In other words, you really don't have options or good choices to make, and there really isn't that much of a story line to this program. It's just a shoot'em up. The mechanics, graphics, and the smoothness of play are good, even for the extra dumb bots that are added to keep the sides even. However, the methods for progression rank very low, and the acquiring of certain materials reminds me of a lot of games that are just not appealing anymore. The programmer has incorporated a market where players are to sell and buy other players items, however, it has it's quirks and doesn't seem to work very well. I ask myself, why even have this type of market with player interaction? Put up a plain store with ALL the items available for buying and selling and leave the players out of trying to auction off their stuff. Too much overhead in the code, and slows down the front end of the game. However, getting into the missions, each scenario is very fast paced (team against team). A player can get into trouble fast when the sharks start to circle, and the missions usually last only about 2-3 minutes. Possibly if there were more players on the field, the game would move a little slower, but I find each mission is being supplemented with bots because there aren't enough real players taking the field. Not to say the bots programming is not very good, but they are predictable, When a melee occurs, the bots will come out on the bottom as cannon fodder. But, when it does come to head on combat, I have found that the damage from some of the weaponry is over exaggerated in many cases, and the game does not account for how well a vehicle is actually constructed. Instead, each piece is given a mass rating and doesn't really matter if the coder didn't take any engineering courses in stress of materials, the pieces all fall off when hit by a shot that over powers that one pieces critical mass. This takes away from the game. I have found that a strong vehicle that uses more weld points, isn't any better off than one strung out a mile long that has each item only attached by two weld points. And since we are talking construction and materials, I find the game doesn't address deflection points, or angles of attack. Or, maybe it does, but the players never see how well this type of defense works, or not, because the data provided after each mission is very limited. Anyway, I have found multiple bugs in the game, and I do like the fast pace of the battles, just not fond of losing to the unbalanced siding generated by the computer. Expand

Basically Crossout could be roughly described as "Post - Apocalyptic World of Tanks" if it wasn't for a couple of things, which make the game truly unique and interesting. The first is building mode. Instead of fighting on the pre - made vehicles, you compose your car from scratch, while paying attention to speed, protection, weapons and so on. It offers you a great creative freedom and I know a couple of guys who spent countless hours just building stuff and experimenting with it. Oh, and if you don't want to spend your time in the garage and just want to fight, there is a number of prepared crafts that you can pick.
The second interesting aspect is the in-game Market. The prices are controlled by the players which means that, like in real life, they can change, but eventually they always stabilize themselves. Another great thing is that even though Crossout (like all the other F2P games) has DLC and micro -
transactions, you can basically forget about them as all of the parts from paid - packs are available on the market!
It's also worth mentioning that the game has pretty great sound design. Both the effects and music are awesome - guns sound like they should and if you have cool headphones or speakers then you will feel like being in the middle of a real battle.
It's not a perfect game, obviously. For example, the game has some issues with balance and the grind can be quite repetitive from time to time. But Crossout is in Open Beta stage and it's developing. The updates are being released almost each week and if you have any questions, you can always go to their forum and ask the devs themselves.
All in all, I think Crossout is fun and if devs keep developing the game, it has a potential to become of the most noticeable representatives of the F2P - mmo action games.

In Crossout, the players are survivors of an unspecified apocalypse, roaming the wastelands in their welded-together scrap cars. If this sounds like a movie involving Roads and Warriors, well, yeah. Players alternately compete and cooperate to fight other players or server-controlled opponents in matches that never take more than a few minutes to complete. In most cases the player teams are chosen randomly for each match based upon the "power score" of the car the player has assembled; you can be teamed with someone in one match and shooting his face off with an 88mm cannon two minutes later.

As players level they gain more and more junk parts to assemble their cars. There is also an in-game marketplace where players buy and sell the junk they earn and the pieces they craft. Building an endless number of variations of combat cars is half the fun of the game, and the build interface is excellent. The market is where high-powered car pieces and weapons can be bought and sold, and this is primarily where the pay-aspect comes in. While players who do not pay can earn plenty of in-game currency, your real dollars buy more such currency. Aside from cosmetic differences, there is really nothing you can buy with real money that you can't eventually buy with what you earn just for playing the game. This is the best mix of free-to-play and microtransaction I have seen in a game like this; anyone that tells you that it's "pay to win" is just plain lying. It's pay-to-be-impatient, and a good player with mediocre gear can easily slaughter a player whose only skill is buying credits.

You know a game has decent balance when nobody agrees on what's "overpowered". The game is also fairly stable; on my Windows installation it's never crashed. The only technical problems have been glitches in the "matchmaker" (it's no fun to be the 2000-power guy in a match in which everyone else is 5000 or better), and occasional networking problems on the server end.

This would be one of the best games out there, especially as it can be well-played completely free, except...

    ...except for your fellow players.

The chat in Crossout is toxic. There's no other way to describe it. Rampant anti-semitism, homophobia, aggressive trash-talk and empty (but graphic) threats are all a near-constant. The in-game moderators are seldom present (or are playing rather than moderating), and are extremely inconsistent in their application of the chat rules; some are strict, others seem to be as much a part of the problem as the trolls they are supposed to be moderating. As the worst they seem to do is to mute someone from chat, there is no incentive for a player to respect a moderator; indeed, it is common to see people openly telling the moderators to f-off and taunting them, daring them to chat-ban them for a WHOLE HOUR. Coupled with a terms-of-service that tries to forbid players from discussing any interactions with the moderators (catch me if you can, Gaijin!), it all adds up to an experience that is as hostile as any X-box chat you will encounter.

Seriously, if anything kills Crossout it will be the fact that the trolls, not the moderators, control the game. This is a pity, because Crossout could otherwise be one of the greats. The gameplay is there; the good balance between free-to-play and microtransactions is there; the technical and graphics are there. The will to control the screaming teenagers-in-mind is not. The hope is that Gaijin addresses this and grows the proverbial pair, and if they do I will happily reward them with dollars that won't help me win matches. Until then, I'm couch-surfing their game until frustration exceeds fun... which may be sooner rather than later.

Theme and mechanics of the game are great. Creating a driveable combat vehicle out of random parts of other cars you've found and gathering a big scrapheap to craft surprisingly effective and safe weaponry is executed very well and allows very unique designs. The combat is well made, giving options to plays from far-off artillery cannon to fast ambush melee brawler. Combat areas are also good, having varied maps with good balance of tight corners to hide behind to more open areas for doing mad donuts around your opponents. Combat mechanics are very much excellent and play very well with the construction mechanics. Larger weapons feel impactful, with deafening near hits to the fact, that if you bolt a 57mm cannon on top of your fast and light buggy, it's gonna flip! Damage mechanics are also nice as you can take some damage, and only the armor pieces fall off, but you are still fine. Tiers are quite durable, but you can loose them and be forced to limp on with less than ideal number of them, but you can again innovate a vehicle that only needs 1 working tier to wiz around the map.

Where the game fails is on the money side. I tested the game as a free-to-play capacity only, so take that to consideration. Going f2p means ungodly amount of grind, as making parts yourself requires dozens of matches due to pitiful amount of scrap you earn per match and one gun doesn't go very far, you need at least 2-4 AND 4 tyres if you go the traditional design! Even if that wasn't enough, lending a workbench to craft from your very hard earned scrap to useable pieces cost premium currency. Luckily you can sell self-made parts to other players and earn your P-currency, but that means more scrap, more matches, more grind!

This is another case of excellent vehicle building and combat game made by a studio, who clearly have a whole lot of experience of making many successful vehicle combat games, stifled by the company greed of today. If only they has made f2p more rewarding by just slightly tuning up the scrap rewards, it wouldn't feel like gathering pennies from the street. If they fix this on a later date, this game has a chance to be one of the great, but the window is closing quick.

    1. Every game can have some p2w elements or selling some decorations to support DEVs. But this game is a heavy p2w game. 2. Making things harder to play to hold things for future behind of payment wall. Many years ago, earning reputation a bit better than now. You could do leveling progress better with factions. But then, they nerfed reputation gaining and started to sell premium payment to get more reputation. You see? they are kind of swindlers.

    3. I'm not saying we shouldn't pay any real money and leave them without supporting. But their intend is totally wrong with morality. I personally purchased few stuff back then when I was believing to support them. If I had a choice to take time back I wouldn't! Some games deserve to be supported but some of them are not!

    4. The other thing is making PvE elements to make impossible to play. They nerfed many benefits for players each time for years. They are making raids harder and harder each day in one purpose is forcing players to pay for p2w elements to get stronger. It's a psychology dealing with players. If players feel powerless, they will spent more money. Is it right or wrong? In my case it shouldn't be like this way to try to deceive players to pay for their p2w services. It's wrong in morality way. Check Path of Exile and Warframe, how they are successful in their own game as a Free to Play.

My decision is, never start to play this game to get addict. It will make your life more stressful than before in any game. I'm not recommend it!

There’s a lot to like about Crossout: the vehicular action shooter combines fast gameplay with a really good editor and a solid crafting system. The graphics are good and the damage model is even better. Sadly, there is no crafting tutorial, the background story is rather weak and most of the time the AI is disappointingly stupid.
