  1. For those who've never played the original, Bad Mojo Redux is a must-have. Load it up and see what all the shouting was about. For those who've played the Win3.1 version, Bad Mojo Redux is what the game should have looked like and, when coupled with the companion DVD, is the deal of the year.
  2. Undoubtedly one of the "must play" adventure games. There is simply no other game quite like it. The 2004 release is not a new game and not even a remake, however the significantly improved technical quality and wealth of additional material, combined with an attractive price, will make the new Bad Mojo appealing even to existing owners of the 1996 version.
  3. Revives a true classic, and optimizes it for performance. An absolute must-play for any adventure fan with even a passing tolerance of insects. If you can't beat 'em... join 'em!
  4. This sucker is hard. Exploration is the name of the game and quite often you will have to perform an action in one part of the house that has ramifications somewhere far off in another room. Putting it all together is definitely a challenge.

If any game deserves George Lucas-style tampering, it's this one. [Feb 2005, p.53]

A strong stomach is more important than a Pentium IV for this one. [March 2005, p.113]
  7. The documentary is a wonderful adjunct to the game, insightful and witty, well put together and with some original footage including the audition of the lead actor and a 1996 spot on Good Morning America (check out the price of the game back then.
  8. While modern games are known for their slick graphics and elaborate animated sequences, Mojo proves that clever ideas and solid gameplay can trump high-tech tricks.
  9. There are a few bugs (of the game engine kind) and it’s far from perfect (it’s very short and slightly repetitive), but to experience something completely different that hasn’t been tried before or since is always worth the asking price.
  10. It’s just that, while I liked Bad Mojo well enough, I didn’t care that much about it, and so the bonus DVD didn’t do all that much for me.

It's an old-school trip and although it's been updated somewhat to play on the newer PC systems it still retains the old charm with little change in the gameplay.

Truly repellent content. [Sept 2007, p.75]

Play it because it is weird and unique. The subject matter can be grotesque but that's the charm of this game. Beautifully crafted graphicsPlay it because it is weird and unique. The subject matter can be grotesque but that's the charm of this game. Beautifully crafted graphics and music. Slow paced, you get to absorb the atmosphere. The puzzles are not difficult to figure out, plus there are hints on what should be done next. You don't find games like this everyday. Full Review »

I had heard about it many years ago but I recently remembered of it after seeing it mentioned in a list of good old games. The video cutscenes are silly (and very low quality) but they are funny but the gameplay is impeccable. It surprised me that while it was traditionally harder than newer games, it wasn’t that bad and I think the balance of its difficulty even for 2019 was excellent. It did not hand hold you and a puzzle or two could have better controls to make more sense, but it always gave hints. Only minor gripe I have with it is that the symbol that denotes there’s a guide nearby could be more explicitly explained at the start as an existence in the game because resolution was too low to notice it at the start.

Anyway, 9/10. It could easily be remade or turn HD.

PS. It would likely digust you at first. I nearly stopped playing the game entirely because of it. But it’s part of its character.

Yeah, the puzzles aren't hard and it can be a bit annoying to control, there's no volume control, resolution is fixed and the over-acting is cringeworthy, but the unique setting and atmosphere makes up for the defects. Given I bought the game for under a dollar I felt it was more than worth my money and time for the experience. Full Review »
