Blazing Chrome understands exactly what made the older titles tick. It has the look and sound of classic titles, and it emulates the gameplay really well. The action is relentless, and boss fights reward skill over pure ammo dumping. The game doesn't go for adding on extras from other genres, relying instead on pure gameplay to drive the title. The short length, which was normal for offerings from that time period and genre, is buoyed by gameplay modes that feel worthwhile instead of tacked on. For run-and-gun fans, Blazing Chrome is an essential addition to the gaming library.

Blazing Chrome is a great game for its kind, as it could easily be declared as a sequel of Contra, without anyone being misunderstood. If you want to test your skills on a hard-boiled old school run 'n' gun game, you will not find anything better than this one.

Blazing Chrome is the coin op you didn't play in the arcade, the cartridge that never came out for Neo Geo, the game you didn’t know you missed so much. A game with spasmodic, sadistic and punitive action, just as we liked in the 90s.

This adrenaline-pumping, tough as nails run-and-gunner, isn't retro-inspired, but pure retro! Besides that, it's also tons of fun. That being said, it has a couple of issues, like some annoying hit-boxes, a lack of balance in terms of difficulty and weaponry, and, finally, the fact that it doesn't add anything new to the genre. It's great, but it could be so much more.

Blazing Chrome is a great platformer - but a very difficult one. It’s a delight for all fans of Contra or Metal Slug or, more generally, for anyone looking for a wonderfully punishing time.

With low-texture pixel art and an FM synth-rock soundtrack, Blazing Chrome is best described as a spiritual successor to Contra games from the 16-bit era. A 16:9 aspect ratio, devastating enemy attacks and upgradable weapons give Blazing Chrome a unique sense of thrill and exhilaration. Heavily inspired by older games yet original at the same time, Blazing Chrome’s refined level design will have you learn each time you die. Fighting your way through this classic run-and-gun game is like reliving an experience that never gets old.

Look closely, Konami, for this is how a Contra game should look and play like! Blazing Chrome doesn’t win a price für originality, nor does it reinvent the action genre. It’s just a damn well-made game.

Although Blazing Chrome sticks fairly closely to the formula of games like Metal Slug and Contra, its great boss encounters, responsive gameplay, and 16-bit pixel art make it a faithful homage to an underrepresented subgenre.

Beating Blazing Chrome is a badge of honor, the latest test of skill tossed onto a pile of old cartridges. You can spend hours and hours grinding out this handful of stages, experiencing both intense frustration and the rush of victory. In a world where there are so many options for your free time, the thought of grinding away at a game like this just seems insane. But to all the crazy people who disagree and want a throwback like this, I raise my glass.

If you want a new Contra game, that’s exactly what Blazing Chrome promises and delivers. Joymasher has done this better than any indie developer I can think of, bringing Contra back with absolutely everything that entails.

Blazing Chrome is a classic shooter that might not be appealing to the newer generation of gamers, but it's perfect for old school shooter fans or those who are willing to give it a chance.

Blazing Chrome could be simply be described as a spiritual sequel to Contra III and Contra: Hard Corps, using those games as a strict template for its weapons, difficulty, stage and enemies design as well as total length. Although we are more than happy with most of these similarities with those games, we would definitely prefer to differentiate itself from them at least in the total number of levels. As it is it’s highly enjoyable albeit quite a bit on the short side.

A frantic co-op shooter in the same vein as Contra, Blazing Chrome is an electrified, 16-bit inspired run-and-gun game that will keep your trigger finger numb and your profanities loud.

    Pros.:

    - Esthetics, design, retro wave (synth wave).
    - The attitude towards the player at the end (after credits).
    - Variability of guns and characters.

    Cons.:
    - There are missions and minions that are created just to kill the player and make the gameplay overly difficult even on medium mode. For example, if the enemy fire touches you slightly, you're dead. Instead of making it like in Contra, when if the bullet touches a tip of the foot, you're still alive.
    - If they make the game with that hard vehicle mode (moving, shooting, jumping, multiple actions), need more checkpoints. Otherwise, it's harder than Battletoads.

Those cons are not critical but really worsen my gameplay experience. Even though I bought the controller JUST for this game. Keyboard controls are unbearable.
