Yes, it's the same moderate quality textures, same unrealistic and pathetic gun sounds, same single player thats as linear as the line y=x., and that's a real shame. Activision's desire for a yearly release gives the developers no time for any real innovation or enough time for a new engine, this is what lets down this game. It's no longer fun to pay for a brand new game, along with 3 compulsory map packs or the elite subscription if you wish to avoid being 'kicked' from MP games, its becoming greedy. The included maps are tacky, small and repedative from my experience on them, and alas, it is clear that IW haven't listened to fans as the dreaded 'Noob Tube' returns as an early unlock which is perhaps my least favourite thing about call of duty. Graphics (7.5/10): Perhaps not as good as MW2, but a clear step up from Black Ops, the engine however doesn't allow for the dynamic lighting that some rivals to this franchise and the textures are clearly copy and pasted from earlier games. As usual, the guns look great themselves, the few high quality textures are devoted to firearms which look much better than anything else, albeit, not quite as good as BF3. One thing I really like is the 60fps, it leaves the game play smooth at all times, and never seems to dip.

Sound (1/10): Pathetic is the only way to describe them, unrealistic and completely wrong gun sounds return. There are also no dynamic sounds, so a sniper rifle on the other side of a map, 3 blocks away, sounds the same as if it were 5 metres away. Very, very dissappointing.

Multiplayer (4/10): A quote from MW2: "Same stuff, different day", which is a perfect description of the multiplayer aspect of MW3....its nearly IDENTICAL! Some different guns, some not, same sounds, slightly redesigned maps, same game modes practically. There is a huge hype behind "Kill Confirmed" mode, which would be great for a communicating team, however, I'm told that this has been taken from Crysis 2 (not 100% sure on that) plus a slightly different version of CTF. These add little to the game. The same stupid killsteaks, including the annoying Juggernaught that appeared in spec ops last time. Again, in a few months time, be prepared to shell out the MS point equivilent of US$15/$AU23 for the first of 3 map packs that if avoided will see you kicked from every server (or $50 for the elite service). The maps too, all seem identical bar the NYC map, which, combined with the tiny size ( 6 players per team max usually and the playing area is tiny) leaves one bored VERY quickly. Ah yes, to allow for new and unskilled players, noob tube returns from its nerfing in Black Ops to again leave me wanting to tear my hair out in frustration. "Quickscoping", another frustrating 'innovation' has returned to haunt me, an exploit of the over-helpful aim assist. The P2P servers are a clear step down from dedicated ones, they limit the number of players and lag like hell in Australia, I hate it, it's not as fun as past games.

Offline (3/10): Meh, another over the top, unoriginal story. Unbelievably short, finished on easy in 4 and half hours, contrary to most "professional" critics who say it takes 8. However, at least IW tried to do something new with a rip off of zombies along with some more co-op spec ops, however, no co-op will ever compare to Treyarch's Zombies. As a whole, the offline component appears half baked and tired.

Overall, I was going to give this game 6 or 7 out of 10, however seeing as its part of a series, it is a rediculous copy of the last one, hence its low rating. The "professional" critics who raved so highly need to get a grip and loose their bias, as a once CoD fanboy myself, I am very disappointed and will be trying out BF3 in the near future as I return this 'new' game. A pathetic money grab, if you enjoy CoD, play MW2 or MW1, they're by far better than this.

I see no reason to buy this game if you own even Modern Warfare 1 on the PC. This game doesn't even have lean. This is little more than MW2 with some wax applied to it and a 60 dollar price tag attached. Welcome to the era of 60 dollar mods.

Normally you'd go for the "When its not broken don't fix it" motto but this does not work here. An aging game with aging game play mixed with a far too young player base to play this game legally makes it a dull and frustrating experience. There is no wow factor and for such a high price tag this truly feels like a con.

The gun swaying while running is laughable, you actually move a lot slower then compared to MW2 - removing the fluidity of this game while doing so. The music score for the game is garbage compared to MW and MW2, and the campaign is horribly written, stale, and predictable. The only positive thing I have seen is a reduction of grenade launching game play. The graphics are basically the same but personally that doesn't bother me too much. This game was not worth it at all, and Activision / IW made a killing off of this game. You can tell that when they sat down to discuss how they were going to make MW3, they went with the business model of: try to keep everything the same to cut production costs. All in all, I'd recommend staying away from this game. Ignore what the editors for news articles say. This is NOT worth it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MW3 isn't a very intresting game. It has the same gameplay as with all the other MW game, with that I am fine, a title should stay true to the gameplay it has. This is the only reason I'll be willing to give the game 1 point. I also like the new gamemode but it isn't close to enough. The game is not well balanced, it has huge lag issus, the sound is anything but pleasing compared to other FPS titles, the graphics more or less the same as with BO but you can't change your FOV. This makes the game feel slower than it is, not a good thing for a run'n gun game. It also means that people will get pain in their eyes after playing for a time period longer than 8 minutes (look at TotalHalibut´s video :WFT is modern warfair 3? to get a more in deapth descussion about the matter). MW3 also has left out many of the good things that BO intruduced. When playing MW3 you ask yourself why you don't just play MW2 or a mod of CoD4. The game doesn't bring anything new and fresh to the series and it just feels old and mossy. As a gamer it is impossible to accept that the series is getting less and less content for every new game, but sadly that is what has happend to the CoD series after CoD4 and MW2. The money I put on MW3 was money poorely spent. The next CoD game better have a new up to date engeien, better graphics, a new tutch on the gameplay (without loosing the run'n gun feel). In other words, the next time another CoD is anounced I don't want an over priced mod. MAKE COD GOOD AGAIN! Expand

I can easily buy an Indy game for 10 Dollars that can give me more innovation and gameplay than any of the Call of Duty games combined. The fact that this game even has a 60 dollar price tag is baffling, considering it is pretty much exactly like the past 2 games in the Modern Warfare series. I give credit that Modern Warfare 2 has a better amount of content than the first one but this game is the exact same if not worse than the title that came before it. It's funny to me how the press and Infinity ward think this is somewhat of an "attack" on the series but I think this is more of an outcry that we want to see better. At least you don't have the over powered perks and stuff to worry about in BF3. If you call me a BF fanboy I can tell you this I own EVERY CoD on PC and this is by FAR the worst game to date. The only fun I had was playing on a gun game dedicated server because I didn't have to worry about lag and a bad host with a 56k modem. Simply because IWNET wasn't fixed to work with the better hosts. After getting hacked to death we have the problem of guns with bigger calibers hitting twice as many times as a guy that killed me. I die to 2 shots from an smg with 45 caliber or 9 mm when I am using bigger guns like 7.62 assault rifles and lmgs hitting people 5-10 times in the chest. Or I get shot in the killcam in the knees and it counts as a head shot? No way. Pretty much the hit detection is **** at best. I will stick with a game series thats actually trying to push the gaming industry instead of catering to the least common denominator aka consoles.

Not to mention the head of Sledgehammer games is begging for better user scores when they aren't warranted. If you want better scores make a better game. Then we wouldn't have this problem.

Let alone your graphics are still **** when you max out this game, even in my 1920 x 1200 res. you missed a ton of things black ops had but what's worse is your ability to copy everything! You even left out a ton of title and emblems in the barracks from MW2! The guns sound like airsoft AEGs from Walmart, the hit detection make my eyes roll back and make me foam in the mouth. BUT the most up-F*cked thing of this MW release are the MAPS. Tight corner, camp friendly, spawn kill inducing maps. I don't have one map that I really like here. Regardless of what game mode your playing, YOU'RE PLAYING FFA... Sniping? you're F*cked... no real sniping maps. The story is fun but linear and makes me want to fly past every mission without enjoying it. Then again, the multiplayer is what hooks people. But now it seems the only people who are stupid enough to defend this game are prepubescent kids. Now the MW series and possibly CoD series is dead. NOT worth the money. NOT trolling the fanbase. No Bullsh*t. I've been tricked and hype-f*cked by IW. It's worse for us Steam users who can't get refunds for this garbage, so rejoice console players.

I'll be honest. Not a fan - feels more like MW2.5 - 60$ for 16 new maps. CoDElite - I'll never buy - seems more and more like a money grab. I honestly knew the game wasn't going to be new and exciting but I still feel duped for some reason. Few new guns and a bouncing betty. MW2.5 - I'm wishing I would have gotten BF3 - I still may go grab that.

This is the best expansion pack I've ever purchased. I was so glad when Activision decided to break the mold and start releasing expansion packs just like everybody used to do back in the day. Sure it's a little expensive (60 dollars), but just wait a year and that'll go down in price about 10 dollars when the next expansion pack comes out.

And yet, it still break sales records because of the popularity and hype that drives this game off store shelves. Well let me tell you this, there are more alternative games deserving of the hard earned money you make. People shouldn't feel obligated to buy this game because like its the only option out there especially for fps games. There are better games like BF3 and Gears of War 3. I'm not a fan of the Battlefield series but they are slowly winning my admiration based on how they treat their fans. They actually LISTEN and care for the fans. Just look at Battlefield's twitter account, they try to respond to each and every follower and actually do their best to resolve each issue that comes up. Unlike Call of Duty MW3, Battlefield 3 was in years of development and they weren't just an expansion pack that is released year after year and renamed into a new game. Props to BF3 for their quality of work and care they put into their game. They are more deserving of your money and should really be the number 1 game in the fps gaming genre. I expect the Call of Duty series to be gone in the next couple of years if they continue the path they are in unless they completely remake a whole new game with a better game engine but until then, BF3's frostbite engine will continue to be "above and beyond" the Call of Duty. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU PLAY FROM AUSTRALIA.

I was really looking forward to this game considering the great game that CoD:BO was. Unfortunately Modern Warfare 3 just has not lived up to the hype. The single player campaign was pretty good but like most I bought it for multiplayer and multiplayer in MW3 is simply atrocious. Unlike CoD:BO they have decided that they will not allow ranked play on dedicated servers. For those unfamiliar with the game this means that you are restricted to playing one of five classes (with skills, perks and weapons preselected for you). You cannot level any custom classes, work towards prestige, or do any of the fun things assoicated with ranked play. I know you're thinking, so just play on ranked servers... right?

Introduce the BANE of the multiplayer experience - the Match Making Service. One word. LAG. Again. LAG!... LAAAAAAAAG! In two nights of game play probably 80-90% of games have been dominated by players complaining about the latency. What's the problem? With no dedicated servers one player is selected to host the game and with it come a host of problems indeed. The selection process begins by finding low latency groups for you to play with, if it fails to find one it tries a higher latency group, and so on, and so on until you're matched. For people in Australia (and I gather other regions without the US playerbase) this means you're automatically grouped with international servers) - there is no option to wait to be grouped with local players. Even if you are grouped with local players often the player selected simply doesn't have the capability required to be a stable host. This results in games where people simply teleport around, where clients are out of sync (stand behind a person, shoot, only to watch them being behind you knifing you in the replay) and with constant host migrations (where the game gives up on the host and tries to pick a different host - which often fails as well).

The other problem may just have to do with the player pool. If you don't like playing ranked TDM or TDM-Tags, good luck to you. There are just no local games for the other game types. In three days I have not managed to find a single local game of CTF. It's horrible.

So why did they avoid dedicated servers? To prevent cheating the developers say. Here we are *two days* later and the Modern Warfare 2 Aimbot/wall cheats have been modified to work with Modern Warfare 3 only now there is no way to track or ban the cheating players.

Giving the game a 2/10 for the single player campaign only. I cannot stress enough, if you are in Australia save your $99 and buy a different game.

That said, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a bad game in almost every aspect. I don't much care for the dated graphics: they still look rather acceptable and make for a smooth experience on my also dated rig. Now to tthe actual game modes. The campaign manages to be shorter than MW2's (which is to say, it's REALLY short). If only it had a nice story like its predecessors, though, it would be a good campaign. It doesn't, and you get bored despite the epic scale the war raging around you has reached. It's all been done before, some missions are almost carbon copies of MW and MW2 ones. It's cliche-ridden, full of predictable "scenes" where your character barely survives (you get knocked down with a scripted explosion, some NPC helps you up, the camera tilts as if to show you're dizzy, then you're fully recovered and back on the frontlines). There are no real plot twists or anything memorable in this campaign whatsoever. I played on "veteran" difficulty and felt the AI was pretty good though. But it is in no way an actual challenge. Now for the multiplayer mode... this deserves a little background. When I bought MW2 upon launch, I hadn't read any previews about it. I just bought it because I was still hyped from COD4, which had an amazing campaign and awesome multiplayer. So I had no clue MW2 wouldn't be getting dedicated servers. I was in for a MAJOR disappointment. I was like "MATCHMAKING??? REALLY???" But the worst thing was, maps were terrible, felt like carousels with annoying players (a maximum 18 of them, to be precise) running around with no tactics or teamwork at all. TERRIBLE stuff. I only managed to endure a couple hours of it, and vowed never to buy a MW game again. But then it was announced MW3 would be getting dedicated servers again. Being fond of the campaign storyline as I was, and hoping the multiplayer would go back to what it was in 2007, I immediately broke my word and pre-purchased it. Then, just a few days before launch day, I read an article at GameSpy saying dedicated servers wouldn't be ranked (meaning you can't level up or unlock guns, items, etc on them) and once again, the player limit would be 18, which is utter garbage. If COD4 had 32 players (some DEDICATED servers allowed even more somehow), why can't we have those 4 years later? Maps also look and feel terrible. MW3's multiplayer is a BORING and frustrating experience. I cannot even understand how this game appeals so much to the masses. It's not entertaining at all. Also, with no leaning AGAIN, gameplay is horrible. Bottom line (multiplayer-wise) is, MW3 = MW2 with even worse maps. The only thing remotely good about this game is the Spec Ops mode, which doesn't even come close to making MW3 worth the 60 bucks I spent on it. This game should cost 10 USD, tops. No joke. I'll tell you what IS a joke though. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Expand

Only minor tweaks from previous game in the series, nothing new (maybe a gun or two). Recycled and way overpriced as a full game, would have been better if it had been a $10 dlc instead.

As expected this is just a copy from the last game with no real improvements to the Multiplayer. Singleplayer has some new stuff but if that were the game alone no one would buy it anyway. Seriously, let's get behind the FPS craze please.

As an avid follower of this shooter I collected all but 'Black-Ops' on the PC.

I will conclude my 'Call of Duty' collection with this title, and really hope that this is the last we see of the series, as it appears a lot of loose ends were tied up from the previous 'Modern Warfare' games. Whilst I did enjoy the single-player and special operations mode, I realize there is very little in the way of any major game engine changes - a few sparkles here and there.
I didn't expect much, and really was only keen on seeing how it all ended in the storyline... Yes, the gameplay could have been a bit longer though!

Overall, there were some good story telling ideas and strong character backgrounds. But in my opinion Activision should now look toward building a new franchise for 2012.

5 hour campaigns, shortest in modern gaming history and of all the CODs. The sounds, animations, even voice actors for most of the sounds for kill streaks are a straight copy paste from MW2 and COD4.

Another year another CoD. Except this time the story isn't as good (which was one of MW2's best points) and the multiplayer feels the meh. I really loved making my emblems in Black Ops, and its disappointing to this feature not there.

MW3 is basically a map pack for MW2. The graphics are worse than MW2, if not even worse than MW1, there are a few new maps and that's it. Other than that it's a carbon copy of MW1. You would think after lying to the public saying "We spent 1 full year" on this game that it would be better than this. The entire Modern Warfare game line has been derailed since MW2, but I wasn't sure if theyMW3 is basically a map pack for MW2. You would think after lying to the public saying "We spent 1 full year" on this game that it would be better than this. The entire Modern Warfare game line has been derailed since MW2, but I wasn't sure if they could screw this series every further.

I haven't played a CoD game since MW2, and I don't plan on playing another one ever again. It's clear that the publishers/dev's don't care about the public, they don't listen to the public and they just want their money. At least give the game new features... From what I can see the only redeemable quality of MW3 is how you can edit your private game mods, rules etc... yet you cant gain XP on it, so it defeats the purpose.

    The upsides to this game are minimal at best. I had a look a few things;

    - Graphics
    - Storyline
    - Multiplayer
    - Stackable killstreaks
    - Community
    - Elite

    All of which were disgusting.

Let's start with the graphics; The graphics are terrible. They obviously don't want to use a different graphic engine, so they just keep recycling the same crap over and over again. With the amount of money the Call of Duty franchise make they could either get people to code them one, or make one themselves. It shows that the company has no desire to change the game in any shape or form, and are only concerned with one thing; the green.

Onto the singleplayer storyline; The storyline was average at best. It had some ok set-peices, but the storyline is just beefed up by explosions every two seconds. The characters are really average, and you would think after the decline in MW2, they would make some better characters... obviously not.

Multiplayer; Absolutely disgusting. You would think after the amount of complaining people did about not having dedicated servers in MW2, they would add a simple dedicated server browser... nope... of course not, why would they want to make our gaming experience any good at all? Everything about the online is crap... especially for PC. Xbox/PS3 gamers are used to matchmaking lobbies but PC gamers are not. No point buying this for PC.

Stackable killstreaks; Terrible idea all together. Should not have been implemented. Way to easy to get good stuff. It's a bad system for new players who aren't that great at this game.

Community; Absolutely deplorable community. 90% of the community are more concerned about their KD rather than teamwork and unity. They care more about how many kills they get and whether or not they top the leaderboard. You try to get help, you get smashed by all these 13 year old children raging on mic. Not to mention the fact that everybody is hostile 24/7 on CoD...

Elite; A copy of Battelog. hey you would think that they would make Elite work for PC's... obviously not straight away, that would be too good wouldn't it? People go on about how they say "Battlelog and Battlefield are the same as MW3" when they're completely different all together.

All up, I give this game a 0/10. There are no redeemable qualities about this game, every time I try to find one, it gets cancelled out by another con. I really wish the publishers/dev's would read these reviews, because nearly all of them are saying the same thing... saying that the game needs work, and needs to STOP being a carbon copy.

I am a BF3 player, but before you go jumping on the "YOU'RE A BF3 FANBOY AHHAHA **** I went into this game assuming it would be bad, yes, but I gave it a chance. I sat and played it. Played it on multiplayer on PC, Xbox and gave it a chance. I didn't like it so I'm posting a review.

Also, attention to IGN. I don't understand why the **** you guys are still in business... Oh that's right, you get paid off by every company to talk up their game in pre-release, then as soon as it comes out you talk **** about it... as soon as something get's announced, you then proceed to talk it up again. You pathetic money hungry ****s. I come to Metacritic for my reviews, because they're unbiased people.

Multiplayer brings the same old experience, adding nothing new to the table, with the lackluster maps, and a couple of new perks, which aren't at all that exciting. As for the look of the game, nothing has changed since, nor does it stand out, which again dampens the experience (especially when comparing to the likes of other newly released games such as Battlefield 3 and Uncharted 3). The only thing remotely enjoyable was the 'reinvented' Spec Op's mode, which is practically only enjoyable whilst playing with a friend. Experiencing the same mode through random joins i found myself to be doing most of the work, with many neglecting the focus of 'teamwork'. Yet as much as this was enjoyable, the mode becomes stale and repetitive (much like the franchise) very quickly. In hindsight, this game rates very poorly compared to other shooters available on the market today (both new and old). The game is stale and bland and short, whilst at the same time highlights the need for change, if the series wishes to survive and compete within future markets. Expand

It''s not that you can't have fun with this game, you can. The problem is that I already had fun with it for the last 5 years. The new class layout system and explosive damage reductions are welcome changes, but it's too little too late.

Much of what was included in this title should have been fixed in MW2 in the first place, but IW saw fit to ignore supporting their fans and let MW2 turn into a cesspool. MW3 balances a lot of things, though power weapons remain where being competitive relies on running the same set up as everyone else, leaving little variety in multiplayer game play unless you want to die a lot.

The cheating community appears to be as strong as ever. Having run in to an entire party of blatant cheaters in my first 2 lobbies. Along with that, there also appears to be a host hack already, allowing the user to force himself as host despite clearly not being the best pick. This is why the PC doesn't get any access to Elite, but it's not something that going to change anyway. If anything, they should give the PC players access to elite so it's easier to find and eliminate these players from the community.

That's not to say MW3 doesn't have any saving graces. The maps are much more well designed than previous titles. The unlock system is fine. The new classes where I can be more help without being a try hard are all welcome changes and are for the better. Unfortunately, it's not enough.

There's no innovation. Everything here has been seen before, often done much better. The sound in the game is absolute garbage compared to recent battlefield games. The engine is really showing its age graphically. If this was Modern Warfare 1, I would have said they struck the nail on the head. Unfortunately for IW and Activision, this title has simply confirmed that I will not be paying for the next CoD title set to be released November next year.
