Chroma Squad

Mix between a management game and a turn-based tactical RPG, Chroma Squad is a tribute to the Sentai genre, with an intriguing narrative plot, hilarious dialogue and lots of fun.

The gameplay is a bit repetitive, but the strong story more than keeps you interested.

Fun turn-based RPG revolves around the shooting of the 90-ties heroic series. The game is full of interesting ideas and small funny things, thanks to that the game looks very fresh, although otherwise it uses traditional scheme of RPG games.

There is a hilarious tactical strategy RPG hiding beneath the pixel cover, which proudly confesses its Power Rangers heritage. It is a pity that it could not keep its pace during the whole time. [Issue#253]

Fun and addictive, Chroma Squad is a must for those who grew up watching the Power Rangers TV show.

Chroma Squad relies on a very interesting concept, delivered through a solid execution and tons of content. If you like management and RPGs, this may be a nice surprise for you.

Chroma Squad is terrifically enjoyable. Fans of tactical RPGs will have oodles of fun, and those who also look fondly upon the youthful days of the Power Rangers will get an extra kick.

Zordon may have wanted "teens with attitude," but Chroma Squad and its unabashed, utterly geeky love-in for all things tokusatsu shows something even harder to find: A game with heart and soul. That heart shines through the rough edges, and in some ways even turns them to its advantage.

With fun presentation, robust gameplay and an accessible learning curve, Chroma Squad is definitely worth a look for strategy RPG fans.

Chroma Squad scratches both my nostalgia and strategy RPG itch in places that have long been left unscratched, and it’s a game I hope Behold Studios has plans to make more of.

Chroma Squad isn’t particularly deep or epic, but makes up for it in heart and charm, nailing the Saturday morning antics of its inspiration and creating a cheery game that anyone can enjoy.

The whole thing is just so darn sweet and well-intentioned that its failings are less like roadblocks and more a nagging sense that this lovely, joyful thing should have been just a bit more consistently delightful than it is.

With some narrative flaws and somewhat repetitive game play Chroma Squad is held up by its polish and shameless confident style.

Chroma Squad is a very enjoyable love-letter to tokusatsu series. Things are by no means perfect; it's easy to see the gameplay falling a bit flat when taken on its own without the oodles of fun that comes in the story, premise, visuals, and audio. However, those who grew up watching Power Rangers and its ilk will greatly appreciate this opportunity to relive the memories and have a small hand in the creation their own version.

Chroma Squad is an overall enjoyable experience that runs on nostalgia, but falls short of becoming everything it could have been. Though the progression system comes to a screeching halt during the latter portions and gameplay repetition can lead to tedium, I still found enjoyment throughout the lengthy story.

Fairly superficial gameplay and recycled ideas hamper Chroma Squad. The game is saved, however, by tongue-in-cheek writing and an excellent premise. Chroma Squad definitely won’t set the pond on fire but is still enjoyable.

There’s enough tongue-in-cheek dialogue to remind you of how campy and fun the Power Rangers are, but it’s often undercut by the game’s insistence on being silly.

What’s endearing about Chroma Squad is that it captures how silly it all was: an absurd, slapstick plot with actual, devastating conclusions if evil ever managed to succeed.
