While it stumbles greatly in execution, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla - Dawn of Ragnarök reignites the magic of the main game with a vast realm to explore and myriad secrets to discover using the new Hugr powers. It’s still a ton of fun, just don’t expect the story to be all that coherent.

Dawn of Ragnarök could have given us new items in shops, different resources to gather and craft with (though you can upgrade gear to a new tier, which is a nice addition) and more fun with its economy. And while there are differences to what we’ve already played through in the base game and its other two expansions, they don’t make the experience different enough. That said, however, the story here can’t be faulted, nor the treatment of the sagas and history of the Vikings and Norse myth, which is Dawn of Ragnarök’s best element.

With Dawn of Ragnarok, Ubisoft has finished the Assassin's Creed Valhalla-arc, and it does so with style. Players can explore a huge new world and use new powers, which add a whole new layer to the gameplay. Besides the storyline there is plenty to do in Svartalfheim. The world does feel a bit repetitive at times and the price tag of the DLC is a bit high, but for fans of Valhalla, Dawn of Ragnarok is certainly worth it.

Dawn of Ragnarok carries forward the post-launch support of Assassin's Creed Valhalla in an unprecedented way, with an apparently rich expansion that can be completed pretty quickly by focusing on the main missions. However, there's another thing: by tackling the package as an endgame content you'll be too powerful to give the right space to the new powers.

Dawn of Ragnarok is a bit shallow and nothing more of a “more of the same”. Still a decent content for the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla fans, but it could have been much more.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok is solid, but doesn't break its original format. The open world and quest logic hasn't changed much, but there are little innovations in the combat and stealth systems.

Dawn Of Ragnarok is an extremely ambitious expansion that could be categorized as a stand-alone game. With a significant playtime that fluctuates between some very funny and somewhat tedious, the gameplay can be very unique and immersive.

If you sill want more Valhalla, Dawn of Ragnarok is perfect for you. It brings new fantasy world, new enemies, but mostly same gameplay.

Dawn of Ragnarök outlines a new era for Valhalla. This DLC brings relevant and consistent novelties that really change the gameplay. Add to that an engaging epic narrative, a spellbinding new world, and a healthy dose of Norse mythology, and you have the best expansion Eivor has ever seen. Ubisoft had a nose in betting on the power of Odin and Nordic myths. However, we would have just liked a little more scope to enjoy a mythological epic worthy of Valhalla.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok is a solid expansion that introduces some interesting gameplay mechanics and plenty of new content that, at the end of the day, doesn't change how the game is played in a significant way. After a long base game and two expansions, Dawn of Ragnarok definitely needed to be something more to become an essential purchase, as only those who haven't had enough of Assassin's Creed Valhalla will fully appreciate the coming of Ragnarok and the end of an age.

In terms of its size Dawn of Ragnarok is a full-fledged, traditional expansion we used to see back in the day rather than a typical modern DLC. It offers a surprisingly good story but the mythological setting didn’t bring any substantial changes to the gameplay. It’s just more of Valhalla and while I enjoyed the base game I’ve simply had enough of Vikings by now.

While Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok has some brilliant ideas, it's far from the epic expansion that you'd want it to be. It's hampered by reused mechanics and a story that's woefully disconnected from your main character's arc.

  1. For the most part, though, Dawn Of Ragnarök is more of the AC Valhalla you like: more boating around singing, more armour, more raids (in which I kept getting referred to as Eivor but we'll let that one go). More NPCs with UK regional accents. More sub-bosses for different areas, leading you towards a big boss. A big new weapon and new, grim ways to instakill enemies. It's not game changing but it does feel game subtly-altering, and if you had to get one Valhalla DLC it should be this one. I think the best endorsement of Dawn Of Ragnarök is that it's fun, and it made me want to play Valhalla more. Job done.

Thank you Ubisoft for releasing another fun, entertaining video game, that doesn't have bosses that take 7 hours to beat. While otherThank you Ubisoft for releasing another fun, entertaining video game, that doesn't have bosses that take 7 hours to beat. While other companies release just boring, outdated games (Horizon, Dying Light 2, Elden Ring), i knew i could rely on Ubisoft releasing something that is actually fun to play. Some whiners say all the time "huh Ubisoft should learn from other companies" ummm no. It's the other way around. Other companies should learn from Ubisoft, how to make actually fun games. Great, fun game as expected, youtubers keep hating it, just like they did with Valhalla, but that's just how it is now. Every new Ubisoft gameGreat, fun game as expected, youtubers keep hating it, just like they did with Valhalla, but that's just how it is now. Every new Ubisoft game will be sht on by youtubers until 2030, because they just can't help themselves. They wont stop hating until Ubisoft goes back to AC 1 style, but thankfully that will never happen. If it was up to me, i think they should go back to something that would be combination of Black Flag story/combat and Unity parkour. But i take Valhalla and Dawn of Ragnarok any day over AC 1. You shouldn't care at all what some youtubers think, you should decide what you like. Valhalla was great and this is also solid, best out of all expansions imo. So my advice for AC fans would be - Ignore negative youtubers and enjoy great games, easy. Full Review »

Lmao IGN review is hypocrisy at it's finest. They complain that while story is good, it still feels like Valhalla and they give it 6/10. ButLmao IGN review is hypocrisy at it's finest. They complain that while story is good, it still feels like Valhalla and they give it 6/10. But when Elden Ring feels like Dark Souls 3, then that's completely fine? lmao. Good game, just avoid negative reviews i guess, especially IGN apparently. Full Review »
