The game that saved the series, or at least rebirthed it taking the series back to its root while simultaneously modernizing it, now in great shape on a portable console with all extra content included.

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is still the high point of the series when it comes to horror, and it runs wonderfully on the Switch 2 for bedtime scares.

The need to refresh the series has pushed us to a level of ugliness never before (or since) achieved in RE game. The Baker family makes for excellent and unsettling antagonists, and the setting is one of the most disgusting places in gaming history.

With this new port, Capcom reminds us just how pivotal Resident Evil 7 is in its now thirty-year-old saga. The claustrophobic setting of a dysfunctional family and the switch to a first-person perspective create an oppressive atmosphere that is just as compelling on Nintendo Switch 2. Furthermore, the hybrid hardware delivers impressive technical performance that perfectly preserves the original experience, with masterful pacing and meticulous level design. All in all, this is a nightmarish new version that we're delighted to dive back into.

Overall, Resident Evil 7 biohazard Gold Edition is a fantastic return to form for the series. Sure, it’s a few years old now. But if you want the true Resident Evil experience ahead of playing Resident Evil 9 this is a great entry that’s well worth your time. Just keep the lights on if you’re playing at night. What was that sound…?

For survival horror fanatics who own a Nintendo Switch 2, Resident Evil 7 is incredibly easy to recommend.

Small ties and influences to the original series for the seasoned vets, with enough new and ridiculous to hook the newbies. The Switch 2 version worked way better than I could’ve expected, especially with how the Switch 1 only had the cloud streaming version, and my well documented disdain for cloud streaming on the Switch. The Switch 2 has the juice y’all, and I plan to continue my journey by jumping into Resident Evil VIII Village soon after I’m done with this review. Maybe after a little break to calm my nerves.

On Switch 2, the visuals remain largely consistent with the game’s initial release on PS4 and Xbox One. You’re not going to get any fancy ray-tracing here, but it’s nevertheless a gorgeous-looking game, whether you’re playing docked or handheld. Similarly, load times are kept pleasingly brisk and there were no noticeable drops in frame rate throughout, making this a wonderful way to experience one of the series’ best entries. Ultimately, if you refused to play Capcom’s ‘Cloud Version’ of RE7 on Switch 1, then your patience has finally been rewarded. In time, I suspect this entry will be looked upon with as much reverence as the original, and I urge you to add it to your library.

Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 is, arguably, the best way to experience Capcom’s classic. With all content included, outstanding performance, and the added versatility of motion controls, this native version surpasses previous releases and becomes a must-play for survival horror fans.

Resident Evil 7 biohazard Gold Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 is, above all, a demonstration of technical maturity. The RE Engine proves once again why it's considered one of the most versatile engines in the industry, and the Nintendo Switch 2 confirms itself as a viable platform for experiences that until recently seemed exclusive to home consoles.

The Switch 2 version of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is very good, especially from a technical standpoint. Low-resolution textures aside, the game looks excellent, and the near-constant 60fps really makes the game feel close to what you got on the PS4, only now it's in a portable form. The core game remains as solid as ever, and with everything in one package, Biohazard is an easy choice for a Resident Evil fan who only has access to Nintendo platforms.

Resident Evil 7 and Village deliver a surprisingly solid experience on Switch 2, showcasing the RE Engine's impressive adaptation to the hybrid console. Resident Evil 7 runs almost flawlessly, presenting a largely uncompromised version; however, Village frequently struggles with unstable framerates in open areas and displays visual compromises, yet its confined sections perform fantastically well.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Gold Edition is a very competent port of an amazing game that shows the Switch 2 can handle such endeavours without issues. Playing RE7 on the go feels like the game has finally taken a much welcome step forward when it comes to atmosphere and immersion, and the experience really benefits from being played as a handheld game and with a headset. On top of that, the inclusion of its DLCs with Gold Edition make this an unmissable release.

Resident Evil 7 on Switch 2 is a technically polished piece of series history and, above all, a very well-rounded package for Nintendo fans who don’t own another console.

Even though the original game released back in 2017, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard looks and runs very well on Nintendo Switch 2.

All things considered, though, this is a solid way to play a solid entry in the series. Capcom learned a lot from this game, with the experiments made iterated on in all the future entries. I can’t really stay mad at Resident Evil 7, and this was a fun revisit. This won’t be the best version of the game, but most newcomers will be able to play a version of the game with solid parity to the other console versions. A patch to clean up some lingering performance issues, fix up the HDR as best as possible, and improve gyro aiming would go a long way.
