Sep 15, 2025A great game somewhat marred by publisher distribution decisions and a lacking online userbase, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is a solid and vibrant puzzler with effectively implemented Switch 2 features, a large selection of modes to play, and endless hours of multiplayer potential.

Aug 26, 2025Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S remains a fun and addictive fusion of two iconic puzzle games, offering the same solid gameplay as the original and even the first entry from years ago. Most of the new additions could have been delivered as a free update, making this version hard to recommend to returning players.

Jun 17, 2025Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is an excellent puzzle game, packed with content and offering plenty of options whether playing alone or with friends. If you’ve never had a chance to try the original out, then this enhanced version is definitely the way to go. For returning players, however, it’s tough to recommend picking up the Nintendo Switch 2 title even with additional options. All in all, then, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is a great time, unfortunately marred by the lack of an upgrade option.

Jun 11, 2025Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is a colorful combination of two popular puzzle games with plenty to keep you busy. A robust story mode and chaotic multiplayer matches are very entertaining. If this was a new gane, it would receive higher marks. I’m glad it’s on the Switch 2, but it’s a shame there’s no upgrade option for owners of the original Switch version.

Jun 9, 2025Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is an excellent proposal if you've never played the saga: it's fun, complete, accessible and varied. But as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive re-release, it falls short. The improvements are minimal, the new content scarce and the distribution decisions debatable. Ideal if you didn't play it before, dispensable if you already did.
-
Aug 17, 2025Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is an underwhelming port of a great game. The addition of a single new mode and a handful of hardware features isn’t enough to justify the steep asking price, especially given its online matchmaking limitations. Had Sega offered a cheap upgrade path for existing Puyo Puyo Tetris owners, it would be much easier to recommend.

Jul 11, 2025If you haven't already purchased this colourful adventure, there's definitely a case for buying it, but for veterans, it's perfectly fine to stick with the version you already have without feeling like you're missing out on anything worth writing home about.

Jun 23, 2025A lack of an upgrade path for Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 players puts a downer on this otherwise feature packed puzzler.

Jun 11, 2025The concept remains solid with an adventure mode that's endearing if you like silly stories and can overcome holes in the narrative logic. The modes really play around with the formulas of both games well, and the amount of content can keep a puzzle fan busy for quite some time. The lack of an upgrade path for existing owners and the marginal improvements for the Switch 2-exclusive version make it difficult to recommend a double-dip. If you never bought the game before and don't mind sticking with offline play, then you'll have a good time with this title and can give this a higher score. For everyone else, you can safely steer clear from this version.

Jun 8, 2025More than most, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is a tough release to put a score on. Under no circumstances is it a bad game — in fact, it’s a pretty darn decent game that’s filled to the brim with modes and features to tide puzzle lovers over for the long haul. However, that has everything to do with the solid skeleton of the original Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 and barely anything to do with the minimal additions made to this Switch 2 re-release. For newcomers to the series or those who missed its original release, there’s plenty of fun to be had here. For fans who already have the original version on Switch, I struggle to think of a greater waste of Switch 2 gaming funds than this.

Jul 10, 2025Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S seems like the game version of redundancy. If you have the first sequel, there is simply no good reason to get this one. This could be the worst thing that's happened between Sega and Nintendo since the "Genesis Does What Nintendon't" commercials.
