The negative reviews are due to its initial low performance. Atm if you get a decent enough computer it will perform perfectly, a couple of glitches aside. That being said, the game itself is underwhelming, but worth the money.

There are a few glaring bugs still present in the game which is why I scored it as a 7 where it could have been higher. One of my personal pet peeves is when my control over my character is taken away or diminished, something this game does often. I could overlook it if not for the many unskippable cut-scenes and activities where I'm stripped of all my control and gadgets save one for some specific action that must be taken. It's this mechanic that has caused one of the more troublesome glitches where you become stuck because the game has again limited your ability to control Batman but hasn't provided the object you are supposed to interact with, thus leaving you stuck forever with no choice but to start over or quit. Despite these flaws the game is still enjoyable and I'd say if you're a fan of the series the game is very much worth picking up, though I'd look for it on sale as it's not worth full price in it's current somewhat buggy state. If not for the bugs I'd give it an 8 or 9. If not for all the times in game where I lose control of my avatar for nothing more than a cut-scene or one of the several times I'm forced to stand around and watch scenes play out while I'm restricted to doing nothing but watching (with no way to skip ahead) I would score it higher still. The developers were standing on tall shoulders, faced a bit with the dilemma that Oasis must have had, after banging out two great first albums. So what we have here, then, is Arkham Knight - a new villain, a bigger city, more gadgets and, of course, the batmobile. On paper it sounds great, and for much of the time, I found myself having a lot of fun. The only trouble is that not so long ago I had played Arkham Origins ... so despite all my best efforts at once again being able to play my favourite comic book character in a beautiful-looking and technically marvellous game, I actually found myself suffering from Batfatigue. I couldn't help thinking that I was playing a game I had played before, a million times. Initially I loved the Batmobile, but after a few tank encounters, it became a chore. Didn't play the game til it was patched, and can confirm I had zero technical issues playing at 4k. Definitely would recommend this to a mad fan, or someone who hasn't played Arkham City. Expand

I really enjoy how they integrated the batmobile and it feels really seamless switching between game modes.

That being said, I'm only giving it a 7 because there are some major flaws with the PC port, mostly related to the absolutely abysmal control scheme. Controls can be modified, but unfortunately they grouped certain actions together so that changing one really awkward control changes a whole host of other ones. For example, MOUSE3 continues to be the button used for cape stun, but now they've attached whichever cape stun button you use to "cancel grapple" or "drop down", when for all the other games in the series it was left ctrl. That means the only way to set the controls to the same as previous games, you need to make ctrl your cape stun. Entering grates is no longer space+ctrl, but is now space+MOUSE3. It's very frustrating when you're used to playing with one set of controls and they randomly change it on you for absolutely no reason. Another good example of terrible control schemes is making "Enter" the exit challenge button, and "Esc" the retry challenge button, rather than the other way around.

Game is great, but they could have taken one extra day to not **** up the control scheme.

I would have rated it an 8 but not until they are able to optimize it enough to remove the 30 fps lock.

The game itself is fine, it has everything you'd expect from an Arkham game. Everything from the previous games has been refined, but sadly the game doesn't really invent in any interesting ways. The only really new thing is the batmobile, and it is fun to drive in small doses, but it's definitely overused. There are lots of boring drone fights and there are even car race tracks made by Riddler that make no sense whatsoever.
The story is alright, but quite predictable. The character Arkham Knight is more annoying than anything else and his identity becomes clear far before it's actually revealed. In the end, he doesn't really even contribute anything to the main story overall, he just kinda hangs around and wants to kill Batman (like every other Batman villain ever).

It's nice that the game is finally in a good enough condition to play at least mostly properly. The game doesn't surprise and it definitely doesn't like feel like a grand finale to the Arkham series. It's good, even great sometimes, just not great enough.

The port was horribly done with alot of graphics options taking away and not being that great in general.

The story itself is a good story but if you have followed the batman comic franchise then you wil know right away who the arkham knight is and sadly that will bring the anticipation right down but it’s still awesome to see at the same time the voice acting as well is great with Kevin Conroy coming back to play the voice of batman.

Gameplay is the exact as past arkahm games have been so thankfully that’s a good thing to see
Overall the game is great for story and for batman fans in general but I would hold off buying the pc version until the fix it or buy it on the consoles but hopefully they will have these problems fixed

The dual take downs and working with other characters (mainly cat woman) is nice edition to the gameplay.
Now this game has issues and rather big ones .. first NO BOSS BATTLE!! ........are you kidding me ! a weak antagonist and of course the ARKHAM KNIGHT was himself a disappointment. And the hell with all those tank and drones battle ... very UNBATMAN thing to do .. blowing up drones ... what!!! and they are just around every corner.
All in all this game misses the essence of being a Arkham game .. but it can be played due to some good gameplay.

Arkham Knight adds the Batmobile; a really fun way to get around the world which introduces a new way of combat and puzzle solving. Overall I did enjoy what the Batmobile added to the game, although one gripe I did have with the Batmobile was how finnicky the controls could be at times.

However, Arkham Knight feels like one step forward, two or three steps backward, as it seems that Rocksteady sacrificed some of the best parts of the previous two games for the Batmobile. Gone are the boss fights and environmental puzzles using Batman's utility belt tools are almost completely gone to be replaced by Batmobile puzzles. While the Batmobile puzzles will tickle the brain, they are never difficult enough to illicit an Eureka moment, something which the previous games constantly succeed in achieving. It is a shame that I could count the number of times I had to use tools like the line launcher in the entire game on one hand.

Story-wise, Arkham Knight succeeds at tying a nice bow on the trilogy. The main villain, the Arkham Knight is downright intimidating right from his first appearance and provides a first in the series, an equal to batman's tactical acumen and fighting prowess. On the other hand, Scarecrow is a perfect foil to the Arkham Knight's brawn as the game's secondary antagonist. While the Arkham Knight comes off as rash and even perhaps, angsty, Scarecrow exudes cunning and control. It is a testament to how well-written Scarecrow is that he is able to illicit fear in the main characters and the audience in every single scene he is in. Overall, I loved how well the Arkham Knight's story was fleshed out and Batman's story was closed.

Despite my criticisms about the lack of boss fights and the over-emphasis on the Batmobile, Arkham Knight is a fun game, albeit a deeply flawed one. I would still highly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the previous two games. For everyone else, well, it does make you feel like batman.

the combat and exploration gameplay is pretty much the same as previous games, with the exception of the batmobile, which I didn't think it was a groundbreaking addition, but I was wrong, both figuratively and literally. maybe too many riddle puzzles easter eggs if you ask me.

and finally, the DLC stories. they are great. they could release future Arkham sequels and prequels in this style, with many smaller mission maps, some being linear and others being small sandboxes, allowing for different styles of exploration and fighting. the first two or three stories are short, but all of them are worth playing.

I found the Azrael missions unrealistic, even batman can't do what he asks az to do in the challenges, never get touched against 12 enemies? skipped that garbage. If it's on easy at least scale it to that retards. The firefly missions are ok but with the forced batmobile chases it's also a frustrating slog, the batmobile handles terribly and the game gets super laggy while driving around at high speed making it even more frustrating. Also switch to toggle mode for the batmobile battle mode to not kill your trigger finger if you're on a controller. Story is ok if very predictable at a certain point, the Joker is well done but the premise is so annoying, yes you will have losses fighting evil but does that mean it's bad to fight evil? Real people would understand instead of beating on the good guy, hopefully but there are a lot of idiots in the world. Batman is a masonic tool, just like all this superhero stuff is just masonic doctrine disguised, satan disguised as lucifer. Masons themselves are just a disguised tool of the international gangsters I can't name explicitly because of their ownership of most things in this world.

--Graphically beautiful but very dark and muddy brown looking, could be better. Rain effects probably help this to be still a hard game to achieve 60 fps consistently. Have to really tweak the settings if you are not on the last generation or so of gpu/cpu.

--Too much going on on the streets, it's so annoying and overwhelming.

---LET ME TURN OFF THE OBNOXIOUS BANTER on the streets you're forced to listen to, really needed audio options broken up, this is the same for all the open world arkham games.

--DLC levels are mostly one level of brawling, not much substance. Even the Family DLC is not much but is the best one of the separate ones. The in game DLC with the other major super villains is worth it.

--I recommend it if you have the patience to deal with the problems mentioned above. It is the most all encompassing game of the Arkham series but if you haven't played the other ones go for those first, they're cheaper and better. Look for this on sale.

This review will be about an already patched game I've experienced. So, as I mentioned, I don't know how unplayable the game was when it came out. So I will evaluate it in terms of what the game looks like today. From the very beginning, I was pleased that the Joker looks at the world again and not as in the previous game. It really made me happy, especially when the game got a new graphic jacket, thanks to which it looks phenomenal. Really beautiful graphics, and to top it all off, the characters have their own look back. Speaking of the visual, what I really like here is that we finally have the opportunity to choose a Batman suit. I missed this thing very much in previous episodes, so I was glad that I could finally throw Batman in a suit I like. Subsequently, I was disappointed very quickly, because most of the beautiful ones are part of the DLC that you have to buy. So, for example, in my case where I wanted the look of a Dark Knight suit, I had to pay extra. In addition to changing the suit, we can also change the look of the Batmobile. Yes, you read that right. Batmobil is in the game and we no longer have to just sail freely through the city, but drive through it in full beauty with the inflated Batman car. At the beginning, I was happy for this opportunity, but I soon changed my mind, because later in the game quite often you have to use your Batmobile to move on. In addition to Batmobile, Batman also has his previous toys, which we already know very well and do not bring anything new, but they do not offend. For example, in one part, the game didn't even seem to work like Batman, but like a Battlefield or Call of Duty, where you just shoot. I mentioned that this is happening in one part. You ask in what? I don't want to spoiler you. It is luxurious and I am glad that these parts have returned to the game. I criticized the previous part for not having these parts and if they did, they were memorable. But I remember them very well here and they were great. As for battles, they are great. Again, nothing new, but nothing wrong. But what is the story? He was always a master of Batman in the Arkham series, wasn't he? Well ... unfortunately not here. The Joker is back, but he won't save it at all. The story is great, yes, but unfortunately after the game I was quite disappointed, because it just didn't seem like the end. There's also a Scarecrow I'd like to mention, which looks very good, so I think its look from Arkham Asylum was better, but that's purely my opinion. So just why isn't the story as high as in previous episodes? Because the game is no longer just about him. I'll explain. In previous games, you had the opportunity to do side quests, but you didn't have to, and if you played purely the main line, you didn't lose anything and you got a full experience. But this is not the case here, and in order to get the final scene, you need to complete the game completely, to be more precise to 240%, and it is probably clear to you that very few players will ever make it to this end. Overall, it's a shame. The game is good, yes, but it has unnecessary game mechanisms that knock the game down. So the game is good and I recommend it to you in spite of all that, but only if you are a fan of Batman and best of all, if you have played previous parts and want to end the series, even if you do not get a proper ending. Unfortunately, with everything the game adds, there is a catch. With the graphical upgrade came performance issues and with the Batmobile sections, repetitiveness and uninspired enemy design.

In it, Batman faces off against Scarecrow, who is seeking revenge for Batman throwing him to Killer Croc in the first game, and the titular Arkham Knight, whose identity you can guess without even playing the game if you are familiar with the comics, and whose identity becomes obvious somewhere in the middle of the game even if you’re not.

This game continues on in the tradition of Arkham City and Arkham Origins in that you play Batman in an open-world city. The map is even bigger this time around, and you are given the Batmobile to drive around in.

The Batmobile is the big new feature of this game, and is very similar to the one seen in the Dark Knight trilogy of movies. It can turn into a tank and move around in any direction while in tank mode. This is essential for fighting the army of tank drones, autonomous vehicles which attack you and the city throughout the game.

Alas, while these sections are okay, they suffer from one major problem: it doesn’t feel very Batman-y. Given that these games are about feeling like Batman, this is something of an issue.

Alas, the rest of the game has little meaningful innovation. The fights in this game are bigger than ever, with a fight in the Batmobile against 60 drones, and fights against large numbers of goons appearing at various points in the game, as well as even more complex predator encounters, where you sneak around and pick off armed guards, including medics who can revive their allies, people who you can’t see through walls with detective vision, and huge goons with miniguns. The biggest innovation in the predator sequences is the so-called fear takedown, where you can take down a whole group of goons in sequence from hiding without them being able to shoot you while doing so.

Alas, this isn’t very innovative, and the predator sequences and the fighting with goons sequences don’t feel very fresh or new. And while that’s okay to some extent, the lack of really interesting new enemies is kind of discouraging.

Added onto this are the boss fights, or rather, the lack thereof. This game is very obsessed with the Batmobile, and unfortunately, a lot of the new boss fights are Batmobile centric. And indeed, the main boss of the game is the Arkham Knight, who you fight over and over again in various guises. This isn’t so bad – the fights are actually all unique – but they’re big on flash and not so big on substance. Cool fights – like the Doctor Freeze fight from the second game – aren’t really on the menu here, and while some of the fights are okay, and sneaking around blowing up tanks in the Batmobile is kind of neat in its own way, in the end, it feels a bit repetitive at times after a while.

The other villains are by and large much less interesting, sadly. Two-Face and Penguin make an appearance, but they’re just reskinned mooks, and are taken out in the same way. Deathstroke shows up again but is in a tank which is mostly a rehash of a previous fight in the game, Man-Bat is not really a boss at all, and while Firefly is a different take on the fight, it doesn’t feel terribly boss-like and is more of a racing sequence. Indeed, apart from the titular Arkham Knight, the only real boss-feeling enemy in the game is the Riddler, who pilots a gigantic mecha to take you out after you solve all of his riddles… again. This is actually a somewhat interesting fight, in part because it makes use of the switching mechanic which shows up in a few fights where you fight as two characters in the same fight, switching from one to another as you do team attacks, or just when you feel like it.

Unfortunately, the Scarecrow himself doesn’t show up in any meaningful capacity as an enemy – gone are the cool sequences from Arkham Asylum, replaced by and large with cut scenes. There are a couple of neat sequences, particularly towards the end of the game, but ultimately the game doesn’t do a whole lot with Scarecrow.

And indeed, this leaks over into the story as well – Scarecrow and the Arkham Knight are both pretty generic and uninteresting, and the game as a whole is a mostly bland revenge plot with one real twist which is kind of neat and involves the (deceased) Joker. Indeed, the Joker is again the highlight of this game, which is kind of sad because he’s, well, dead the whole game. On the whole, the plot isn’t terribly interesting or exciting, and it feels very much like you’re just bludgeoning your way through, rather than taking control of the situation in the way that it felt like you were doing in Arkham Asylum.

The game as a whole isn’t tight. I 100%ed the game and took about 70 hours doing it according to my Steam play time, though I suspect it was less than that and I just left the game running for a while a few times while alt-tabbed out. And unfortunately, this game felt long.

Short and sweet, no bugs game has some filler quests but not unbearingly a lot. The major problem is combat is exactly the same after 3 games and frankly its boring as hell. It doesn't help that the Joker once again has a major role in the game which made me feel as if we've been there and done that. There's I think one new minor enemy thrown into combat to mix things up.

Frankly the best part of the game was when you weren't Batman, which is kind of saying something when it's a Batman game.

The game's not bad but it definitely has that been there and done that feel, not only by the Arkham series but other generic open world games as well.

To be clear, I played this game after they fixed the horrible initial port version. It's a Batman game. The voice acting is superb, fighting is fun. Your typical Arkham game. However, one of the things that made Arkham Asylum great was playing as Batman in enclosed areas and stalking your prey. This game has this, but I never really felt like that super cool Bat in the dark type feeling. That's what the first game nailed so well, you were Batman. This game relies too heavily on awful tank battles. Nearly every notable boss battle was in the Bat-Tank. Really disappointing because one of the strong suits of the previous two games was the intuitive and really cool boss fights. This game makes the boss fights probably the least fun part of the game, when it used to be one of the strongest aspects. I mean, you fight Deathstroke in a tank. Deathstroke, the world's greatest assassin, uses a freaking tank to fight Batman. Pretty lame if you ask me. Get it on sale if you want, it's an okay end to the series. Oh and don't you dare buy the season pass. Absolutely awful. Some of the worst DLCs I've ever seen. Expand

PC port worked great for me only had slight frame rate drops and slight frame tear and voice sync fallout. The game as a whole with out the PC port being broken for most is above average at best. The combat is the same as before and is worth less on any difficulty below hard. Enemies are numerous and varied but it is Arkham City all over again just tweaked slightly. Enemies are numerous and varied but it is Arkham City all over again just tweaked slightly. If I wanted to play Arkham City again i would have instead. Story is boring and you can see all the twists coming for a mile away even if you aren't a batman comic or cartoon fan. Joker is the only saving grace for the story the voice acting for him is wonderful absolutely amazing. He is the only reason i kept playing this game to the end. He kept me laughing and entertained throughout. The Arkham Knights identity is spoiled half way through the game without being intentional as far as I could tell. The big reveal at the end isn't that great since you know who it is by then. I don't want to spoil it for you since the game does it nicely all by its self. The game takes about 17 hours to finish the story with little to no side quests and that is awesome value for the money. If this came out and Arkham City never did this would have been an amazing game but it is the same and that is a shame. If you want a game to spend the money on get Witcher 3 and wait for this game to come down in price.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm a huge, huge, HUGE Arkham series fan and literally love the previous games in the series for the amazing pacing, rich world and cool gameplay.... but Arkham Knight disappoints!

NOTE: This is not a performance review, nor a port rant, nor a technical complaint of any kind. It's a game review for what the game is about. Possible SPOILERS bellow.

To me the game worked just fine. Crashed only twice, didn't experience any major gameplay and also weren't much bothered with the 30 FPS cap which note is for all platforms. Yes, I would have liked to have higher frame rates but it wouldn't stop me enjoy my top favorite game series for the last 5 years.

    TIPS: To have best performance:
    1. Disable NVIDIA Enhanced Smoke, it's the biggest performance hog, though even with it is still playable
    2. This is the bad one. Use an SSD for the game install. I don't have a stellar spec machine but to me it worked fine with stable 30 frames (it hitched from times to times but not that hard and not often at all)
    3. If you unlock the frames you will notice the ups and downs in frame rate far more and the enjoyment will be far less

Now for the review itself… Why did I give my top favorite series last installation a 6... Sadly because it has too much flaws in almost everything that it tries to do. The game offers you a rather sizable city with so many options to explore that at some point you can't feel anything but overwhelmed by it. Rocksteady, the developers behind the series seem to have forgotten what made the previous games so good. It was a very solid and fine tuned progression, very focused experience. The story felt fresh and engaging and the asylum/city was full of rich details and areas to explore. The Catwoman addon to Arkham City was a great add on to Batman’s story and she felt unique and very diverse to play with

With Arkham Knight, things are different. The game includes the addition of the Batmobile and it tries really hard to force it down your throat and convince you how great it is... which sadly was not the case. Inherently there are no major problems with the Batmobile, but we enter this world to be the Batman... not his car and as such the car should have been more of an extension of his tool belt rather than a mandatory companion of many of the games forced car sequences.

Sadly the combat has suffered as well. There are some great additions to enemy variety and abilities. The medics make you think more often about your priorities, charging enemies interrupt your established flow and Batman's move list feels radically improved, but with that.... Gone is the clarity in combat, gone is the precise impact and interaction with the enemies, gone is even the slightest intimidation that any big enemy group provides.

You can easily overcome any group of enemies with all the things that you can do and the combat has suffered in several aspects because of that expanded variety. Moves performed by the characters didn't contact properly. Everything happens so fast, but you still notice how limbs don’t do what they were supposed to. The combat felt more hectic and chaotic than in previous games. More noticeable were big particle effects on every punch, which to my opinion weren't really necessary. And not with the addition of all secondary playable characters, combat doesn't feel unique it's more of a thing to do, doesn't really matter how you do it, just don't die, don't kill the objective too early (interrogations), and .... Don’t care with which character are you doing it considering they are practically identical and appear for no more than 10 minutes of screen time.

I did mention the big city, this however didn't mean that the city has suffered in detail (similarly to the city created in Origins) It's a very beautiful and detail rich city. There are quite a number of small details in the environment if you walk down the streets and take the time to explore.... which you never do, nor does the game encourage you. The constant all direction sense of urgency and danger makes you run (mostly fly) from spot to spot without noticing much where are you currently and what’s around you. Many of the city set pieces were never explored fully (like the underground old Gotham or even less the over ground new Gotham)

You mostly fly/drive around beating the living hell of anything that moves... Because you are Batman... Your team is astonishingly incompetent (Oracle, Nightwing, Robin) and the bad guys have you so often dead to rights that at some point you wonder how are you still alive.

Don’t get me wrong. All in all, I did like the game. There were some incredibly written set pieces and parts of the story was greatly enjoyable to see how they will unfold, but sadly this was not the majority of the game littered with the issue of too big goals, too poor execution and great lack of focus spread too thin all . The predictable story and the forced Batmobile didn’t help either.

Playing as Batman? Awesome. Playing as Batman through repetitive, empty missions? Less awesome. Playing as the Batmobile? Awful.

Porting issues aside, Batman: Arkham Knight is a decent enough game. It's not the spectacular swansong we hoped for from Rocksteady, but it's another solid - if predictable - slice of Arkham gameplay, with a couple of great sections along the way.

An entertaining superhero power fantasy, let down by awful Batmobile combat, a laughable villain, and serious performance issues.
