Let's start with pros - the game looks gorgeous and most of the time runs nicely. I also really like these small eyeball movements and facial expressions of the main characters (others dont have any expressions so such things like screaming only comes to opening mouth for them). But that's all.
Now for the cons - The game been crashing for me everyday at least once dropping me back to the desktop. If i were lucky enough to play for some time, sooner or later i came onto some kind of bug or error that blocked the progress - NPC i should be following stands like a statue, script didn't triggers even tho i am in a correct possition, or Quest started without it's objective and i couldn't end it (the one with the barrier). That alone had a massive impact on my enjoyment with the game.
Next up - Plot. The game's being set in RPG genre. Yes Eivor is cool and easy to identify with but the whole story is boring and unnecessarily stretched out. Not a single decision has a impact on story. Everything comes to go to point X and kill bunch of NPC's - all the time. Eivor is a viking right? Forget about sneaking then. Ubisoft was promising 'getting back to the roots of the series' with sneaking within monks - yes you can actually do it. Is there a reason you should do it for? Not at all. 99% of the time you have to use violence (call your crew and raid the place) in order to open up a way to your goal. All this 'assassin's vs templars' plot could be easly removed from the game and nothing would happen.
The whole 'settlement' thing also does very little for the game. I only returned there whenever the main story ordered me to do so. Of course you can upgrade the gear there (that also has very little impact for the game - you can literarlly go with your starting eq and you'll be fine) or give back gathered collectibles in return for more minningless items.
Birds fly with 15 FPS (even if you're right next to them) witch makes them look hillarious.
Sounds are compressed 'to save up some disk space' but they sound just awfully. I also can't remember a single musical background.
The game is clearly designed to take at least 50 hours if you rush it, so that the regular player will have to buy at least two months of ubisoft+ to finish it. In my honest opinion - less hours but better narration or gameplay is worth more than gigantic world filled with boring activities.
It doesn't deserve more than 7. It's an okay game but nothing besides that - not a good Assassin's Creed game nor a game about Vikings.

Another craft from Ubisoft. If the previous two parts looked good, but Valhalla was already boring. The main character's story didn't grab me. And everything that concerns the plot about the Assassins has not been interesting to me at all for 10 years.

Ubisoft's game design philosophy mimics that of mobile game designers. They have made a very basic foundation for a game and in each iteration they update or redesign the art by using software that employ procedural content generation(Houdini for example) to automate the process as much as possible.
The core concepts of gameplay could be described as a very short and average main campaign

The core concepts of gameplay could be described as a very short and average main campaign that is slowed and hindered to a halt by artificial and unintuitive grinds to keep the player invested and sometimes to encourage purchase of boosters to pass these forced limitations. This review as far as I know could be attributed to all of modern Ubisoft games

So this is the play now from Ubisoft? Release a game, get the reviews without the bad press from microtransactions then release the parasite mechanics? Can't say i'm totally surprised given this is pretty much what they've done since AC:Origins.

It's a lesson to gamers to seriously reconsider buying a game either by pre-order or even post-order because the bad stuff appears to come

Is it as bad as they say though? Well try restarting the game now they are selling XP boosters and see if its even more grindier than when it released and you'll have your answer.

W porównaniu do poprzedniej części: nieco mniej przyjemna rozgrywka, ładniejsza grafika, brudniejszy klimat, bardziej nużące i powtarzalne czynności, głupsza fabuła.

Leading up to release, the noise around Valhalla did manage to hype me up. And it didn't disappoint... at least that's what I thought at the beginning. And, from my own experience, it seems to be a pattern throughout all of the AC games: they start out strong and slowly fade away towards the end once all of the routines settle in.

The story is alright, but nothing too exciting. Usual Ubisoft problems there: boring dialogues and poor animation. World events it's the only breath of fresh air in this entry. Most of them seem fun and interesting, although they lack in depth and duration. I've stumbled upon a few quest-breaking bugs with World Events as well.

Speaking of bugs, there's quite a few. Although sometimes it's difficult to say whether something is a bug or it's a poor game design. Abilities require some serious rebalancing, I ended up using only one ability (the one with the harpoon) as it was dealing much more damage than all the other ones. Skill tree was rather annoying with all the sub-nodes to unlock, as unlocking them didn't add anywhere nearly enough difference to actually notice during gameplay.

Visually the game looks like Odyssey, in the best-case scenarios that is. But in most cases, it actually looks worse. Very disappointing in that regard.

And gear and weapons... Oh boy, that was one of the stupidest changes they introduced. The gear system is basically non-existent. I ended up using the first gear set (Berserk) I got at the very beginning of the game throughout the rest of it. Other gear sets had weak buffs and looked much worse next to my upgraded gear. Same with weapons: tons of shields, barely any interesting weapons. I found a badass axe at the beginning of the game and used it for the whole game as I couldn't find anything better.

Overall experience was very mediocre. The game feels extremely rushed into release and unimaginative. Like with pretty much all of the previous AC games, they could do a much better job if only they invested a decent amount of time into development. 3 years of development is a joke, regardless of how many studios were involved.

Oh, birds and flames at half the framerate are still there ;)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is exceptional. Combat mechanics are very nice, every weapon is different and has its own movement, also the finishing moves are great, too. Exploration is wonderful, every time you encounter them, it's always different and not just some kill and fetch quests, and that's what makes this world of Saxon England feels alive.

The things that I don't like is Asgard, it's an isu world, so we should have Isu powers, just like in Odyssey, and the Asgard story is just boring. Castle sieges are also buggy, some enemy soldiers will only doing taunting, or attack nothing. I think wars mechanics in Odyssey is better than sieges in this game. And of course, there are also some bugs, like crashing, character stuck, etc.

Loved the game for the first 30-40 hours even though this is probably the most buggy singleplayer game I have ever played. The combat is so underwhelming and the sound design is AWFUL. The story delivery (character expressions and voice acting) and the cinematic experience is the typical ubisoft mediocrity. It had a few good moments but they were far too rare. But I still had a great time exploring the world and farming resources. But the moment I got tired of exploring, is the moment where the game started to drag and become annoying.

Some Story arcs were really good. But most of the later arcs felt so unnecessary and fillerish. The story could have moved on to the Sigurd arc without any of these later arcs. It felt like an actual chore to play-through the story in the 2nd half.

Also the ending felt so lacking that I didn't even realize that it was supposed to be the end.

The game has a really good OST but it is so under-used and miss-used. Story raid music for example where Einar selvik's osts start to play are so good but they are added so quietly that you can barely hear them in the raid.

I just wish the story would have been only half as long. That would have made the game a much better experience.

I'm glad that I'm done with the game.

The skill upgrade system is convoluted and the skills themselves are boring.

Valhalla has great campaign story, really long campaign lenght by the way even though is shorter in map size and less "RPG" than Odyssey for example. Story is interesting and has some very well developed characters (Eivor being the best)

In Valhalla, Ubisoft removed the grindy mechanics found in previous games (Origins and Odyssey) and brought back some of the good old stealth that made the series famous. There are some story arcs in the major cities that brought back ACII vibes, and it's really well done.

England's landscape is a delight. Green pastures, forests, swamps everything is nicely done.

Now for the bad parts: Game has some visual bugs (I played on PC on ultra), flickering, bugs where characters go under the ground, npcs running to the wall (enemies included), a very annoying bug when you load and your characters becomes drunk (also happens when you die and respawn which is even more annoying), I also had some crashes, all the crashes happened during quests, so once again, really really annoying. Fortunately, I didn't have game breaking bugs.

NPCs face models is really terrible, if you played the previous games you already know, it's the same engine so no enhancements, all npcs look terrible expect for the major one (3 or 4) and Eivor that is really well made.
Game has some 1999 fire effects it's ridiculous. Unbelievable, because water effects are so, so good and fire effects sucks. The major problem is that you interact a lot with fire during gameplay so it's really concerning.
Enemy AI still bad, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
Microtransactions. I can't say much because I didn't even open the store during my gameplay, you don't really need to and you don't feel compelled to, at least I didn't. From what I see in microtransactions store you'll find, clothing, weapons, mounts, exp boost, etc.
Like I said, it didn't bother me because I didn't feel the need to use, but microtransactions in a single player game is always bad, so that's a no-no.

Ubisoft will probably change engine for the next trilogy (as this one is most likely finished). If they fix those bad parts IMO (characters face models, AI, etc) the next Assassin's Creed might be even greater than this one, which is totally possible.

Barely any story, and the settlement-making aspect is not enough to make up for the fact that not much else is new. The story itself was short and empty, watching our character go from the typical AC childhood to adult, but this time in about 2 minutes flat. The game crashes every 5 minutes. It's literally unplayable for me, and from what I've read, I'm not alone. You can't mark anything with your raven, hitting a crate to loot it is more difficult than actual combat - and these are all issues from playing for only half an hour before my game crashed for the first time. Now it crashes every 5 minutes.

It is extremely obvious they rushed this out to market before Cyberpunk released. Ubisoft is known for releasing rushed, buggy games, but this - this makes all previous Ubi games look like polished diamonds. I'll echo something I've seen others say as well: with the graphics, story, and polish, Valhalla looks like it came out of 2010. Calling it mediocre would be a compliment - hell, I wish I could play long enough to come to that conclusion.

TL;DR: Even almost a month after release, the game is unplayable, and what *is* playable is extremely disappointing. I would get a refund if Ubisoft's refund policy didn't exclude games "that have been launched", and everyone who has ever played an Ubisoft game on launch day knows that's insanity.

Cities and people both wont give me the feeling of a living world like witcher 3 did (especially in novigrad and smaller villages where people have conversations and react to the player aswell. And this is most important for me in open world rpgs. The world needs to bring the living world feeling.

Parcour is frustrating for ages now. Stealth has been implemented and is useless too since we wont get any rewards for going stealth and its also frustrating because the detection speed is nuts and broken since sometimes you get caught sneaking around while behind cover which destroys immersion. At the end u just slaughter around anyway.

Story telling is a bit better than in previous games but still not immersive enough. Some cut scenes are cringe and not even necessary. Even in the main missions.

Gear and skillsystem is boring and doesnt give me anything special that makes me feel okay i choose the raven path. you will skill everything anyway so why 3 different paths at all?

100000000 questionsmarks. some of them side events some of them collecting stuff, bandit and animal camps as always and so on.

Modern day still not important in the game sadly.

Immersion breaking bugs and mechanics like getting attacked while following npcs in questlines, getting stuck in haystacks when doing a leap of faith and crashes inclusive.

4 game freezes in the past 24 hours, a bugged romance quest that has been highlighted to the developers for over a month with no fix along with numerous other open world bugs certainly takes the shine off however. The exploration can become very repetitive

4 game freezes in the past 24 hours, a bugged romance quest that has been highlighted to the developers for over a month with no fix along with numerous other open world bugs certainly takes the shine off however.

The exploration can become very repetitive - find house, find crack in wall, shoot lock from door, enter house, find chest, repeat. This certainly takes away from the immersion when you are in the middle of a raid/battle and have to take a quick pause to solve a mini "puzzle". These puzzles being trickier and less frequent would have been welcomed, stick to kicking doors off during raids and battles and leave the puzzles for sneak elements of the game.

Visiting establishments outside of quests feels quite empty and hollow, further the game has taken the realistic approach to England for the time period (small wood and dirt establishments with the occasional impressive cathedral). The usual ubisoft coins & helix credit cash grab are present.

Suggest waiting for the price to drop and patches to be released.

Mysteries wont show what you should do. And they really worked on hiding things like a chest. They hid very well so players cant find. First raids are good but when you reach 40 hours in the game you figured out that is same thing.

To be honest they made some skeleton to game and copied every single thing in the game.

Except for some exceptions, the game does not really try to tell us who the vikings were, like the history channels' TV show as a good example in that sense. The story itself takes place in what is today England and the protagonist is not really a true viking, but more of a member of a secret order for (modern) liberalism and tolerance. The vikings saw the Christians as their Ragnarök, and those Christians -were- their Apocalypse, they brought an end of their pagan culture, with the help of the cross and the sword. Some modern Norwegians have rebelled against this act of erasing the Native Norwegian pagan culture, it even got expressed in arts and music, in the black metal scene for example. Ubisoft are pretending to represent a part of history, but they are legitimizing only a flat view of it, players who only play this game would not learn a lot about viking history, or what Valhalla could mean for these warriors. Tread lightly ! Expand

Also it seems like every character is based on the facial motion tracking of Mark Zuckerberg thats how much emotions there are in their facial expressions. But all that was not a killer for me. What made this game so boring I stopped playing it after 23h was the fighting system. It is so dynamic and thrilling you could almost mistaken it for minecrafts fighting system. While playing Valhalla I was wondering about the same thing while I was playing any of the previous parts - how can you release 12 games, remaster 5 of them, with core gameplay as a parkour-like terrain traversing, all while being an AAA game developer, and fail at it every single time. Also, if I remember correctly, horse riding was in all previous series and it's still the worst horseWhile playing Valhalla I was wondering about the same thing while I was playing any of the previous parts - how can you release 12 games, remaster 5 of them, with core gameplay as a parkour-like terrain traversing, all while being an AAA game developer, and fail at it every single time. Gameplay-wise - comparing to Oddysey (since this is basically the same game - Ubisoft is a master of game mechanics recycling) it has all annoying things but has been stripped of fun elements. Character is a block of wood - running like in a dream - fully engaged pressing forward, but moving like in a jar of honey where your enemy can slowly and gently, but at a similar speed, move backward while aiming at you with a bow. Exploration is always the same - run/ride for a minute or two, and do one of few things - throw a jar of oil, shoot door barricade from the window behind or go through the opening in the top of the building. Oh, don't forget to enter a well to collect the key. In Oddysey world was at least interesting - here we have two ruins of colosseums, two models of churches, and other generic ruins. All repetitive and boring. It is also no longer an RPG. If you have preferred alignment you basically stay with the same gear from the beginning to the end since there are so few weapons and armors. And it also doesn't matter which one you choose, they all have similar stats. This game is now a kind of barbie doll house - you complete tasks and gather resources to buy new hair, or decorate your village and boat. Nothing else. Fighting can be brute-forced, assassinations are useless, stealth is kept only for sake of naming the game "Assasin's Creed". The new thing - raids are fun but only for the first three times - later they are extremely repetitive.
The story is unfinished (like in every other game nowadays) - after the "main character arc", both assassin creed and england conquer arcs are closed as fast as possible, with a lot of plot holes. It really feels like the team didn't had time to think about a proper ending.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a great fan of the Assassin's Creed series and I have played every entry on PC. I enjoyed this game a lot with me spending 100+ hours on the campaign and still not completing the game 100% as I opted not bothering with the dream sequence storyline.
The game starts very slow and I was really worried in the beginning, but once you move to England the pace picks up. There are stuff to do, there are interesting side missions, interesting choices to make that will affect the ending and as always mixing the fantasy aspects of any AC game with real historical events is one of the great positive points of the game.
There a re only two negatives on the game in my opinion
Graphics: While not bad by any means, I can't see any real progress made compared with AC Odyssey.
Modern day assassins: The three characters that dive into Eivor's memories are... bland and forgettable

I simply enjoyed exploring the beautiful and vast worlds of ancient Egypt and Greece. Well, plus / minus the stories were not bad, albeit they were simple. And now we have Valhalla... beautiful graphics? Yes, there is, but it's already 2023, so it should already be just norm. Music? Yes, it's just yes. Story? It is on about the same level as the previous ones, but a little more interesting. There are also a lot of side quests, but almost all of them are five minutes long.
Now about what I didn’t like, and what made me quit the game, after a certain point:
A lot of small bugs... ugly and uneven animations... disastrously stupid AI of enemies... Catastrophically disgusting and hacky DLCs... transformation of authenticity into a donation dump of hundreds of tasteless and unnecessary items for the Vikings era... constant changes by the company of various interesting things which were found in the game by the players (as soon as something appears on YouTube, it is deleted by the company).
But the strongest rejection for me personally was the combination of the terrible appearance of the map and the stub of the "scanning eye" with the fact that these maps are simply incredibly huge. I suddenly realized that I didn't want to explore this World IN THIS way. I don't want to spend SO much time on this using a very unpleasant scanner tool that worked fine before in Origins and Odyssey.
For me personally, they killed the franchise with their Valhalla game. Rest in peace Assassin's Creed.

Единственное, что было приятно - пейзажи и атмосфера порожденная сеттингом.Финальная часть трилогии после которой я надеюсь последует серия из чего-то нового (или даже старого) в серии, т.к. новый геймплей и в принципе вектор, который был выбран студией абсолютно отторгает. pros: beautiful game if you play it at ultra-high settings
the gameplay is fun and easy to understand
    awesome game
cons: impossible to play assassin's creed odyssey now
    PS4 version looks garbage

takes wayyy too long to finish and the ending is not worth it.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a fun viking game but a weak/middling assassin's creed game since a lot of the features prioritise open combat over stealth, taking the Assassin's Creed name off of Valhalla is a surefire way to get more enjoyment out of the game

I wanted to try with the free trial, long time fan of AC franchise.
Did not play Od as it was similar to Origins ( which I enjoyed but it is not an assassin game anymore)
Tho the reason why this game has 1 rating. Is that they still do not have the unbelievable common sense to allow SKIP Cinematic. How despicable. This game also keeps restarting instantly when you save settings

This game also keeps restarting instantly when you save settings without asking. So it repeats every time you adjust ( 6 times last 20 min and still intro scene.)
There is no real way to make this game look good beside on high otherwise it all looks kind of blurry and disturbing in a odd way, changing monitor did not work. ( HDR)
I just cannot believe this trash. SItting in front of something I could not care less for 20 min already and I am just walking and nothing else.
This is beyond stupidity I do not get it.
If you dont care for story like most do and just want to play a viking game, then you are F and do not buy.
THis game has over 3 hours of unskippable garbage.

Overall a fun game, with beautiful gameplay and really good graphics if it was not for one HUGE problem: the story is PURE WOKE.

I really appreciate the idea of treating the story of viking invasion of England, but all the elements which were added together with it have absolutely no logical tie with history, to the point of sometimes being ridicolous: let's start from the first problem: the idea of pairing Normans with Assassin Creed's narrative -thereby being anti-templar and anti-christianism- is so against historical truth to the point of ludicrousness.

Viking's original religion was in no way a bad copy of the Mujaheeddins, in fact the whole idea that vikings believed that they were fighting to be the best warriors in order to ascend to the Walls of Allah (Wall-Allah or Valhalla) has no logical tie with history : pre-christian Scandinavians believed that fire was the spirit of divine and by the time that they were invading England, the Norwegians had become the Normans thanks to French influence, hence adopted Christianism as their religion and latin as their tongue. I would expect that from a French software house this would be a very much known things, but as it seems wether France has forgotten its history or no-one inside this company is effectively French.

The only vikings who did believe in Valhalla were those enslaved by saracinians and working for them as pirates in the mediterranean.

Had one read even the most vague book of history, he would know that one of the greatest kings of the Norman-English kingdom in fact later on led the crusades PRECISELY WITH THE TEMPLARS, his name was Richard the Lionheart.

So the entire script behind this game looks like an attempt from really non-french and non-european people to cancel European culture.

The reasons why I am awarding this a 7, still, are purely in order to award the visible effort of non-politicised developers who worked hard to bring very good graphics, music and a very solid and fun gameplay, otherwise the storyline itself could be simply thrown in the trash like the entire Assassin Creed saga.

Please bring back REALLY French narrative and not this protestant/woke/leftist/nazi-like ridicolous stuff in Ubisoft. Thank you.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a great-looking open-world game with impressive landscapes and cinematography. However, the checklist collectible open-world still needs some work to feel truly engaging, and combat is too tedious and too frequent to be compelling. As a lapsed fan of Assassin's Creed trying to see if I can click with the series once again, Valhalla didn't quite hook me as I was hoping it would.

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a lot of fun and easy to sink dozens of hours into. It is the best entry in the more recent trilogy and genuinely elevates the gameplay mechanics. Content could be considered somewhat bloated still, but it is diverse enough and the setting and story is solid most of the way through.

Sneaking is fun, fighting is fun, walking through the great outdoors is so much fun. Sightseeing too! Valhalla is free minded and could be innovative, but lacks skills to persuade its players about that. [Issue#308]
