Battletoads is a stunning return for both the toads and Rare, a team that hasn't had much output recently. While it can become a little tedious to play alone, this is an excellent game to try with a small group of friends on a Friday night. Humour, variety of gameplay, and local co-op make this a great addition to anyone's library.

Battletoads is fun to play but far from perfect.

The greatest success of Battletoads is to have understood what it means to revive a franchise like this, which dates back so long: each of the elements were reviewed, polished and recreated with a lot of heart, encouraging new and unknown ideas, always faithful to the original game.

If the developers had focused more on the beat'em-up sections, we would have had in our hands one of the best exponents of the genre of modern times. As it stands, however, it is just a compilation of well-made half games.

Despite its mistakes, I enjoyed both of my games from start to finish. If you have Game Pass, you need to give it a try, whether on Xbox One or PC, you won't regret it.

Battletoads revives what was thought to be a long-dead franchise without missing a step. The game benefits from modernized game mechanics but maintains the overall gameplay feel of the original titles. If you have fond memories of the earlier titles, it’s a no brainer that this is a title worth playing. The game does rely on nostalgia, but this is one of the better reboots around. Battletoads succeeds at making a game look and feel modern while maintaining the essence of what made it good so many years ago. Battletoads does offer a variety of different modes in addition to primarily being a beat ’em up title. It’s a truly ridiculous game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it’s good to see that after such a long break the ‘Toads are still on top of their game.

The new Battletoads is almost as beefy as its musclebound heroes, serving up a substantial 5-to-7-hour campaign as well as additional collectibles and high-score challenges. Not bad for $20. Battletoads 2020 probably won’t be quite as durable as the NES original, but you may find yourself hopping back into the game more often than you expect.

Dlala delivers a rollercoaster ride of chaos, adventure and challenge that lives up to the Battletoads name.

Deeply reprehensible in all ways. Obviously unfinished and padded with abysmal, mobile-tier minigames. The third time the worst space shooterDeeply reprehensible in all ways. Obviously unfinished and padded with abysmal, mobile-tier minigames. The third time the worst space shooter in history is inflicted upon you, you will wonder why this game was not simply cancelled. This trash parasitizes on a famous name. All aspects are bad, this cheap crap made just to fill Game Pass.

TLDR - Toad-al not worth it

I'm a fan of the originals, let's slay that bugbear first. That being said, the first level left me with a lot of hope, I couldn't help but laugh at the second level. However this game is just not that good between weak story points, the characterisation of the the Toads and the Dark Queen and repetitive, boring gameplay; this game just doesn't hold water.

    *Story and characters*
It's pretty obvious to me that this was written with the original battletoads in mind but the level of care is all wrong, also for my personal nitpicks, the joke are very hit and miss for me, either funny or eye rolling bad, also I'm not a fan of the art style but these are personal and aren't affecting the overall score.

    *Gameplay*
At first this isn't too bad after you play it for about an hour though, the gameplay is boring, each toad has about 12 moves total, even though you can freely swap between them, it doesn't help and if you do play co-op you have to share control of the toads. The Turbo cycle controls to me felt a bit off, I have a feel that the hit boxes were off, not that it made the stage much harder. Enemies seem to be designed to be as annoying as possible, not hard, just annoying enough to break your combo and ruin the ability to get the last collectable which involves beating every fight with at least a A rank. Also for what gameplay is offered is too little for each stage, so they drag like crazy.

    *Sound*
Pretty solid, music is great and the voice acting is compently done, its the writing that drags it down. Another personal nitpick, I didn't like the voice they gave to Zitz (Not the VA just the direction)

Finally lets address the elephant in the room, the change of the Dark Queen, many will say that people are tanking this game over the art style, etc. The Dark Queen to me, is definetly a downgrade but certainly wouldn't be a reason that I'd give this game a low score. It's something I could have moved past but the game just isn't good, also DMCing orginal fan's wasn't a smart move, basically they rub the Dark Queens new look in nay-sayers faces except it comes across as a dig against everyone who enjoyed the orginal.
