    10 points for a stunning, immersive game. -8 points for the horrifically invasive DRM that boots me out randomly every couple of hours. Finally sick of this BS, I have now uninstalled the legit version of the game and am playing the cracked version. Congratulations, Ubisoft, you've made me into a pirate. Yarrr.

    Any game that treats you like a criminal simply isn't worth paying for, and isn't worth playing. The draconian DRM ruins any fun I might have had, since my spotty internet connection means I keep getting booted out of the game.

    An okay game with some pretty severe technical limitations.

    Graphics look pretty bad; graphics attempting to be photo-realistic in older generations tend to age pretty badly. There's horrible pop-in; objects and characters literally popping into existence 10-15 meters away from you. There's an FPS-limit of 60. The game stutters pretty badly on modern hardware with Windows 10.    An okay game with some pretty severe technical limitations.

    There's horrible pop-in; objects and characters literally popping into existence 10-15 meters away from you.
    There's an FPS-limit of 60.
    The game stutters pretty badly on modern hardware with Windows 10.
    There's no Field of View options (and default is annoyingly narrow).
    Mouse & Keyboard is unusable because of insane Mouse Acceleration.

    Now, if you're willing to overlook the horrible technical limitations above, the game itself is okay.
    The story has a nice ending twist, but also has a lot of dumb or boring elements throughout, kind of averaging it out.
    The combat is a boring, floaty spam-fest. I groan most of the times I'm forced to engage in it. It is extremely easy, to the point where I could have beaten most fights (including the final boss) about 20 times over without breaking a sweat. So whenever I could I just ran away to skip combat or threw a smoke bomb and insta-killed everybody.
    The side-missions are a boring slog. Most of them are literally a single sentence of story at the start and then a go-to-area-and-kill/punch/deliver, sometimes with a timer (I think there's literally 4 types of missions: race, kill, punch and deliver).
    The parkour is a mixed bag. Some of it is pretty nice, but there are a lot of momentum-breaking animations that really break the flow of the game. Where it shines is the jumping puzzles, of which most are located in the Assassin Tombs; those were a highlight of the game.

    Another highlight of the game was the music. There's some pretty great tracks in there.

    So in short: Technical limitations bring down an otherwise okay game. It's just not worth playing with so many amazing games that can be played instead. And you don't need to play this one for the story. Because apparently none of the persistent plot goes anywhere in any of the later games.    … Expand

    I recently tried to play this game again and remembered why I'd given up on it five months ago: the game is an abomination on the PC as it's clearly been programmed for consoles then hastily ported over.
    Flaws which have caused me to give up again just now - and remember this is months after release so various patches have been deployed.

    1. Volume - there is almost none, you really need more than double your settings/speakers to get basic sound for the game. That's not too inconvenient until your system plays non-AC2 sounds and blows your ears off.
    2. Mouse Control - incredibly sluggish reactions even on the highest response settings.
    3. Keyboard - the controls are aimed at console users and sometimes inaccurate. Combined with the mouse problem you never feel you have smooth control this time.
    4. Save games - I just lost an entire session of play as the game decided not to bother saving at any point: I'd even transitioned to new zones and seen multiple specific "Syncs" but it's all gone.

    The User Reviews speak volumes and I've no idea what incentives the critics received to for their reviews: I presume they played the console versions and then just knocked a few points off.

    AVOID.

    Massive travesty given how great AC1 was. If I even consider AC2 Brotherhood it will be on a Console.    … Expand

    I also tried using the **** crack to see if I was able to stop the game from crashing, with no success. Sorry, but I am not gonna buy anything more from Ubisoft. For this game I'll ask a friend to lend me his copy for xbox 360    Beautiful game, but the DRM thing doesn't even let me play it...

    Very disapointed. I have waited an entire day before I could play because the Ubisoft Server was down. I've to wait almost 10mn each time I want to play, because the game had to contact Ubisoft to load my saves and to validate the game. When you can play it, the game is fun, the backgrounds are really great, but the characters really ugly compared to the others actual productions.

Sure Ubisoft put their efforts into making it less repetitive, but the result only turned out to be like this: There's still no variety at all! What's the point in this? I'm really very disappointed with sandbox games in this gen btw. GTA IV and Mafia II are just like it, also rediculously repetitive, whichOkay, let go of the DRM thing here.     Plays great, serious save game issues under windows 7 where it will not save your progress. You end up having to replay over over the same missions because of failure to save. It also resets all guards and other settings in games when you accept or decline optional quests. Ubisoft technical support is non existent.     The 2 comes straight from the games amazing and flawless turnout as a sequel. Characters, weapons, plots, subplots, and free running aspects are what make this game an eye opener to dynamics when it comes to PC gamers. However, I am absolutely disgusted and disappointed in Ubisoft for the DRM. Ubisoft just spit on thousands of PC gamers for this ridiculous idea.     Outdated, boring and extremely overrated. AC got good with AC 4 Black Flag, Everything before that was meaningless, soulless and boring. Ezio is extremely unlikable, because he is not serious enough. I want my main character to be actually serious and emotional, that's why Arno from Unity and even Aiden from Watch Dogs are million times more likable and relatable characters. I then spent a week trying to get use to the awkward PC controls but just couldn't get use to the overly complicated set of keystrokes just to do some mindless fighting "dance" sequence to I could pass through a training segment to what I hoped to beI'm very disappointed with Assassin's Creed II.     The game was bad, ecspeccially compared to the great first on.A linear story, a horrible drm, a Boring story and game 'improvements' that are actually worse then the game before hound the game.

    Absolutely beautiful game world that is hindered on the PC. It is obvious the design of this game was strictly for consoles, which I do not really mind. But when that is the case, don't release it on PC and steal our money. If you can't take the time to make the controls more PC friendly, then just don't waste our time and take our money. We aren't your target audience anyway.

I've spent $1000s of dollars on games over the years and wouldn't know where to start pirating a game. I just like to whip out the VISA card and start playing. But this is way, way over the edge. I'm out $60 and that's ok since I learned a valuable lesson...if the name Ubisoft ever shows up in Steam or on a retailer's shelf, I won't even look at it. No way, no how and I'll make sure that everyone I know that plays games is aware of the issue too.… Expand

Don't tell me it can't be done because Mass Effect have done it fine. Any game that you can't control properly can't be played, game design 101.     There are so many bugs and issues I don't even know where to start, from messed up cutscenes to bad controls. If you want to play Assassin's Creed II, get it for another system (it's a really good game when it's not on PC). If you don't have one, honestly just pirate the game (I never pirate games but I wouldn't blame anyone if they did with this terrible thing).    … Expand

    Thoroughly dismal PC port, as someone who briefly played this on console I was really looking forward to getting my hands on it however Ubisoft once again has given us PC gamers the bird. I just don't know where to begin on the shortfalls of this game compared to its console counterparts, whether it's the invasive DRM or the appalling cut scenes where the audio is about 1-3 seconds out of sync.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Assassin's Creed II is a nice game, untill you don't play it.
    Even if the story is really nice and involving, the whole gameplay is wrong.
    Commands are overly unreactive, counterattack has 50/50 chance of working, regardless if you got the timing correct, so does every other combinations. Some weapon, like the hidden-blade, are supposed to oneshot every enemy, but that would make them overpowered, so they completely don't respond to, making them completely useless, and forcing the use of the sword.
    Unlike Assassin's Creed 1 some enemy (generally higher grade) are hardcoded to not die until their like hasn't gone below 3 squares, and since you can't attack them without getting stopped, you're forced to stay and continuing counterattacking them, losing tons of time and excitement in the battle.
    Another annoying problem is the pointless, completely broken and unpopular platform Uplay.
    Because f*** you Steam user, until you don't register your copy of the game, you're still a pirate.    … Expand

    The graphics are very good, and that sums up the good points. This is the most totally broken piece of software I have ever experienced. If we thought BF4 was broken, this one is laughably worse by far. I received my copy as a promotion. Do Not waste your money on this one.

    I cant really rate yet, because I only played like two days and I am STILL IN THE TUTORIAL! It feels like it, anyway. Be prepared to finish the game before you learn how to play it, at least that is how it looks like atm.

    Дошел почти до конца, а когда оказалось что последний квест нельзя выполнив не собрав всех страниц кодекса просто удалил эту дриснину и посмотрел концовку на ютубе, впрочем я не сильно много потерял

    Too overrated game in AC franchise. Only what i like is soundtrack. Modern AC games is so much better than this. I'll give 6 if ill fans cannot says this is the best AC game. Because it isn't.

    Assassin’s Creed II is a gem, a truly masterpiece also on PC. Developing a new economic system, and bringing more attention to combats, notoriety and context-script, Ubisoft achieves an awesome and epic experience. This sequel is far better than the first one.

    Two years later, Assassin's Creed tries again to make real those promises from Ubisoft, and prove itself as a better game than it was. The truth is that, despite the Renaissance setting, the vivid locations and the historical landmarks, the new features added don't really improve the sequel: the same repetitive mechanics remain, as the flawed enemy AI, a rough combat system and moments of frustration coming from issues with the camera and the control response in the platform sections. Assassin's Creed II it's still a good game but far from the masterpiece Ubisoft has been promising.
