Mar 7, 2018Crossing Souls does so many things right. Sure, the story and the dialogue are a bit dull, but the game is fun to play, and had me wanting to move through to the completion of the tale. The mini-games are also fun and none of them feel as if they’ve been added as filler, but flow through nicely into the main game. The cartoon cut-scenes and the nods to 80’s pop-culture add further nostalgia to the pixelated visuals and digitised audio. For some nostalgic fun, don’t let Crossing Souls slip by.

Mar 29, 2018Fans of genre classics from Spielberg and Zemeckis should play Crossing Souls for that elusive magical feeling of a Hollywood fairytale, for its great 80s style soundtrack, for genuinely funny moments, and even for its thrilling, albeit naive drama… But be warned: this nostalgia trip will be bumpy as hell.

Mar 5, 2018Crossing Souls is a tribute to an entire era and for this reason only some players will adore Fourattic's work. It has plenty of clever references and a wonderful pixel art but the plot fall flat too many times and the gameplay doesn't shine despite a lot of variety. Nostalgic players will love this game; the others not so much.
-
Feb 26, 2018Crossing Souls is a fun nostalgic walk through the 80s, but it lacks its own personality.
-
Feb 23, 2018Crossing Souls is a charming adventure trip into the 80s. But the mix of mechanics is too rough around the edges. It has a decent amount of references to movies and games though that might keep you entertained where the gameplay doesn’t.
-
Feb 17, 2018Crossing Souls blends the platforming, beat’em up and RPG genres and takes you back to the 80s with its colorful pixel-art graphics and classic gameplay. And while there are some gameplay issues that specially affect the combat system, it is still a very good experience that will keep you occupied for a very long time.
-
Feb 23, 2018Crossing Souls looks like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon turned into a drama.
-
Feb 13, 2018If you like the 80s culture, you will find an interactive tribute to it here. As a game, though, it works, although it doesn't do anything outstanding.
-
Feb 13, 2018Flat writing and a confused plot fail to deliver on some promising ideas.
-
Feb 13, 2018Crossing Souls is a beautiful game that feels clumsy with its dozens of references and homages.
-
CD-ActionMay 16, 2018Crossing Souls is brimming with cultural references to the 80s but does little more than that. [04/2018, p.75]
-
Mar 22, 2018Crossing Souls has great style and art direction, and while the plot can be quite cheesy, it’s in a good way. It’s just a shame that poor controls dampen what should be a more enjoyable retro-inspired experience than it is.
-
Feb 20, 2018Crossing Souls is heavy on nostalgia, but somewhat shallow when it comes to gameplay. The result is a lovingly crafted ode to an era that's neither bodacious nor bogus.
-
Feb 16, 2018Crossing Souls makes interesting use of eighties nostaliga, but there is little to be excited about beyond that, and I found it difficult to engage with the story.
-
Feb 13, 2018Crossing Souls has good mechanics, and its facade is a visual treat that is easy to be seduced by, but it fails to achieve a level of holistic enjoyment that raises it past the giant pile of references.
-
Feb 13, 2018Heavy-handed nostalgia, the kind that force-feeds ubiquitous pop-culture references, is overbearing and unnecessary, and Crossing Souls proves that.

Feb 13, 2018An earnest and impactful adventure, written within the margins of an homage to 80s cinema. [Recommended]
-
Feb 13, 2018That it ultimately collapses into a string of unpleasant platforming sequences that the core design simply can’t sustain means I grew to loathe Crossing Souls, once it entirely abandoned its redeeming features for everything it couldn’t get right.
