Cassette Beasts is the best monster collecting game I've ever played, with sensational combat and a wonderful world to explore.

They say that if you come for the king, you best not miss. Which is why I’m so amazed to say that Cassette Beasts not only stood tall in its own right, but managed to knock Pokémon down a notch or two in the process. While it’s true it doesn’t do everything right, and I’m still a little annoyed by how open world it is and how vague the type interactions can be, there’s so much to enjoy here. Throw in a lengthy playthrough and postgame content, and you have a game that’s well worth your money. If you’re at all a fan of the monster collector genre, you need to play this. It’s just that simple.

Bytten Studio puts all of its creativity on display in Cassette Beasts. Not only does its sizeable roster of Monsters include some really fun and unique designs, but the thoughtful approach to combat and clever music element really set it apart from most Pokemon-likes. Although the characters weren’t as intriguing as I’d like in an RPG, just about everything else was enough to make up for it. Cassette Beasts is sure to be one of this year’s indie darlings.

Overall, Cassette Beasts is charming, fun, and creative. Despite being a monster-collecting RPG inspired by Pokémon, it feels unique thanks to its aesthetic, design, and, most importantly, its heart. The development team has a clear passion, and the game drips with personality on every front. Cassette Beasts is a game I’d recommend to any Pokémon fan looking for a new take on monster-collecting games, as well as a game I’d suggest for anyone in the mood for a fun and breezy little RPG. It’s short, it’s sweet, and most importantly: it’s fun.

Combat isn't the only fun thing the game has to offer. If you're in the mood for collecting and battling strange creatures, give the game a chance, it will serve you pleasant entertainment with beautiful visuals. [Issue#327]

The best Pokémon clone by a significant margin and arguably a more enjoyable experience than the more recent 3D games, with some clever new ideas and fantastic visuals.

I had a great time with Cassette Beasts, but it was undeniably frustrating in places. It iterates on the Pokemon formula in nearly every possible way, and exploring the world via companion quests rather than just doing a big circle on your Gym challenge creates a wonderful sense of adventure. Cassette Beasts tries a lot of new things and most of them are successful. The story is compelling, the characters are engaging, and the battle system is one of the best I’ve ever used. It doesn’t pull everything off, but I’d much rather play a game that takes risks, rather than one that rehashes the same old formula time and time again.

I was really disappointed about the Quality and polish of Pokemon games lately, so I'm amazed, that this game managed to be THAT good!

Cassette beasts reignited my wish to catch them all! The open world design is really good, you can sequence break with the Physics a bit which makes the world interactive and fun to explore. Its great to see the Monsters instead of having random Encounters. The plot is really creative and fun. The "boss Monsters" are actually scary, because of the different art styles which make them look Alien in this context. The Fusion Mechanic and Stickers make trying out different combinations a very creative process that is barely limited. You want to win any Encounter instantly? Put on a few Turn 0 preemptive attack Stickers and you are good to go! I feel like I could go on forever. I barely found any negatives about the game, but here are a few constructive ideas: I feel like companions are not that great in terms of interesting ingame mechanics, giving them stat buffs for certain cassettes feels a bit boring. To me it's strange that you need to do a forever long quest to get 1-

Loving this, very refreshing take on formula. Lots of ways to great combos and customise both character and monsters. Gorgeous art style.

Best monster catching game in recent memory. Has a tad voice acting, music has lyrics (than can be toggled off if you don't like it). RunsBest monster catching game in recent memory. Has a tad voice acting, music has lyrics (than can be toggled off if you don't like it). Runs better than scarlet and violet. 2.5D world that's just as open as modern pokemon games but better. 120 base monsters that have 12 different elemental versions and all can be fused for just under 3 million different combinations. Its an amazing and very refreshing experience. It's one of my personal nominations for goty. I encourage anyone on the fence to try the demo. I'd really like to see it do well so we could maybe more games in the future. Whatever you do don't sleep on this. All the beasts are unique and memorable. Try it. It's a blast Expand

I have been waiting for a game like this outside of nintendo land and this is perfect.

It can only be described as being like pokemon. Catching monsters and battling in a cute child friendly rpg that adults can just as easily enjoy. It’s like pokemon but it’s no clone. It has enough of its own ideas that really makes it stand out. I can’t wait for this to also come to Xbox and I’m hoping cross save will join it. My only criticism is I’m not the biggest fan of pixel graphics and it would be nice to see some lighting and detail like octopath traveler style.
