Mediocre open world with little in the way of reasons to explore it. Mechanically rather uninteresting though the plot is decent enough to push through the hack and slash combat.

pros: beautiful game if you play it at ultra-high settings
the gameplay is fun and easy to understand
    awesome game
cons: impossible to play assassin's creed odyssey now
    PS4 version looks garbage

takes wayyy too long to finish and the ending is not worth it.

At first i was blown away, it was so good and fun and refreshing. But the excitement from the well made prologue slowly withers away and once you start doing some of the content over and over again, you will find yourself bored.

Assassins - i don't know why are they even there anymore, it feels forced and unnecessary.
The last part of the game which will last you between 1-2 hours is great but i do not feel like it was worth it.
It's a step down from AC Oddysey in many ways, which should not happen but i rate it a little better.

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla seems so worried about disrespecting your money that it will instead flagrantly disrespect your time. Needs the middle 20-30 hours chopped out of it.

A glitchy game with a beautiful open world, combat that becomes pretty boring and tedious, and a great story that ends up being really anticlimactic. It is a pretty decent game that had the potential to be one of the greatest games I've ever played.

"1 step forward, 2 steps back"

I'll start by saying like most newly released AAA titles this game is full of bugs. So much so that it is very noticeable and will impact how much you enjoy the game. Looking past this though this is another decent Assassins Creed experience that will provide over 80 hours of content. However, if you enjoyed the previous two titles Origins and Odyssey then this game is going to feel like a downgrade in many ways.

Some returning features or new features that the game has included are assassinating bosses, kill conversations, speech checks, mini-games, dual-wielding different weapons, and raiding. Some of these are very welcome additions that make the game feel fresh. Some removed features or features I wish didn't return are killing civilians will desynchronize you instead of increase your bounty, no bounty system, reduced gear/weapon system, less gear variety/customization, combat is very janky, only one finisher animation per weapon, AI is considerably worse than previous titles, stat tree forces you to grab stats you don't want to get the ones you do want, and gear acquired in some locations cannot be kept when returning to the normal area.

The setting of the game is very interesting and I was hoping for another amazing experience like in Origins and Odyssey (post-launch) but it's clear that the developers were trying to mix both the old and new Assassin's Creed games together in Valhalla. Sadly this meant removing much of what made the new games extremely fun and replacing it with dated mechanics. If I had to sum the game up in one sentence it's "1 step forward, 2 steps back".

Valhalla is a mixed of Origins and Odyssey , but all the mistakes of these two games are in . The Pillage and attack of fortress are too little, and to repetitive and all the outpost are the same .
If Odyssey was really good with writing Valhalla is a deception .
I almost finished the game so my Review may be better than others , if you love odyssey i don't recommend to play this one but if you love Origins go for it . I hope that the Dlc's and mostly the Paris siege are going to blow my mine .

The exploration can become very repetitive - find house, find crack in wall, shoot lock from door, enter house, find chest, repeat. This certainly takes away from the immersion when you are in the middle of a raid/battle and have to take a quick pause to solve a mini "puzzle". These puzzles being trickier and less frequent would have been welcomed, stick to kicking doors off during raids and battles and leave the puzzles for sneak elements of the game.

Visiting establishments outside of quests feels quite empty and hollow, further the game has taken the realistic approach to England for the time period (small wood and dirt establishments with the occasional impressive cathedral). The usual ubisoft coins & helix credit cash grab are present.

Suggest waiting for the price to drop and patches to be released.

Except for some exceptions, the game does not really try to tell us who the vikings were, like the history channels' TV show as a good example in that sense. The story itself takes place in what is today England and the protagonist is not really a true viking, but more of a member of a secret order for (modern) liberalism and tolerance. The vikings saw the Christians as their Ragnarök, and those Christians -were- their Apocalypse, they brought an end of their pagan culture, with the help of the cross and the sword. Some modern Norwegians have rebelled against this act of erasing the Native Norwegian pagan culture, it even got expressed in arts and music, in the black metal scene for example. Ubisoft are pretending to represent a part of history, but they are legitimizing only a flat view of it, players who only play this game would not learn a lot about viking history, or what Valhalla could mean for these warriors. It altogether feels very bland and uninteresting. I will say the character detail, and armor/clothing customization and upgrading system is excellent. I just wish there was more choices of sets compared to odyssey where you could have 30+ entirely unique outfits. Onto the story of Valhalla: it’s not good. You have essentially no choice in various outcomes that Ubisoft makes you think matter. The entire arc as a whole is just so unbelievably dry and devoid of flavor. The romance options feel very forced, and like I said, in many cases no matter what decisions you make the game already has a predetermined outcome. I wanted to love this game, Origins was just a glimpse into the masterpiece that was Odyssey, and I hoped Valhalla would go even further, but it didn’t. ASSASSIN'S CREED VALHALLA is a beautiful looking game that suffers from possibly the worst controls in gaming history, the incompatibility of the ASSASSIN'S CREED series and too much excess baggage. Let me explain:

ASSASSIN'S CREED VALHALLA is a beautiful looking game that suffers from possibly the worst controls in gaming history, the incompatibility of the ASSASSIN'S CREED series and too much excess baggage. Let me explain:
Firstly the CONTROLS: Eivor (player character can either be male or female) controls like a fully loaded Mack truck hauling 3 equally loaded trailers driven by a drunk. But somehow we are supposed to believe that s/he can gracefully scale walls the best ninja wouldn't be able to? Combat is clunky and unresponsive, but the worst offender is the climbing mechanic: shift utilizes an UNintelligent system where the AI assumes what you wish to do - which at least in my case was wrong 95% of the time. Trying to climb down something or getting off something has a 90-10 chance of success. The controls are atrocious! Whoever came up with these should be flayed alive. Add the console-friendly menus to the mix and embrace the suck.
Second issue: IDENTITY CRISIS. The latest ASSASSIN'S CREED games, ORIGINS, ODYSSEY and VALHALLA (probably the preceding ones, too, but I haven't played them) suffer from an identity problem, that is ASSASSIN'S CREED itself. While the original lore of assassins versus Templars draws form the Crusades, the later games' attempt to justify the excursions into Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and per-medieval Viking Age falls flat on its face and is totally unbelievable and outright ridiculous. The ASSASSIN's CREED game mechanics also don't work with the setting itself, a Viking using stealth?! It just doesn't mesh. The last 3 ASSASSIN'S CREED games should not have the AC name and should ditch all AC elements.
Third: EXCESS BAGGAGE: Ubisoft, drop the present timeline with Layla Hassan and the Animus already!!! It's immersion breaking (a deathblow to any Open World game!), the character is annoying and uninteresting. I always skip her dialogues and hit the Animus as soon as the game lets me, which at the first interruption works relatively fast, but later you need to do some quests. Ditch this, or at least let us decide if we want to have this or not (like the gender selection at the beginning it could be an option). There are also lots of annoying cutscenes that drag on which cannot be skipped and a lot of filler content that is just bloating.
There are also several bugs (many MANY crashes, synchronization issues with the forced use of the Ubisoft Connect Program), even over half a year after the game's release. At times my long boat would flip over and become unmaneuverable until I quit out and reloaded the game. Couple that with horrendously long load times and you can imagine how much fun that was.
When the game works properly and you've made it past the annoying cutscenes and Layla sequence and reach England, VALHALLA shines: it is one of the most beautiful looking Open Worlds, hands down. You can get some mileage out of it simply by exploring the vast area. Sailing down the rivers while mist engulfs you is just pure atmosphere and makes you feel like in the movie The 13th Warrior.
I also like the branching skill tree a lot - not overly complex but not too simple either, which allow different play styles (full out assault, bows or stealth assassinations) or mix them to your heart's content.
Unfortunately after a while repetition sets in. And grinding. The world is divided in Power Levels (you gain Power Levels by upgrading your gear and weapons and by investing in the skill tree). However some neighboring regions have such a steep rise in Power Level that hours of grinding and collecting ore, ingots and leather becomes mandatory. Many game mechanics that start out to be fun (raids) soon become tedious and repetitive as well. And once you've uncovered the entire map there's little to keep you playing on. The missions are not very varied either, ranging from fetch quests (a lot of them) to assassinations.
Overall VALHALLA is the best looking AC game with beautiful locations and vistas to behold, but it offers too little innovations to be compelling in the long run - let's face it, Ubisoft has been making the same game over and over and over again with ROGUE, UNITY, SYNDICATE, ORIGINS, ODYSSEY and now with VALHALLA, it just comes with a different paint job. Also Eivor (either gender) is a very bland character compared to ODYSSEY's Kassandra. It's just slightly above average and the fun factor is like a roller coaster ride with ups and downs and unfortunately more downs than ups, especially if you played previous entries in the series.
Oh, and then there's the overly long load times that don't seem to be justified. Also at each startup of the game you are informed about how this game was created by a team of ultra-woke loons of many genders, faiths and nationalities - yes, the cringe-worthy screen greets you every time you start the game and takes a chunk out of your time as well.

The "collectables" flung across the map in uninteresting locations are an excellent touch to the dull design. The combat system is not garbage but it is not at all good. Enemies can spam all abilities while you are left to kite them around until you get enough stamina to do a single hit then kite them around some more. The stealth is pointless and horribly done for an Assassin's Creed game, there is not corner hiding at all, no ducking under cover but they added gore. The only thing it seems Ubisoft focused on was accessibility features. Menu narration, have no idea why that is a feature, text size, among other frivolous features that really add nothing and seem to have been the studios focus. The story is near non existent, you can just skip the entire thing and kill whoever with no lead up at all. No worth while investigation, no getting to know the citizens of the area and helping them out for the greater good, its so far from what the series used to be it shouldn't even be Assassin's Creed. This game is a monument of a lazy development team that just shovel what ever they can out into their fanbase and hope the mindless masses buy it. The music is good when it plays, that rarely happens, even with the music frequency maxed out. Pure waste of potential with this game. As in Odyssey, buildings and parkour is absolutely shunned in-favor of the combat system. Don't mistake me, combat in the modern games is quite fun, but it's not what should be leaned on in a game about assassination, or at least supposed to be...
Aside from this, it is a decent game as a modern Lite-RPG Hell-scape. The story and quests are slightly padded but overall does not entirely overstay it's welcome.

The Wrath of the Druids DLC is better than the base game, but not by much. I wouldn't recommend the DLC if you don't like the base game.
The Siege of Paris (DLC) dragged on to little benefit, truly strengthened my distaste for the game as a whole. Recommend playing it before Druids so you have a decent taste in your mouth on finishing.

The textures in this game look mostly the same as Odyssey. Their is slight improvements to the character modals and of course some aspects do look nicer. But the textures overall haven't improved much at all.
I feel like way to much remains unchanged and that isn't a good thing when spending £60 on a new game. Ubisoft need to stop over working their devs and give them more time to give us a mind blowing experience when we buy a new AC game. I don't wanna pick up a new title and be able to compare them side by side seeing what's new and what isn't. When you compare the original AC games apart its like night and day but now comparing Odyssey to Valhalla is like 12pm to 3pm.

The horse riding in this game feels like something I would have expected 10 years ago. Even the 1st Red Dead Redemption game had better horse riding. The horses feel like they are imported from a car game and then a horse texture has been applied.
Certain textures in the game have a really low resolution and then others look amazing? Like the pin on character modals, Snow, smoke, horses... They all look out of place.

The map in this game makes Odyssey look like a complete planet. Its tiny. At 1st I thought I was just on the tutorial map. Nope that is the map. Like I said if you give the developers more time then they would be able to give us more content. Maps are supposed to get bigger not 1 third of the size. Well if the map is smaller then it must be packed full of content right? WRONG! Some things in this game just felt long and dragged out and didn't drive anything forward. Just unnecessary filler content that felt like just another thing to do and I just wanted to skip over it.

The monetization in this game sucks as well. I feel like Ubisoft are just creaming the series at this point. You can basically buy everything in this game for cash including weapons and XP. When I see that in a game I know not to expect much from it. That's when they no longer care about the games integrity and they are squeezing every last drop out of it and it really shows in the gameplay.
Randomly when I was playing the game, after the tutorial I was given loads of OP items out of no where? I think its cos I was playing the Ubisoft+ version but still things like this ruin the game as its not the way its supposed to be played.

Ubisoft just overall aren't the best place to get games from. I try not to be bias with the stuff I have read the company online. With all their good games they end up killing them with monetization and over saturating the market by releasing a new one every 5 minutes.

I am not saying this game is terrible thou. It just gets ruined by the publisher rinsing it for easy money. The story is overall quite good. Some of the side objectives are fun, like this dice game for example. The combat overall is fluent although unchanged from the previous game, although more healing supplies would be nice. At times I was running round like an idiot looking for health items. I believe this game would have lived up to expectations if it was given more time and wasn't ruined with buyable weapons, armor and XP. I hope Ubisoft gets brought out by a better company.

Too long and boring and feels nothing like an Assassin's Creed game this should have been a game set in the Assassin's Creed world and not a mainline game

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a great-looking open-world game with impressive landscapes and cinematography. However, the checklist collectible open-world still needs some work to feel truly engaging, and combat is too tedious and too frequent to be compelling. As a lapsed fan of Assassin's Creed trying to see if I can click with the series once again, Valhalla didn't quite hook me as I was hoping it would.

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a lot of fun and easy to sink dozens of hours into. It is the best entry in the more recent trilogy and genuinely elevates the gameplay mechanics. Content could be considered somewhat bloated still, but it is diverse enough and the setting and story is solid most of the way through.

Sneaking is fun, fighting is fun, walking through the great outdoors is so much fun. Sightseeing too! Valhalla is free minded and could be innovative, but lacks skills to persuade its players about that. [Issue#308]
