Jun 22, 2025Bravely Default Fairy Flies HD Remaster is a masterclass at least as effective as the original game, which is why the score is identical. This unhoped-for remaster sublimates an already beautiful and inspired JRPG, giving it a well-deserved second youth. With the exception of a couple of amusing but anecdotal mini-games, it lacks any major new features, but it modernizes and adapts to the new platform with formidable efficiency. It's gorgeous, extremely generous, as addictive as ever, and the soundtrack remains incredible. If there's one Nintendo Switch 2 launch game that deserves your attention, in addition to the indestructible Mario Kart World, it's this Bravely Default Remaster.
-
Jun 23, 2025This remaster revitalizes a classic JRPG with gorgeous high-definition visuals, quality-of-life improvements like adjustable battle speed and encounter rates, and a polished interface that surpasses the original, although the new minigames feel disconnected from the main story and serve more as tech demos than meaningful additions.
-
Jul 16, 2025The triumphant return of Bravely Default in the form of an HD remaster adds value to a title that was already great. The added improvements make the experience much more user-friendly, ensuring the game doesn't feel outdated.
-
Jun 30, 2025Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a gloriously traditional JRPG, with compelling combat, fun new minigames and many hours of content.
-
Jun 24, 2025Upscaled graphics, quality of life gameplay improvements, and finally being able to enjoy the beautiful soundtrack in HD, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster scratches the itch so many fans have felt since the last 3DS title. The additional minigames may not add much to the story or gameplay, but come as a little extra to a remaster that deserves the hype.
-
Jun 20, 2025While Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is an undeniably unusual choice of a Switch 2 launch title, I'm glad that this turn-based classic, boasting a stellar combat system, a lovable main cast, and one of the best soundtracks ever composed, has been made readily available to a new generation of players. Even over a decade later, this is still an absolute must-play JRPG, but if you've already experienced this on 3DS, then there's not much reason to revisit it.
-
Jun 15, 2025While Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster will feel incredibly familiar to returning players, this is the perfect way to play an RPG great. One of the best Nintendo 3DS games is back for a new audience to discover, and sometimes knowing when not to change something is an important part of re-releasing an older title. At times, it feels like a lost relic, but I’m glad it’s here again.
-
Jun 15, 2025Bravely Default was a sincere love letter to the Final Fantasy franchise, now with this remaster I can’t recommend this game enough to my fellow Final Fantasy and JRPG fans; with it playing and looking better than ever.
-
Jun 15, 2025A charming and brilliantly restored JRPG gem, with one of the genre’s most inventive combat systems and a visual style that shines even brighter in its second life.
-
Jun 14, 2025Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster proves that a solid JRPG can stand the test of time. This updated version stays true to the original while making the adventure more accessible than ever.
-
Jun 13, 2025Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a great experience. The original was phenomenal, and everything the remaster adds and changes usually works in its favor. Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is the best way to experience the 3DS classic today, and a spectacular Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. I just hope this means Bravely Second will get the same treatment, or that Bravely Third is even in development.
-
Jun 13, 2025Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a remarkable Switch 2 JRPG, and the core gameplay, mechanics, and story remain fresh and relevant. It looks beautiful and runs wonderfully on the Switch 2. I’d even say the new gameplay additions serve as a better introduction to mouse controls for the hardware than the actual tech demo minigame collection Nintendo created. Anyone who picks it up to go with their new system won’t be disappointed.
-
Jun 11, 2025Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster revitalizes a cult classic JRPG, and plants the genre's flag firmly on the Switch 2's soil.
-
Jun 11, 2025Bravely Default didn’t need fixing, and simply rescuing it from the 3DS is more than enough. This is a beautiful, heartfelt, and wonderfully classical JRPG, and as much as I love Mario Kart, over the past week, I’ve wanted to play this one so much more.
-
Jun 10, 2025Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is the best way to experience one of the best modern JRPGs of our time. It's a timeless experience bolstered further by uplifted production values that simply must be experienced by anyone who is a fan of the genre.
-
Jun 17, 2025BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY HD Remaster makes for a great excuse to re-play one of the best RPGs out there which takes job systems to a whole other level and delivers a top-tier battle system that's complemented with superbly attractive visuals.
-
Jun 17, 2025Nostalgic to a point, yet inviting and accommodating to those new to the genre, Bravely Default remains one of the best RPGs ever created. Though the transition to Switch 2 isn’t perfect, it is still a welcome one, and as one of the cheapest launch titles for Nintendo’s new console, an absolute bargain to boot.
-
Jan 13, 2026When Bravely Default launched, it was a very solid 3DS exclusive RPG with combat system taking a new approach. Its HD version show that this JRPG aged well and the better graphics enhances visual experience, astonishing atmosphere and great tactics. It is a double return – to FF roots and its own start with perfect Brave & Default moves.
-
Jul 23, 2025A pocket-sized tribute to classic turn-based RPGs. It draws you into an intriguing world with fun characters and deep, solid gameplay — especially for a handheld title that stands out on its own.
-
Jul 13, 2025An unassuming but essential bit of art preservation, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is an excellent way to experience one of the best RPGs of the 21st century. Team Asano’s love letter to the genre remains a fresh and engaging medley of systems and theme, even if the new Switch 2 minigames add little to the already wonderful experience.
-
Jul 1, 2025Bravely Default Flying Fairy is a great game, and while this HD Remaster cleans things up a bit its efforts often feel lacking. It looks better in some ways, but the same in others and plays better in some ways but worse in others. If you enjoy experimenting with character builds, it’s a great time, but it’s still going to take some grinding to get there. If you can persist through the grind, you’ll find the same diamond in the rough that the game was on the 3DS.
-
Jun 20, 2025Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a solid remaster of a genuinely amazing game. While not every change is for the better, almost all of them are understandable side effects of porting a game between systems that have very different capabilities. All of Bravely Default's strengths are still present, and if you're a fan of Final Fantasy V or Octopath Traveler, then you'll find a lot of those games' high points present. I would've liked to see more of an upgrade to the game's final quarter, but even with that, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is still one of the best RPGs on the market.
-
Jun 19, 2025Twelve years after its release, Bravely Default returns to accompany the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 in a version that enhances the qualities of the original game. With this graphical overhaul, we enjoy more than ever the original style of this adventure, especially on a portable device, and the few comfort additions make the experience more enjoyable. While the title still shines with its combat and music, certain aspects remain in their original state, such as its overly classic story or its incessant notifications. This remaster nevertheless remains the best way to discover this seminal and ideal game while waiting for the announcement of the next project from the Asano team.
-
Jun 18, 2025If you are a fan of turn-based JRPGs, games with a lot of customization, or a simple story done really well Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a great game that has a lot of great gameplay, a fun combat system, and a lot of different ways to be able to create your party if you want to replay the game. It is a game that has had such a consistent following for a very long time that I would keep on your radar, even if the midgame can feel a bit repetitive and grindy.
-
Jun 15, 2025Revisiting the origins of the Bravely franchise has been a good experience that has been enhanced by the additions of this version, such as the fast forward in event scenes or the new mini-games that make use of the mouse mode of the new Joy-Con. While I have been left wanting some other more substantial additions, I hope this installment is well received to encourage Square Enix to bet on a similar treatment for Bravely Second.
-
Jun 15, 2025Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is an excellent RPG launch title that has now been given a second life through the Switch 2. Maybe with some refinements and fixes, this Phoenix Down’d game will be remembered again as one of the greats.
-
Jun 13, 2025Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is more than just a nostalgia operation: it is the celebration of a precise idea of role-playing game, rooted in tradition but refined by brilliant intuitions and design choices that stand the test of time. The combat system, with the Brave/Default dynamic, remains one of the most successful inventions of the genre, while the writing and the sekaikan manage to enhance even a story with initially familiar traits. Sure, some narrative passages that are too diluted and curious choices regarding unlockable content risk breaking the rhythm, but overall it is a return of class, which does not look out of place at all in today's panorama and, in particular, in the newborn Switch 2 game library.
-
Jun 13, 2025Bravely Default HD Remaster brings back one of the best 3DS games for the Switch 2 launch with few new features, but remains a great classic JRPG for fans of the genre. It's a shame it didn't receive support for new languages like Latin American Spanish and Portuguese.
-
Jun 12, 2025It may not be the most “suitable” game to showcase the full potential of the Switch 2, but Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster remains a superb JRPG. The content is virtually identical to the 2013 original, so if you’ve already played it thoroughly, there’s little incentive to upgrade; otherwise, there’s no reason to look back, as this is the definitive edition of this small masterpiece. The release on Game-Key Card might make collectors raise an eyebrow, but the affordable price makes it a truly tempting purchase. A must-have for fans of the genre.
-
Jun 10, 2025Having finished Bravely Default multiple times on 3DS, it’s safe to say that the primary experience and story are intact with the Switch 2 release. If you’ve never played a Bravely Default game, this is a decent way to do so if you happen to have a Switch 2 and not a 3DS–although you can buy a secondhand 3DS and Bravely Default game for much less than the cost of Nintendo’s newest console. The visual upgrade is nice on the whole, but I personally prefer how the characters looked on 3DS, and how the cities and towns popped off the 3DS screen. The inability to set the encounter rate to 0 from the outset is a bit disappointing, and the added mouse-focused mini-games don’t offer much in the way of entertainment. Nonetheless, any turn-based RPG fan worth their salt needs to be able to say that they’ve played Bravely Default, and Flying Fairy HD Remaster represents a fantastic way to christen your Switch 2. If you’ve already played it through once or twice on 3DS, my recommendation is a little less resounding.
-
Jun 6, 2025Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is more than an update; it's a statement about how classics can evolve without losing their essence. The combination of refreshed graphics, quality-of-life improvements, and innovative features like mouse controls creates an experience that feels both familiar and fresh.
-
Jul 2, 2025Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster refreshes the experience on Switch 2, though graphically it doesn't quite bring out the console's potential.
-
Jun 30, 2025This is a charming game that receives a well-deserved remaster, not just visually but also in gameplay and new additions that enhance the original experience. For those looking for a challenging JRPG with unique characters and a demanding combat system, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is the right choice.
-
Aug 11, 2025Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster provides a definitive way to experience an excellent JRPG from yesteryear. Flawed though it is, I would still recommend it as a truly unique experiment, blending classic vibes with an innovative spirit that earns it the right to be revisited in this more polished form over a decade after its original release.
-
Jun 25, 2025An excellent opportunity to rediscover a classic RPG that keeps its traditional essence intact. The captivating story and robust combat system remain as appealing as ever. The visual adaptation is simple and doesn’t fully harness the power of Switch 2. However, if you can look past this detail, you’ll find a charming game.
-
Jun 12, 2025Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is still a fine JRPG with nice story, tactical round-based combat and cool job system for varied gameplay without typical classes. But the king is still the strong atmosphere thanks to a fantastic soundtrack and mostly beautiful, if not in any aspect refined graphics. If you love JRPGs and did not play the original, the remaster is a good choice. If you already played the 3DS original, there is hardly anything to find, that can easily surprise you.
-
Sep 30, 2025While not everything comes over smoothly, I think this HD remaster makes some necessary changes to fit modern platforms. Adding extra gimmicks in the form of Joy-Con 2 minigames will maybe hamper this going to further platforms, but it is in spirit with the original duology’s love of gimmick features from the 3DS. I’m not fond of cutting all the added story scenes connecting Bravely Second, but this does a good job bringing back the original game in all its glory. I may not love this game, but I’ve grown to respect it a lot and think it was important in keeping the Job System alive in Square Enix RPGs. This is a solid remaster effort of an enjoyable game, despite some odd choices. The visual upgrades are tasteful, the audio has much less compression than it did on 3DS, and there’s dual audio now. I find more value out of Second for being far more experimental in comparison, but what is here is still unique for the niche these games exist in. There’s a lot here for Switch 2 fans looking for a long RPG from arguably a more experimental era of portable gaming.
-
Aug 27, 2025Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a very authentic remaster of the original title, but doesn’t offer much reason to play it if you haven’t played it already. Great recommendation for those who haven’t played it on 3DS.
-
Aug 10, 2025If you’re a fan of classic Final Fantasy games or classic turn-based RPGs, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is an easy recommendation. This is an excellent game with a fantastic soundtrack, a well-rounded cast, and an engaging combat system. Fans who already played the original game will fail to find any substantial new content to discover, but the world of Luxendarc has never looked better. While I wish that more effort had been put into bringing this remaster up to 2025 standards, it’s still Bravely Default on a modern platform—and it’s hard to complain about that.
-
Jul 29, 2025Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remasteris exactly what it claims to be: a no-frills, touched-up rerelease of a beloved RPG. The mini-games are not enough on their own to warrant double-dipping, and some of its changes will take getting used to for fans, but both fans and newcomers can walk away satisfied with the updated visuals and features. Flaws of the original remain, as do its strengths, but a great game remastered is a great game made better, leading this to be the definitive way to play Bravely Default.
-
Jul 11, 2025If you haven't played it and you like Japanese role-playing games... then it's a no-brainer. Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is basically a conservative rehash, but it's a phenomenal adventure at its core that still holds up well today.
-
Jul 4, 2025The HD remaster of one of Square Enix's most beloved modern cult classics is finally available on a current platform, but despite its charms, it remains an experience that will easily divide players.
-
Jun 30, 2025Those who already played Bravely Default on the 3DS back in the day won’t miss out on much by skipping this remaster, but for those who haven’t been on an adventure in Luxendarc yet, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is with its graphic, technical and quality of life improvements and lack of microtransactions the best version of the game. The minigames make clever use of the Joy-Cons’ mouse mode and besides the useful rewards they give, they’re also fun to play.
-
Jun 22, 2025Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a wonderful return to a game previously locked behind the 3DS. With it, history is repeated: there isn’t all that much of a reason this should only be confined to the Switch 2, limiting audiences for an RPG classic once more. Yet it is. Still, A great game is a great game. My first journey with the Warriors of Light has been fantastic and magical, depicting beautiful environments full of rich tapestries, a classic fantasy story with some surprise twists and turns and an incredibly robust, creative and experimental combat system with oceans of depth. Whether returning to Luxendarc or a newcomer like me, this is one of the first no-brainer RPGs for the Switch 2.
-
Jun 20, 2025Even with a barebones remaster, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a must play for anyone who never owned a 3DS and lost one of the freshest and most original combat system of the last fifteen years. The same can't be said for the ones who already saw the game to its conclusion, as thers's simply not enough new content to recommend a second purchase.
-
Jun 20, 2025The best chance to rediscover a title that pays homage to classic JRPGs.
-
Jun 17, 2025Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a solid update of one of Square’s finest modern turn-based RPGs. Its combination of a flexible job system, dynamic combat, and unexpectedly interesting story makes for an adventure that no fans of the JRPG genre will want to miss out on, especially any such fans that enjoyed Team Asano’s more recent work on the Octopath Traveler duology. That in mind, there isn’t really anything new in this remaster that justifies the price of a double dip—if you already put a lot of time into this one on the 3DS back in the day, I’d caution you to first consider just how badly you want to spend your money on what ultimately amounts to little more than a nice visual bump. All the same, Bravely Default was and still is a great RPG; if you haven’t had the chance to give this one a shot yet, this port is a great way to see what the fuss is about.
-
Jun 13, 2025If they are going to bring back Nintendo 3DS classics, let them be like this one. Bravely Default is still as recommendable as ever, now with slight improvements and a couple of mini-games to make this adventure more bearable, where choosing a job is much more exciting than in real life.
-
Jun 12, 2025Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a good remaster that might not do much to freshen up the original experience, but it does make an already good game available to a new generation of RPG fans.
-
Jun 9, 2025It may not be the flashiest game for a console launch, but Bravely Default remains a JRPG gem, and being able to play it on a modern system with welcome improvements is reason enough to (re)discover the story of the Warriors of Light.
-
Jun 9, 2025Bravely Default HD Remaster is a competent release which polishes a beloved classic: still fun and engaging, it doesn't really bolster anything game changing but small improvements to quality of life and visuals.
-
Jun 7, 2025Even though I know the original well and know what's coming in the next hours, I might still stay a little longer with Bravely Default than I wanted to. If a game can do that after all these years, it must have done a lot right in the first place.
-
Jun 23, 2025Bravely Default is a fantastic RPG, one that’s easily worth your time and attention. The job and combat systems alone are worth the price of entry. Everything else, the charming graphics, the clever dialogue, and the catchy music, is icing on a delicious cake. I wish the visuals felt more worthy of the Nintendo Switch 2, but they still look better than ever before. If you’ve played the original, I’m not sure if you want the remaster. But if you haven’t, you simply can’t miss Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster.
-
Jun 20, 202513 years after its debut, Bravely Default remains an extraordinary JRPG in every way, as well as a title that any fan of the genre should jealously guard in their collection. That said, the remaster churned out by Cattle Call does not really add anything indispensable to the original experience, except for some necessary adjustments to the "quality of life"; indeed, paradoxically the re-release locks down key mechanics that were once available from the first hours behind two new and damned repetitive mini-games. If you do not have a Nintendo 3DS and are not the least bit interested in getting one, the remaster could be a good opportunity to bring home one of the best JRPGs of the modern era. However, we remain of the opinion that the combo formed by the Nintendo 3DS version and its equally enjoyable direct sequel (which expanded and concluded the story), played strictly on the original hardware and therefore on two screens as it was originally intended, is still the best way to explore Luxendarc and experience the great adventure of the Warriors of Light in its entirety.
-
Jun 23, 2025Bravely Default may not have aged well, but there's still plenty of enjoyment to be found. Sadly, if you're already familiar with how the adventure goes, there's little to no reason to pick up the Flying Fairy HD Remaster unless you're a true, diehard fan. If you never had the chance to play Bravely Default on the Nintendo 3DS over a decade ago, however, it's certainly worth your time to enjoy an old-school JRPG experience. I'd argue there are better options available, such as the Octopath Traveler games or the Yakuza 0 Director's Cut, but if you're looking to see what all the hype was about back in the day, it's worth a purchase.
-
Jun 29, 2025A leap of two console generations without betraying the original, with a few minor additions and quality of life. The Bravely Default saga has never been better, so you'll just have to swallow this unlikely second half.
-
Jun 23, 2025Overall, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is still a solid game in terms of how it plays, but it needed more time and money to really make this a proper HD remaster. As such, this feels like a lost opportunity and something that should have been treated with more care.
-
Jun 20, 2025A long-awaited remaster of an iconic turn-based JRPG, the Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster finally brings the beloved title to modern consoles, allowing even more people to enjoy its charm. Unfortunately, the remaster falls short in some areas, and not every change is for the better, but it’s still a great time for fans of classic RPGs.
-
Jun 18, 2025How does Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster hold up in 2025? In short, it holds up poorly unless you’re a big fan of the franchise, or just love JRPG tropes with a passion. Even the combat mechanics that lends the game its name wear thin, leaving little about this game to really recommend against more inventive JRPGs or Switch 2 launch titles. For the first time ever I'd rather play a racing game than a JRPG.

Sep 13, 2025Bravely Default is a special JRPG. Its first hours are amazings because it feels like the classics Final Fantasy, but after that, the game starts a boring loop that ruins the experience. It's still being a recommended RPG because the art style and, specially, its turn based combat are great, but you need to open your mind and accept its faults. [Recommended]
