Pretty good. Probably the most fun I've had in an FPS since Max Payne II. (The PC embodying what are at other time NPCs, the self-consciously cinematic quality, the slow-motion set pieces that aren't quite cutscenes, the recycling of certain environments just to run them backwards, all remind me of that game. But i digress.) COD4 is short; it clocks in at about 5-6 hours, which Pretty good. But i digress.) COD4 is short; it clocks in at about 5-6 hours, which is 1/3 the length of your typical game. To make up for it, the developers clearly tried to pack as much action into that 5 hours as possible. If games could be clocked on an APM meter (Action Per Minute, of course), COD4 would peg the scale. Like a typical shooter, you kill lots of the same enemies; unlike a typical shooter, however, it doesn't get boring because there's always a fresh, new objective you'll be working for. And yeah, you might kill waves of the same baddies again and again like a standard FPS, but as the plot drives relentlessly, and the uqiquitous firefights have clearly been engineered to be over-the-top intense. Moreover, it seems as if every sub-misson has its own hook, something imaginiative in it that leads to a different turn of gameplay. Perhaps the most radical of these is a sub-chapter in which you find yourself behind the turrets of an AC130 gunship, and your screen looks and sounds exactly like the night vision gun-camera footage you've probably seen on CNN. (There's really a lot that could be said here about the attention to fun and general creativity that the devs put into the missions, but I don't really have the time or space.) As for PC hardware requirements, they aren't too bad for a port. Unless you have a really high end machine, you should probably be playing on medium settings. Overall, it all ends up looking quite good, and COD4 is only moderately a resource hog, considering what you get to look at on the screen. Now the negatives, which I suspect most reviewers won't get into, simply because the game is such a good time. Your NPC is the"'FNG" of your special forces team, and yet the game is designed around a sort of stealthed point-capture system, in which every firefight could go on indefinitely, unless you, the FNG, charge to the next 'point'. That, in my mind, makes you the de facto leader of the squad, although your NPC companions, who outrank you, and are otherwise enjoyable, will never take the lead or do anything at all useful without you. One could argue that they are there only to trigger only door breachings, since no doors in the game are actually openable. Yeah, they shoot and move and seem to do all sorts of stuff, but if the success of a firefight always depends on the PC charging to the next 'point', and not how many endlessly-spawning NPC baddies get gunned down, then that's a game mechanic that makes your 'team' ultimately superfluous. What's worse is often your companions are downright frustrating because they are so good at doing nothing. In short, you can't rely on them to cover you back, or to think about shooting at that enemy around the corner, because they just won't. At the very end of the game, there's a rather cheap and frustrating section where you must enter a T-shaped hall, and you end up with baddies on the left and right. You must advance down one of them; but you get shot in the back if you try to shoot down one of the halls. And your two companions just stand there, a foot way, waiting for you to somehow kill both. Another negative: Character movement. There is no leaning, which is old-school by now, but COD4 doesn't have it, and it really needs it. If COD4 had R6 Vegas' 3rd person perspective while taking cover (which you do lots and lots of in COD4-- every point capture depends on it), it would be a beautiful thing. Multiplayer is pretty good, and the devs did right when they borrowed the rank system from RTCW for online play advancement. There is zero visual customization, however; R6 Vegas is king, to my mind, of war shooters that let you choose how your avatar will appear; in COD4 there is nothing. You get a randomly generated face, clothes, etc. Somewhat disappointing. All in all, it's a good game. Fun. Varied. Intense. Memorable. I've given it a solid 9. Expand

On the down side, you can tell it's built to work on consoles - the game holds your hand a bit too much, difficulty levels are fairly low and the environments don't have the sort of physics realism and detail that I'd expect from a high-end PC game in this day and age. This does have the advantage of making the game work well on less recent kit, but it just didn't wow me like, say, HL2 did when that first came out. A very solid 9 and well worth anyone's money, but unlikely to become an all-time classic. Expand

Realism is never a fair ground used to judge games. Personal preferences about realism of games is fine, but forcing your own beliefs and claiming that people are "shallow" because they play unrealistic games just proves that you're a self-centered snob. Furthermore, the Call of Duty series was never meant to take on a very realistic gameplay style. The graphics might not be as good as crysis, but it is unchallenged in optimsation, right out of the box - with barely any stuttering or frame rate drops, which is a hallmark technical masterpieces. As an entertainment product (and NOT a military simulation), COD4 clearly succeeds. Counter-strike fanboys most likely related COD4's multiplayer to Halo (which are undeniably similar) will usually give you every lame excuse they can think of to undermine this game just simply because of prejudice and their inability to have an open mind about games. Counter-strike is as much of a run and gun as COD4 when rifles and SMGs and concerned, sniping in both games are also very similar. It's just amazing to find people contradicting themselves by claiming that ranks are useless, yet counter-strike doesn't even feature anything like that. Weapon customisation is non-existent in counter-strike either. Expand

COD4 really needs to have something put into it that says "OK you've killed x ammount of baddies in this area, we won't spawn anymore" I found it really irritating to be sat in one spot and kill endless wave after wave of bad guys that just do not stop untill you get annoyed and take a risk and rush in and hope for the best, this is also where i feel the friendly AI lacks, it COD4 really needs to have something put into it that says "OK you've killed x ammount of baddies in this area, we won't spawn anymore" I found it really irritating to be sat in one spot and kill endless wave after wave of bad guys that just do not stop untill you get annoyed and take a risk and rush in and hope for the best, this is also where i feel the friendly AI lacks, it fails to take advantage of a situation that you create, it insteads waits for you to guide your team to the next action point by being up front and killing everything just for them to say "it's clear follwo us so you can do all the work again", Aside from the above however COD is and always has been an EPIC movie like game, the scripted sequences are truely draw dropping, The game does a good job with the story set up (remeber this is the first time cod has stepped into a fictional yet controversial setting) and the charecter building is amazing, so much so that when one of them dies your feel that you have just lost something dear to you and you want to avenge there death, many games fail to bring that ammount of depth. MP is a great blast if you like in your face combat, i am a little dissapointed at the size and liniarity of all the maps but they do not fail at setting up firefights, even if from the spawn point you can nade the enemy. Here's hoping that a patch is realesed to bring in a larger scale maps, but if not, CoD has a massive fan base and I like many others plan on making custom maps as soon as the tools are realeased. Lastly the Cod4 v Crysis Debate, I own both and have a top end system, Crysis is a hell of an Sp game and the Mp is fairly good as well, but CoD4 beats it on every thing except for Graphics. An excellent game, with near-photorealistic graphics and a physics engine that seems realistic and not over-the-top like many current games. I cannot figure out if it was the level design, nice game modes, good ingame communication or just our group of players that made CoD4 one of the best multiplayer FPS games I've played since CoD1 (haven't tried many in between). Since then multiplayer games seem to have lost the way to team players up (maybe the console gaming with players have to few buttons!?).

The singleplayer game is quite straight forward with some awesome moments (The Aftermath) and some horrible flaws: You are the super soldier who has to blow up things, shoot any enemy, push forward -- which hinders you from playing a support gunner covering your team -- and do all the stuff your teammates can't, but you CANNOT OPEN DOORS! At any point the game has a door you have to wait for your team to open the door and take away all action from you -- okay, in terms of story telling and stopping you from killing important NPCs, it is a way. Still it feels like you are missing the general key to the world anyone else has....
    +++
After all the game tells its story pretty good without having a whole invasion going on and killing you once an hour for random story reasons. Graphics have reached a sufficient level, anything more is nice to have and forces the player to buy better equipment without any more gain. Multiplayer was a pleasure to play offline and was absolutely worthwhile!

Call of Duty 4 is the best COD game. It haves a great multiplayer and a fantastic single player. Believe me, you will be playing this game for years. The story mode is short, but this game may have the best story mode for shooters. Is a must have for all gamers. And, almost forgot, the multi player is the best reason to buy this game. 96 out of 100

In an ideal world, the masses would still be playing this game, as it is essentially identical to MW:Ghosts. Unfortunately people are stupid and they purchase re-hashed versions of COD4 over and over again so the player population is all over the place.

Seriously, this game defined the shooter genre we know today. No need to buy "new" shooters.

This, is my opinion, is the only Call of Duty worth paying 60 dollars for. All of the other Modern Warfares or Black Ops' are map packs for this game. It's sad to see how downhill the rest of the franchise has gone, but Call of Duty 4 will always be a respected, well made masterpiece.

This is the only COD game i think is better then Battlefield. -Battlefield 4 But the reason it is so good is becuase you can connect to the characters in the campaign and also the modding community is amazing! It's so good they have such good mods eg. Star Wars mod and Prop hunt. The gameplay is spectacular and all the guns feel real. There were a few jumpy bits. Like in one of the missions dogs jump you. You can hear them but you can't see them. My favoraite mission is War Pig. I love seeing the AI being slaughtered in that mission.
I recommend this game till the day I die. I will never forget this game!

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I know what you are thinking: haven't I given this game a terrible review before? Well, to tell you the truth, the real reasons why I didn't like this game at first are that for one thing, so many people hate this series' most recent installments. Along with that, I just couldn't get over how the Search and Destroy multiplayer mode was just a carbon copy ofCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I know what you are thinking: haven't I given this game a terrible review before? Well, to tell you the truth, the real reasons why I didn't like this game at first are that for one thing, so many people hate this series' most recent installments. Along with that, I just couldn't get over how the Search and Destroy multiplayer mode was just a carbon copy of Counter-Strike. However, I then played the original Call of Duty (back when the game was WWII based rather than a fictional modern war), and I really enjoyed it. I then wondered: should I give this game another try? So, did I enjoy this game more the second time around, or do I still want to attack the people that created this game? Let's find out. This game plays a lot like any other first-person shooter. You have multiple weapons, there are plenty of enemies to fight, and pretty much everything else that makes a shooter what it is. The difference between this game and the others is that this game is much more cinematic. Because this game takes place in a modern war, you will often be fighting with squad members, explosions and firefights going on in the background, and many more enemies to fight than in a normal shooter. This game also succeeds where I have seen many other shooters fail: when I play this game, I actually feel like I'm in the middle of a war. While there have been shooters that prove that war is not necessary to make a good shooter, (Half-Life 1, BioShock, Doom, Borderlands), Call of Duty 4 really shines in how it makes you feel like you're in the middle of a war. I originally harshly criticized this game's AI. However, looking back at it, the AI really isn't that bad. At the very least, it does get the job done of making you feel like you're in a war. The game may also be very easy, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun. It is also redundant, but it is redundant in a way that is fresh and enjoyable. As for the lack of skill, as it turns out, I was also wrong here. It does actually require some skill to kill enemies. In the end, the single player campaign is actually pretty good, and I don't know why I didn't enjoy it at first. As for the multiplayer, I actually enjoyed it a lot more the second time around when I played it. Yes, its modes are taken from other shooters, however, it feels far more fresh and new here. In Unreal Tournament team deathmatch, your team is mostly spread out, and you fight through corridors. Here, you all start out in the same spot, and you fight in much more open areas. The same goes for normal deathmatch and domination. As for Search and Destroy, while it does rip-off Counter-Strike, it also makes more of a use of the open maps. It also has two unique modes called Headquarters and Sabotage that are really fun to play. Also, I criticized the kill streaks in my first review, but I now realize that the kill streaks actually make the game far more unique, and not just "Unreal Tournament in Modern Warfare". The gameplay of this game is actually pretty enjoyable, and I have no idea why I criticized it at first. As for the graphics, while they do look somewhat dated even by 2007, they certainly don't look muddy. They actually look really good. The environments are actually very well detailed, and pretty to look at. The soldiers look good too. It may not look as good as Crysis or BioShock, both of which were released on the same year, but it still looks quite good nonetheless. As for the story, I originally thought it was terrible because it was too easy to understand and explain. However, I now realize that I was wrong about this. It is actually good because it is easy to understand and explain. Basically the British and the U.S. Army have to go across the world to Russia and the Middle East in order to stop terrible men from taking over the world. The game may have a huge lack of character development, but I feel like it's not really needed here. In fact, the game is good enough with out that. The story may not be as good as the gameplay and graphics, but it is compelling enough to be interested in. Overall, this game is nowhere near is bad as I initially said it was. I was letting the haters of this franchise cloud my judgement. It really is a pretty solid game. I would recommend it to pretty much anyone who is a shooter fanboy. It is not the best shooter ever made or anything. However, it is safe to say I will not criticize this franchise anymore. To all of you Call of Duty players out there who want to play the game, go right ahead. I will not even try to stop you.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Best call of duty game since MW2/Black ops. This game is great. All the guns feel different and unique and nothing shoots like a laser beam in this game! You have to learn and practice with each fun to really utilize it and the TTK (time to kill) is much less forgiving in this one. You no longer can just be a bullet sponge and walk through bullets to kill someone across the map with an smg. The gun load out options and numerous numerous choices for gun customization is brilliant. And GOOD RIDDANCE 10 point selection system. My favorite thing about this game, no handicaps! which is how the old games are and what I used to love about call of duty when I played competitively. The last handful of games in the franchise were so boring and so focused on allowing any 7 year old who is terrible at coordinating and shooting to be able to hang with people who are versed and seasoned at FPS games. If you wanna be good... you better git gud. No more holding your hand. The new engine makes the game look great and feel great most of the time. The story is compelling and really sucked me in on realism mode, albeit waaaay too short. The gritty real world feel and war centric themes of this game are so enjoyable. I know some people are being sensitive about it, but this is real life and you aren’t forced to play the game. Although we are forced to live in reality... you’re gonna be ok. There are 2 other topics in which I know people are complaining. One I agree with and one I do not. Let’s start with 1...camping. Ditching the 3 lanes model for this game is a breathe of fresh air! I honestly hated that setup for shooter maps. That being said this has made it possible for people to camp regularly again like the days of old! And does that bother me? NOT ONE BIT. this is another example of the handicaps I was talking about. Now whether you like it or not, camping is a play style and it happens in real life and warfare. I am not a camper myself I am very much a runner and gunner. But i don’t think people shouldn’t be allowed to do it. That just means it’s another obstacle to overcome and a challenge for me to kill and beat the campers scores alike with everyone else’s! Mw2 days, somebody camping consistently?.. ok. Time for a baby Monitor on my m4 with grenades and shotguns. I’m gonna find you, see you, kill you, and destroy your tax insert over and over. So don’t throw a fit and ask these devs to create more handicaps. It just ends up ruining the games much more. Now for the second biggest gripe... the maps. OOOOOOOH GOD THE MAPS! Now there are a few I really enjoy and they all look great. But this game has a lot of maps that just didn’t seem fully thought out. There are maps where depending on the side you spawn you have an advantage over the other team. Thinking bad on mw2, black ops... I can’t think of maps I really didn’t enjoy or hated. Most maps had their place and were pretty enjoyable. Where the maps on this game I feel myself rolling my eyes a majority of the time when i see the map choice in the lobby. I’m very much looking forward to map DLC and some old school maps coming back! FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD GIVE US THE ORIGINAL TERMINAL!!! Other than that this is a solid game and I am enjoying it a lot with all my friends!! Hopefully this isn’t ruined by activision in the near future with a bunch of crazy monetization that nobody wants. But only time will tell! Expand

I'm only reviewing the Campaign here, although we know that multiplayer make this a powerhouse series, This brief experience is still among the best. In outside perspective, Call of Duty really looks like a generic shooter, but if played right; could be an ideal tactical simulation.

The things that stand out to me the most is the companions. The way they breach and called out actions is fantastically implemented paired with the smoothest and satisfying combat gives you a refined involvement.

Despite the fact that it's getting old, having a noticeable vertices and aging texture; The graphics are still a beauty in my eyes. The way they designed it is one of my favorite things about linear games; where the atmosphere is giving you the illusion that the world is actually massive.

The last Call of Duty games I've finished was Call of Duty 2 when I was about 11 years old and I don't even know what we're actually fighting for there. Now that I can understand a bit of things, I'd appreciate now how they portrayed wars through different eyes to show the carnage of it.

Amazing game! Pacing of this game is so on point, you'll neve get bored. Superb characters and lot of memorable moments. All packages is so well crafted that I can't believe that Cod4 came only one year after Cod3. Definitely must play for everyone.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is one of the most legendary FPS games ever. The year was 2007, which was one of the best game years. The first Assassin's Creed. The year was 2007, which was one of the best game years. The first Assassin's Creed. The first Crysis and actually the first real COD? How to say it. Previous episodes of Call of Duty were great, but the fourth one with the subtitle Modern Warfare comes with something else and, as the name suggests, a more modern one. Times have shifted here and we are no longer in war for the Nazis, but we are in modern times, where we already have a better arsenal of weapons with better equipment in general, such as the legendary night vision. Right at the beginning of the game, there is a legendary training that will recommend the difficulty on which you should play the game and then let you go on your first mission, which will take you to the ship. On this ship you will get a delicious event with an ending, where you just call WAU. So it was a massacre. Right after the end of this mission, however, the game will take you to the next one, which is much calmer and you don't have much action going on. Why am I telling you all this? Because this is the main point of the whole campaign of the fourth Call of Duty, and that is dosing, which is perfect. At one point, the game will bring out a large portion of action on you, where you will shoot head to head, and then let you breathe again in a mission where you will go rather stealth and while I'm at that stealth. Yeah, he's a master here. The mission where you will slowly creep will get under your skin and especially one that takes place specifically in one location is, in my opinion, the best mission we have experienced in Call of Duty. I will not spoiler which location it is. I can only say that as far as the atmosphere is concerned, it is perhaps at the very top of the series, but the others are also amazing and I think the best ones and overall the campaign here is really delicious, I think Call of Duty can never overcome this. I'm still writing poems about how luxurious a single is, but I don't forget about multiplayer, which is also one of the best. This is mainly due to the fact that there are community servers available specifically on the PC, where players can set up all sorts of things that will enhance your experience and simply offer something that developers would never do. Overall, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is an excellent change to the series, where the authors managed to move from war times to, say, more modern wars. An amazing game for me that I can recommend. Nasıl Half Life zamanında fps shooter türünü baştan aşağı değiştirdiyse 2000'lerin ortalarında aynısını geri döndürülemez şekilde bu oyun yaptı.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare oldukça keyif alarak oynadığım Birinci Şahıs Nişancı oyunlarından biri oldu. Biraz hikayeden bahsedelim. Oyunun hikayesini takip etmekte ben biraz zorlandım, hikaye anlatımının pek iyi olduğunu söyleyemem. Fakat hikayedeki bazı karakterleri sevdim, özellike Yüzbaşı Price karakteri bence diğerlerinden daha iyiydi. Oyuna Soap MacTavish isimli karakteri kontrol ederek başlıyoruz, oyun bir poligonda başlıyor. Bu poligonda Soap MacTavish'in eğitimi tamamlıyoruz. Her ülkede farklı karakterlerin perspektifinden oynuyoruz. Expand

A beautifully crafted first-person shooter, but without a compelling context. How much does that matter? To me, a little. Not a lot, but it nags. [Dec 2007, p.73]

Though the single-player lacks length, the multiplayer should keep you invested in COD4 for the long winter. This is a truly fantastic multiplayer offering that's as deep as any other online game available.
  3. It’s absolutely relentless in its assault on the senses and never lets up until the last trigger has been squeezed. The multiplayer is even better, with the perks and weapon upgrades acting as a balance to the lack of vehicles.
