    Excellent atmosphere and world. Allows different playstyles to take on enemies. Some quests in the game are boring and tedious. Story is excellent (often overshadowed by its excellent twist). Gunplay is great. Locations different and well constructed.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really enjoyed this game, although I felt it took longer than it should have. The game was supposed to end with Ryan's death and with our character discovering the truth that was told to us by Fontaine and in Bioshock 2 it started from there. For a 2007 game, it's an amazing game, with very good and charismatic characters and an amazing voice acting! The story is also amazing, with an excellent plot twist. The world is also amazing, an amazing level design that captivates us to explore.… Expand

    Not just a great FPS but a great game in general. Wonderful story combined with visuals of a decaying utopia. A masterpiece in every sense of the word.

    This game is experience to say the least. The theming in my opinion is definitely the best part with the beautiful, eerie suspenseful song track to hearing the splicers just talk to themselves. Just look up the "Bioshock Moments: Jesus Loves" video on YouTube and you can just feel the thick atmosphere creeping up on you. I sometimes will just hum it or sing the gatherer's garden song. TheThis game is experience to say the least. The theming in my opinion is definitely the best part with the beautiful, eerie suspenseful song track to hearing the splicers just talk to themselves. Just look up the "Bioshock Moments: Jesus Loves" video on YouTube and you can just feel the thick atmosphere creeping up on you. I sometimes will just hum it or sing the gatherer's garden song. The combat is satisfying and rewarding. Plus the plasmids are a great way to give freedom to the player on how they approach the setting.     This is one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played. Very cool setting.

    The underwater city with psychos with superpowers, big daddies and little sisters, the entourage of the 60s of the last century. Great storyline and great gameplay.

    I'm writing a review and I don't know what are the disadvantages of this game.

    Bioshock is one of the best games I've ever played, game play, storyline, sound, and graphics all top notch, loved the water effects. I've played it several times through, always found content I missed before.

    The world-building is phenomenal. Right off the bat were introduced to Rapture and grasp a basic idea of the world around us. But, still we ask questions, and those questions push us to beat the game; to find out the true mystery and origins of Rapture.

    Cutscenes do not take up a big portion of the game. We play through entire sections without cutscenes, and it still tells its story wonderfully without a break from the addicting nature of the gameplay.

    The remastered definitely improves upon the original with modern visuals and graphics, and better optimization.

    While playing the game, the gameplay and storytelling wouldn't let me close the application. I literally have to force myself to hop off my PC. If it weren't for that, then I'd probably sit there and play it all day.

    The mechanics such as plasmids, tonics, and upgrades really innovated the FPS genre to a whole new degree upon its release. Its influence on the industry, really shows how much of a masterpiece it is..

    ..Not to say, there isn't flaws. But, dammit, the storytelling and gameplay make up for it!    … Expand

    I consider this game as overrated. The atmosphere needed to be the main aspect of this game and it dint reach on me at all. The world design is poor and I tend to believe that games like that just tried to leech the success of half life 2.

    When I first played this game on steam I played 30% percent of the game and never touched it again. Two years went by, and I thought of the game one day and I tried to beat it.     Una parada obligatoria si sos fanatico de los juegos de rol

    Un juego muy distinto al de los demas RPG basado en una ciudad submarina, llena de "locos", monstruos y niñas con enormes jeringas. La jugabilidad me parecio muy buena, la forma de utilizar los plasmidos que serian las habilidades, las mejoras del personaje. En el juego tenes unos puzzles que se utilizan para hackear robots,    Una parada obligatoria si sos fanatico de los juegos de rol

    Un juego muy distinto al de los demas RPG basado en una ciudad submarina, llena de "locos", monstruos y niñas con enormes jeringas.

    La jugabilidad me parecio muy buena, la forma de utilizar los plasmidos que serian las habilidades, las mejoras del personaje. En el juego tenes unos puzzles que se utilizan para hackear robots, maquinas y camaras de seguridad, que al principio parecen interesantes pero con el pasar del tiempo se vuelven super repetitivos, me hubiera gustado mas variedad en este sentido. Ademas de ser un RPG tambien es un shooter, y en este aspecto pierde y por mucho, siendo un sistema tosco y con muy poco "feedback", es decir, el sonido de las armas y la forma de disparar son muy malas.

    La historia me parece muy buena, atrapandote desde el comienzo, tiene una duracion de 12 horas, con 3 finales diferentes dependiendo de lo que elijas hacer con las Little Sisters. Lo jugue con el doblaje en español de España, siendome imposible de cambiar al ingles, los dialogos son buenos pero con el tiempo las voces de los enemigos se vuelven suuuper repetitivas, me los aprendi de memoria ya

    Graficamente me parece muy bueno para la epoca, a pesar de que haya jugado la version remasterizada que no mejora mucho ni soluciona varios de sus inconvenientes.    … Expand

It seemd to me the game not require an exploration of weak points of enemies, so sometimes I feel that it doesn't matter what skills or weapons to use. Shooting doesn't really feel real, like you use toy weapons with plastic bullets. But game has very good sound,Interesting and gloomy world with well-designed locations and good story.     Bioshock was the game I have never heard anyone telling something bad about. Whenever someone says "Bioshock" you can be sure word "masterpiece" is coming. So it is no wonder that the first game I decided to play on my first ever gaming PC was Bioshock (should I even specify that I played the remastered version since the original and the remastered edition look exactly the same and at thisBioshock was the game I have never heard anyone telling something bad about. So it is no wonder that the first game I decided to play on my first ever gaming PC was Bioshock (should I even specify that I played the remastered version since the original and the remastered edition look exactly the same and at this point I am not even sure it is a bad thing because when I was playing the game I really loved the visuals but I thought to myself that's all because it is a remastered version. Can you imagine how surprised I was when I saw comparison with the original edition? Bioshock basically looks gorgeous even by today's standarts! I think that's because the designers didn't try to create something super-realistic but instead decided to create their own universe with their own style (something similiar was done in Mirror's Edge which still will look nice no matter how many years passed).

    Nonetheless I kind of regret choosing Bioshock as my first game. Now as I play more and more videogames I appreciate Bioshock's gameplay and approach more and more everyday. What makes this game standout among others is its subtle way of telling the story, the revolutionary gameplay, the unique and immersive setting, the philosophy the Rapture is based on - all that stuff is easy to miss for a new gamer.    … Expand

Even though some game aspects, such as enemy AI work, gunplay and confusing level design aged not so well, first Bioshock still may be considered as the iconic piece of art , thanks to potent plot and ideas embedded in it. Unfortunately there are so few good games in steampunkI couldn't even imagine that a game released 14 years ago would be able to seize my attention so intensely.     Bioshock is set in beautiful underwater city named rapture, where you are able to see life everywhere you look whether it be the neon lights of raptures interior, or the lush reefs and ocean life of the exterior, Raptures beautiful yet dark and twisted aesthetic will be sure to blow you away every time you explore it. Somehow the developers managed to make one of the most terrifying yet beautiful environments I've seen in a video game ever. You get the feeling you are always being stalked and watched from every corner by the splicers of Rapture, who may I add have such a cool design with the mutilated bodies and red hot hooks attached to their hands, they twist and contort their bodies in an inhuman like fashion; it really gives you a sense of how ****** up the city under the sea really is, on a first playthrough it immediately sparks your interest on what had happened to the city everyone before you had described as a utopia. And that is one of the most important part of games making a great first impression to keep the player interested the whole time, and Bioshock does that in strides. From you constantly questioning who is really the bad guy here, and depending on your actions it could even be you. I don't want to say to much about the story of this game but it as the best in any game ever, and the first experience feels like a real playable movie and very great one at that. I could go on for hours but you simply have to play it to found out why this game is really held in such high regards, and for those who have you know what I'm talking about.    … Expand

    My original review for this game was a 7 - This was my first time playing this game and I couldn't help but return back to it or think about it constantly when not playing the game.
    The setting is beautiful however it does feel very linear. The body Mods are cool. The story is amusing yet unfortunately predictable ending. Beautiful game

    Will always be one of my favorite titles of all time. The story... the environment... the gameplay... its all so enjoyable! This game makes me feel good while playing it. It does a really good job at putting the player into this crazy under the sea city full of horror and beauty. I don't think there's another game that I've played through so many times. 10/10 for me!

    I never understood the hype with this game. The gameplay is meh and the story is meh. I did like how scary the game can be with lights and figures moving out of place. The idea of the city is pretty cool with how beautiful it was being underwater. Overall my enjoyment was meh.

Bioshock is one of the best classics on PC alongside the original Half-Life, an iconic title that nails atmosphere and story perfectly, i have no single complaint against Bioshock, it's a magical experience, the first time we saw rapture was like the tram sequence in 1998. Bioshock's visuals are timeless and the story is so powerful that can still be affective 13 years later. After the big twist is revealed the game kind of loses its edge but the endings and the final areas are so deep and worthwhile, now the final boss can be a bit disappointing but the endings makes up for it. Bioshock is the ultimate first-person shooter experience of the 2000's and one of the best games ever made.… Expand

After playing it to the end, Bioshock was ruling my mind, i was thinking all the time about this game, the meaning behind jack's journey, the atmosphere, the art deco art style and so on. Bioshock was too beautiful and meaningful to be forgotten about, it was a game that changed my perspective in many ways, fort frolic was enough for me to understand this game was something special.     Picked this game up during a steam sale and have zero regrets. Still holds up in 2021 and truly marked itself as a classic. The athletics are amazing, followed by the voice acting and the music it is truly on my list of top 3 games. Worth it? YESYESYESYESYES!

    Bioshock is one of the best shooter games ever released. Its clever and thrilling story is a blockbuster in comparison to many of the primitive and unimaginative shooter games released around the same time. A wonderful steam-punk mix between FPS and RPG. Must have!

    This game isn't just another first person shooter game. The story is so good. This game proves video games are art. The way Rapture looks shows the disaster that happened. The lore is so interesting. The story pulls you in and I begged for the story not to end. This game is a must play and is a masterpiece.

    2007 was the biggest year in gaming and this was the biggest game of that year. Still the 5th highest rated PC game on Metacritic and a shoe in for top 5 FPS games ever along with Golden Eye 007 and Half-Life 2. The atmosphere, the theme, and the lore provided by the audio diaries scattered throughout Rapture are perfect. The story isn't perfect because it loses a lot of its uniqueness after playing through it more than once. Gameplay mechanics are not perfect either but doesn't really take away from the overall experience.

    When it comes to how the game has aged, I will say this: gameplay mechanics can and did age, but lore, atmosphere, the theme, and overall feel didn't. 97/100 rounded up to a 10 is my personal score for the game.    … Expand

    The combat must have been pretty revolutionary for the time. The AI is really good even by today's standards, and the plasmids are pretty fun to play around with. The world is probably the coolest part of the game, but it's dragged down, for me, by the fact that you don't really form a relationship with any characters in it. There are characters, but your interaction with them is solely via them talking at you over the radio. That said, Andrew Ryan is at least a pretty compelling character.

    It's not a masterpiece for me, though, because the story is just decent. Everyone says it is a masterpiece, everyone says Ken Levine is a brilliant storyteller, but I just don't see it. After playing all of the bioshock games, I do think this is the strongest story, and perhaps one of the best video game stories ever at the time it came out, but it really does not even come close to the standards that have been set in recent years. Granted, my experience may have been tainted a bit by the main twist being spoiled for me because it has become so notorious. But great twists should still be compelling even if you know they're coming (e.g., the Red Wedding), and this was not at all. This is still a good game, but I really do not understand why everyone loves this series so much.    … Expand

    Gioco che trovo sopravvalutato a livello di trama, ma divertente per il suo gameplay. Bioshock è un gioco Ok e mi ha divertito molto, ma mi aspettavo di più a livello narrativo visto che tutti lo elogiavano sempre su quel aspetto. In ogni caso mi è piaciuto ma non lo considero uno dei migliori giochi di sempre.

    Взлом... в первые разы кажется что прикольно, но вскоре игра с нокии про трубопровод, начинает очень сильно раздражать, спасибо хоть за отмычки...

    Ругать игру можно, так как действительно много чего раздражает и не понятно почему сделали так, но как бы я её сейчас не ругал, после прохождения , отличной концовки, коих тут две , меня посетила мысль, что игра все-таки очень крутая, с крутыми колоритными персонажами.     It's been compared to SYSTEM SHOCK which is ludicrous. SYSTEM SHOCK bled atmosphere, Shodan was a unique adversary that attained cult status. The idea with having all NPCs replaced by audio logs and emails was completely new here and it fits perfectly. Even DOOM 3 ripped off this idea. The graphics - now of course    Playing BIOSHOCK I can't help but wonder, what's all the fuss about?

    BIOSHOCK has zero atmosphere. It looks too sterile, too polished. Instead of space you play in an under water city - but it doesn't feel real: you feel like in an aquarium with wallpaper pasted all along.
    Enemy variety is lacking and the main villain is forgettable.
    Sounds are terrible - guns don't sound like this guys! Controls are clunky as hell. Combat is just terrible, as is the level design! SYSTEM SHOCK came out in 1994, almost 13 years before BIOSHOCK and it mops the floor with BIOSHOCK in every category except of course technically.
    BIOSHOCK is seriously overrated.    … Expand

Oyunumuz uçağımızın düşmesi ile uçak enkazının ortasında kendimizi bulmamız ile başlıyor. Ardından yakındaki bir kuleye doğru yüzüp burada batısfer görüyoruz, bu batısfer bizi okyanusun dibindeki Rapture'a götürüyor ve maceramız burada başlıyor. Burada Atlas diye biri ile ekip olup birçok kişiyi öldürüyoruz. Şehrin yöneticisi Andrew Ryan'a gelene kadar çeşitli düşmanları öldürdükten sonra, hikayenin en önemli yeri olan Ryan'I öldürme kısmına geliyoruz. Ryan bizi aslında kendini Atlas diye tanıtan Frank Fontain'in yarattığını söylüyor. Kanıt olarak da "rica etsem" kelimesini bizim üzerimizde kullanıyor. Fontain, bizi "rica etsem" kelimesine itaat etmek için yaratmış. Yani biz bir tür köle gibi bir şeyiz. Burada Fontain'in plazmitleri kendi üzerinde kullandığını ve çok güçlü bir mutanta dönüştüğünü görüyoruz. Ardından oyunun son Boss savaşı patlak veriyor, burada Fontain'in 4 barı var, bu barlar bittiği zaman Fontain yeniden doğuyor. Onu 3 defa yendikten sonra 4.'de Küçük Kız Kardeşler olaya dahil oluyor ve Fontain'in işini bitiriyorlar, oyun buradan sonra 2 farklı sondan biri ile bitiyor; eğer oyun boyunca karşılaştığınız tüm Küçük Kız Kardeşler'i kurtarmışsanız oyun iyi sonla bitiyor. Eğer karşılaştığınız Küçük Kız Kardeşler'den birini veya birden fazlasını iyileştirmek yerine hasta ettiyseniz oyun kötü sonla bitiyor. Oyunun tamamı Rapture denilen distopyada geçiyor ve buradaki mekanlar, bölümler çok güzel ve özenli bir şekilde hazırlanmış, oyuncu oyuna başlar başlamaz o atmosferi hissediyor. Ben oyunun remastered sürümünü oynadım, remastered sürümü 2016 senesine çıkmış olmasına rağmen yine de o senenin stantartlarının altında bir remastered olmuş. Sadece kaplamaları ve ışıklandırmaları biraz elden geçirmişler o kadar, 2007'deki sürümü ile aman aman bir farkı yok remastered'ın yani. Ayrıca oyunu SSD'de oynamama rağmen oyunun yüklenme süreleri çok uzun. Oyunun açılması 1 dakikayı buluyor ve oyunu kaydetmek istediğim zaman yine 5-6 saniyelik bir yükleme ekranı çıkıyor, halbuki diğer oyunlarda oyunumu beklemeden kaydedebiliyorum. Oyunu oynarken çok büyük olmasa da birkaç kez hatalar ile karşılaştım. Vuruş hissi olarak bazı silahlar iyi, bazı silahlarda ise kötü. Genel olarak oyunun fizik motoru da pek iyi değil. Oyunda ölünce son kayıt noktası yerine "canlanma noktası" denen yerden başlıyoruz, bu da bazen zaman kaybetmemize sebep oluyor. Başta da söylediğim gibi, bu oyun iyisiyle kötüsüyle benim bugüne kadar oynadığım en iyi Aksiyon-Birinci Şahıs Nişancı oyunlarından biriydi.     To jedna ze słabszych stron tej produkcji, ♥♥♥♥ strzelanie nie powinno być aż tak ważne, ale prawda jest taka że na wyższych poziomach trudności jest tego sporo. Większość broni nie brzmi i nie zachowuje się tak jakbyśmy się tego spodziewali. Najgorszym przykładem jest karabin maszynowy, który poza beznadziejnym feeligiem, jest dość dobry co sprawia że używa się go dość sporo nie czerpiąc z tego za dużo przyjemności.
    BUGI
    Gra niestety posiada wiele błędów. Przeładowywanie kuszy, ai i wile innych. Mnie najbardziej denerwowały błędy w menu głównym, opcje graficzne ustawianie jasności czy dźwięku jest strasznie zbugowane. Mam nadzieje że jest to spowodowane wersją "remaster" i w oryginale takich błędów nie było.
    HISTORIA
    Szczerze spodziewałem się czegoś więcej. Okazuję się że najmocniejsza stroną Bioshocka jest klimat. Sama historia jest przekazywana głownie przez zapiski audio rozsiane po całej mapie. Są one zrealizowane dość dobrze ale często byłem rozpraszany przez walkę podczas słuchania. Sama historia też nie porywa. Jej głównym problem jest nierówne rozłożenie. Zabawa rozkręca się w ostatnich paru godzinach, wtedy można mówić o ciekawych plot twistach i ciekawych wydarzeniach, na początku jest to średniej klasy shooter z fajnym klimatem.

Lokacje wcale nie są aż tak intuicyjne, często trzeba się posiłkować mapą, która jest naprawdę beznadziejna, 10% czasu spędzonego w tej grze to studiowanie i przeglądanie mapy, co naprawdę przeszkadza w utrzymaniu optymalnego tempa gameplayu.    … Expand

I just finished the remastered version, and wow, I would still consider it a very unique experience even 11 years later. The environment. The atmosphere. The narrative. It's all phenomenal. The whole underwater city, and the 70's    The game holds up very well, even a decade later.

I just finished the remastered version, and wow, I would still consider it a very unique experience even 11 years later. The environment. The atmosphere. The narrative. It's all phenomenal. The whole underwater city, and the 70's theme fit together perfectly. The way the city was in ruins, and the underlying mystery as to why everything is in ruins, was all very gripping. I couldn't put the controller down. I wanted to know what came next. The dialogue and progression slowly uncovered more and more. And more and more I was drawn in. The plot is filled with twists and turns.

    The Little Sisters and Big Daddys concept is very interesting. The ADAM for your power up is right there, but they won't fight you unless you fight them. This element of freedom the game gave was great. I can't really think of any game that does it this way. Where a mini-boss is literally just lurking around the entire level. All the power ups were interesting as well.

    Though there are a few problems. Not being able to swap the positions of your power ups and weapons was super annoying. Having remembered what the hotkey for a certain item was for a long duration of the game, it completely threw me off when the positions was switched around, because of an event or I swapped a power up along the way. There is also a mouse sensitivity problem on the remastered version, if you play on PC. This was extremely annoying, and I've read others have experienced it too.    … Expand

    There are very few linear games that I enjoy, but Bioshock is one of them. Set in an atmospheric underwater dystopia, it features an excellent story and interesting characters whom we get to know through a combination of radio transmissions and prerecorded messages. Sound and level design are solid, and the writing and voice acting are some of the best I have heard. These strong elements are let down a little by Bioshock's short (9 hour) length, slightly clunky gunplay, and over-reliance on fetch quests and instances of 'your intended path is now blocked, find a way through' that act to pad the story rather than add value to it. Overall this is a quality game and an experience I would definitely recommend.… Expand

    A game with a wonderful world, the story of which, in my opinion, is masterfully entered into the narrative and is presented during the gameplay. But the shooting system is a bit weak.

    My favourite of the trilogy. Bioshock was quite a "shock" for me. I think this was the game that made me feel that videogames could be so much more than just entertainment.

    Bioshock has the one of the best atmosphere in the video games. The game is very beautiful and artistic and the story is very good. i very liked the storytelling mechanism. You have to collect the hidden journals if you want to know more about the background of the city. This is a story based fps with some extra abilities.

    BioShock has great gameplay & a brand new take on magic in the form of plasmids, injections that give you special powers. These special powers can do everything from electrocuting your enemies to sending out bees to distract them.    BioShock is a masterpiece and a monument in the FPS genre. It has an amazing and captivating story with one of the best plot twists in all of gaming history.

    BioShock has great gameplay & a brand new take on magic in the form of plasmids, injections that give you special powers. These special powers can do everything from electrocuting your enemies to sending out bees to distract them. They are powerful enough to the point where it's a good idea to use them the majority of the time, but they are just weak enough so that you still need to rely heavily on the combination of both plasmids and weaponry. The gameplay also consists of the collection of materials and ADAM, which can be used to create useful items or purchase useful quirks, respectively.

    The graphics of this game are very impressive considering when it was made, and the atmosphere is absolutely stunning. Rapture might very well be my favorite video game setting of all time. It takes an abandoned city and gives it a brand new steampunk-underwater vibe. I love it.

    Overall, this game is fun, captivating, tense, beautiful, and a defining game of the FPS genre.    … Expand

    The hours spent playing this masterpiece were the perfect encapsulation of why videogaming is such a favourite waste of time for so many of us. Thrilling, terrifying, moving, confusing, amusing, compelling, and very very dark. BioShock isn't simply the sign of gaming realising its true cinematic potential, but one where a game straddles so many entertainment art forms so expertly that it's the best demonstration yet how flexible this medium can be. It's no longer just another shooter wrapped up in a pretty game engine, but a story that exists and unfolds inside the most convincing and elaborate and artistic game world ever conceived.
