    Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition – Part One is a VR game that has been very decently reworked into a traditional format. The first half of the story is great, with good fights and decent interaction with terminals and surrounding objects, as well as electrical puzzles. However, the lack of new areas and frequent backtracking makes it less enjoyable.

    Alien: Rogue Incursion – Part One: Evolved Edition is a competent and fairly well-adapted adventure, standing out for the relationship between its protagonists and its excellent atmosphere. It’s a shame that the design philosophies inherited from the virtual-reality version still influence the experience. The simple structure of the puzzles and combat, the lack of enemy and environment variety, as well as the bugs and other technical issues, ultimately hinder the game’s potential. Even so, it’s worth playing despite the setbacks — especially for Alien fans.

    Overall I enjoyed my time with Alien: Rogue Incursion – Part One: Evolved Edition. It’s not a particularly long experience, something you’d definitely be able to knock out over the course of a weekend, and offers some fun firefights and creepy locales to check out. The shift away from VR doesn’t appear to hurt the game in the least bit, and while I’d imagine it’s certainly more immersive in VR, it’s a completely passable experience without it.

    Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition doesn’t try to compete with Alien: Isolation’s stealth horror or Aliens: Fireteam Elite’s cooperative-ready gunplay. Instead, it’s an amalgam of VR-borne immersion, puzzles, and just enough firefights to ensure you don’t feel enfeebled. At its best, the game delivers a dazzling recreation of Cameron’s world and that along might have Alien fans salivating like a bloodthirsty Xenomorph.

    Just like plenty of other Alien game developers, Survios tries to chase that Xenomorph dragon that has only been caught by a select few. Even though Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition theoretically ticks quite a few boxes to ensure success, it unfortunately fails in delivering a truly thrilling Alien experience, mostly caused by poor enemy A.I. and lackluster gunplay. If you're a die-hard Alien fan who's only looking for a reason to keep shooting at ammo absorbing but frankly docile Xeno's, there's some fun to be had. Otherwise, I'd advise you to skip this expedition.
