Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Switch 2 is an impressive port. While it has graphical limitations like a lower resolution and 30 FPS, these are secondary given the hybrid console's nature. The game extracts the maximum from the Switch 2 hardware, offering a more polished experience than the base PS5 version at launch. It includes all content and recent structural improvements, making the epic RPG fully enjoyable on the go. Despite technical compromises, the core magic of the adventure remains intact, expanding the game's reach to a new audience.

Final Fantasy VII REBIRTH is another great showpiece for the Switch 2. Even if it doesn’t match the technical quality of other consoles, the fact that it runs as well as it does is impressive. The frame rate is a relatively stable 30fps, the resolution is decent, and the additional enhancements are great for new and returning players alike. If Square Enix is able to keep this up, it bodes well for whenever the final part of the trilogy arrives.

While Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is still the same GOTY-worthy game it was 2 years ago, its Switch 2 port quickly finds the limits of Nintendo's newest hardware and works around them as best it can.

The Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t the most powerful system on the market. But it is a combination of portable and powerful that’s hard to find anywhere else. It’s got enough juice that even a behemoth like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth can find a home on the console. I loved this game an unhealthy amount when it first came out two years ago. And although this is not the best way to play, the Switch 2 port is still remarkably stable. Rather than obsessing over what’s running at what framerate, I found myself instantly sucked into the game once more. It takes no time at all to forget that I’m playing a port. Which is high praise, especially for a Nintendo console. If you’re looking to play Rebirth, either again or for the first time, the Switch 2 version is a rock solid option.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a remarkable achievement for Square Enix. As far as ports go, a lot of under-the-hood wizardry is required to get a game of this magnitude to run on the hardware and even more experience to get it to run well. There are clear visual compromises, but be aware of the visual drawbacks before considering where to play this game. And don’t get me wrong, this game is still pretty stunning, and it plays well.

It sometimes exhausts Switch 2's capabilities, but there's still a lot to like in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, from the attention lavished on its memorable cast to a kinetic battle system. Treat it as a Final Fantasy theme park, and you'll have a blast.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth remains an excellent game on Switch 2, which obviously comes with some graphical compromises to run on Nintendo's hybrid console, but will still be a blast for anyone starting or looking to revisit the second part of the remake trilogy, even if it has more minigames than I'd like it to have.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for Switch 2 is not the definitive version, but it is one crafted with care and one that does justice to the game. It proves that Nintendo’s hardware has matured enough to handle a top-tier AAA title without sacrificing anything essential. And even with the expected limitations, the core experience remains the same: an outstanding game that is now, quite literally, for everyone.

Square Enix has pushed the console to its limit With Final Fantasy VII: REBIRTH on the Switch 2. It’s most evident when exploring some environments, but none of these issues impact the stellar gameplay that has kept players engaged all this time.

Which brings us back to how fundamentally impressive it is that this is on a handheld console now. I might be on the older end of the millennial generation, but I remember how exciting it was to have Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI on the go thanks to the Game Boy Advance. This is the kind of on-the-go experience that was pure science fiction not so long ago.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 is a very impressive port that brings one of the generation’s best RPGs to Nintendo’s new console in great form. Docked mode is where the game shines, with largely stable performance and a level of visual fidelity that preserves the scale of Rebirth far better than expected. Handheld mode comes with more noticeable drawbacks, including softer image quality and fast battery drain, but none of it stopped me from wanting to keep playing Rebirth wherever I go.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the Switch 2 is full of compromises, sure. That didn’t stop it, though, from being an impressive port of one of the best RPGs in recent years. It’s blurry and unstable in handheld mode, and I do agree that these distract from the experience, but the brilliance of its combat, characters, and storytelling isn’t lost to the weaker hardware. It may not replace the PS5 version, but as a way to experience a massive adventure like this anywhere you want, Rebirth feels at home on Nintendo’s handheld hybrid.

FF7 Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 isn't the version some people might have dreamed of. It's the version we could realistically hope for: confident, unpretentious, and full of charm. It won't be the prettiest one, and claiming otherwise would be dishonest. But the greatest adventures have rarely needed the highest resolution to leave a lasting impression, they need to be experienced and felt. This port understands that better than most. There's something inherently addictive about being able to take a game this vast and generous wherever you go. The compromises are real, but the soul remains intact. And honestly, being able to squeeze in a few rounds of Queen's Blood on the subway between stops is the kind of freedom you never want to give up once you've had a taste of it.

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth remains an absolute beast both narratively and graphically, and I'm amazed that a game of this scale and ambition fits onto a slim handheld like the Switch 2 without making any critical compromises. If taking Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, Yuffie, Cait Sith, and Red with you wherever you go outweighs any technical limitations, here you have one of the most important games of recent years finally on Nintendo, and also one of the best recent instalments in the Final Fantasy franchise (if not the best) finally in your hands

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth follows in the footsteps of the first remake for Nintendo's hybrid console with a proper port, albeit with certain minor but expected flaws. It maintains specifications of 1080p in handheld mode and 2K in docked mode, all at a locked 30fps with an unbeatable result. The game struggles a bit to maintain textures due to the expanding world, but ultimately, it is a version that brings out the best of the Switch 2.

The game is a heavyweight even on the Switch 2. It doesn’t disappoint in terms of content or gameplay, and the noticeable downgrade in graphics is made up for by the ability to embark on adventures on the go with Cloud and friends. Even those who already own the PS5 version will find a good reason to pick up the new edition for the Nintendo console.

Square Enix has done a great job bringing the full Final Fantasy VII Rebirth experience to Switch 2, with streamlined progression options making it more accessible than ever. It's just a shame that there are some noticeable compromises when it comes to visuals, with pop-in being the worst of them.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth also proves on Nintendo Switch 2 to be a huge, emotional, and spectacular JRPG, capable of magnificently expanding everything that made Remake great. Just as with the previous installment, Rebirth is a genuine technical and visual marvel on Nintendo hardware, managing to preserve much of the original experience’s spectacular presentation even in handheld mode. Square Enix has delivered a surprising port, once again demonstrating how this trilogy is able to shine on any platform on which it is released.

As a complete package, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for Switch 2 excels where it needs to. It makes some necessary compromises with the visuals and general map object clutter, but it’s a small price to pay for being able to experience the second stage of Final Fantasy VII’s remake trilogy. It plays well on the Switch 2 Joy Con 2 controllers, even when they’re not slotted into the grip, it runs generally at a stable 30, and introduces the new Head Start mode for players that just want to coast through the story and relax. To top it all off, you’re getting this complete package for $50, so you’re getting it even cheaper than someone that might’ve played on release. You’ll notice some bundle deals with Remake as well, so keep an eye out if you’re looking to jump into Final Fantasy VII’s remake saga. If you’ve already played FF7 Remake on Switch 2 and were looking into the sequel, you won’t be disappointed.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth accomplishes something extraordinarily difficult. It takes a beloved story that many considered impossible to improve upon and expands it in ways that feel meaningful, ambitious, and surprisingly respectful. It transforms a focused remake into a sprawling adventure, deepens an already exceptional cast, and delivers one of the most content-rich RPG experiences available today. More importantly, it validates everything Square Enix set out to achieve with this trilogy. For Nintendo Switch 2 owners, the achievement becomes even more remarkable. Rebirth isn’t merely another major third-party release arriving on Nintendo hardware. It’s proof that the platform can host modern blockbuster RPGs without sacrificing their identities. Just a few months ago, Remake Intergrade demonstrated what was possible, and now Rebirth demonstrates what is achievable. The fact that one of the most ambitious role-playing games of the decade can be played both on a television and in handheld form without losing the essence of what makes it special is nothing short of impressive. For longtime fans, this is an easy recommendation. For newcomers willing to start with Intergrade first, it represents one of the finest RPG journeys currently available. And for Nintendo Switch 2 itself? This may very well be one of its defining showcase titles (for now).

Ultimately, the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a lot more compromised than the port its predecessor received a few months ago. That doesn’t change the fact that this is an absolutely stunning game overall and likely the best game the series has produced in the last fifteen years. If you have the option to play it on another piece of hardware, I’d recommend doing so, but players who can only access it on the Switch 2 will still have a great time as long as the pop-in doesn’t bother them too much.

Because that is exactly what it achieves: replicating the experience found on PS5 and PC exactly as is—albeit capping the frame rate at 30 fps—but with a visual presentation that squeezes every last drop of performance out of the Switch 2. Yes, it looks a bit blurry at times; the hair rendering glitch is still present (though it is better disguised); and it suffers from flaws in other areas... but it is no less true that this was a significantly more demanding and taxing game.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth remains an excellent way to experience one of the most ambitious RPGs of recent years on the go. While the Nintendo Switch 2 version successfully brings this massive adventure to a portable format, it requires more compromises than the previous installment's port. The result is still an impressive achievement, but the visual and technical reductions are more noticeable this time around. Even so, Rebirth's outstanding world, characters, and storytelling continue to shine, making it a worthwhile version for players who value portability above all else.

Five months after the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth replicates its predecessor's feat on the Nintendo Switch 2. This achievement is all the more impressive given that we are talking about an open-world adventure—a title with a far more ambitious scope than its more linear predecessor. Beyond some visible graphical compromises and a frame rate locked at 30 frames per second, the verdict is clear: *Final Fantasy VII Rebirth* runs smoothly and stably on the Nintendo Switch 2, making it arguably the best way to experience the game on the go. It is, therefore, the perfect opportunity to discover—or rediscover—this second installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake saga before its conclusion, which appears to be just around the corner.

Square Enix demonstrated its ability to harness the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2, but Final Fantasy VII Rebirth presented an even greater challenge due to its vast open world and the sequel's many new features. Meeting this challenge seemed likely to push the Nintendo Switch 2 to its limits, yet the final result was a worthy portable version—featuring some graphical compromises, but no loss of content.

Square Enix raises the bar with Rebirth. Neither the low-quality textures, nor the noticeable pop-in, not even that ocean that looks straight out of a bygone console generation can hide the sheer scale of this port. The game remains as exceptional as ever, and the fact that it runs this smoothly is, quite frankly, miraculous.

Perhaps the most striking thing of all is how “normal” it’s starting to feel to see a game like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth running on a Nintendo console. Just a few years ago, something like this would have seemed completely impossible. Yes, there are noticeable visual cutbacks. Yes, there are technical limitations and some performance issues. But the final result is still extremely solid for an RPG of this scale, and it’s more than made up for by the fact that it runs in handheld mode. Square Enix has clearly delivered a very serious technical effort here.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a tremendous addition to the growing Switch 2 catalogue, delivering an ambitious and content-rich RPG experience that sets a new bar for what players can expect from the best entries in the JRPG genre. The heartfelt story, innovative action combat, and huge amount of open-world content combine in an experience that’s hard to put down for the several dozen hours it lasts. Though there are some noticeable performance and visual concessions, these ultimately don’t detract enough from the game's quality to derail the experience. I’d absolutely recommend you pick this up if you consider yourself a fan of JRPGs - Square Enix knocked this one out of the park, and it more than deserves a spot in your library.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a bold game, whether it’s the direction of the story, the size of the world, or the stupid amount of mini-games. It’s a little bit messier than Remake, but the highs are higher. When this game clicks, it’s one of my favorite games in recent memory, making some of the discordant moments less egregious. On Switch 2, it’s a totally fine port, albeit not as impressive as the port of Remake. There might be better platforms to play this game on, but if you’re into the world of Final Fantasy, RPGs, or wild and weird AAA games, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a must-play wherever you can get it.

The most ambitious Switch 2 port doesn’t just work: it turns the handheld into the best place to experience an adventure lasting dozens upon dozens of hours. An RPG that meanders and unnecessarily stretches its content, but that, overall, delivers an outstanding audiovisual experience.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the Nintendo Switch 2 is a deeply ambitious port, and while it looks great most of the time, you're going to encounter the occasional framerate drop and a little pop-in. However, as a primarily portable gamer, I will exclusively replay Rebirth on Switch 2 going forward, as it's great to be able to explore Gaia on the go or grind levels with Netflix playing in the background.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 is another impressive technical achievement. The visual compromises are obvious but not egregious, and portability changes the equation. Much like Intergrade before it, this feels like a little bit of handheld sorcery.

Performance problems and image quality issues stop the Switch 2 version from becoming the definitive way to experience Rebirth, particularly in handheld mode, where the hardware occasionally fails to keep up with the game. Even so, those issues never diminish just how remarkable the experience still is. Rebirth remains an extraordinary RPG filled with exceptional combat, an outstanding world, incredible music, and one of the strongest casts in the genre. More importantly, it succeeds at the nearly impossible task of honoring one of the most beloved RPGs ever made while carving out its own identity. Technical compromises aside, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth stands as one of the best RPGs currently available on Switch 2 and a hugely impressive new realization of a classic that already defined the genre decades ago.

When viewed on its own merits rather than through comparisons with more powerful hardware, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on the Switch 2 is a technical greatness that gives Nintendo players the chance to experience what is arguably the best Final Fantasy in years, if not the greatest the franchise has ever brought.
  40. 92
For the Nintendo Switch 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth represents more than just a simple port—it is a statement of intent. It serves as a concrete demonstration of what the platform is capable of hosting when a developer chooses to invest time and resources into an adaptation built specifically around the hardware, rather than merely scaling back graphics settings to the breaking point. The compromises are evident—at times even aggressive—yet almost invariably chosen with intelligence. The final result obviously does not attain the visual excellence of the PS5 version, let alone that of the PC release; nevertheless, it succeeds in preserving what truly matters: the scale, the atmosphere, and the sense of wonder that accompany every step of the journey undertaken by Cloud and his companions. And considering the complexity of the original work, that is no small feat.

Once again, Square Enix and Naoki Hamaguchi’s team did an amazing job with this port to Nintendo Switch 2. The resolution and frame performance are the trade-off again, as it is to be expected when fitting a massive game like this. Everything else is intact, and the Streamline Progression options are always appreciated. Just don’t look at the ocean or look too closely at the environment. Aside from that, this is a worthy addition to the Switch 2 library.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth makes the transition to Switch 2 in great form. It generally looks excellent, the sound is spectacular and the world is as large and expansive as it ever was. There are cutbacks over the PS5 version, and whether you can live with them will be a personal choice, particularly with the shift to 30fps and the reduced level of detail, but if you want a massive, portable Final Fantasy adventure, Rebirth is ideal.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Switch 2 successfully preserves the essence of one of the best recent RPGs, delivering fluid combat, excellent design, and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. However, the port comes with noticeable visual compromises and a technical presentation that falls short of other platforms. Even so, Square Enix prioritized what matters most. The gameplay remains solid, making this a noteworthy version despite its limitations.

It’s not the excellent conversion that Remake was, it has many graphical compromises, but even Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth can show its teeth on Nintendo Switch 2. Despite the inevitable limitations of porting a game released just two years ago on PS5, Rebirth remains a spectacular title, one of the best RPGs of the generation, and now also perfectly playable on the go.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth arrives on Switch 2 as an ambitious technical achievement, maintaining its massive scale and cinematic soul despite hardware limitations. FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is one of the best RPGs out there and it performs exceptionally well on Switch 2; well, if you can look past the slight drop in graphical quality when playing on the big screen.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is an utterly fantastic game that’s made the transition to the Switch 2 with few major compromises. Those compromises can be a bit distracting at times, but it’s easy to look past them when the game is as fun and charming as it is. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth remains as strong now as it was at launch. Its compelling, carefully crafted story and best-in-class combat system make it an essential experience for anyone who enjoyed the first entry in the trilogy. A slight overreliance on minigames can occasionally slow the pacing, but it rarely undermines the overall experience. While the Switch 2 version does come with some clear technical compromises, none of them meaningfully diminish how consistently fun and engaging the game is.

The port’s worst problem by far though has to be pop-in. Whether it be assets, textures, shadows, or LOD your immersion will be interrupted often by it popping in awkwardly. NPCs will randomly pop in, or foliage will go in and out as you walk through the world. Sometimes shopkeep NPCs won't even load in when you go to click the prompt, leading for you to wait to browse their wares until the model takes a few seconds to pop in. It takes what should be a gorgeous world and muddles the presentation of it. The surfboards at Johnny’s hotel have edges so jagged they could cut you, or Divine Intel Shrines having a garbled mess of textures. When I see a low quality texture, I’m never exactly sure if it was just compressed by default or if it was struggling to load in. This pop in is where I think the porting team should be focusing on for post-launch support. That, and maybe higher quality textures. While I appreciate the decreased file size, I promise you I would download a texture and asset expansion pack just to get the game looking a little nicer. [Impressions]
