Bioshock Infinite is hands down the greatest campaign I have ever played. Beautiful graphics, the best combat I have ever experienced in an FPS, and characters that you really really care about.

-Lack of a quick save and the lack of manual save in non-1999 mode. All in all
-Bioshock Infinite is easily the best game I have ever played in my entire life so far. It deserves all the awards and praises it is getting at the moment. It lived up to its hype and one of the few AAA games that actually deserve a day one purchase. Well done to Ken Levine & Co at Irrational

Graphics: Stunning. Nothing more to say. 10/10

Story: Amazing, with a really shocking twist that I never saw coming, and great pacing, with a lengthy denouement that summed up everything really well. One or two plot holes that I noticed, and a couple of things that didn't quite add up for me, but I'm sure they were things that were explained in voxophones that I may have missed during my playthrough. The way they build up mystery is fantastic, and there is a lot of symbolism and deeper meaning that really added an extra dimension to the game. They don't treat you like a moron with the storyline, they don't spell it out for you, if you want to flesh it out you have to search for all the voxophones yourself and really pay attention to fully understand what's happening. 9.5/10

Other gameplay: The exploration was great. They don't give you too much money, which is good, because it means you pretty much have to choose between vigor upgrades or weapon upgrades. I found the lockpicking thing a bit arbitrary, by the end of the game I had about 30 lockpicks in my inventory which I never needed. But there is loads of extra detail for those who choose to explore and find it, I think a few more optional sidequests would have been good.
    9/10
Atmosphere: Fantastic, there is something definitely sinister about Columbia. The areas are really varied, there's Battleship Bay, all idyllic and peaceful, and then Comstock House, which is really creepy and actually quite scary in places, everything builds up to great atmosphere and immersion, especially with the great AI of Elizabeth and all the general public of Columbia. 10/10

Combat: Again, amazing, inventive and varied enemies, something that I didn't really like with the previous Bioshock games, the vigors are really well integrated and I found myself using pretty much all of them (except for undertow) and the vigor combos as well. There is a nice selection of guns, I was a little put out at first to find that you can't carry more than 2 but retrospectively, I think it's better that way. The sky lines are freaking amazing, and the sky line strike is one of the most satisfying things in a game, up there with the drop-down kill in Dishonored. Elizabeth is also a really neat addition to combat, giving you health, salts and ammo when you most need it.
    10/10

Soundtrack: Nothing spectacular, but it does its job.
    7/10

Overall: Amazing. Definitely recommend. If you enjoyed the 1st and 2nd Bioshock, you'll enjoy this. Don't be surprised when it gets nominated for and probably chosen as GOTY. Just.. Buy it.

Most importantly the story of this game is absolutely out of this world this game has the best story of any game released in recent history not to say it could easily trump most highly appraised games of old as well. So all in all if you are looking for a game with a lot of shooting and killing and such go back to playing COD kid this is a game for those of us who love a great narrative frankly I think this game could be the best game I have ever played, when it comes to story at least, and few games match the beautiful graphics that are jaw-dropping for even the most jaded players. I don't regret it one single bit. This game is by far one of the most outstanding games that has come out in the last decade. I don't believe in giving 10's. To me, a 10 shows that the game is perfect. And this game is perfect. The graphics, the setting, the story, the gameplay, everything feels amazing and plays amazing. Not to mention that, in my opinion, this game just set a new bar for FPS games to reach. It's new and innovative, and everything works so well together that it immerses you into its amazing world without letting you go. Elizabeth is a very lovable character, and for once, you don't have a companion who's a bullet sponger. She doesn't even take damage during combat, but you'll FEEL the need to protect her, or at least that's how I felt. If you're hesitant in this game, don't waste another second. Grab this game ASAP because it will completely blow you away. This game is worth the $60 price tag that I paid for alone, not to mention that I also got a copy of XCOM: Enemy Unknown and the first Bioshock, two games that are both amazing as well. My congratulations to Irrational games for creating an amazing masterpiece. I look forward to more great games such as this. Other developers? Take notes, because this is how you make a masterpiece. Never has a game world been crafted so magnificently, and so memorably; it's everything you expected and a whole lot more. While the setting of the game is in a fictive sky-city, it's historical roots are presented with great fidelity and you'll feel like you've gone back in time to 1912.

The production values are out of this world; for example, you'll find yourself wanting to stay on the menu screen for an unnaturally long time because it is so beautiful. This is more than a game, it is art living and breathing art that unfold luxuriously before your eyes which will water with awesome overload.

Graphics
I am in NO way an artist but I feel I must take a moment to mention how beautiful this game is… I have been playing on Max settings and between the lighting effects that must have taken years to get perfect and the original level design I challenge anyone to call this game ugly with a straight face.

    Story

The story itself is truly something to experience for yourself and it seems that you get out of it what you are willing to put in. Infinite IS NOT the kind of story fans of Halo and Call of Duty fans are use too. With Many layers of complexity and playing with difficult to comprehend subjects like String Theory and Quantum Mechanics player who are only use to using their minds for the most basic of reaction based skills will no doubt struggle to understand the plot to its fullest. But to those of you who are willing to try to understand what it is you’re actually seeing Infinite has some of the most jaw dropping mind blowing moments I have ever had the privilege to enjoy. I find it hard to communicate the significance and magnitude of this games story without using spoilers… so let me simply say that it is truly a triumphant of FPS games and the games industry in general

    Combat

Combat plays out much as it did in the first Bioshock were for the most part, you slaughter all those who stand in your way until reaching an slight larger, more powerful enemy were something that MIGHT just start to resemble tactics MIGHT be needed to successfully eliminate the threat. Even on 1999 mode I found that if I stuck with the sniper rifle and my trusty Hand Cannon I rarely had any need for “Plasmids” (Don’t even say it…. They are PLASMIDS! or anything else for that matter. This in no way removes that absolute joy of setting your flesh crazed Murder of Crows on fire with Devils Kiss while you watch your helpless pray get burned AND eaten alive, or sending your targets floating out of cover with Bucking Bronco before sending them falling to their deaths with a well-placed Rocket. Or my personal favorite, forcing some poor helpless grunt to draw the fire of his allies with Possession while you pick them off one by one at range with a sniper. Though combat may feel a bit tedious at times due to the rather low difficulty there is fun to be had by simply trying to get the best kill in the most creative way.

    Conclusion

During my 2 playthroughs, I have been more deeply entangled with the world of Colombia then almost any game I have yet to play, so much so that I had to set timers to remind me to do things like eat…. Or shower, or give the cat his pills…. Personally I would recommend playing on Hard or 1999 game modes due to the rather easy combat and disable the sprint button if you really want to get the most of this Fantastic Game of the Year winning title. When my biggest complaint is the Checkpoint saving system you know we have ourselves a good game….

The sound in the game was one of my favorite aspects. I don't know why Levine chose some of the songs that he did, but it made me EXTREMELY happy to hear one of them in particular. Elizabeth converses with you while you are walking from one point to another and it's NOT useless prattle, but actual conversation that progresses the story. I liked how the tapes (Virophones) pause if you engage in conversation or if something that was more important starts up, because the tapes in Bioshock did not do that.

Controls The first time I used the sky hook was scary!!!! But two seconds later I remember shouting to my roommates how awesome it was. It has a seamless combination with FPS combat as well, giving many combat scenarios much more meat to them.

The story has really set me to thinking. If there is one thing I can say, play the first Bioshock, please. You really get the full impact of the story if you play with first game before finishing Infinite. I want so badly to talk about the progression of Booker, and how mind blowing the end feels, but spoiler free review says you will have to play the game.

I had really high hopes for this game, and though it was a short game (I finished it with 100% completion in 9-ish hours) I feel it has more than met those expectations. It was everything I hold the Bioshock series to and more. 10/10

I never were so bewitched(and I'm a woman!) with a game companion like that since Half Life2. Damn, I deem Elizabeth as even higher than Alyx.
With such great, well thought plot comes also very dynamic, satysfying, maybe sometimes chaotic gameplay that shows that it is a true shooter. But this game is enhancing every part of it. I never really was into gameplay, but in this game it was very pleasurable experience. Elizabeth only makes it better. Believe me she makes the difference :)
Also, soundtrack is masterpiece. I especially love "Will the circle be unbroken" but there's a lot of music in game dynamic during fights, heating your blood, sometimes nostalgic when needed, and there's also Cindy Lauper ;)

This game had me skipping over corners in a rush follow the story, but when you did stop to look the whole world is flushed out completely. If the combat and the mechanics were crap (which they are not) the story would still command a 9 out of 10. Lately with some games it seems like you have to make allowances for play styles or over the top graphics, and while they are fun in their own way they don't reward the player. Playing this game is a reward, it is fun and exciting and interesting. Irrational Games has done something wonderful here. If you like good stories, and enjoy single player experiences, then you owe it to yourself to play this Bioshock. Part of me is sad because now the bar is set really high for the next game, but I can't wait to see what they manage to do. Expand

However, Bioshock Infinite easily makes any game before it seem primitive. This is not so much a game with a background, but a living story told by the characters and the player together. What drives you to complete the game is not the first person shooter aspect of it (although that too is truly unique and incredible) but the NEED to know what happens next in the story. The plot is nothing I would have ever expected in the most wonderful of ways and it made this possibly my most enjoyable gaming experience. The final moments of the game were incredibly emotional; joyful, confused, sadness, horror, and vindication. This game is unlike anything I have ever experienced before, and I urge everyone who wants to play (which should be EVERYONE) not to spoil ANY part of the plot. The way you learn it through the game is a work of art; much like the game which is a masterpiece. Expand

The graphics are stunning as while you walk down various parts of the game the sun glare and just various reflections make it to be a highly immersing world. The combat is very enjoyable, and enjoyable enough that after beating the game twice it still has a lot of entertainment value left in it. Possibly one of the greatest aspects of the game though is it's story, and the themes it touches on. The story mixed in throughout the world always leaves you wanting to know just a little bit more. The development of the story throughout though at a perfect pace where you don't feel bored or rushed through any part of the game. It all coming to a climax at the astounding ending, leaving you left to think deeply about the game, as well as drawing you back into it to play it again. Also Elizabeth, one of my most memorable characters to see in a video game, all credit to the Liz Squad at Irrational for making her feel real. This is an experience I haven't had in a video game in I can't remember how long and is probably going to hold the spot of one of the best video games I've ever played, if not the best. I think they are forgetting this game had to play on consoles that are by today's standards very dated, to keep such a large scale working on a console, said consoles that only have half a gig of ram, they needed to keep the graphics very close to the quality of the first Bioshock. It's easy to tell that these people are comparing it's graphics to games like, CoD or other FPS games where players are stuck on a map that is very small, and easier to run with higher graphics.

That being said the artistic direction of the game was extremely beautiful, and the story was amazing, this game gets a perfect score from me because it is not often that I finish a game and instantly want to play it again.

This game will make you stop and think about everything being said by every character, the story carries in a way that makes you question every single word being said to you, you look for patterns and keywords, anything for some kind of hint at the bigger picture and that is a level of immersion that is lost in stories for most games.

People say the world was stupid and they hated the main character, well clearly this game wasn't for you, with a world like never before seen, and a main character that is designed to be just as confused and lost as the player is story wise, it makes you relate to him even more.

He goes from wanting to repay his gambling debt, to simply wanting to get Elisabeth out of this nightmarish world, the game leads you along in such a way where all you want to do is keep playing to figure out who the hell you really are.

I also hear the main complaint people that loved the game have is the middle felt padded, and I disagree there too, until the game actually ended, I had no idea how close it even was to being done, and time I was turned around in a direction away from what seemed like the main plot, you find yourself learning more about the worlds messed up past.

I guess my only complaint is I found that outside of combat sometimes Elisabeth more or less vanished on me, but this was only a few rare cases.
I would have loved to see more interaction between the two in a game play sense.

I finished playing this game last night and I am completely perplexed with the ending and how great the game was. I am somebody who has never played the past Bioshock games, and after seeing so many people hyped for this game, I thought I might as well give it a go.

Playing the game of PC if you can is by far the best choice. This is one of the best visual games I have seen in a long time since Battlefield 3, and the textures and lighting effects on Ultra settings are beyond incredible. The whole setting of the game is magnificent, and I have yet to play any other game based in the beauty of the sky. The story itself was the best part (quite obviously) and the characters are gripping throughout. Elizabeth (the girl you are retrieving throughout the entire game) becomes someone you actually care about and want to help, and not just a dull AI character like many other games present. The combat system is great too, very comparable to Dishonored which I played a few days previously, and very easy to pick up for any noob.

By far the best aspect of the game is the storyline towards the end. Obviously I won't give away any spoilers, but just be warned that you will go through some major plot twists and the ending with leave you speechless. I actually had to read up on the internet afterwards just to fully understand what I had just seen!

The only negative aspect of the game is the length of the middle section of the story. This was also mentioned in IGN's review too, where the middle section of the game is very 'stretched' and seems to take way too long to complete. It's only towards the end where truth is revealed that the game gets really exhilarating. Lastly, the frame rate was also an issue with this game. 80% of the time I had perfect 60+ fps, but in a lot of locations for some reason the frame rate fell to 30, despite the area of the map being a small room which doesn't require a whole lot of processing. Many people also experienced this, and I believe they are working on a patch for it very soon.

Overall a must-play game. If you are reading this and haven't played it... PLEASE just buy it, you will not regret it at all.

The level design is the best I have seen in a LONG, LONG time. The maps are well put together and you have fun just running around and exploring the locations. I spent a lot of time just running around looking for barrels and coin for the sheer pleasure of it more than that of a chore like other games. Looking for the next voxaphone or the kinetiscope to see how it all came together the background was very fun for me. The art style is pleasing and the artists did a fantastic job at capturing and maintaining it's aesthetic. The NPC wardrobes while repetitious in some instances give the game that period feeling it's trying to create. The colours, while brighter than the original and it's sequel, give the game a cheerful feeling at the beginning and it gets darker as the story progresses at a balanced pace. It's not Crysis 3 but then again it never claimed, nor should it ever strive, to be. They nailed artistic coherence and atmosphere all around simply beautiful!

The combat is straightforward and limited. There is no real weapon variety aside from the skyline hook which is unique *as a weapon* as it is mostly a couple of weapons 5 or 6 if I'm not mistaken divided in 2 categories 2 pistols, 2 automatic rifles, etc. and only 8 vigors magic That said, it really doesn't matter because the combat is fast paced and fun at least in hard and 1999 difficulty, which were the only ones I played I never felt the combat lacking or boring at any time and you can upgrade your favorite flavor of weapon to make it more powerful, hold more ammo and so on. Vigors can be ugraded as well and I found myself upgrading a couple on my first playthrough then picking others for variety. So while it is limited in a sense, it never feels dull or lacking because of it.

The story is fantastic. I could see past the storyline in a handful of moments but it is well written and progresses well with the art style as the game goes deeper into it the art style gets progressively grittier and darker although never as dark or as gritty as the first 2 games, mind you. I was constantly looking for story items voxaphones and kinetiscopes just to see how it all tied together, I thought it was fantastic!

I could have given the game the 8 or 9 it deserves but I'm instead giving it a 10 to counteract the number of reviews I saw from people that blatantly did not play the game, because it deserves it. It is a fantastic game in a sea of utter crap that has been releasing for the past 4-5 years and I cannot recommend it enough.

It brings together so many aspects of gameplay and plot and blends them together into a perfect mix full of thrills, shocks, scares and overall enjoyment. This instalment in the series sees a new character (Booker DeWitt) arriving at the flying city of Columbia to rescue a girl (Elizabeth) who has the powers to open ‘tears’ in space and time. In addition to this amazing setting, Booker is helped with a variety of guns and special powers know as ‘Vigors’, whilst traversing zip line like ‘Skylines’ that bring new heights to battle. You don’t have to be a Bioshock fan to enjoy this game, its a new start that uses old aspects from the previous games, but also brings a whole new set of cards to the table. This game feels like a benchmark in gaming, everything about the game shines with perfection. Overall defiantly a 10/10, Read on for my look at what I feel is most important about gaming and how this game stacks up. Plot Many people are probably thinking that as this game is the third in the series, you would need to play the previous two games to know what is going on. That is not the case. Infinite is a completely new standalone game that brings a much needed revamp to the series overall. While playing the previous two games would give you an understanding of how to play the game, the story is brand new. The story takes place in the mysterious flying city of Columbia, a Utopian vision of 1912 America. The player assumes the role of Booker DeWitt, a mercenary who has been hired to rescue a super powered girl (Elizabeth) from the city in order to wipe away his debt. Throughout the game, you find out more and more about the city around you, these clues are left like breadcrumbs for the player to pick up upon and work out for themselves, something most games don’t do. Overall the story is a masterpiece that beats any campaign in any other game. By far 11/10. Gameplay This game plays just like the previous Bioshock games. Plasmids are now revamped into 'Vigors' that require 'Salt' to work instead of Eve, these can be used exactly the same as the first two games, except there is now a trap mode on each. The weapons have been upgraded and feel much more solid and mechanical, there is also a much wider range of weapons overall. Booker has a ferocious ‘Sky-Hook’ that can be used for melee attacks that will snap necks and behead opponents. There are however a few additions that many gamers will be familiar with. This game introduces features like an overshield, sprint and sights on most guns. All of these additions feel at home on this game, so no complaints there. 10/10. Setting The game takes place in an American Utopia that is flying in the sky. Everywhere you look is another gorgeous set piece that draws your eye. The city feels so alive, something that previous Bioshock’s have not had. Each character brings a new interaction or a new persona that makes them all unique. The city is buzzing with activity, it truly feels like a work of art that could actually happen. 10/10.

Characters This game is the first Bioshock to actually have characters that you can see and interact with. Booker has his own personality that clashes with Comstock (He’s the bad guy) and sees the kindness in Elizabeth’s heart. Liz’s AI is remarkable, she is completely unscripted and will do whatever she wants, whilst staying close to Booker and helping out as much as she can. She will open tears to bring through new objects into battle or scavenge for loot that could save your life. 10/10.

This game is one of those games; goddamn astonishing.
The story is brilliant: unlike any other Video Game story that exists at this point in time; just like the original Bioshock, you can expect a HUGE twist coming your way to blindside you senseless, with subtle hints implemented as the story progresses. However, unlike it's predecessor, the combat is bloody enjoyable at times; the inclusion of the Skyway(I think that's what it's called) mechanic keeps combat's pace fast and sometimes panicky, especially if a Handyman is coming your way, allowing you to reposition, survey the battlefield and take out your enemies as you zoom past them. But, the weapons themselves don't feel all that great, save for the shotgun and (arguably) the sniper rifle, everything else feels unsatisfying to fire.

Also the difficulty takes a nosedive towards the end; when you have a full arsenal of vigors, and fully upgraded guns, few enemies can even stand up to you as an actual threat; personally, I have found that using the Shock Jockey vigor to stun enemies, then shooting them with a shotgun worked as an instakill towards the standard, non-Heavy Hitter enemies, which is why the game just introduces more and more enemies to balance gameplay towards the later stages.

But all the nitpicks in the world couldn't reduce the quality of this game and it's story; it is an absolute must-buy as you will never experience a game such as this ever again.

I liked this game alot. This has the feel of previous Bioshock but in a completely different setting. Waiting eagerly for the next Bioshock. The graphics of the game were unbelievable. I would like to see this game again further on with a better graphics card. This game supports playing with three monitors. On the older Bioshocks you had to use a hotkey to adjust the fov so that it looked good.

This game flawlessly uses contrasting moments of interactive narrative and explosively intense gunplay unlike any game before it. Zipping around the Skylines was surprisingly intuitive and intensely satisfying, while the vigors (akin to magic) and encounter design keep battles fresh and exhilerating even on a third
playthrough. Unlike most modern shooters, Infinite rewards the player on an intellectual level both in combat and narrative, touching on subjects such as the idea of American Exceptionalism, Racism and String Theory. There's not really a lot more that can be said about such a narrative-driven experience without ruining it, and it's definitely an experience you don't want ruined.

Just two pieces of advice; play on PC if you have a good system, and wait through the credits ay the end of Coutnee and Troy's "Will the Circle be Unbroken."

You can only load your most recent checkpoint, and there's no clear indication of when that was. You can't quicksave or quickload, and you can't save previous saves. This prevents you from going back to re-do an area differently or to make a different decision without outright playing the game again. Because of this, I'd give it a 9.5/10 if I could, but Metacritic only allows whole numbers, so I rounded it up to a 10. All in all, an amazing experience. Expand

The plot ism complex, the character's emotions and acting are something you would see in a Award-Winning movie, and the art is simply astonishing. This is one of the few games that really get you thinking...that being said, this game will have a long lifespan and will be talked about for ages to come. The A.I are absolutely brilliant! Elizabeth didn't frustrate me at all during the game, she helped me when I was just about dead or needed some salts. This game will have some controversy because it touches on subjects that no game has ever before bu that's good! This game is fresh and unique and all I can say is, THIS IS the first next-gen game. Sure there is some driver problems but that's the graphic card manufactures faults and they will release patches in the coming days. If you're reading this review all I can tell you to do is to stop whatever it is you may be doing and PURCHASE this game, Irrational deserves it. And this game crushed any competition in my mind for any game I have ever previously played. Even though the gameplay is fairly linear, it is the story and the way the characters interact and develop that amazed me. I came to absolutely love both Booker and Elizabeth by the end and the development of their origins is astounding. My jaw was dropped for about a good 80% of the storyline-rich segments, and the rest of the time I was in and out of the amazing combat. The fluidity of combat in this game is some of the best I have ever experienced. For example the way you are able to shock a group of enemies, summon crows to attack them, then jump onto a skyline to just jump down onto an enemy, killing him, and assassinating his buddy by snapping his neck with your skyhook. Some of the most creative combat system I have ever seen. I would mention about the graphics, however I don't think I would be able to give a fair representation of how amazing this game really looks since my computer can only handle this game at low-medium settings, but even at that level the looks of the game are astounding.

Just the environment in the game has you hooked in so emotionally, even in the beginning when you first come to Columbia, that looking around you truly feel as if you are in the year 1912. With american flags and banners everywhere has me feeling constantly patriotic, yet with the institution of slavery still rampant in Columbia, it hit me right in the feels when you see a slave scrubbing a boardwalk as other nearby npc's are mocking them and talking down to them. One of the most emotional scenes I saw that wasn't even really a part of the story line **and I don't want to spoil anything for anyone so I'll skip when this happens** but you see a black woman who I thought I previously saw in shackles, sitting and holding her hands as if she was praying, and seeing a song about being free, it kind of sounded like amazing grace.

And that leads me into the sound is this game. If I had to rate the sound design on Bioshock Infinite on a scale of 1-10, I give it a 12. The music, the character voices, the gunshots, everything sounds so clear and perfect it pulls me in just as much as any of the visuals that accompany the sounds.

But I want to get back into the story. One thing I absolutely love about this game, which was also the case with the original Bioshock, is how you have to think about the storyline, about what's going on. Towards the end, when you finally unfold the truths of Booker and Elizabeth, as well as others, I have no better words than my mind was absolutely blown away. The depth to the storyline is so intense it had me thinking over and over again what has happened, as well as had me guessing as to what was to come. Yet, EVERY SINGLE TIME, I was amazed at what was revealed and how, whether I guessed right or not. The twists and turns and just the way this game f*cks with you mind is why I took the time to create this metacritic account 5 minutes after completing the game just to share how absolutely amazing this work of art is.

Irrational Games and Ken Levine, I need to say thank you for my new absolute favorite game. I was blown away by Bioshock, and never thought a game could top it, let alone by the same developers, yet you did it by expanding on it. This game is truly a work of art and a masterpiece and will forever go down in history, alongside the original Bioshock, as some of the greatest storylines ever written. It would take something magical, like Half Life 3 being announced and released this year to tear this game out of its position in my heart for game of the year. And now, if you'll excuse me, it's time to replay it in 1999 mode.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played this game on 360. While i wanted to buy it for the PC, certain limitations in my life on the day of this game's release prevented me from doing so. Also i was spurred to write this review (and finally make a metacritic account) due to a certain JOKE of a review from a panzerbadger and the many other FAKE reviews for this game on Metacritic that were only made to drop a game's user review score by a fake account. Which is ridiculous (as anyone with a brain stem or any account of maturity would likely agree) and extremely childish. In panzerbadger's review he states that to rate this game highly (id assume between an 8 and 10) you'd either have to be paid or be a stupid teenager. The main problem with that argument is that its subjective and just plain stupid. Also for someone who makes a fake account, writes one review and criticizes others for they're opinions just goes to prove who the immature a$$hole is in the conversation. Just saying... That being said i'm now moving on to review the excellence that is Bioshock Infinite! (POSSIBLE SPOILERS ALERT!!!) Let me say that for all of my life Irrational Games has yet to let me down when it comes to a big release. Bioshock Infinite hits every right note in singing the beautiful melody that is, to me, the swan song of a dying generation of consoles. For 360, PS3 and PC owners this is a sure buy and will obviously go down as one of the best games that this generation has seen. Right up there with the original Bioshock from 2007. The combat in this game takes place either in semi closed quarters or fairly open levels. It isn't exactly free roaming like i expected it to be. While this was a slight disappointment i was pleased with the amount of layers the game gives you with combat. In a normal sequence i could set up traps and lay ambushes while calling in some assistance from another reality with Elizabeth's time tears. In another i could be swinging from skyline to skyline while sniping baddies off their flying ship, or calling in for added cover from a time tear to peak and shoot from and to keep my from looking like swiss cheese. The combat in this game is visceral and satisfying! I have some gripes to go with it however. There is a 2 gun carry mechanic, much like Halo, which i do not like over BioShock's original gun wheel and the game seems to make dying even harder than the original. Dying has hardly any consequence and so while the combat is satisfying there is a distinct lack of challenge. The amount of vigors in the game is far less than the original's plasmids and the gun and vigor (aka Plasmid) customization is watered down slightly. It isn't a big gripe for me but still is worth mentioning. To make up for this they did add in a more open Gear mechanic which allows you to equip 4 pieces of clothing which boost your character's skills and add all kinds of different effects. Its very much like the Gene Tonics of the original but with a little more depth. Another small gripe is the removal of hacking however you can still turn turrets and mechanical enemies in your favor with the use of a certain vigor so in a way its not completely gone. The health and Salt (aka EVE) mechanics are different this time and don't change anything for the worse but don't really improve either. All in all, in a lot of ways, Irrational stuck to they're guns when it came to combat mechanics and that isn't a bad thing when you're building off an already amazing foundation. Visually this game does not disappoint! Infinite doesn't look very crisp on the console but it still has an amazing visual breadth to it thanks to the astounding backdrop it is set against. The wow inducing flying city that is Columbia is one of the most interesting and beautiful settings i've ever seen in a video game and is fleshed out so vividly by Irrational that I truly felt like this game took place in a real time and place. The detail and color in the city makes it pop and comes alive right before your eyes and there are so many fascinating things that you learn from the Voxophones and short films you watch throughout the game. These are the new collectibles in the game and take excellent mantle of the 1st game's collectibles. The voice work and story are stellar and absolutely do not disappoint. The story is fleshed out through bosses and conversations throughout the game and truly bring life to Columbia as you tear through civil war torn streets and floating buildings. I wish i could say more and go into more detail but metacritic won't allow it :P While i never thought it would be so Irrational really has outdone themselves AGAIN in crafting an amazing video game experience from which so many developers should and probably will build on. Infinite is exactly the kind of final hurrah for this generation that i have come to expect from such a great generation and even the hardest of the die hard BioShock fans will find much love and fun in BioShock Infinite! 10 out of freaking 10 Expand

Theres a ton to say about this game so youll have to forgive me in case i accidently overlook somehting. The game is so fine detailed, everything that has been placed in the world has a purpose. I will attempt to, with all the knowledge that i possess as a video game developer, break down the game and explain all aspects of it, reviewing the gameplay, sound assets and graphical assets. To start, the gameplay in this game is absolutely breathtaking. The very first portion of the game which was only introducing the world that is Columbia was absolutely astonishing. I was smiling throughout the entire performance that the developers had directed. The fun and games grew short as the very first moral decision practically got thrown on the table like a dead horse at a fancy dinner party. This single act revealed the very mature tones and difficult decision making in a mere moments. Once that ended the combat began. The combat is highly innovative involving gameplay that one could only dream of. Combat is intense as the game will always offer a high challenge with intelligent enemy ai, consistent insertion of diverse enemies to force you to change strategies and many fun and varying ways to kill your opponents. Regarding the two weapon carrying capacity, i truly enjoy it. It forces players to search and acquire the best weapons for the job often times creating tense situations especially when the player is low on ammo. A huge part of the combat in this game is definitely intertwined with Elizabeth. Elizabeth is far from a hinderance giving the player support with health and items. Her ability to procure items for you in the field and middle of combat has more than proven effective for me and often times rescued me from certain death. Elizabeth is a fantastic support character and i would not give her up for anything else. Another point with the combat in this game is the lack of the ability to carry medpacks or salts to recover abilities and health. This change in combat actually offers quite a bit of challenge in the game and does boost the importance of Elizabeth, although she never really needs that because she herself is an amazing character. The skyline is another amazing innovation that was created for this game combining intense speed and power combat situations which only prove to intensify already very tense combat situations. The combat is fun and highly interactive forcing players to strategize the most effective manner in which to complete the situation at hand. The music that flourishes in and out of combat to more somber or quite or even joyful moments is absolutely incredible.

The story in this game is absolutely stunning and incredibly daring involving such dangerous themes as religion, government powers, lack of seperation of church and state, racism, racial purity moral decisions and far more to list. The storyline is very well fleshed out and meshes perfectly with other aspects of the game. I shouldnt reveal much of the storyline as it requires one to see and experience for themselves but i must insist that you take your time and keep an open mind when approaching the storyline as it can become quite dark. The graphics are absolutely beautiful and the animations are breathtaking. The twenties and steampunk themes are heavy in this game and executed absolutely phenomenally. The animations make for relatable encounters with other npcs in the game most specifically Elizabeth. The saturation of the world is absolutely wonderful and the models are completely smooth and wonderful. I truly love the artistic direction that the artists took with this game. I give this game a solid 10/10 .Bioshock infinite is an absolute marvel and pinnacle astonishment of what videogames are meant to be. If you have not purchased this game as of yet i would highly reccommend purchasing it especially at full price. Missing this game is a terrible mistake and playing it is the best way to truly understand the perfection that is bioshock infinite.

    Final score 10/10

This game is perfection on a disk. Bioshock Infinite has to be Game Of The Year without a doubt. With some of the best graphics and also a very deep and invoking storyline which will draw you in and leave you playing for hours on end. This game is a must have. For a price of $49.99 this game is superb and it is worth every single penny. I myself would happily pay $70 for this game. If youThis game is perfection on a disk. Then comes the mind warping ending which makes you questing the more "simple" progression in the beginning and find subtle clues that were left throughout. Loved how they brought both the quantum paradox and divergent universe theories together to tell the story. Can easily go over your head and can take time to settle. Graphics are not as great as the developers hyped them to be for PC. They use a lot of lighting trickery. Models and textures are what I would call average. But, the art style is beautiful. Amazing how they can create contrasting worlds in the same game. Animations are also very smooth and mostly organic. These are why I can let the other things slide.

Gameplay is also average similar to other shooters but with magic on the side (Almost identical to the other Bioshock games). There is the added dimension of the skylines which are really fun and super easy to navigate not becoming an unnecessarily complicated mechanic to lengthen the game, but to help speed things up a bit and also give you a wonderful view of this magnificent world. The game is certainly a lot easier than the original games. It was a breeze all the way, although the end became a bit tricky. There was little need for ammo/magic conservation or tactical cover. Ammo is quite plentiful and your health somewhat regenerates (not like the first game). This is not a bad thing this time round, as it was still super fun and kept you focused on the awesome story. There is 1999 mode which should increase difficulty after you complete your first playthrough.

My only gripe with the game is the save system. There are no multiple save slots, nor can you truly load your game from different points from where you progressed. I am personally okay with not being able to make manual saves, as this would make the game far too easy and remove the "game" or the fun in the challenge.

None of the small problems remove from what makes this game great. Certainly one of the greatest games of all time. Definitely one with possibly the greatest story that even rivals A-grade films like Inception.

Well, everything that makes a game a game is beyond ridiculously super uber amazing in BioShock Infinite. The art style (the way people look; faces, etc) is nothing short of genius. It is a little repetitive, such as the random people you see looking the same (As far as I have seen, I think there is only one female head mesh apart from Elizabeth's) but beyond the first ten minutes of the game, you won't notice it at all. The audio department is also top notch. There is a resemblance to the prior BioShock's, with a wondrous and distinctive difference that fit's Columbia very well. The way the game play's, as with the first BioShock, is barely linear at all, allowing for 101 different routes to deal with the game's deviously clever obstacles. The use and design of the sky-rail highlights this, allowing you to find new places, weapons and ways to beat enemies with a twist. The slow but steady introduction of different guns and vigors also allows for a large differentiation in the way that you do things through the game, compared to what you may have done at the start. Upgrading health and tools is now far easier and less frustrating, as there are far more than 5 different opportunities to do so (Yeah, I'm looking at you, #1). The AI (The way the friends and enemies move about the level, where they take cover etc) is a groundbreaking advance in this area. Elizabeth's interaction with the environment is incredibly accurate, making observation's, taking cover and throwing you (literally) ammo just when you need it. She is simply delightful to have around. But the thing that I must stress is how astounding the story is. It is an example of simply awesome storytelling, equal to great's such as the Uncharted series. Columbia and your time there is a triumph of inspiring, imaginative minds. There are plot twists which are genuinely surprising, keeping the game lively as you play. It has been the only story line which I have been interested in in a very long time. BioShock Infinite is a refreshingly new, inspiring addition to the premium world of your game pile (Or steam list). I don't care what else comes out this year, it's my game of the year (And I'm literally oogling GTA 5). Just... get it. Now. Go on, now. Yes, now. JUST GET IT :D Expand

When I first heard about bioshock infinite, I told myself to that it was just another money making plan ``a la EA``. I was dead wrong; after seeing so many good review I decided to buy it and its been one of the best gaming experience I've got so far since dark souls. Bioshock franchise alway had a different atmosphere graphically, its maybe not a benchmark game but in its way has a majestic world. I don't get why so many people complain its not a crysis caliber graphics, it's not meant to be that kind of game. All this game beauty is contained in its truly jaw dropping scenario. You will be quite lost at first, trust me, but this is by far one of the most MIND BLOWING story I've ever come to play. As a fan QM theory I'm quite stocked they have come with a concept that complex and still nailled it pretty well. The Ai and control aren't revolutionnary but hey name a game that really delivered those thing?

well I note that game a big 10 because; although the actual gameplay is not actually revolutionnary but still really enjoyable, the scenario of this game is so solid, I wish more game dev actually understood the importance of immersion into a story that profound is the real experience to gamers. two word: MIND BLOWING!

This game, like the original Bioshock before it, is a work of art. The city you explore, the philosophies and characters you meet all stay with you long after you actually finish the game.

Although the graphics are great I'd play this as a text-based game just to play the story. This story is amazing, competing with Mass Effect on a higher level then one can imagine. The lore is great, the science is accurate (relatively) and the characters are incredible. There are not enough words in the English language to describe how good this game is so I'll stop right here!

Just because I have to write something negative about the game; the combat is, as with any single-player story-based game, not so good. It's better than most games in it's league but not great. Satisfactory but not the reason to play this game.

Play BSI slowly, relish the moments and don’t rush to the end. It’s certain that you will have lived one of the richest gaming experiences that, as far as narration, lyricism and story are concerned, will take a lot of time to forget! [May 2013]

A very solid, but not revolutionary shooter in an amazing setting, with a story that struggles to convey its authors’ ambitions and is only seemingly complex. The vision is less focused than in previous Bioshocks and it does a worse job on binding the plot with gameplay. [CD-Action 05/2013, p.46]

Problematic plotting and excessive amounts of poorly balanced combat apply friction to what is otherwise one hell of a rollercoaster. [May 2013, p.80]
