Bloodroots is a high-speed slash-and-bash extravaganza that always makes you want to beat "just one more level."

Bloodroots is a crazy funny game where everything – everything! – can become your weapon. Ever wondered how does it feel killing your enemies wielding a carrot? Now you can know.

Colorful, frantic, and with plenty of weapons at our disposal, Bloodroots is a nice surprise that will certainly appeal to those who enjoy the kind of one-hit-kill action Hotline Miami offered.

In the super violent world of Bloodroots, everything becomes either a weapon or something to kill. Every time you die there’s something new to learn, and while it’s definitely a flawed experience, becoming better and stylishly killing everything coming your way is a thrilling experience nonetheless.

If you are looking for a deep interactive narrative and a complex gameplay loop then I’d also advise you to pass on this. Like Ape Out or Redeemer, the core gameplay loop here is about cathartic fun and creative destruction. The environmental objects, changing challenges, and chaotic action mean that while there is only one button to attack, that rarely gets old.

Bloodroots is an aesthetically gorgeous, grindhouse inspired action game with a glorious combat system that’s unfortunately spoiled by some poorly designed platforming segments that just refuse to gel with the game’s core mechanics.

If you're looking for a quick and bloody challenge, Bloodroots is a great pick. Running through levels and cutting down foes always feels satisfying, and its wide array of weapons is a pleasure to use. Bloodroots is a fast and frantic rush of violence.

In short, there are some burrs, yet Bloodroots succeeds in its twofold undertaking: to pay homage to the original title of Dennaton Games by packaging an "action-without-respite" with its own identity. Warmly recommended for those looking for a valuable, fun and at the right price indie.

Bloodroots is a brutally good slasher that often outstays its own welcome.

A good arcade game, too bad for excessive repetitiveness.

It won’t be a hit of Hotline Miami’s proportions but the game is well worth recommending to all fans of the genre. Especially because everything, that’s not welded to the ground, can become a weapon. [05/2020, p.76]

Much like its hero, then, Bloodroots is perhaps a touch bloated in the middle - but the gore-soaked trail it'll trace in your mind will leave a lasting mark. [Issue#343, p.110]

Bloodroots is a good game with different finishes and links in the use of items, but it clearly lacks development, and the bright mechanics and blood are too quickly exhausted. And unlike My Friend Pedro or Hotline Miami, there is no feeling of excitement and pleasure from the just-tested combat combination. This is probably the main reason for frustration.

Before you saddle up to take on Bloodroots, you need to ask yourself one question. Do you like pain? The pain of being killed constantly while trying to time a perfect combo. The pain of having finally killed all the baddies, only to plummet to your doom because of a misplaced jump. The pain of being hit once and having to start that section of the level over again. Over and over.

It's as if someone took a mobile game, stripped it of its microtransactions, and forgot to replace the lost game mechanics. The resulting soup is pretty darn thin. Full Review »

I have played 8 hours, time that it has taken me to pass the game.
It is a good game, but it lacks development, there is no sense of excitement and pleasure.
It lacks a story that can hook you and the mechanics become repetitive and sometimes frustrating, boring shortly after playing it.
It is a good game to play occasionally since in no time it finishes hooking.
I would give it a 6, but the short duration and its high price 16.79€, force me to give it a score of 2, since the cost of the games cannot be tolerated compared to what they offer you.
