Modern Warfare 3 is the best in the series. If you played MW2 you will love MW3. The first thing you notice when you play is that there's a lot more ways to play the game. Once you hit level 20 you can pick the Specialist Strike Package. This has no killstreaks. Instead the more kills you get,the more perks you get. I recommend this for only the most expert of players. This package has no deathstreaks so making a comeback will be especially difficult. There are 2 new modes in the game that are really cool. Kill Confirmed is basically Team Deathmatch but you have to pick up these dogtags to confirm the kills. You can also pick up your own dog tag and deny the other teams kills. Team Defender is a fun twist on Capture the Flag. In Team defender the objective is to play keep away with the flag. The longer you have it the more points you get. If you play with your friends and have a strategy you will have a good chance of dominating. Expand

Generic cash cow for Activision coming out yearly now. I remember when Call of Duty took more than 9 months for a "new" game. Really the game mechanics haven't changed since CoD4. Every year it is like a DLC pack that becomes the next game except this DLC costs $50 every time.

This game is nothing more than a small upgrade of the previous version. Lots have been reskinned and there is a decent single player story and a few new game modes for multiplayer.
That would be fine if this was a 20$ish expansion, but you pay 59.99$ for this.

Great game despite the harsh criticisms. The overwhelming amount of negative user reviews just proves how intimidated battlefield fans are by MW3 as the dominate game in the military shooter genre. If you're on the fence about choosing between MW3 and Battlefield 3, it's a close call but MW3 is the better game.

It''s not that you can't have fun with this game, you can. The problem is that I already had fun with it for the last 5 years. The new class layout system and explosive damage reductions are welcome changes, but it's too little too late.

Much of what was included in this title should have been fixed in MW2 in the first place, but IW saw fit to ignore supporting their fans and let MW2 turn into a cesspool. MW3 balances a lot of things, though power weapons remain where being competitive relies on running the same set up as everyone else, leaving little variety in multiplayer game play unless you want to die a lot.

The cheating community appears to be as strong as ever. Having run in to an entire party of blatant cheaters in my first 2 lobbies. Along with that, there also appears to be a host hack already, allowing the user to force himself as host despite clearly not being the best pick. This is why the PC doesn't get any access to Elite, but it's not something that going to change anyway. If anything, they should give the PC players access to elite so it's easier to find and eliminate these players from the community.

That's not to say MW3 doesn't have any saving graces. The maps are much more well designed than previous titles. The unlock system is fine. The new classes where I can be more help without being a try hard are all welcome changes and are for the better. Unfortunately, it's not enough.

There's no innovation. Everything here has been seen before, often done much better. The sound in the game is absolute garbage compared to recent battlefield games. The engine is really showing its age graphically. If this was Modern Warfare 1, I would have said they struck the nail on the head. Unfortunately for IW and Activision, this title has simply confirmed that I will not be paying for the next CoD title set to be released November next year.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MW3 isn't a very intresting game. It has the same gameplay as with all the other MW game, with that I am fine, a title should stay true to the gameplay it has. This is the only reason I'll be willing to give the game 1 point. I also like the new gamemode but it isn't close to enough. The game is not well balanced, it has huge lag issus, the sound is anything but pleasing compared to other FPS titles, the graphics more or less the same as with BO but you can't change your FOV. This makes the game feel slower than it is, not a good thing for a run'n gun game. It also means that people will get pain in their eyes after playing for a time period longer than 8 minutes (look at TotalHalibut´s video :WFT is modern warfair 3? to get a more in deapth descussion about the matter). MW3 also has left out many of the good things that BO intruduced. When playing MW3 you ask yourself why you don't just play MW2 or a mod of CoD4. The game doesn't bring anything new and fresh to the series and it just feels old and mossy. As a gamer it is impossible to accept that the series is getting less and less content for every new game, but sadly that is what has happend to the CoD series after CoD4 and MW2. The money I put on MW3 was money poorely spent. The next CoD game better have a new up to date engeien, better graphics, a new tutch on the gameplay (without loosing the run'n gun feel). In other words, the next time another CoD is anounced I don't want an over priced mod. MAKE COD GOOD AGAIN! Expand

The gun swaying while running is laughable, you actually move a lot slower then compared to MW2 - removing the fluidity of this game while doing so. The music score for the game is garbage compared to MW and MW2, and the campaign is horribly written, stale, and predictable. The only positive thing I have seen is a reduction of grenade launching game play. The graphics are basically the same but personally that doesn't bother me too much. This game was not worth it at all, and Activision / IW made a killing off of this game. You can tell that when they sat down to discuss how they were going to make MW3, they went with the business model of: try to keep everything the same to cut production costs. All in all, I'd recommend staying away from this game. Ignore what the editors for news articles say. This is NOT worth it. Expand

I played about 4 hours of MP last night after work and so far I am enjoying it, most of the maps are well done, weapons feel very tight. The explosions, animations, sounds, all of them worse than Black Ops. The jump animation for instance, is shorter, slower, and it feels like a man-on-the-moon jump.
There's no need to bother aiming, just spray and hit. Any n00b can get kills, since the maps are really small, designed for one-vs-one close combat. Snipers won't get fun here, there are no long corridors, and the field of visions feels plain (no deep). Of course there are tons of guys running with sniper rifles and sometimes quickscoping. This is not realistic.
The movement looks more robot-like, the turns are really unnatural. They have removed the dive movement.
If you enjoy running in small maps, use an entire reload to kill an enemy, then die becouse a n00b was in the nearest corner and you have lag (since the host is determined automatically), this is your game. Otherwise, rent it a weekend to see the fireworks in the campaign mode, but don't buy it because it is not worth that money.

Game is utter garbage. Chokepoints, linear progression and predictable AI make the single player doable in the deepest of sleep, and the multiplayer isn't much better. Plays like the ones that came before it, and didn't make any notable improvements. In fact, it got worse. I miss the days of BF2.

Not much to add to what the majority of reviewers have been saying, but failing to rename anything in their excecutable ('MW2' errors) and recycling objects over and over just spells rehash. MW3 is basically a map pack for MW2. The graphics are worse than MW2, if not even worse than MW1, there are a few new maps and that's it. Other than that it's a carbon copy of MW1. You would think after lying to the public saying "We spent 1 full year" on this game that it would be better than this. The entire Modern Warfare game line has been derailed since MW2, but I wasn't sure if theyMW3 is basically a map pack for MW2. You would think after lying to the public saying "We spent 1 full year" on this game that it would be better than this. The entire Modern Warfare game line has been derailed since MW2, but I wasn't sure if they could screw this series every further.

I haven't played a CoD game since MW2, and I don't plan on playing another one ever again. It's clear that the publishers/dev's don't care about the public, they don't listen to the public and they just want their money. At least give the game new features... From what I can see the only redeemable quality of MW3 is how you can edit your private game mods, rules etc... yet you cant gain XP on it, so it defeats the purpose.

    The upsides to this game are minimal at best. I had a look a few things;

    - Graphics
    - Storyline
    - Multiplayer
    - Stackable killstreaks
    - Community
    - Elite

    All of which were disgusting.

Let's start with the graphics; The graphics are terrible. They obviously don't want to use a different graphic engine, so they just keep recycling the same crap over and over again. With the amount of money the Call of Duty franchise make they could either get people to code them one, or make one themselves. It shows that the company has no desire to change the game in any shape or form, and are only concerned with one thing; the green.

Onto the singleplayer storyline; The storyline was average at best. It had some ok set-peices, but the storyline is just beefed up by explosions every two seconds. The characters are really average, and you would think after the decline in MW2, they would make some better characters... obviously not.

Multiplayer; Absolutely disgusting. You would think after the amount of complaining people did about not having dedicated servers in MW2, they would add a simple dedicated server browser... nope... of course not, why would they want to make our gaming experience any good at all? Everything about the online is crap... especially for PC. Xbox/PS3 gamers are used to matchmaking lobbies but PC gamers are not. No point buying this for PC.

Stackable killstreaks; Terrible idea all together. Should not have been implemented. Way to easy to get good stuff. It's a bad system for new players who aren't that great at this game.

Community; Absolutely deplorable community. 90% of the community are more concerned about their KD rather than teamwork and unity. They care more about how many kills they get and whether or not they top the leaderboard. You try to get help, you get smashed by all these 13 year old children raging on mic. Not to mention the fact that everybody is hostile 24/7 on CoD...

Elite; A copy of Battelog. hey you would think that they would make Elite work for PC's... obviously not straight away, that would be too good wouldn't it? People go on about how they say "Battlelog and Battlefield are the same as MW3" when they're completely different all together.

All up, I give this game a 0/10. There are no redeemable qualities about this game, every time I try to find one, it gets cancelled out by another con. I really wish the publishers/dev's would read these reviews, because nearly all of them are saying the same thing... saying that the game needs work, and needs to STOP being a carbon copy.

I am a BF3 player, but before you go jumping on the "YOU'RE A BF3 FANBOY AHHAHA **** I went into this game assuming it would be bad, yes, but I gave it a chance. I sat and played it. Played it on multiplayer on PC, Xbox and gave it a chance. I didn't like it so I'm posting a review.

Also, attention to IGN. I don't understand why the **** you guys are still in business... Oh that's right, you get paid off by every company to talk up their game in pre-release, then as soon as it comes out you talk **** about it... as soon as something get's announced, you then proceed to talk it up again. You pathetic money hungry ****s. I come to Metacritic for my reviews, because they're unbiased people.

Multiplayer brings the same old experience, adding nothing new to the table, with the lackluster maps, and a couple of new perks, which aren't at all that exciting. As for the look of the game, nothing has changed since, nor does it stand out, which again dampens the experience (especially when comparing to the likes of other newly released games such as Battlefield 3 and Uncharted 3). The only thing remotely enjoyable was the 'reinvented' Spec Op's mode, which is practically only enjoyable whilst playing with a friend. Experiencing the same mode through random joins i found myself to be doing most of the work, with many neglecting the focus of 'teamwork'. Yet as much as this was enjoyable, the mode becomes stale and repetitive (much like the franchise) very quickly. In hindsight, this game rates very poorly compared to other shooters available on the market today (both new and old). The game is stale and bland and short, whilst at the same time highlights the need for change, if the series wishes to survive and compete within future markets. Expand

Its obvious that a decision was made to keep with whatever their current tech was and effectively release an expansion pack that follows on the story from the single player MW2. Nothing wrong with doing that but charging the same price for a full game when you haven't added anything new is doing a disservice to the player. The action sets pieces are visually quite nice and follow the Hollywood action movie style just as effectively as the previous titles do in the series. However restricting the player to a liner path through the game is getting a bit of an old game mechanic now so something different would have been nice (Just look at what EIDOS did with Deus Ex). You could probably forgive them for the liner game-play if there were at least some cool new thing you could do in each refresh of the title (like Ubisoft giving you more abilities in Assassins Creed) but the only innovation seems to be a bit of weightless gunfigthing (which is quite cool though not very long) and a few new guns. The auto-save feature however still manages to occasionally kick in at the worst moments making replaying a section annoying when the first thing you need to do is try and survive long enough to get into cover. The biggest problem however is the game stopping bug about a third of the way through the PC campaign. How that one slipped by EA's QA I will never know. Sure it will probably be quickly patched and there is a work around to get you past it if you do some googling put the fact that such an obvious bug that can be found by just playing the game in the normal fashion made it through to the final release suggests that hitting deadlines was more important than releasing a working game.

If this game we released as a maxi DLC or a boxed expansion for around £25 then its would probably rate at 8 but as it stands a 2 it is.

They reuse all the same graphics, sound , models even the plot is a recycled piece of trash.

Absolutely, hands down one of the worst games I've ever played. Who would of thought something with so much action can be so incredible boring. I couldn't bring myself to play more because it was such uninspired, rehashed garbage. Nothing good to say about this trash.

I returned my Xbox360 copy to see how much better it would play on PC, and too be honest, its not even any better, in fact

IT PLAYS WORSE, I've also returned this copy, if a game isnt fun in the first hour, then it's not worth continuing.

I bought this game thinking it was about answering the call of nature and dropping a deuce in the toilet. Instead it seems to be about a guy that shoots others with no remorse.Very misleading title!!!

Cash Cow game much? Tried so much to get into this game but it is terrible, i love reading all of the comments by the children that play it "oh you only be hatin' because of BF3 blah blah blah". Lucky for me my friend bought this game before i did so i never lost any money really.
As for the IGN review, please, what a pure kiss ass review, single player campaign is visually stunning? It's just stripped levels from the old games slapped in with horrible textures and nasty auto aim.
Well after my rant, i'll give this game a 0 out of 10, it is not worth anyone's money, not even the fake chocolate kind.

I refuse to pay Activision any money after announcing the removal of dedicated servers from MW2. I also find it insulting that they tell us it was by community request to remove them - it was clear from this point that MW1, a great game, was being rinsed for profit. MW3 is just further proof of this - buying it is only showing that you want Activision to do it more.

Rehashed singleplayer. Rehashed multiplayer. Priced mappacks, God forbid they release a SDK so users would actually improve this game more than the devs ever could. 1/10, feeling generous today.

Mw3 strength is it gave everyone exactly what they were looking for...

Mw3's biggest weakness..is the fact it gave everyone exactly the same game as last time. Same weapons, same voice overs, same almost everything. The only thing new in MW3 was the SP campaign. The mw3 Multi-player game looks like Mw2 with a few new maps and things strewn about. This MP game could have sold as a map

Short and boring shooting gallery of a campaign. No lessons learned from competitors where no wall or building is safe. Only minor tweaks from previous game in the series, nothing new (maybe a gun or two). Recycled and way overpriced as a full game, would have been better if it had been a $10 dlc instead.

Yet another linear on-rails campaign that feels like it's mostly cutscenes designed to look good on a "gameplay" trailer, and yet another multiplayer that takes its map designs from Pac-Man and adds nothing really new in terms of gameplay innovation, but instead removes some of the customization it had previously. All with outdated graphics, fake as hell plastic sounds and a community made up mostly of people not old enough to play the game. £40 please. I think I could have given it more points if Activision gave me a financial incentive similar to the critics'. But they didnt, so....honesty it is. Expand

Let's start with the facts. P2P DOES NOT, CAN NOT, and WILL NOT EVER, work for a pc Based FPS Multiplayer game. Sure it's fine for co-op, or at least a SMALL number of players in a versus mode, but that still introduces host advantage. As a competitive Multiplayer game, there is no chance it will ever work. Please remove all instances of this crap from any future games from your stable IW. I cannot see in my right mind how IW thinks it's sufficient to play a FPS game with 100+ ping every single round, its absolutely absurd. In my first hour of playing alone I encountered 2 Aimbotters, which could have been dealt with by Admins, but seeing that There are none in P2P, they spoilt the game for us all until we EVENTUALLY found a new playlist. Atleast the addition of dedicated servers rectifies this, but IW jumps in and even limits us on these, being unranked and all.
Also Loving the fact that that your only sound options are Volume and speaker setup, no way to turn down music or menu sounds. The visuals are not on par with anything from this year, as it actually looks worse than MW2 and Black Ops due to the fact that levels are bigger and more intricate, so the textures have to be downscaled (or so it seems) for the console players to achieve sustainable frame rates. Fantastic job guys, really.

Whilst I did enjoy the single-player and special operations mode, I realize there is very little in the way of any major game engine changes - a few sparkles here and there.
I didn't expect much, and really was only keen on seeing how it all ended in the storyline... Yes, the gameplay could have been a bit longer though!

Overall, there were some good story telling ideas and strong character backgrounds. But in my opinion Activision should now look toward building a new franchise for 2012.
