling out of your way) and geological upheaval. Fighting the alien flyers was cool too, like less predictable helicopters, and their deaths were cool too, what with the trailing "legs".
Exiting the sphere: The on rails shooty bit was okayish, shame they killed off the other two jeeps. Makes the whole bit pointless. Environment is pretty much the same as inside the sphere, but with no ice. Manning the AA gun was cool, shame it couldn't move. The missiles should have been homing, too, but the power of the main gun made up for that - seeing the alien flyers drop like flies gives you a nice feeling of kickass. This is removed when an indestructible alien walker comes along and kills pretty much everyone.

Leaving the island: Did I mention the game is super-duper "HOO-AH!" towards the US Military? Practically everything the US forces do make you want to give a big "HELL YEAH!" (even if you're a reserved English gentleman), namely the way your character announces that he is "U.S. Special Forces", the start of the tank level, the airstrikes, and the Marine Major who dies machinegunning the giant alien walker. Terrific fun. After retreating to the VTOL, you pilot it through a bunch of convenient canyons (rather slowly, this thing should have been much nippier [turbo was practically useless], and the controls - it should have flown upwards when you pointed up, not when you pressed space!) while blasting away at alien flyers with homing missiles and a cannon with unlimited ammo. The air-to-air combat was really fun, and is the last high point of the gameplay.

You land on the carrier, and this is where Crysis pulls a "talky level", showing off the super-realistic faces, facial animation and general character excellence. I noticed a glitche with the animaton here though, occasionally a characters legs would be "desynched" and would jerk for a second before returning to normal. The cutscene in CDC had a pause in it too, after which the Admiral continued mouthing wordlessly because his line had already been played. Overall a decent level, with nice atmosphere and graphics (zero gameplay of course). The nuclear explosion was a bit of a letdown though, especially for a game that does explosions so well otherwise.

The aliens finally attack the naval task force, you fight them off, everyone dies (including the Admiral, whose death is once again cool and redeems him for the mistake of a nuclear attack). The environment of the doomed carrier was okay, acceptable use of the flames, although adding a variable listing could have made it feel much more "in danger at sea". The alien walker battle was a bit badly designed, I expected to be able to kill it from behind, but it could only be damaged from the front. Getting frozen was a bit aggravating too. The super-final boss was a bit boring, (it's big cannon should have blown the Carrier superstructure to bits instead of... no noticeable visual effect. I guess they'd run out of budget by this point), and the nuclear grenade launcher you carry didn't look as pretty as it should have. Once it is defeated, you get picked up by Psycho and whatshername in a VTOL and escape, cue ending cutscene. Very poor ending, I thought.

    IN CONCLUSION:
Game stops being incredibly awesome when you enter the alien structure, and drops to merely being a good shooter. Up to that point, though, it's probably the best shooter I've ever played. Definitely worth your money, because what with the super-easy-to-mod engine, we'll be seeing some cool modifications.

I've probably listed the faults in such a way that exaggerates them, they're really not all that bad. The game is incredible. Apologies for stupid length of this review.

The four suit modes (Armor, Speed, Strength, and Cloak) create new ways to approach a situation. You could either run and gun in armor mode, pick them off one by one with your speed and rocket off before they have a chance to shoot you, beat the living **** out of them, or go for the stealthy approach and sneak around to flank. The game still has a feeling of lineage through the pseudo-sandbox gameplay, but there is enough variation to keep it interesting through the entire game, and even another playthrough. The AI could use some minor work, but there were only a few incidents where it was as bad as many people say. The graphics are amazing, and this goes without saying. Even to today's standards they are slightly above par. Not a game to play on your family Pentium 3 computer, it does require a nice graphics card to get the most out of it. The game is not perfect however. The physics sometimes likes to glitch ie, on a few occasions i will touch a large moving object and be instantly killed. It's a minor problem considering how infrequently it occurs, and since you can quicksave any time, a death won't set you back that far (provided you save). The storyline is solid, and I have no major qualms with it. The characters are likeable, and don't whine too much about your performance. The unveiling of the true enemies is done very well, and creates an air of suspense throughout the first third of the game. The game has no major problems other than the few aforementioned glitches and iffy AI. Personally, I found the game to be quite difficult. I played through on Normal difficulty and found it to be quite a challenge. Something that got quite frustrating was that there is a lot going on at once, and a lot to keep track of which spells frequent deaths. There are a few "Are you f*cking kidding me!?" moments which are frustrating. However, the difficulty does give you a feeling of accomplishment when you do succeed. Crysis is an intriguing masterpiece with only a few minor problems, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the FPS genre. Most decent gaming computers should be able to run the game on at least medium settings. For a reference point I played the game on an i7 720QM (1.6Ghz), 8Gb RAM, Mobility Radeon 5870 1Gb DDR5, and I played on high settings with 2x AA 1650 x 1050 and got very acceptable fps (30 or higher) except during a few graphics intensive scenes of the game. A Great Game, With lush Visuals when you use graphic mods anyway. Nice Selection of Weapons and levels. Works perfectly with DX9/XP performance. Runs like Crap or weird in Windows 7. The AI is perfectly match as well, even on the Hard level you can complete a level without dying too much. Only flaw is the Boat, too bored to drive.

This is all great but some of the technical issues hinder the experience. The game suffers from optimisation issues and runs fairly poorly even with modern hardware. Also the game can and will crash at times due various reasons. Mostly bugs which were never patched.

It has great, well balanced gameplay and all the guns work as they should and don't make stupid mistakes e.g. Overpowered pistols, underpowered snipers etc. but that's not the reason I bought this game. I bought it for the Nanosuit! It gives the main character, Nomad, the ability to augment his skills in-game to suit the situation. He can turn invisible, make himself as strong as the Hulk, have bullets deflect as if they were paper or run like a speeding bullet (literally!). Overall awesome single player game that would've had a 10 from me had multiplayer been excluded! One of the very pleasant aspects of this game is that it makes you rethink what you just did, even if you succeeded. There are so many ways to attack the problems, that I sometimes just reload from a checkpoint to try it another way, even if I aced it. The best thing about Crysis is the playability. With well mapped keys (I don't like the default layout), you don't even think about it any more. It all just flows naturally and smoothly. The NPC AI is a bit on the stupid side and if you don't just rush into a crowd, it's pretty easy to pick them off one at a time by luring them where you want, but there are enough clusters of enemies to make this occasionally challenging until you find the best path through them. The nanosuit is what really makes this game fun, and it allows for a variety of tactics: you can sneak around making stealth kills with silenced weapons or run in guns blazing--even crush enemies by throwing crates on them. Despite all the great things about this game, it does fall short of being truly sandbox: while you have a fair amount of control over your route to the target (sneaking in the jungle, taking the road, climbing buildings) often you end up only having one way to finish the mission, which is usually just shooting your way past enemy defenses. Also, like its predecessor, Far Cry, the vehicles are awkward to drive and rarely worth the trouble. Overall, however, this game is a must-play for any fan of the FPS genre. Expand

You take the role of a USS Marines called Nomad, and your mission is to find what the North Koreans have discovered.

In the very beginning you and your team also find that you are not alone, that other living beings are with you.

The game features both futurist and real weapons, and great weapon customizations, such as adding LAMs, silencers, add (or change)different Iron Sights.

The game is also centered around the futuristic Bionic Exoskeleton-Suit called Nanosuit. This Nanosuit gives the user relatively superhuman forces, such as super speed, greatly improved jumps, and strength. This modules can be uses only one-per-time, and are called Maximum: Strength, Speed, Armor. The armor mode drastically improves suit's bulletproof ability and only strong and high-caliber will be able to damage/dramatically damage you.

This suit also contains a Cloaking device, which will made the user completely invisible.

The game is set in an open-world island, where the action begins.

The game play feels as well free, without making you feel that the plot is introduced with force, and the story progression goes in an logical order.

The dialogues, the conflicts, and the characters are well written and developed, and make their own contribution on the game's setting.

The visuals and physics are just awesome, nicely built, with dynamic light, effects, and realistic behavior and intelligence.

Sound Design and music is great as well, the nice voice acting, real weapon sounds, world and environment sound, this all make the things more interesting and make you willingly progress though the game.

The game also has a deathmatch style multiplayer among with others, so Crysis has all the ingredients to be one of the greatest FPS ever made.

It was okay, but not as good as it could be. Then I played Far Cry 2, which was not a direct sequel, and was actually made by a different developer (Ubisoft Montreal, the same company that gave us Assassin's Creed). It was a great game despite having some flaws with its story and gameplay. After playing both of these games, I decided to play Crysis, as I had a PC that was powerful enough to run it. So, is this game an amazing shooter that you will remember, or is it a forgettable mess of Michael Bay proportions? Let's find out. The gameplay of this game may seem like any other first-person shooter you have already played at first, but in reality it is quite different. Crysis has all of the mechanics from a first-person shooter you have come to expect. There are multiple weapons to choose from, you play as a character with an armored suit, and there are plenty of enemies for you to shoot. However, one big difference between this shooter and other shooters is how huge the levels are. The levels of this game are all on an island, and none of the levels are linear in the slightest. You can do missions however you want, and there are many many ways of accomplishing your goals. Your character's suit of armor, called a nano-suit, gives you superhuman like abilities to help you out. You can use maximum armor if you prefer a run and gun approach, maximum strength if you want to throw things at people with superhuman strength, maximum speed if you want to do things as fast as you possibly can, and finally clock if you want to use stealth to attack people. There are also several vehicles you can use to help wreak havoc on the enemies. Because there are several ways to complete your missions, this game becomes a lot more fun, as you can technically do whatever you want to complete your goals. The gameplay of this game may be like a lot of other first person shooters that came out before it, but because of the mechanics in this game, what's old will most likely feel new again. As for the graphics, words cannot describe how beautiful this game really is. This is literally the most graphically impressive game I have ever played. I have never played a game with better graphics than this. Everything in this game looks absolutely beautiful, from the trees and plants of the tropical forests, to the soldiers you fight, to the textures of the bases the enemies hide out in. No game even comes close to the level of graphical detail that this game has, not Skyrim, not BioShock Infinite, not Far Cry 2, none of them. The one and only problem with this game's advanced graphics is that you will need a powerful PC in order to fully experience it. Otherwise, the game will never run at the graphical efficiency that it could be running. This game can kill as many PCs as the most recent Battlefield games can, and it came out back in 2007. Still though, overall, the graphics of this game are absolutely spectacular. As for the story, it is great too. Some people may consider it a reimagining of the original Far Cry, but it is still a great story. You play as a character named Nomad, as you and your squad of nano-suit soldiers answer a distress signal from an island. While there, you must fight the Korean armed forces, and discover the hidden secrets of the island. The plot has several twists, and makes the game that much more fun to play through. While this game is not up to levels of other games in terms of story, it is still a great story nonetheless. Overall, this is fantastic game, that perfectly shows everything that is good in PC gaming. This game has fun gameplay, a great story, and spectacular graphics that make even the Xbox One and Playstation 4's graphics look bad. It is a truly great game for PC that absolutely must be played. Just make sure that your PC is up to the task. After all, this game's graphical requirements may kill most PCs.

But is it a good game? In short, it most certainly is.

The premise of the game involves you playing as a supersoldier clad in a state-of-the-art Nanosuit, being dispatched to infiltrate North Korean-held territory on the fictional Ling Shan Islands. But the island hides a terrible secret just waiting to be unleashed...

A good premise for sure. Very solid storyline and while most characters aren't very developed, this isn't the main intent of the game in the first place.

Now for the graphics. And oh my god are they amazing. Back in 2007, this was THE best looking game that had ever existed and will exist for the next two or three years (Sorry Killzone 2 fans, Crysis was better :P).
Cryengine 2 boasts better visuals than the cut-down Cryengine 3 that exists in the sequels today. In today's standards, Crysis is still one of the best graphical showcases in existence.

The gameplay itself is very solid, featuring tight and polished gunplay and a well-designed stealth aspect utilizing all of the Nanosuit's functions. However, you'll end up using the cloak more often than the others if you take the quiet approach to encounters. Enemy AI is among the best I've seen in an FPS, as they intelligently take cover when fired upon, search all over for you when you cloak and hide, and even attempt to outflank you when you are taking cover. This is more prevalent in the higher difficulty settings, which helps to provide a rewarding experience.

In sum it up, Crysis is a technological masterpiece and a great experience. IF you've got the hardware to support it.

Crysis is one of those games that looks great, has a good premise, and feels revolutionary when engaging in FPS combat. The story is dry and doesn't resolve anything to quench your thirst, but still leaves you intrigued to play on. That isn't to say that the story is bad, but I felt it could have followed a different direction.

The Nanosuit is truly the centrepiece of the game and everything balances on how you use it effectively. Another likeable attribute is the ability to customise your weapons in real time, proving useful on more than one occasion.

Missions are non-linear open maps that don't confine you to a corridor-like experiences and allow you to play around with tactics and approaches through multiple playthroughs.

However, the most annoying aspect of the game is the underwhelming nature of the Nanosuit during conflict. The enemy AI is ruthless, if not persistent in ensuring your demise, which is made worse by the fact that you are alone against an entire army most of the time. This mimics Far Cry's premise closely and undermines the 'kick-ass' aspect of the Nanosuit. You will spend most of your time using cloak to evade enemy patrols and avoid the short 10 second 'respawn at the last saved checkpoint' screen.

When allies do appear, they will stand around vaguely and during the first few chapters, only use their weapons in cinematics or not at all. This indicates their strictly programmed nature and thus their overall inflexiblity during the first few hours of gameplay.

The weapons in the game are nice: the Gauss Rifle and the Scar Rifle are personal favourites, but ammunition for them is a little scarce, forcing you to resort to using enemy weapons.

*Swim too far into the water during the first mission and you get eaten by a 'surprise' shark.*

Use your in-built binoculars to mark enemy locations and you might spot one soldier taking a leak. This makes up for some light humour.

You can also trip over and die if you engage the speed mode and run thoughtlessly over an object.

Punch down a roof on top of you and (you guessed it) more demise.

Trying to go in with guns blazing is very risky. You'll regret it most when enemy reinforcements appear and start tossing grenades, proving that Armour mode is only good for depleting your energy reserves.

Stealth is the main option for most encounters as you can safely target enemies and perhaps dishevel them from a distance, but when an enemy helicopter comes to town you will be ducking for cover as it will rain missiles down on you like there ain't no tomorrow. You're best in these situations to keep a full missile launcher on your person at all times. Fortunately all 'solid' buildings provide perfect cover and you're best to sneak out under your 'cloak' with your ML at the ready.

Shoot and your cloak fails, exposing you as though you forgot to bring your clothes to work with you. Usually a hasty retreat to cover allows your energy to recharge moderately quickly.

Throughout the game, there is only one mission that is truly unforgivable (Core). The rest are mostly fun to play around with.

The best approach to this game is to be tactically inclined (i.e. have a plan of attack before engaging enemy goons). You'll breathe alot easier because of it.

Crysis isn't a bad game, but it does lean towards style over substance at times. Once you get past the average dry story, the frustratingly underwhelming Nanosuit or the ruthless enemy AI, you will have yourself a good time figuring out what's happening on Lingshan.

Okay. I understand every person is unique and different than others. But how can someone don't like this game. It had best graphics, good story and tolerable game play in 2007. Even the soundtracks were amazing. I think some people are just not fair to give this game accurate scores.

If i have to criticize this game there is one thing that bothers me- shooting doesn't feel right.

I completed the game yesterday( played after 8 yrs) as my old laptop didn't support. It was different from other games I played. I also faced crashes at some points. I thought its because of playing in VERY HIGH graphic settings.

[10/10] Game-play : Simply, it is a combination of Call of Duty, Battlefield and Project IGI(anyone remember ??).
    - Because its fast-paced and requires lot of action like COD, when it comes to alien attack.
    - Like battlefield, you can play with tanks, cars and VTOL (jet) and gigantic map, you can explore a lot [Obviously, its EA, they followed after successful hit of Battlefield 2].
    - Its almost same as Project IGI in terms of Stealth mode, you have to plan before take a move. Sometimes, its not good to be aggressive like COD player. You have arrive at best way of attacking after many attempts of failure. Initially, I didn't like it but it felt good playing like that.
Also, players will be swinging here and there for cover, so it made me tough kill them at many stages. In COD, BF till now, minimum 50% of my shots are head shots. Aliens are BS just come in front of me, killed with my bare-hand in strength mode.

[9/10] Weapons : Didn't come across many weapons, all are basic like snipers, machine guns, shot guns and assault rifles and I didn't see any futuristic weapon except one [anyway, not a better one compared to basic ones] but all satisfied the needs of the level completion.
Remember, its not COD, bullets fire at HIGH RPM, so you will run out of bullets very soon unless you know how to use it. Try switching to semi [if available]. Start grabbing enemies' weapon.
But Nano suits are awesome. I don't know why people don't like that. You should know, at what time, you have to switch to which mode. Most of the time, I used armour, stealth mode. I enjoyed poking around the enemies in cloak mode. Most disappointing thing is, its tough to kill an enemy in nano suit with your bullets, grenade but easy with a throw of barrel.

[9/10] Sound quality : it was good but I didn't like it as it caused me head ache with my headphones on. They should have provided separate Music, Voice adjustments. Many times I missed out the voice/commands from my team mates while I am in the middle of fight.

[10/10] Graphics : In 2007, this graphics was a kind of best in industry. And in VERY HIGH graphics settings it was awesome. Collapsing of objects due to impact of bullets, bombs was awesome. Heard like graphics are not optimised to play in computer without graphics card.

[7/10] Story : Just thinking of this game alone, It was good but not awesome as I never played such alien based theme. Blaming the Koreans research and ending up with aliens is kind of good twist but they could have introduced many characters to make it a good story. They should have reduced the time of core mission as there is no action in that apart from dark-headache causing stuff.

PS: My rating doesn't consider multi-player point-of-view as I never tried and not going to :)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game stands in my memory as one of the greats. I was one of the lucky few to be able to play this on high settings upon release. No idea how I had such a PC, but I did. Near perfect game. The ONLY downside was that when you begin to fight the alien robot things the fun of the experience goes down a bit. You no longer feel like a predator and the novel feeling the game gave you was gone, replaced by the feeling that you were playing a standard type of shooter. A great one, but a standard one. Expand

Fora isso, o jogo é demais, tô amando o game e indo pro segundo agora!

Easily the best Crysis game ever made, the original one. Its central mechanics which revolve around the suit are brilliant, the graphics are gorgeous (although that shouldn't be the top priority), the gunplay and pacing are solid, however sometimes the game can get a bit repetitive.

Gladly, after doing those remedies, It rewards you with one of the beautiful scenery that still holds up to the standard graphics today. One thing that captivates me is how the trees and vegetation felt like breathing, making the whole island alive.

The protagonist has a lot of features similar to a Predator which quite the Gameplay revolves around other than being a military shooter. The map also gives you the illusion that it was Open World even though it was relatively linear.

This wasn't really a Spoiler since it tells you in the beginning, but just wanted to point out that the In-game date was just last month (August 7th 2020) which kinda alarming because it was also take place in my local country.

It's no where near the game that Far Cry is. The more I play it, the less I like it. The first jungle missions were great, but the Korean's telling me to "Die like a f*&king dog." got older faster than the mercs in Far Cry telling me, "You're dead, buddy!" The alien zero gravity thing seemed to be tacked on, (or wedged in). The graphics may be stellar (and I still had to knock the settings down lower than I should so I could get reasonable performance on my GTS 8800 640). Even if I could play this at max settings, I still don't get what the buzz is about. Graphics don't make the game. However, to end on a positive note: the nano suit is cool, and the sound is way cool. Weapons are good, and Crysis (like Far Cry) has THE best sniper rifle. Expand

I can pass on the photo-realistic graphics, gameplay is all that matters and when you spend 5 minutes sneaking into a base only to be discovered at the last second you're in deep trouble. Getting your keyboard layout comfortable is key too, as this game not only stretches the graphical limit of your computer, you'll also find that you wish your fingers were another 2 inches longer because you can't quite reach the key you need. It is an impressive game and will allow some flexibility as to how you approach each objective making replays fun. It's flaws, at times the AI (isn't it always) become predictable and the re-gens more annoying than a screaming kid. It has some major physics issues in some areas, shooting a helicopter down is fine, it burns, it falls from the sky, but will proceed to bounce about on the ground for infinitum because it can't lie flat, this results in a constant, very loud sound effect in your ear until you move far enough away. There's also the slight issue of guns getting stuck in walls, echoing the same audio problem as above. Overall, get this game, it is worth it. Expand

The gameplay is fantastic though, lots of enemies, lots of ammo laying around, open ended approaches to the objectives, and decent vehicles, but the physics for the vehicles really suck - the jeep/humvee vehicle floats about after hitting a hump as if it were made of styrofoam, and so does the boat. On higher difficulties the only approach to a group of enemies is to sneak up all the way, and some enemies can tank way too much damage to be realistic. On the plus side: open-ended gameplay, beautifully presented, the nanosuit! On the minus: graphics aim too high (I really don't understand this - it's just cuts out a huge portion of the potential market and by the time most people can play it, it will be 'old'), aliens lack 'oomph', anticlimactic.

Has anyone It's people like John D. down there who are convinced by their friends that a game is so horrible before they play it, that when they finally do, they're jaded and filled with that crappy propaganda "friends" tend to feed to gullible people. Give me a game that lets you destroy more of your environment than Crysis. Then let's see everyone stop complaining. Has anyone noticed that the entire plot is MEANT to throw a single American super-soldier into hordes of Korean soldiers? It's a complete mash-up of every Rambo-style plot out there, aliens and all, except with this one, the enemy is smart enough to avoid being torn down one-by-one, and actively flanks and hunts you down to be sure you don't. Does Call of Duty 4 have intelligent enemies who actively hunt you, using flanking maneuvers and every trick of the tactician's sleeve? Absolutely not, it throws waves of stupid, utterly scripted baddies at you. But like Crysis, it's a rampant blow-everything-up gunfest. The thing is: In Crysis, you have to think about your situation. Play the game on harder difficulties, and the active, sensory AI becomes quite a challenge to take on as just a single Rambo. Unlike the game's detractor's, if one can think about how they use their suit - cloaking in bursts, using strength for stealth kills and jumping getaways, speeding from cover to cover - Crysis can become quite a thrilling shooter experience. You're constantly on your toes in a combat situation, and recon is a recommended strategy - don't expect to rush head-first into the fray as in Call of Duty and expect to do anything productive. My only complaints come from the shoddy Korean voicework (especially on General Kyong), and the nigh-impossible tank controls. When you reach Onslaught on harder difficulties, I wholly recommend ditching the tank for speed/cloak, and planting C4 charges on enemy tanks. One last thing - the helicopters may be absolutely annoying, but if you know what you're doing, it's possible to avoid provoking an airstrike altogether. That's what counts - diversity of gameplay. Running on Cryengine2 with DX10 support gives this one arguably the best graphics of any game, any genre, any platform. However, under the pretty shell there is a game that is sure to dissapoint. Not because it isn't amazing, but because it isn't mega super crazy amazing. Hype is never good for a game because you end up disappointed, and this is how I was with Crysis. The Nanosuit is cool, the AI for the Koreans in exceptional but its going to take a few more iterations to get this formula just perfect. Overall, however, this game outshines any other action game made to date and I would recommend it to anyone with a machine capable of running it at at least high settings, anything lower is, I think, an insult to the engine. Besides beautiful graphics the game doesn't offer a lot. The storyline is merely OK, the system requirements are out of range for many PC gamers. Developers need to understand that graphics isn't everything that the game should offer.

Single player comments (have not tried multi yet) If you have a decent machine this game's graphics will wow you. The first half of the game had me hooked with it's open-ended jungle gameplay. Regrettably the second half of the game (although good) was much more linear and seemed to end very quickly. The 2nd half felt just like another shooter. Graphics are excellent, campaign is good (however resembles far cry a bit too much) and multiplayer power struggle is WAY too complicated But overall very good game.

Amazing game, like nothing I've played before. My only turn down for now is the insane rig requirements as i barely scratch 17FPS at 1280x1024 on Very High no AA/AF. And the ending to the storyline is a bit disappointing. Other than that it's a amazing experience.

I loved the first levels killing North Koreans, the suit is brilliant and graphics are jaw dropping amazing. I was having a brilliant time and thought this was the best game I've played to date. Multi player has potential but seems to still be in beta stage. Overall I was left disappointed I really thought this would be the game of the year but for me that award goes to Bioshock which kept me truly entertained from beginning to end Expand

Beautiful and impressive. The first half of the game is amazing to play through! The sheer freedom you get when attempting missions early on is great, and you feel badass taking on what seems like an entire army. The game REALLY dropped after the Alien Ship (though the atmosphere inside was incredible, and the little skirmishes with smaller aliens outside were enjoyable) - it became Beautiful and impressive. The game REALLY dropped after the Alien Ship (though the atmosphere inside was incredible, and the little skirmishes with smaller aliens outside were enjoyable) - it became stale, it got very linear, and the aliens just weren't impressive anymore. On top of that, I didn't see any need for any suit abilities besides armor at that point - there's no running from the flying aliens, you certainly can't punch them, and you're defending objectives most of the time, so cloaking doesn't help. That section aside, the Sandbox editor should keep me very happy for a while. Expand

Destined to be a classic, Crysis is a creative and technological marvel that eclipses every other shooter released this year. [Holiday 2007, p.60]
  2. Crysis thrives on putting the onus on you to create your own brand of action and adventure in its stunningly beautiful locations. You and the game can haphazardly create moments of such gaming brilliance that often you pretty much have to stand up and applaud. [Christmas 2007, p.44]

This is some fast, well designed gameplay with enough options to allow players to use their own style of attack with satisfying suit abilities and weapons. Crytek has upped their attention to detail in presentation and dropped the worst parts of "Far Cry’s" story.
