This is basically This War of Mine in 3D, but with a somewhat less depressing atmosphere. It has a pretty cool story - interesting enough that I keep playing it.

It is NOT open world, rather it takes place in several smaller maps that you will keep revisiting again and again when the story opens up for new quests. It makes the game seem quite segmented and the revisits do get a bit dull after a while.

What makes up for it is the meta game and the story segments. The meta game changes the zone as you play depending on your actions. Kill a bunch of army guys? The will call in reinforcements which will show up as helicopters in the sky when you look out over the zone. Radiation will also slowly take over the maps if you don't keep it down by building radiation equipment in the different maps. So there's quite a lot of tactical gameplay to be had from the meta game. Pretty cool.

Base building is also part of the game. You will built workbenches to upgrade equipment, but you will also build air cleaners, television sets (for higher comfort), beds and a bunch of other stuff. This also works pretty well.

As I said, it's a lot like TWoM. After each mission you will be back at your base, overlooking The Zone. The gameplay loop is this:
    - Wake up
    - Choose mission for the day for you and your team mates
    - Begin missions
    - Complete or fail mission and go back to base
    - Hand out food rations for team mates and check status of their missions (they bring loot)
    - Talk to team mates for quest opportunities and training
    - Build new stuff for base
    - Go to sleep or, if enough evidence has been collected, go through a story segment

Repeat. If this sounds interesting, this game is for you. I will recommend it, but I recon I will grow tired of the loop soon and basically only play to progress the story. Which is fine, but it tells me that the game lacks depth in the game mechanics, enemies and environments.

I assume the game was developed by a small team. And as such, it is quite impressive what they've managed to pull off.

First of all, this game is way more like Escape from Tarkov than S.T.A.L.K.E.R. You go into a small map, do a mission, and teleport back to your base, rinse and repeat.
The enemies are either too dumb or too smart, they will either walk right past you because of the dumb stealth(crouch and you are invisible) or headshot you through bushes with a flick shot as soon as you take a peek at

The gunplay is okay, nothing special, you cant see your body. Most of the fights are just get to cover, lean and shoot at the heads anyway.
I really dont like the music in this game, it does not help with the immersion.
The base building and survival stuff is clearly just padding, put that on easy if you dont want to grind like an idiot.

So if the problem was only in crashes and bugs, it could be fixed, but the game has a lot more and deep problems.

A decent game that has a few shortcomings. Becomes repetitive quickly, and once you gain a few skills becomes a bit easy. Interesting premise that just misses the mark.

    pros:

gameplay loop is fun as hell you wake up go to a map and just start exploring and scavenging everything you can and killing soldiers and mutants along the way after that you go to your base and upgrade it by placing all kinds of workshops and generators to sustain yourself

the weapons feel really good and authentic

the game looks really good the devs did a really good job with the unreal engine

the game is very immersive and you really quickly get sucked into it and the whole vibe of being a stalker

story is really cool although predicable at times

i really liked the base building i had a lot of fun customizing my own base and making it my own

there are random encounters you can have in the game with other stalkers and scavengers where you can exchange stuff and gather information that's a really cool add on and makes the maps you explore more alive

    cons:

the way they did the whole tale tale pick your road is really bad the whole execution was done poorly and most of the time i had a wiki near me just so i can get this over with

if you die you get send to a prison so does your companion if you send him to a risky mission the problem here is that you never unlock a fast way to get to that prison the only way to get their is to basically die so imagine me having end game gear and just trying to die just so i can get my companion as i said... done very poorly

the psyche mechanic is also very dumb and i don't care if your a weak scientist that cant take it if people die and the dumbest thing here is they way you recover your psyche is to drink vodka in my opinion this was the most useless mechanic in the game

not enough maps and at the end after 24 hours of playing i felt like there wasn't enough maps to explore and that they just recycled maps for story parts

the game did scare me a couple of times but that was only because i did not expect cheap jump scares after i realized that it didn't really bother me if they wanted to make the game scarier they could add more scarier mutants like a deathclaw from fallout or something alike now that would be scary as f@#$

in conclusion chernobylite is on its own a diet stalker its fun and cool but in my opinion if they make a sequel just throw the whole choices element out. make more maps and double down on exploring and fun random interactions and cool gameplay and bigger scarier monsters.
i do recommend this game but at a lower price

my final score to chernobylite is a 7.5 out of 10

Chernobylite is a good, rare horror, survival, and science fiction role-playing video game that manages to differentiate itself from its clear influences of other popular post-apocalyptic game series, including the METRO and S.T.A.L.K.E.R series.

The Chernobylite 's plot is intriguing and engaging. Gameplay-wise, the game features an intelligent and solid combination of different game mechanics that, although they don't stand out for their originality, do because of how well they are combined. Chernobylite is not focused on killing or shooting -despite being allowed, but does reward and encourages strategical, non-lethal, and stealth-based playstyles. The gameplay needs your patience and is strongly focused on the best management of daytime, weather, resources, and player inventory.

It is an open-world game in the sense that it allows you to freely explore each of its different maps, even multiple times. The game features a system that will change dynamically the environment, weather, and the game events of the maps, based on the player's actions and decisions.

In terms of bug polishing, there are certainly still some bugs and imperfections that the player will notice and find, but in my case, I haven't found anything that prevents enjoying the game and progressing.

As for the level of optimization and performance issues, although the performance is acceptable and good 90% of the time, a significant recurring micro-stutter/hiccup issue hasn't yet been fixed. The stuttering/hiccups issue is annoying and can break the immersion of the player in the game. I hope the issue is finally mitigated or fixed with the next game patches or updates.

Considering all of the above, I recommend this good indie PC game and, for me, it scores 7.5 out of 10.

This was a relatively decent game. I was pleasantly surprised, but I had a pretty low expectation coming into it. Not scary at all, unless you count some jump-scares once every 5 missions scary.

The VA was hit or miss, the side-characters had much more charm than the main one did, with that british accent. Better than the russian voice tho, where I literally had to look at the pictures,

One dude said normal is way too easy at some point, and I agree. While at the start I was still bothering with stealth, mid-game and towards the end i was just casually murdering everything, poppin a vodka and whistling to the objective.

The ending was only half-predictable, so props for that! But the "bad" ending was really underwhelming.

Base building, again like with the difficulty, was charming only at the beginning. Around the 4th side-kick i'd already built pretty much everything and was stockpiling ammo and gas, was srsly building closets for revolver ammo.... Balance that out a bit my guys.

Overall I enjoyed it, and I'd recommend it, but not as a Stalker or Metro replacement. Considering it's a small-ish studio with no srs gaming cred, it was a good game.

But on the other side, we can observe the rudimentary craft mechanic, absolutely annoying development of the HQ, and... bugs... Tons of bugs and technical problems (hello, unloaded model of the Nuclear plant at the most important moment, while the explosion starts, in the beginning, flashback).
Oh, yeah, and voiceovers are awful...
I'm really sorry to say, that this game disappointed me and a lot of gamers all around the world... I Hope, that developers will support the game in the future and will show us a real thriller in the decorations of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone

Although it took a bit of fighting from the game's part, in the end Chernobylite´s charm won us over and we were thoroughly addicted to the game´s loop with a great story to top it all off.

An interesting return to The Zone and a perfect game to help you survive the wait for Stalker 2. Chernobylite is atmospheric, intriguing, sometimes beautiful, but also needlessly bloated with distracting elements that force you to deal with unimportant or repetitive stuff. It has its issues, but first and foremost it’s an original game with an engaging story and I do recommend it. [10/2021, p.24]
