Get Beyond Galaxyland is a whole smorgasbord of nostalgic ideas that somehow doesn’t end up being a mess. It’s visually ambitious, taking a pixel art aesthetic and giving it cinematic scope without losing the essence of the idea.

Beyond Galaxyland surprises you from start to finish, it is brilliant and full of well-blended ideas. The audiovisual section does its job incredibly well, rarely have I felt so often the desire to stop to take a screenshot or listen to the OST of a game. The various souls - JRPG, platform, puzzle, creature collection, crafting, progression system - are not particularly deep individually, but put together they manage, as if by magic, to give life to an immersive, convincing experience, with delicate but successful balances. It soon becomes difficult to detach yourself also because, one planet at a time, you end up becoming fond of the characters, getting in tune with Doug and making his air of a fish out of water catapulted into worlds that do not belong to him your own. If there really is life in the universe, let's hope it is as EnrightBeats imagines it.

Beyond Galaxyland shouldn't be missed, with exciting turn-based combat, a world ripe for exploration, and beautifully written characters.

There’s a lot to like about Beyond Galaxyland, from its 80’s-vibe story full of vibrant characters to its enjoyable turn-based combat. It manages to pull together a number of different mechanics into a level of coherence (though some work better than others) in a package that impresses with visual flair and an identity wholly its own. This is the kind of sci-fi I love, the fish out of water tale where the impossible becomes possible and the characters all manage to feel unique to each other amongst a sea of weird designs. Come for the action, stay for the Boom Boom.

Beyond Galaxyland is still among the games that are entertaining and have some charm and mystery which will make players stay. Fans of sci-fi adventures who have an affinity for indie titles should absolutely check out this title. The mixture of an interesting plot, character relations, and a beautifully designed universe makes it a game that is worth exploring even if some portions of the game could use some refinement.

Some minor issues aside, Beyond Galaxyland is easily one of 2024’s best surprises. I confess this is one game that wasn’t on my radar until I started playing it, but if you have any passion whatsoever for classic science fiction literature, games, and movies, I can guarantee you’ll have an absolute blast with this one.

It’s the style and feel of Beyond Galaxyland that kept me interested to the end of Doug’s journey. Though many of the supporting systems are pretty familiar and some are in real need of reconsideration, the thematic narrative has enough mystery to engage. Exploring the intricate graphical detail of the world, and its original worldbuilding, is fun for most of the runtime, and the efficient combat doesn’t bog this down. If a key element of the genre is exploring new worlds, then Beyond Galaxyland puts its best foot forward. It’s just a bit wobbly in how it gets there. Prepare to give it some slack on the journey, and you’ll have a decent time.

Drawing on decades of inspiration, Beyond Galaxyland is a heartfelt love-letter to the JRPG genre. Although the game can't quite escape its predecessors' long shadow, it shines more brightly than many of its peers. The synthesis of gameplay elements from Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy to Paper Mario and Pokémon makes this a must-play for genre enthusiasts, and worthy of consideration by other gamers. Increased difficulty in New Game Plus adds to Beyond Galaxyland's replayability, while an interesting story helps it stand out from among other JRPGs.

Despite a disappointing ending and some irritations with the dialogue and combat, Beyond Galaxyland is an RPG that will remind you of the heady days of your first Final Fantasy, mixed with a Pokémon blend.

Beyond Galaxyland is a welcome addition to the RPG cosmos. Its audiovisual mixture is both distinctive and effective, while the gameplay and narrative keeps everything moving along nicely. The combat may get a bit rote towards the end, and there are some frustratingly unanswered story questions when all is said and done, but there’s no denying it’s a positive experience all the way through. It’s a game that’s easy to recommend in general, but for those whom a speedily-paced RPG that offers enjoyable exploration, some engaging sci-fi mystery, and a solid turn-based system sounds appealling, Beyond Galaxyland should be right up their alley.

Beyond Galaxyland shows a lot of potential and has a very good battle system in it. Unfortunately, it is let down by bugs, some poor platforming, and racing. The bugs can be addressed in patches, but a bit more focus and refinement would have helped elevate this experience.
