Mar 31, 2026Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. (World Stage) is a fighter’s fighter from people who made such a fundamentally strong game and combat so deeply rooted in a style that strives towards realism over flashiness that it could be overlooked. But it is for exactly those reasons that this game whose original ports come from the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 era feel as fresh and powerful as ever. This is a hell of a package at a modest cost of entry, and the best Switch 2 fighter to date. What are you waiting for? Fight me.

Apr 6, 2026While it is an older title, I’m still surprised at the quality and general smoothness of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage on the Switch 2. It plays incredibly well, the online is generally smooth, and runs pretty great. SEGA definitely took some care with this port and it shows. Between the ability to use handheld mode, arcade sticks if you get compatible models, and the ease of portability of the console itself, this might be the best way to play VF5 currently. Whether you’re a returning vet or looking to start with Virtua Fighter ahead of future releases, you probably won’t find a better option.

Mar 27, 2026The Switch 2’s fighting game line-up is all the better for having Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O World Stage in it. In my humble opinion, this remains one of the best fighting games of all time, and the Switch 2 version looks and feels exactly as you’d hope, letting you take your one-on-one brawling on the go.

Mar 26, 2026For the asking price, it's hard to find much to fault with Virtua Fighter 5 on Switch 2. The slick, 60fps gameplay is approachable enough for newcomers, but with layers upon layers of depth to uncover, dedicated fight fans will find plenty to enjoy. Multiplayer is still the main draw, but thanks to the addition of World Stage mode to complement Arcade Mode, solo players are well-catered for. It remains to be seen just how lively the online community will be at this stage, but with features like cross-play and rollback netcode included, it's likely this one will stick around for a while. With other fighters seemingly constantly battling one controversy or another, Virtua Fighter 5 sticks to what it knows best: solid, grounded combat that's endlessly satisfying.

Mar 26, 2026Virtua Fighter 5 arrived strong on Nintendo Switch 2. Accessible for newcomers thanks to its simple three-button layout and still competitive for pro players thanks to its intelligent mechanics and unique characters, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is an amazing debut for the series on a Nintendo platform. With 19 years on the market, though, it missed the opportunity to offer more single-player content and more refined facial expressions and lip-sync animation, as on all other platforms. Even so, it remains one of the best fighting games on the market thanks to its mechanics and crossplay support.

Mar 26, 2026Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is the same, already great 3D fighting experience that PC players got last year and fans of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown have been familiar with since 2021. It brings Nintendo Switch 2 owners to parity with crossplay and rollback netcode, meaning that it should be easier than ever to find an online opponent.

Mar 26, 2026While the Virtua Fighter series continues to have its own distinctive feel and style of play, it looks great and performs well on the Switch 2.

Apr 10, 2026Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is fully aware of the Virtua Fighter legacy and holds it up high with plenty of technical skill and mechanic depth. Although based on a game released twenty years ago, this edition delivers an experience that will tick all the right boxes with fans of intricate fighting games, though it is less welcoming of newcomers hoping for a simpler style. Online play has also been improved, thanks to rollback netcode and crossplay, which help make this the ultimate version of Virtua Fighter 5, where all the hallmarks of the series can be found at their finest.

Apr 9, 2026Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is a highly successful edition, probably the best way to relive this historic installment today. It doesn’t offer a memorable narrative or a particularly rich single-player offering outside of World Stage, but it makes up for it with a still-exceptional combat system, an online experience that’s finally up to date, and a very solid technical implementation even on Switch 2. For those who want to rediscover the series or rediscover it in its most refined form, it’s really hard to ask for more.

Apr 3, 2026Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage on Switch 2 delivers a solid remaster that remains highly faithful to the series' classic essence, featuring a deep, demanding, and well-polished combat system. Although it lacks a story mode and shows little real evolution compared to previous versions, it compensates with abundant content, strong performance, and an experience tailored for hardcore players.
-
Mar 27, 2026Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage sets itself up as the real definitive version of this long-running entry in the series. Online play is still the main focus, and it helps that the performance is good, while cross-play ensures a longer than expected online life for the game. The single-player content is fine from a purist perspective; it'll keep you busy with fight after fight, but don't expect anything deeper than that. It looks and performs well on the system, and that's all you can really ask for. This is a great addition for Switch 2 owners who love fighting games, but it would be really nice to get more info on a brand-new entry rather than another port of this title.

Mar 25, 2026Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O World Stage comes to Nintendo Switch 2 holds up well with 60 FPS gameplay in handheld and docked mode, with the visuals holding up just as much with only a few minor visual imperfections. The inclusion of cross-play and rollback netcode also ensures that gamers on Switch 2 aren't left behind, either.
-
Mar 26, 2026A revival of a classic comes to Switch 2 looking slightly worse for wear, although the hit to visual quality is a sacrifice worth having to ensure a smooth docked and portable experience for Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage. The new solo mode is on the grindy side and unfortunately doesn’t add any story scenes that would appeal to offline players, but it serves as a solid alternative to the arcade, and unlocking cosmetics along the way keeps reasons to persist with it high. The focus is on the online portion, which has great long-term potential with rollback and crossplay at the core.

Apr 2, 2026Re-releasing a game multiple times doesn't seem wrong to us; the important thing is to do it wisely and strive to deliver the best possible experience to players at the time. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is being released on Nintendo Switch 2 in a less than appealing package with very little content, despite the desire to add some freshness with the World Stage mode. Regarding online play, unfortunately, the situation isn't the best: finding players could be more challenging than expected, considering how sparsely populated it is currently. However, netcode rollback can sometimes ensure (under the right conditions) a decent online experience. On Nintendo Switch 2, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage runs well, although the graphics aren't exactly spotless (a situation that improves with portability). For the proposed price (€19.99) it manages to guarantee some pleasant combat: but if you are looking for online competition, well, perhaps other competitors are doing better on this front at the moment.
