Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is one of the best games based on a movie in memory. The possibilities of the open world are endless and fun is guaranteed for many hours.

If you walked away from Avatar wishing a world like Pandora actually existed out there, here you go. This is that world. Seeing Pandora is one thing, but being able to scale its massive treetops, soar high above its floating mountains on an Ikran, and traverse its wide open plains on the back of a Direhorse is really something special. This is the best version of Avatar yet.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a huge game in which exploration plays a very important role, as every corner of the Western Frontier is full of plants to catalogue, ingredients to collect and materials to use to improve our equipment. The fights are very exciting and it is essential to combine stealth actions with incursions based on the surprise effect. The proprietary Snowdrop engine offers us a wonderful graphic representation, which combined with a quality soundtrack guarantees an almost cinematic experience. Those looking for non-stop action might find a few too many dead moments, but it remains an extremely high-quality open world shooter adventure despite never trying to introduce any innovations to the genre.

A delight for fans of Avatar, this game is so damned good that even one apathetic to the IP like myself couldn’t help but fall in love with it.

Frontiers of Pandora is by no means a groundbreaking game (at least gameplay-wise), but its amazing representation of this universe will surprise you many times over.

Pandora is a world beautiful enough to make you fall on your knees. You can happily spend dozens of hours exploring - only the story can't quite keep up.

It's a Ubisoft open-worlder to its core, but this spin on the world of Avatar has some really special moments.

With its magnificent graphics which give the feeling of a next gen game (apart from the NPCs), Avatar Frontiers of Pandora is an invitation to travel, to immerse yourself and get lost on the magnificent planet of Pandora. But if graphically the title is incredible, it ultimately remains far too academic in its gameplay. We actually feel that the developers really wanted to break away from the usual formula of Ubisoft games, notably Far Cry, forcing them to go in a direction that was a little too conventional. The adventure goes well, but it lacks that epic side that we are waiting for forever. Ubisoft's title could have been the last great game of 2023, it will ultimately remain a good game that did not follow through with the proposition.

Ubisoft delivered what it promised. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is another beautiful canonical piece for the stunning Avatar universe. With a new storyline and characters on a yet unseen continent, the open world game offers a unique experience in terms of exploration and combat, giving the player the exciting experience of becoming a true Na'vi.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a remarkable adventure, and I will happily return here in the already announced story driven DLCs. It is not the best open world game but it is one of the best movie-to-videogame transfers in history.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a solid open-world action game that may appeal to more than just fans of James Cameron's movies. While many elements are similar to the Far Cry series, Ubisoft's title has enough of its own personality to call it more than just a spin-off of the well-known shooter series.

At every turn, Avatar Frontiers is a game that boldly blooms. Each time I stepped away from the world, I found myself wishing to return. Whether I was soaring the skies on my Ikran or running through the forest floor, I was entranced by the world of Pandora. There wasn’t a moment of the game where I didn’t feel I was getting a first-hand experience of a living, breathing alien planet. However, much like James Cameron’s films, the planet’s allure outweighs the substance of the plot. So, while I certainly found myself empathizing with the Na’vi mission and my protagonist’s quest, it felt a bit run of the mill. With that in mind, newcomers to the franchise will experience an elevated hands-on version of Avatar’s initial arrival.

My relationship with Ubisoft in the past couple of years has been sort of a love-hate situation but Avatar Frontiers of Pandora has broken the cycle and feels like a breath of fresh air.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora may not be for those suffering from open-world fatigue, but it delivers an immersive experience for fans with some solid gameplay and storytelling.

Without any point of interest, this new Ubi Open World makes you feel the breath of the wild from the Western Frontiers of Pandora. Even though the level gating of the game is a real pain and disappointment, we have loved our adventure and parkour on this magnificent Pandora.

A rinse-and-repeat of other Ubisoft titles, but still undeniably enjoyable thanks to gorgeous visuals and engaging story-telling.

You can spend countless hours cataloging the various plant life throughout the Western Frontier, seeking out every Tsraya flower to unlock new upgrades, and dismantling RDA bases far and wide - and I probably will. I am constantly in awe of the places I discover in Frontiers, from grand vistas to hidden caves to lookout points on floating mountains that give you the most incredible view. It’s a world I’m excited to continue exploring and learning about, and overall it has deepened my love for Avatar. Ubisoft’s strengths are also sometimes the things that keep it running in place, unable to iterate and evolve, and Frontiers is the perfect example of that. It’s everything you love and hate about Ubisoft games, Avatar-style.

Frontiers of Pandora may not blow you away with its story, but it will immerse you in its world and give you a rush of adrenaline. For those just wanting to take a trip to Pandora, this should satisfy you until Cameron releases Avatar 3 in 2025.

Like it or not, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora feels like the perfect companion piece to James Cameron’s movies: it’s big but often intimate. Savage but calm. Familiar but charming. Even without playing a single minute of it, you should know whether it’s something you want to play. If you decide to make the jump, I suggest letting go of cheap analogies and using Na’vi instincts first and gamer brain second.

Most of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora's work to emphasize its open world is very effective. Pandora is often magnificent, and I stopped repeatedly just to look around and take it in. Diverting from a goal to gather up some armor bark and bow string or blow up an industrial facility were fun detours and felt like an important part of existence there. Best of all, I never felt like an open-world trashman, dumping junk on the way to the next map marker. Instead, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora made me feel like I was adventuring in a place worth exploring, and I'm eager to go back.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has some excellent mechanical depth let down by repetitive missions and a very safe story. When you’re flowing through the environment taking out RDA soldiers with volleys of arrows, it feels fantastic. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t provide many opportunities to use the full breadth of its systems. Still, it’s drop dead gorgeous and very fun for what it is.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a staggering sensory experience, and the consistent beauty of its world goes hand-in-hand with an engaging story.

Frontiers of Pandora' may occasionally feel like a reskinned 'Far Cry', but it absolutely nails the ambience and atmosphere of James Cameron's eco-scifi world. One of those rare licensed games that retroactively improves the source material it's based on.

Even with its faults, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a stunning visual achievement, much like the films on which it's inspired. Only here, a rich narrative pulls you deep into the Na'vi and explores more tangible means of fighting back against a colonial power that offers a cathartic experience... Blow up a pipeline, save an animal, and explore the vast world of Pandora. That's a heck of a way to close out a year.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is an exceptional realization of this franchise. Its spirit feels pitch-perfect, walking completely in step with James Cameron's films. It understands Avatar and its appeal and lets it be led by that rather than typical FPS and Ubisoft tropes. Its highs soar, while also taking on some harrowing themes too. It may not work for everyone, but it’s a delight for any Avatar enjoyer and one of the best games based on a film IP ever made.

If you adore or simply enjoy Cameron’s sci-fi world, you will appreciate your time in this action-adventure title. But, if you were hoping that you would see the impact and talent of Massive shining through, introducing new, unique, and game changing mechanics and systems, you’ll be sorely disappointed.

If you're a fan of Ubisoft's open world formula, you're going to love Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. No, it doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it doesn't have to. The gorgeous world of Pandora makes for a fantastic playground that simply begs to be explored. And if that's not enough, you've got some epic set pieces, an enjoyable story and a great variety of side content to look forward to, too. It's open world game 101, and I'm just fine with that.

Net of some gameplay issues that make Avatar Frontiers of Pandora a sometimes wasted opportunity, Massive Entertainment's latest effort is the perfect product for taking a virtual journey through the lands of Pandora. In fact, it is a game that boasts extreme fidelity to the IP, both in terms of how the world is built and how the characters are characterized. In short, the most avid fans of James Cameron's films will be able to appreciate this aspect of the experience and turn a blind eye to the defects.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora brilliantly takes us into the world created by James Cameron, telling a canonical story that takes place in an unseen area of Pandora but that we can perceive as authentic thanks to the care and attention Massive Entertainment has put into its creation. However, that's the only truly excellent aspect within a production that promised so much (quadruple A, they said) and instead proves to lack great ideas.

Ultimately, to our greatest regret, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora blows hot and cold. Focused on its mission to immerse us in a fascinating universe, something it accomplishes brilliantly, Ubisoft's game gives the feeling of remaining too dependent on its flagship formula in terms of first-person shooter games. The know-how is undeniable and it shows, but the Ubisoft Massive title accumulates too many unnecessary activities, to the point of losing sight of its main objective and harming itself. If it indeed pushes the boundaries of James Cameron's adaptation by taking us to unknown lands, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, despite its undeniable qualities of immersion, comes up against the barriers that separate entertaining video game experiences from resounding releases and other video game references.

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora is a well-made licensed product. Without ever making a fuss, Lightstorm's title immerses us in the universe imagined by James Cameron thanks to a visually superb open world, but whose recipe has been around for a long time. Far Cry's skeleton is no longer solid-boned, and while it's more than enough to keep you going for 20 to 25 hours, it's unlikely that you'll retain anything from the experience, unless you're a hardcore fan of the license it's based on.
