Main story missions suggest a certain level you should be on, but reward you with way too little XP when you complete them. This leads to side missions pretty much being mandatory. And they suck. The side missions are really the most boring, repetative missions you could probably ever design. Most of them just consist of a character losing something / someone on the other side of the map. Go there, get it / them and go back. Half an hour spent.

The story itself was pretty mid, but it was just interesting enough to make me do all the side stuff in order to level up.

I can only really recommend this game if you truly liked Origins.

The controls are ok on PC and you can remap the keys which is a blessing.
Story is ok but I still have a lot to do.
Gameplay is very good.. so why only 5 score?

This is a so called "AAA, full price game", a single player game with micro transactions in it (!!!). And this is straight ZERO points from me. The only reason I gave it 5 is because I got it at a lower price and I actually like it.

Dear publishers, just get the **** off with your ****ing MTX's. Leave the single player PC games alone.
If you really want this **** in your games, stick it in consoles, those dummies will pay for anything.

Everything good in this game is utterly overshadowed by a laborious grind. I put in 100 hours only to arrive at a 70th level character that is persistently slain by everything it encounters. There is never any sense of achievement by gaining better skills or gear, as the moment you improve anything, every enemy auto improves too, making the awesome equipment that you laboriously gathered and meticulously improved at considerable cost, a complete waste of time. It's a very expensive game which just makes you grind, grind, grind ... and GRIND! Odyssey continues a revolting Ubisoft trend of actively designing gameplay mechanics that hinder progression and make the game feel artificial and boring in order to incentivize micro-transactions. What, you thought they went the RPG route in the hopes of giving their stagnating franchise a much needed new breath? Please.

Combat feels floaty and disconnected from the characters, less like they're swinging around steel weapons and more like they're play-fighting with styrofoam toys. Every enemy has an inordinately large health bar and staggers very little from your attacks, so interruptions are very recurrent and completely break the flow of the fight. Your best option to avoid said nuisances is (surprise surprise!) to level up faster in order to unlock absurd magical powers and be able to equip better gear, and what better way of doing that than to hand Ubisoft even more money?

On the same vein, level disparities between the player and the enemies lead to ridiculous situations such as enemies surviving being stabbed multiple times through the neck by magical weapons. If you're stubborn (and let's be honest here, also slightly psychotic), you can still fight adversaries several levels above your station by hiding in the tall grass and shooting arrows at their face until they die - it's just gonna take half an hour - A.I. isn't smart enough to find you nor run away, so it's doable.

Don't even get me started on the plot. Several dialogue options and phrases to end conversations are copy-pasted, making the stilted conversations feel even more robotic and emotionless than they already did. Writers couldn't figure out how to tie the plot threads together, so they just didn't, instead leaving the core narratives literally separated into their own progressions and totally incapable of influencing the player or the world at large. Every single conclusion feels detached from your character choices, and the best thing you can hope for is to get one lukewarm cutscene at the end.

I could spend literal hours complaining about how little your choices matter in this story, but the game does a pretty good job at that with the Spartan-Athenian battles. You can join one side of the battle, conquer the territory for one the factions, then immediately start to sabotage the victors to trigger a new battle and flip the board again, this time siding with the other guys. Repeat ad-nauseum, like you're Sisyphus himself and this is your personal hell - reliving the same battlefield again and again, switching sides on a whim for identical gear that just happens to give 2% extra fire damage. Neither option matters. Your notoriety doesn't matter. Your wishy-washy allegiance is never questioned or meaningful. You could single-handedly conquer all of Greece in the name of Sparta and the game wouldn't care, acknowledge it or let that affect the plot in any meaningful way. There is no point to your soulless existence.

At least the graphics are nice tho.

If they wanna make a game about a Greek story why just don't they make a brand-new game? It could be about the 300 Spartans against the Persians, but NOOO, they just want to milk their cash cow, Assasins Creed until it is completely dead.

That said, the game gameplay isn't bad, the stealth is just like any other generic AC, which is a good system. The combat is the most different part, now it has an RPG level system and your character has special skills with cooldown, like a fast thrust that deals massive damage to everyone on the way or a single target skill that thrown down an enemy.

The open world is immense but empty. The only thing you have to do is just the same Ubisoft useless collectible and get some new weapons and armors for no purpose at all. The sidequests style is a copy of The Witcher 3.

Something else that i dont like at all is seeing cities so close together, its a huge world but to me it feels like there is too much in it and therefore everything feels really close. Historically speaking Athenes had a 10 km long fortification that connected the port of Pireus, but in this game is all together. Thats why i prefer to fewer locations with realistic distances instead of this game´s world

Large part in the game, you need to hit your enemies hundred times, while they just 2-3 hit you and even dodge doesn't work, if you attack at the same time. Even if you set game to easy, it will take long time to kill your opponents. And if you set game on hard, it won't make it hard: it will make some parts take 30 minutes, or nearly impossible and fights will just take longer time like 15 minutes... Even with legendary items, you don't deal that much damage and you have to grind for best builds, which you won't get early on and in mid game, so low dmg output is still problem for most of the game and you have to find many tablets scattered across whole map, which is basically running simulator and grind for resources... Main story was enjoyable and there were a lot of interesting side quests, although most of the were boring and repetitive. And graphic is beautiful and a lot of locations to explore. There are some interesting places, feels same for the most part, especially when you have to run around same locations a lot! Expand

Sneak attacks which deal like 50% of damage (with PAID weapons from DLC)? Really? What a scam!

The plot is as usual. Some memories of some ancestor who was or was not participating in some events of the deep past.
This time, somehow, all memories are revolving around too-manly women and too-sweet-faced men.
Oh, and add 'LGBT members made this game' loading screen you'll see each time you'll start it. I'm absolutely okay with LGBT and I do know some cool people of this kind but PLEASE STOP STICKING IT INTO MY FACE! It's immoral!

Visuals... are pretty neat. Visuals _are_ what's selling this game. As cool as it could be. Thanks Ubisoft, I guess.

Sound... Game's version for my language cheered me up with mistranslated expressions, Greek words sticked into speech just for some fleur, lack of emotional expression and absolutely inappropriate actor vs character choices.

They need to rethink some of the approaches to game making. Specifically, in the case of this game and other games like this one, I would like to make a couple of points. This game does not quite work for the following reasons: First, there's a bit too much grind, and you cannot escape the ugly feeling of doing too much of the same. Some grind in a game is quite ok, but too much can ruin the game. Second, this is poor implementation of RPG+Open World combination. The game forces you to follow the linear path of the story in an Open World game?!!? How so? Well, if you go astray from the main story line and try to explore the game world away from the main story you cannot, because literally every creature you encounter is too powerful for you. You just end up running away from everyone and everything, in stead of exploring or doing quests. A minute ago, in the main story, I defeated powerful warriors and generals, and the next minute I run from ordinary wolves, boars, and peasants, only because I am in the area I'm not supposed to be in yet, and everyone is couple of levels or more above me. The game doesn't even show you the level of creatures with too high a level. There's only a red skull indicator telling you not to even bother fighting. That's ridiculous, and it defeats the whole Open World concept. RPG could work in the Open World concept, but a few tweaks are necessary. Ordinary creatures and characters everywhere should be less powerful than the game protagonist from the beginning. Only major bosses through the story line should be allowed to be significantly more powerful, and I have to level up or find better gear to be able to defeat them. There could be other tough characters, but I should be able to defeat them right from the beginning, albeit with more difficulty. Next, I don't care how tough an opponent is, three direct hits with a sword or spear should end the fight. If you want to create grind and make certain fights last longer, make blocking or dodging more frequent than hits, depending on the level of opponent of course. I feel silly banging on an opponent for 3 or 4 minutes, with every swipe a direct hit, and my enemy refuses to die because he's level 25, and I am level 22. Next, if you want to make certain areas more difficult than other you can populate it with more enemies, who are more vigilant, and with a few characters who are more powerful than average, but I should still be able to defeat them. Third, make quests more versatile, with variety of interesting tasks. This requires imagination and diligence. Game developers must not be complacent and just keep pumping out the same stuff all the time. They have to get better all the time. Fourth, and this is closely related to the previous point, if you're making a true RPG game that includes dialogues with choices, then you have to make dialogue interesting, engaging, and meaningful. This is a very difficult thing to do, and few RPGs ever have actually succeeded in this. Dialogues are usually tedious, or even dumb, and a waste of time. But games should progress towards true AI. I can't wait for the day when we'll see games writing themselves as you play them, depending on the way you play them, where no one knows what comes next, and how they might end. We're a long way from that, I know, but it could be better than this. Dialogues and choices seem to be of no consequence at all, except for a few key choices, and the level of freedom is actually the same as in the games from 10 or 15 years ago. Expand

I felt that Black Flag was like a last one that actually builds any further story. After Black flag almost none of the further Assasins were changing the game mechanics - all the time the same(small changes), all the time from the start. Moreover the way the story is told in Assasins is a bit clamsy. Repeatable story, stiff dialogs, so I gave up with the series.

Than I have heared that "latest"(Origins, Odyssey) Assasins have changed the gameplay mechanics, so I decided to give it a try. I haven't finished the game yet, but I made like 25 hours in the Odyssey and I can say some words about it.
    Pros:
    - We have skills both for the close-combat weapons(sword, etc.) and a range weapon(bow).
    - We have a big, beautiful world with islands
    - The world is divided into zones ment for specific lvls
    - We have "ships module" from previous games, adjusted to the timeframe. (bows, instead cannons, etc)
    - We have a visual branch of people to kill, and when you kill them, you get tokens for upgrades, it's a nice mechanics.
    - You don't get desynchronized when you kill NPCs, instead your crime meter rises and you're being hunted while still having a chance to survive(and kill the hunters for rewards).
    - RPG mechanics is a breath of fresh air in this game, you have lvls, upgradeable skills, equipable items
    - The combat is quite good, avoids, blocks.
    - We have army vs army mode, where you can support one of the side and for the win you get items

    Cons:
    - The story - as it is another assisn... I cannot unite with my character, I just don't feel it, the character is not a part of something big and every next assasin game is made for no reason, how many times can we go thorugh the game with the same background? If the game wasn't assasin, this could be all different.
    - The lvl scalling - This part pains me the same as the story one - the world lvl is scaled up to your lvl, the zone you're in cannot be lower than you -4 lvls, so basically all you do in the game, all the upgrades you make, you feel all the time like you don't progress at all, as you deal the same dmg oveer and over, the skills dmg doesn't really change much too.
    - Even though we have ships, it doesn't feel that good like in Black Flag. You just sail to another island, because there is a quest... and I don't feel like fighting other ships, because even when you get resources for upgrades, still there is lvl scalling or stronger enemies and you do the same dmg all over again.
    - Even though we have a big world, the world is empty, I mean it's filled with a lot of boring repeating quests like: go-and-kill, open chest, find a piece of paper, clear a cave, that don't bring anything to the story and the bonuses(exp) you get, etc. is getting "lost" due to lvl scalling.
    - The "synchronizing towers", srsly? again? Just to unlock fast-travel? And a flying eagle effect for 10 seconds?
    - You get slots for skills over time. You get 4 per-weapon in the beginning, than you get more. Some may like it, but I didn't feel good with being limited to 4 skills, when I had bought 12, because in that part of the game, I could spare only 1point per skill.
    - Opening menus animations are annoying for me, even though the UI looks nice and intuitive, they take too long (3secs to open),
    - The map tab and quests tab should be somehow combined together, because switching between it, checking where the quest is, going back is just not handy.
    - "Heart" dialogs, we can have sex, but whatever, when you don't feel the character you play.
    - Items lvls - each item has its lvl, which can be increased to the lvl of your character, no matter what rarity type is the weapon, so if you are stubborn you can loot one piece of crap and upgrade it through the whole game - the dmg doesn't count anyway, due to scalling.
    - Even though the combat system is quite good, the opponents moves are repeatable, the enemies are repeatable, which just don't fit to such big world.

To summarize, the game is playable. It is even exiting for the first 20 hours, than you get border or repeating things and a lack of progressing. Dear Ubisoft if you read it, please close the series, call your game something else, change the background, maybe at least I won't be so negative about starting another piece of tapeworm and having the stiff story I can't relate to, because I'll have another game in the series with completly different characters. (Unlike AC II) Also please decrease the world size, or at least please fill it with more valuable unqiue content, like quests with unique stories - you can take an example from The Witcher 3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    Nota Geral: 5/10

    ---> Pontos positivos:
    - gráficos do ambiente
    - fidelidade ao mundo grego antigo. Embora seja uma obra de ficção, o jogo se esforçou em apresentar a cultura grega o mais próximo possível do que realmente foi (baseado nos registros que foram preservados)

    ---> Pontos negativos:
    - Voice acting irregular. Em alguns momentos a "dublagem" era realista e passava emoção aos personagens, em outros momentos não representava adequadamente as emoções que o personagem deveria apresentar. Ex: personagem deveria estar puto e falava com uma voz neutra
    - Censura incoerente. O jogo é classificado como "mature", ou seja, 17 anos ou mais, porém em alguns pontos trata o jogador como uma criança de 10 anos. Ex: Protagonista eviscera um NPC adversário enfiando a lança na bunda e a corta até o pescoço (ok, mature game); por outro lado, não tem uma cena de nudez no jogo inteiro, o que é incoerente com o período retratado e com a faixa etária. Nem no puteiro, as pessoas ficam peladas.
    - Romance. Os romances no jogo são hiper genéricos e não captam um desenvolvimento emocional do protagonista. Todos os romances seguem a fórmula: encontra o NPC, faz um trabalho/favor para ele, recebe em "sexo". PS: Isso se pode chamar de sexo, pq a cena é cortada e volta ao gameplay normal.
    - Leveling. Se você não conseguem progredir na main story, se não fizer as sidequests. A diferença de nível é um problema no jogo, assim se o mapa está no nível 30, vc tem que estar no nível 29 pelo menos. E, chega um determinado momento do jogo que você tem que fazer sidequests apenas para "upar" de nível para seguir na main quest. Patético, quer fazer o player comprar "burst" de XP.
    - Sidequests são rasas e repetitivas
    - Opções de diálogo. Muitas opções são: ou falsas (independente do que você escolher, o resultado será o mesmo); ou são indiferentes (se você mata ou poupa os inimigos, nada muda)

A step back after Origins. The game is ok, but the plot is not very intersting, the gameplay gets repetitive soon and many missions like the battles or the naval parts are fun at first because they add nothing to the experience.
Also, the gameplay is not particulary interesting or deep, but still, the graphics and sound desing are still nearly perfect.

    Cons:
Stupid dialogs. A lot of grind. Boring side quests.

    Pros:
    Beautiful Greece.

A Witcher 3 reskin with 10 hours of fun, 50 hours of forced boring grind where you'll do the same missions over and over and then 10 hours of fun.

Play every creed series except the 1st one. The game lag deeply in story and the game try to be every things AC should not be. The combat is just fined. and everything else is average therefore a 5 for
    an average game.

The latest addition to the Assassin's Creed franchise is truly a wonder and a fresh take on a stale idea. The excellent execution, gameplay and story is only overshadowed by greedy micro transactions, paid XP and awful optimization.

An excellent and beautiful game from ancient Greece. Maybe it’s very different from the first game, however this evolution benefits the brand. [Issue#290]

While AC: Origins was packed with interesting stories, Odyssey is a generic ’Ubisoft sandbox’ in the worst sense, with hundreds of the same-looking places, dozens of ”kill-fetch” quests and almost zero motivation to grind further.
