Oct 17, 2025Ball x Pit is a very easy game to pick up and play, though it’s also one where the central gameplay conceit is very much present in the free demo; I could see some gamers bouncing (pun not intended) off it pretty hard, but if the demo intrigues you, trust me, there’s a lot more to come that does get addictive fast.
-
Oct 16, 2025BALL x PIT does everything I want a roguelike game to do, delivering fun mechanics in an infinitely replayable loop that also manages to be a unique departure from many games in the genre. Paired with gorgeous dark fantasy pixel art, incredible music, and a fun, unique setting, the game gives you many reasons to give it a try and few excuses to avoid it.
-
Oct 15, 2025Ball x Pit is a game that I never want to stop playing, thanks to its clever fusion of Breakout bouncing and Roguelike randomness.
-
Oct 15, 2025The interplay of game systems and gothic styling of playable characters, enemies, weapon, and town upgrades elevates an already incredible game to something all-consuming. Something so good that it scares me.
-
Oct 28, 2025Combining a block breaker with a survive ‘em up is brilliant, the pinball city building is a giggle, and the inventiveness that runs throughout the entire production is utterly brilliant...It’s a whole load of balls and I love it.
-
Oct 20, 2025Ball x Pit delivers an exhilarating mix of pinball-inspired combat and roguelite progression, wrapped in a uniquely absurd aesthetic that keeps players hooked. The developer's chaotic vision shines through with tight gameplay mechanics, meaningful character variety, and a surprisingly engaging base-building system. While its difficulty spikes can frustrate and progression sometimes stalls without clear cause, the game remains a standout indie title that rewards both skill and experimentation.
-
Oct 15, 2025Ball X Pit is a wildly inventive twist on a classic formula, blending brick breaking with roguelike progression, RPG mechanics, and resource management into a chaotic, endlessly replayable experience. Thanks to a deep roster of characters, seemingly endless ball combinations, and a settlement system that evolves between runs, the game will sink it hooks into you and refuse to let you go.
-
Oct 15, 2025BALL X PIT is one of the most satisfying and engaging games we've played all year. No matter what type of gamer you are, BALL X PIT is a must-play.
-
Nov 3, 2025With each successful run taking no longer than twenty minutes, Ball x Pit is perfectly paced. It's ideal for a quick session, making it a dream pairing for a handheld device like the SteamDeck, ready to consume your daily commute. But be warned: the loop is so tight and the rewards so constant that Ball x Pit will inevitably consume far more than just your travel time. It's an exceptionally polished game that understands the fundamental mechanics of player compulsion, delivering a roguelike experience that you simply won't want to put down.
-
Nov 5, 2025Ball x Pit is a surprisingly deep brick-breaker that relies heavily on smart strategy, clever experimentation, and careful planning more so than RNG and luck alone.
-
Oct 16, 2025Ball X Pit is far more than just a game that riffs on the Vampire Survivors formula. It's a game that offers a little something for everyone, with incredibly addictive bullet-hell action, thoughtful township building that doubles as a Roguelike progression system, and on-screen chaos through insane power-ups that make it nearly impossible to track every projectile racing across your screen. It's a hands-on and involved version of its contemporaries, and a truly unique option for anyone who loves the genre. Don't expect jaw-dropping visuals or a tearjerker of a story. But the trade-off of epic gameplay is more than worth it here. In short, you'll have a ball. In fact, you'll have tonnes of them.
-
Oct 15, 2025BALL x PIT is an addictive roguelike by Kenny Sun that offers great value through its diverse characters, floors, and combinable special balls. Each floor features unique visuals, music, and enemies, encouraging varied tactics rather than repetitive play. While some evolutions are unbalanced and AOE damage dominates, the Arkanoid-style gameplay keeps runs fun and engaging. Progression feels rewarding, with stronger characters, new blueprints, and unlockable content.
-
Oct 15, 2025BALL x PIT is an unexpectedly addictive roguelike that throws a few well-worn ideas into a pot to meld them into something bizarre, captivating, and unique. While there’s a rhythm to firing, fusing, and evolving balls that’s moreish and hard to put down, things like the city-building complement the package so well, it’s the ultimate “one more run” game. And just like the balls you’ll spend hours branding the enemy with, you’ll keep coming back again, and again, and again.
-
Oct 15, 2025I really loved BALL x PIT. Its gameplay is addictive to no end and every aspect just enriches the experience that much more.
-
Oct 15, 2025Ball x Pit is a brick-breaking, resource-farming, base-building, ball-bouncing bonanza that addictively combines multiple different genre archetypes to make one of the most unique and rewarding new indie games in recent memory.
-
Oct 15, 2025BALL X PIT takes a classic genre and perfectly updates it for modern audiences. Runs are relatively short, but they’re addicting in the sort of way where you’ll constantly find yourself wanting just one more. There’s an absolute ton of variety, and I expect players to have a fantastic time figuring out which of the game’s many heroes are their favorites. Even after playing dozens of hours, it kept finding new ways to amaze me. Don’t be surprised when you can’t stop playing BALL X PIT.
-
Nov 3, 2025With BALL X PIT, Kenny Sun has shown that, rather than staying stuck in the same old tracks, by experimenting and intelligently blending different genres, it's possible to create something new and surprising. A small, raw gem capable of shining on its own.
-
Oct 31, 2025Ball x Pit is one of the most surprising and engaging roguelites of 2025, capable of transforming a simple idea into a mesmerizing gaming experience. This is the indie game from Devolver Digital that you need to download now, and it's also available as a demo.
-
Oct 30, 2025BALL x PIT is impressive in its ability to build an entire experience around one core idea. Players will launch balls at enemies during their runs and will then use the same mechanic to unlock new heroes and gather resources. Variety, starting with heroes and continuing with ball powers and character perks, means every run is different and there’s plenty of space to experiment. Wisely, the game asks players to beat levels with more than one hero to progress. The settlement development suffers from limited options, but the combat is exciting enough to compensate. BALL x PIT is fast and fun, a clear sign that there are still new and cool things to do with action survival.
-
Oct 29, 2025Ball x Pit has haunted our console for days, like a ghost that refused to leave, claiming more and more space, more and more time. It’s one of the most ruthless examples of those games that make you say, “just one more round and I’ll stop,” except you never actually do. Every match is engaging, every bit of character building grabs you by the hand and drags you into perfectly timed sessions that almost always — even when you lose — leave you with something useful for the next attempt. It’s a Machiavellian mechanism. The credit goes partly to the tried-and-true roguelite formula, but also to the creativity shown in designing power-ups, special balls, and characters. Ball x Pit is pure joy... as irresistible and alluring as a siren’s song.
-
Oct 28, 2025BALL x PIT takes the simple mechanics of a brick-breaker like Ballz and transforms them into an explosive roguelite RPG. Between twin-stick shooter action, Vampire Survivors-style power-ups, and surprisingly deep city building, each playthrough becomes a whirlwind of frenetic action and strategic planning. Unlocking new powers, fusing abilities, and upgrading your base is an irresistible gameplay loop, enhanced by beautifully crafted biomes and bullet hell battles against ruthless bosses. Kenny Sun once again proves his ability to transform simple ideas into brilliant and engaging experiences.
-
Oct 28, 2025Arkanoid meets roguelite in the best of ways, Ball x Pit is a punishing, addictive, and an exceptionally well done title.
-
Oct 24, 2025BALL x PIT is an excellent indie game that elevates the primal satisfaction of brick-breaking by adding a core fun factor: 'combination'. Built on the familiar framework of a Vampire Survivors-like, its unique system of combining balls and characters—along with a highly addictive loop connecting the action to base-building—creates a deeply immersive experience.
-
Dec 17, 2025Ball X Pit is further proof of the extraordinary creativity of the independent gaming scene. It's a title that knows its history well, drawing on classics such as Arkanoid, Tetris, and Breakout, and using them as a foundation to build a modern, brilliant, and surprisingly layered experience. The combination of RPG elements, management mechanics, roguelite components, and moments of pure bullet hell creates a unique game that is both frenetic and strategic. The gameplay loop is solid, satisfying, and capable of keeping the player in front of the screen for hours without noticing. The difficulty curve is well calibrated: challenging but never frustrating, always offering a stimulating and rewarding challenge. Artistically inspired by arcade atmospheres and accompanied by sophisticated sound design. A game that truly takes you into the abyss and manages to make that journey so enjoyable that you won't want to come back up.
-
Nov 17, 2025Ball x Pit is a roguelike that mixes Breakout and Peggle with echoes of Vampire Survivors and The Binding of Isaac. You choose heroes, launch baby-orbs to hit enemies, unlock power orbs with different effects, and use fission reactors to combine and upgrade everything. Between runs, you rebuild Ballbylonia to improve stats and unlock new characters. The early game is tougher, but once it kicks in, the loop becomes extremely addictive, supported by great audiovisual presentation.
-
Nov 3, 2025Ball X Pit distills the spirit of a great roguelite into something deceptively simple and endlessly addictive. Its minimalist visuals prioritize clarity over spectacle, allowing the chaos of ricocheting shots, enemy swarms, and evolving abilities to shine. The soundtrack, with its lo-fi pulse and electronic tension, adds surprising atmosphere and energy to every run. What truly elevates it is the flow: fast attempts, meaningful upgrades, smart synergies and characters that drastically change the rhythm and style of play. Even the light base-building layer contributes to progression without dragging momentum. It never wastes the player’s time, always rewards experimentation, and consistently fuels the urge for “just one more run”. Proof that sharp design beats big budgets, Ball X Pit is a tight, creative and dangerously replayable descent into chaos.

Edge MagazineOct 30, 2025Playing Ball X Pit is a long ramp of rapturous discovery, a mad scientist's laboratory where the goal is to make the screen as blissfully incoherent as can be. [Issue#417, p.118]
-
Oct 16, 2025Ball x Pit is an audiovisual onslaught – chaotic, clever, and cathartic. A Breakout for the modern age that proves the simplest ideas often have the longest shelf life.
-
Oct 16, 2025BALL x PIT offers a highly diverse range of build options, while its city-building system outside of combat creates a long and rewarding progression curve. There's always a new goal to pursue, and the constant cascade of bouncing balls delivers a uniquely satisfying, almost pachinko-like thrill.
-
Oct 15, 2025Addictive, fun, and rich in variables, BALL x PIT will appeal to players who are always looking for more depth in their games, even if it means repeating the same adventure many times over.
-
Oct 15, 2025Feeling like a combination of Vampire Survivors and Peggle, BALL x PIT is a unique roguelike that we simply can't get enough of. It's tough, and death can come quite easily, but that just makes us want to jump in again and again.
-
Oct 15, 2025Ball x Pit is a novel game that combines many roguelike, block-busting, and city organization elements in a way that makes sense. It’s quite clever, and I felt like it was pretty fair too! Due to the way ball fusions work and the nature of characters, it’s pretty easy to feel empowered as you play. I did feel a bit disappointed to find actually taking down some bosses right away wasn’t exactly an easy prospect due to not having build up New Ballbylon enough ahead of time. It is both creative and satisfying though, and scratches the same sort of itch as Vampire Survivors.
-
Oct 15, 2025Kenny Sun's new game is a voguish spin on an Atari classic - and it rules.
-
Oct 15, 2025A roller coaster ride of ball-bouncing action that loves to break its own rules.
-
Oct 15, 2025BALL x PIT stands out for its inventiveness by combining frantic action, roguelite progression, and block-breaking mechanics into a unique experience. The sphere fusion system and the cycle of building and upgrading the city provide a constant sense of progress and experimentation, while the retro visuals and controlled chaos of the battles make each match intense and engaging. However, the repetition of stages, constant grinding, and lack of variety eventually diminish some of the initial impact. Still, it remains a notable title for its originality and hypnotizing action.
-
Oct 15, 2025BALL x PIT is a fun blend of old-school brick breaker and shoot ’em up games. Its creative ball fusions and frantic gameplay will sell you, but the variety will keep you engaged. It’s still a roguelite with some occasionally exhausting moments and very challenging bosses, but it’s ultimately inventive and full of personality.
-
Nov 4, 2025Ball x Pit shines brightest when it's letting you loose on enemies ahead of you, and giving you the tools to concoct your own brand of unstoppable chaos to fill the screen. It's easy to move from one run to the next when you're filling just a handful of minutes with thousands of enemy kills, accentuated by bright explosions and dizzying particle effectsBut your momentum can also be frequently halted by the vital town management moments in between them. Progression through Ball x Pit's campaign can feel uneven as a result, but, that's easy to overlook when the majority of the runs you embark on carry the potential to both surprise and delight in equal measure, with enough variety to keep the action in your final hours with the game as grin-inducing as your first.
-
Oct 16, 2025There’s something soothing about BALL x PIT. Losses rarely feel too dispiriting and that part of your brain that enjoys seeing the numbers going up is well-served. Some of the elements dictating how you progress through the game are a little frustrating but it’s all worth it for those moments where you bounce your balls just right and a swath of approaching enemy forces are wiped out in seconds.
-
Oct 15, 2025True to its central idea, Ball x Pit is a great blend of Breakout-style combat and frantic, Vampire Survivors-esque progression. At its height, it's a flow state-inducing assault on the senses that makes great work of its Evolution mechanic to craft deeply stylish builds, but it eventually grinds to a halt thanks to a bloated progression system.
-
Oct 15, 2025Do not play Ball x Pit expecting a solid roguelite experience — because you won’t find one. What you will find, however, is an interesting reinterpretation of Vampire Survivors in a brick-breaker format: dynamic enough, with a generous arsenal and a small town-management mechanic that adds a bit of freshness to the formula. Despite the gameplay variations introduced by certain characters, it doesn’t take long before a sense of repetitiveness settles in, as you start chaining runs without thinking too much about it.

Oct 28, 2025With Ball x Pit, we might have suspected that the demos had shown us a fun design, but without much depth in the final game. Nothing could be further from the truth. Devolver's new title is a masterclass in surprising us with all kinds of ideas to expand on a simple but addictive foundation. [Recommended]

Oct 27, 2025When you’re in the zone on a good run, the game is a delightful, colorful, and chaotic experience that feels like a hyper-extreme version of the classic Breakout. With so many characters to play and ways to improve your base, Ball x Pit goes deep.
