    Control's combat is repetitive, yet very enjoyable; the story is a mess, yet somehow manages to keep you want to learn more; the graphic engine needs plenty of work, yet the visuals are fantastic. Fascinating masterpiece and disappointing mediocrity, and almost at equal measures, Remedy Entertainment's bizarre piece of software isn't a solid recommendation, yet it remains a one of a kind experience.

    The Ultimate Edition comes packaged with both DLCs – The Foundation and AWE – which add whole new sections to explore and much more story to uncover, as well as include a very cool crossover with Alan Wake. They do mostly stick to the same formula, sadly, with AWE throwing in a couple of new light-based elements I would have liked to have seen more of, especially in combat(!), but once again both of them managed to compel me all the way through; mostly out of sheer curiosity and love of the world and its enigmas. I would really like to see more of this universe in the future and I think Remedy could get super creative with regards to upping the ante around the action. There’s the potential for a total game changer here and, after all, there are plenty more doors to discover in the Motel *wink wink*.

    I have bought the Ultimate Edition from Steam after spending 20+ hours with my Epic store version last year. Unfortunately, they did not put enough time into Quality Assurance and the saves are not compatible at all with the other platform - even with a workaround (changing file names) the first mission of the AWE DLC is not being activated. I am very disappointed mostly because the developers should have known that a lot of Epic users will buy the Ultimate edition and test if that will work at all.… Full Review »

Sure, the gameplay is nothing groundbreaking, but what will keep you glued to your screen is the foreboding atmosphere and even stranger story.

    The combat will have you runnin’ and gunnin’ and using your telekinetic abilities to fight your way out of rooms full of enemies. Does it get repetitive after a while? Sure, but it’s still enjoyable and feels great to launch chunks of debris in a hail of explosions and smoke. But, like I said, the combat isn’t the strong point here; it’s the completely wild story and setting. Things just get weirder and weirder and will have you wanting to see what happens next. With the 2 DLC stories included with the Ultimate Edition, it just sweetens the pot even more.

    I did have some issues though. My biggest one is the map: it’s completely unintuitive. Instead of using something like a 3D map, the developers instead opted to use a flat, top down system. This is an issue because it doesn’t do a good job of showing levels or floors, and exploration being a big part of the game, it’s damn near impossible to track what rooms or areas you missed. The last gripe I have are the mods you find that enhance gun and player abilities. You’ll find tons of them on your play though, but some will feel useful while others not so much.

    Control: Ultimate Edition is an absolutely stellar game. It’s fun, it’s creepy, it’s strange, and I hope we see a sequel sometime soon. If you’re on the fence about this one, just get it and dive into the mysteries of The Oldest House.    … Full Review »
