    Caveblazers is a solid roguelike that always feels fair and gives players a real challenge to complete. The combat is fast-paced and exciting, and the controls are as tight as you could hope for.

    A competent if uninspiring roguelite platformer that provides a fun, challenging time with lots of things to unlock. Satisfying combat and challenging enemy AI makes the moment to moment gameplay worth a look.

    Caveblazers is superb and I’m looking forward to discovering all of its secrets, and to the local multiplayer add-on that’s apparently coming soon. I can see myself playing for years to come.

    The aim of the    Caveblazers is a fast paced rouge-like platformer that provides hours of reliability with its randomly generated levels.

    The aim of the game is to make your way through the caves, collecting items and money to help you defeat the bosses you find every two levels, and get to the bottom to try to find masses of treasure, however you’ll probably spend most of your time trying to complete the challenges and get achievements.

    The controls can feel awkward and stiff if you are not using a controller but if you are then it’ll feel a lot easier when playing the game.

    At the moment there is no actual multiplayer and the only way that other players affect you is on the leader board, however the game is still in development and a multiplayer mode would work extremely well as it would probably work in a similar way to the NPC’s that run around and fight with you, whilst increasing the difficulty to compensate for the human players.

    The ability’s you can start with and the wide verity of items makes every play through different but the game can still feel repetitive after a while, as the abilities are very unbalanced and you can find yourself using the same one over and over again, but the game has constant updates that may solve this problem but it isn’t certain.

    The graphics aren’t amazing but they don’t need to be as everything has its own unique look that separates them from everything else in the game.

    In conclusion at its current state Caveblazers is a fun game with a few downsides, however the game is still in development so future updates are sure to make it even better.    … Full Review »

    Rupeck Games is a one-man indie development company ran by Will Lewis who is the singular developer for Caveblazers. The game has been in the works on Steam since late March and the development is still ongoing.

    Caveblazers starts you off in a small tutorial area where you’ll be greeted with the controls of using a sword and a bow, although these controls aren’t optimal and a controller is highly recommended. It really does feel better.

    Once you’ve finished your entry to the game you’ll be greeted by an old man who will criticise you for your measly gear, how your sword is rusty and your bow is puny. He’ll explain how hundreds of adventurers have also journeyed through the cave that you’re at the entrance of, and how they’ve never returned.

    The point of the game is to make it through the cave and explore the deep riches that will lie beyond. As you adventure you’ll find new areas, weapons and monsters which will all lead your way to success. Currently the game just has the idea of moving on from each level and gaining score based off kills, levels progressed and coins picked up and will then compare the player on the Steam leader board, to make it to #1. Which is unlikely, considering the highest score is literally ‘999970’.

    In a recent statement Lewis states that he’s interested in adding a ‘boss’ level between every two areas progressed to help keep the game interesting and the player on their toes. You can pitch your ideas for a boss on the sub-Reddit.

    The graphics are exactly what you’d expect in a 2D action platformer rogue-like where you’re adventuring through a cave… It’s not bright and painful, it’s dull and boring which would generally be what you’ll see. It’s got some torches which seem to move at the rate of a F1 racing car, but that’s just a small detail.

    The music definitely fits the theme of the game giving off a nice tone, while the sound effects also do this, I feel like they were ripped or copied from The Legend of Kay, which I have flashbacks about every time I hear one of the monsters die. But that’s probably just me.

    The gameplay is full of hours upon hours as it’s all completely randomly generated including the items you pick up and the money you collect sometimes you’ll have short runs and sometimes you’ll have long runs… It all depends on your roll. It’s a similar idea to most other rogue-likes, such as Binding of Isaac.

    Overall, the game is great in its current state and it’s development is still ongoing to fill in the gaps that are full of potential. I hope that Lewis can proceed to make the game how I feel it can succeed, and with the current updates it’s definitely moving in the right direction.

    Hubo una época en la que tuve una fiebre por los roguelike (o roguelite quizá), me había comprado varios juegos de este género, unos meHubo una época en la que tuve una fiebre por los roguelike (o roguelite quizá), me había comprado varios juegos de este género, unos me parecieron juegos llenos de vida y otros simples juegos sin alma, el apetito por este género acabo cuando probé Caveblazers. El juego me dejo bastante satisfecho y es uno de mis rogelikes favoritos junto a The Binding of Isaac.

    SINOPSIS

    Estamos ante un juego de plataformas de acción centrado en el roguelike, tiene lugar en una cueva llena peligros y riquezas que tu como aventurero debes descubrir.

    PROS

    1-Posee cosas que no recuerdo haber visto antes en otro juego de este genero o al menos no implementado de la misma manera. Tenemos un Custom Mode en el que podremos modificar los niveles como queramos ya sean con los tipos de enemigos, dificultad, jefes modificaciones del juego en general como la velocidad en la que va el personaje etc. Las Daily Run de toda la vida, Outfitter para vestir a nuestro personaje como se nos dé la gana, un selector de Perks y una tabla que muestra nuestra estadística. Además, hay un objeto llamado Pumice Crystal, que hará que aparezcan otros aventureros en nuestra partida a ayudarnos (bots).

    2-Hay una variada cantidad de armas, posiciones, enemigos y objetos equipables (como anillos).

    3-Nunca quedamos del todo tirados, tendremos una espada y un arco; en cada run encontraremos mejores armas de las que ya tenemos de base por supuesto.

    4-En cada partida juntaremos experiencia la cual tiene cierta cuota, si completamos dicha cuota nos darán algún objeto, cosmético generalmente y en cada run no solo se junta EXP también “dinero” este sirve, por ejemplo, gastarlo en alguna estatua dentro de las cavernas que nos dará vida.

    5-La manera en la que se realizan las partidas no si es la que mas me gusta pero la acepto; cada run consta de 2 niveles dentro de la cueva, luego nos toca un boss, los bosses son todos distintos hay algunos que son ridículamente fáciles y otros son un sufrimiento que hasta querrás rezar para que no te toque, ya que al igual que al igual que los niveles se generan aleatoriamente, los bosses también lo hacen.

    6-Si tienes el DLC Arena Mode aparecerá la entrada a una nueva habitación dentro habrá un portal para luchar contra los enemigos por oleadas y al final de cada oleada podremos elegir el arma y bendición a nuestro gusto. No solo está el portal para ir a pelear, también hay un objeto llamado “Build” ahí podremos comprar o abrir paquetes cartas e ítems mágicos que nos ayudaran en las oleadas del Arena Mode (no hay micropagos).

    7-Dentro del juego hay un añadido llamado Reliquias, que generalmente sirven para aumentar la duración del juego o condimentarlo, es un añadido interesante para el juego, puedes leer mas de sobre esto en guias que ha hecho la comunidad.

    8-Nuestro personaje se mueve de manera fluida y cuenta con un buen orden de los controles en el mando.

    9-Un detalle tecnico que no quiero dejar de lado es que el juego estando instalado pesa tan solo 60 MB.

    CONTRAS

    1-Cuando el juego se minimiza luego se vuelve a maximizar el juego se comienza a sentir extraño, como si se desactivara el vsync y a veces los FPS caen, la solución, reiniciar el juego. Aunque esto me ha pasado muy pocas veces.

    2-El juego cuenta con una traduccion al español pero no se porque los desarrolladores no han soltado una actualizacion como tal. Debes ir a la seccion de discuciones y encontrar un hilo fijado en el que dan intrucciones de como descargar la traduccion.

    CONCLUSION

    El juego no es original al 100% de hecho mezcla conceptos de otros juegos como era de esperarse, pero es una experiencia recomendada para todos los amantes de los roguelike, gracias a sus veloces combates, una decente cantidad de enemigos y una interesante progresión.    … Full Review »
