In an industry where shock value is often the king of the horror video game, it’s hard to imagine a horror game completely devoid of gore and sudden fright hitting all of the right notes of interest, but Albino Lullaby does the job admirably.

Albino Lullaby creates horror not out of open defiance of genre norms, but from a place of genuine inspiration. "Scary" exists elsewhere, and it great supply. Albino Lullaby prefers to linger in a frightening sense of curiosity.

Albino Lullaby: Episode 1 offers a genuinely fresh take on the horror genre, with a bright color palette, a topsy turvy environment, and nuanced enemies. In spite of its low points, it’s definitely worth experiencing. With time it should become more polished, but for now if you want to play it, you’ll have to brace yourself for bugs.

As far as playing this in virtual reality on the Oculus Rift, I can't recommend it. Maybe it is just me, but every time I've ever tried to play the game on the Rift I've gotten physically ill. I managed to stomach about half the game before switching over to the desktop version to finish it up. It's one of the creepiest experiences available for VR at the moment but I just couldn't stand it consistently...Only clocking in at roughly two and a half hours, the whole experience is over rather quickly, but that's enough time to give players a clear satisfying story for those that paid attention to notes. It isn't all that innovative but truly, it doesn't have to be. If you're playing this, you're playing for the narrative. [Tested with Oculus Rift]

Not showing cruelty and yet be terrifying, achieve only the best horror movies. Albino Lullaby is quite close to them, except of unbalanced combat.

The next episodes of Albino Lullaby need to keep breaking the physical boundaries of this strange environment while forging a more consistent identity.

“Kooky” is a good word for Albino Lullaby.

Albino Lullaby: Episode 1 is a most unnerving horror game, but not the all-around freakiest or best from a gameplay perspective. Despite some A+ design work, there is a real lack of compelling gameplay at the core.

With poor narrative consistency, troublesome sneaking, and a lack of real coherence or objective, Albino Lullaby ends up falling well short of great despite the fantastic design and wonderful look to it all.

  1. Albino Lullaby delivers all the atmosphere we were hoping for, but then fails to have a sturdy enough game beneath it.

I tried to play it with Oculus Rift and the geniuses making the game were so super smart, that turning alone makes you sick, but not onlyI tried to play it with Oculus Rift and the geniuses making the game were so super smart, that turning alone makes you sick, but not only after a while, IMMEDIATELY!
turning speed is just too damn high.

also every time you pick up an object and look at it, the perspective of everything gets messed up, when you finish reading it snaps back. I am quite sure, not even the most VR-sickness resistent user can live with this through all of the game!

this review and rating concerns the use of VR and in that, Albino Lullaby fails miserably.
