I would really like to write to post tonnes of MB to demonstrate the greatness of OOT. It's just simply pointless. The game laid all the foundations for the best representatives of 3D adventure, open-world and action genres. I'm astounded, that things I deemed modern and thought-through in top games of today, were all created under one title 20 -- years -- ago!!!

The story is just so addictive. I just wanted to play and to play, to explore the world and learn the story. The dungeons are the main atraction. Their design is awesome and everyone has got other things. Sometimes you have to find the way to a dungeon through a desert, sometimes you must find an item as a child to master the dungeon as an adult and many, many more. This game is fascinating with his secrets, his rich details and amazing gameplay. This is why this game was never boring to me. I could play it many times without saying some day: I'm fiinished, i've done all in this game,. There is nothing more to find."
Some boss fights were very fresh and amazing while playing the game, just like for example Phantom Ganon, Twinrova or even Ganondorf.
But there where also boring bosses with only one scheme and easy to kill like Bongo Bongo or Morpha.
I would also like to get more story after collecting the three Holy Stones. It looked like: do the dungeons, get the amulets and we'll se what happens. It would be nice if there would be more story and side missions between the later dungeons.

All in all The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is an amazing game. You just have to play it. Great story, awesome world with uncountable secrets and phenomenal gameplay. Maybe it would be even better for me if i had played it in 1998, when it was realeased.

    PLAY IT

Yes, the majority of Ocarina of Time's soundtrack is very good, and top tier for something out of 1998, it doesn't have many songs worth listening to multiple times, at least to me. And the bosses... Well, sorry to say it, but Twinrova, Ganondorf, and Ganon were really the only ones I liked. Overall, Ocarina of Time is worthy of the title "classic", but is quite overrated. Expand

In it's twentieth anniversary, It still is the best gaming experience I ever had with a game, maybe BOTW came close to that sense of exploration, but this is the peak of video game art. The game excels in everything it tries to achieve gameplay, design, music, etc. You could write dozens of books about why it is so good, but it's better to experience the game by yourself.

This game was and is such a large part of my life and as much as I would love to say this game is perfect, there are three things i wish I could change in this game. First I wish there were more side missions. Yes there are quite a few already in the game, but I feel like if they would have added more it could have made this game feel even more realistic and adventurous. Maybe if they would have added that expansion they intended to add with the N64 it would have fixed this issue. Second I think I can speak for everyone when I say having the option to skip through discussions with Kaepora Gaebora would make this game less aggravating. I know some people may argue saying that even though it's annoying this is one of the things in the game that help you experience these different emotions, which is one of the reasons why this game so great. All I have to say is they could have at least made his discussions shorter and sty on topic. Last but not least the fact that the game ends once you defeat Gannon Dorf is so disappointing to me. Now before you jump out lashing at me, let me say I do have mixed feelings about it. The ending to me is the most satisfying and least satisfying part of the game. You spend countless hours going around trying to find all of the little hidden secrets the game holds, getting to know all of the people who live in the game and when it comes time for you to defeat the evil within it, it justs ends. Maybe this is what makes this game so desirable, because it makes you want to take your time adventuring and once you defeat the game you get to start all over so you can try an find things you may have missed the time before. However, I would like to know what happens after you win. Does link and Zelda get together? How is the world now that Gannon Dorf is gone? Has a different evil come to threaten the peace? This game leaves you with so many questions and sadly not to may answers.

I would love to see nintendo come out with a remastered version in HD for the switch. I first thought that a remastered version would possibly ruin the game but seeing the HD Unreal Engine 4 screenplays online has totally changed my mind. I currently don't own a switch but if they do decide to release a remastered version of this game I will totally go out and buy one.

These reviews here are saying stuff like "If you see a negative review they are just trolls/hate zelda" but that's not true. It's a decades old game that was revolutionary at the time but newer games have improved on it's formula to the point where OOT is outdated, it didn't age as gracefully as Super Mario 64, another early 3D game. Navi isn't as annoying as her reputation makes her seem but she does tell you a lot of obvious stuff and repeats herself a lot. First of all, the music is excellent. Absolutely perfect, no further explanation. There is so much music for every case and they are going to fit in the mood perfectly. Koji Kondo did a great job.

I think the Nintendo team created the puzzles incredibly clever. Sometimes you need to think for 10-20 minutes to beat the puzzle. After finishing the puzzle, you say how I couldn't think that.

Enemy variary is enough, combat is good and boss battles are perfect, not so hard or not easy. NPCs(non player characters) are great for those years.

And the open world there are so many places that you can interact with people in the open world. You can ride a horse or you can join in the slingshot throwing competition or you can explore. You can make any of these situations. What ever you do you will be rewarded in any way.

Just about every praise people have given this game since its debut in 1998 is well deserved. It has well designed dungeons, memorable music, a grand sense of adventure. However, this game is not perfect. It was made in an era before right-stick camera control was a thing, and as such, if you are accustomed to newer games, it may be a bit clunky for you. Moreover, while the world is truly vast and wide-open, the central field area where you will be doing most of your travelling is unfortunately not very interesting. It has atmosphere, but there's almost nothing to do. The game also lacks a certain amount of character and personality that future Zelda games have like Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. That being said, this is still a game worth playing. It is very well designed and immensely satisfying by the end. Please play this game if you haven't. Expand

Another factor to consider is the graphics, since they have aged quite well as well as the game mechanics. Mechanics that until today (2021) have been used in different games of the saga and also in other incredible games like Dark Souls. I recommend this Zelda to anyone who has not given the opportunity to try it, games with the level of greatness and nostalgia like this are very few. Expand

The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time is a phenomenal title that used the limited technology of the Nintendo 64 to make possibly the most successful and well-known game ever. It's combat system, z-targeting, and world are some of the best you'll see in any game.

Still one of the very best Zelda titles to this day, Ocarina of Time brought the franchise into 3D in glorious fashion. While it uses the tried-and-true blueprint established by its masterful predecessor, A Link to the Past, it reinvents combat in a satisfying way and utilizes its addition dimension to great effect.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ocarina of Time launched the Zelda series into 3D and set a bar for video game excellence that has stood the test of time to this day. This game is the video game equivalent of The Godfather movie it is that excellent and brilliant. Like The Godfather, it did not just make waves, it made a tsunami still being felt today.

When I booted it up and saw the title screen for the first time, I realized immediately that Ocarina of Time would be absolutely historic before I even started playing it. When I started playing it, the game completely blew me away with its excellence, and kept topping itself over and over again all the way to the end. After beating it for the first time, the feeling I had at that moment was to replay the whole game from start to finish all over again. The key to this game’s greatness and timelessness is its story. It is so solid, that most movies have worse plots than this game. The plot of Ocarina of Time was clearly intended for it to be the keystone game of the Zelda series for everything that came before and after it, well before Nintendo came out the official Zelda timeline. When Nintendo came out with the official timeline, Ocarina of Time was placed as the keystone game of the series in it.

The rest of the game is just as solid as the story. The soundtrack is an all-time great, The villain in Ganondorf is extremely intelligent akin to a real life dictator, despite being mostly third person felt first person in immersion, and has easily some of the most powerful women warriors and leaders in all of fiction; topped off by a princess in Zelda that disguises herself as a reclusive warrior boy called Sheik for 7 years, and is never a damsel in distress. As I have grown over the years, it is that latter I have the greatest respect for in this game because it is still extremely rare. While Zelda/Sheik is the most notable woman warrior and leader in Ocarina of Time, there are many other powerful woman warriors and leaders in this game as well. Princess Zelda literally gets trained to be a warrior by her caretaker in a warrior woman in Impa. There is also a strong willed but bratty Zora princess and sage in Ruto, your forest friend and later sage in Saria, and a tribe that consists of nothing but powerful women warrior of color in the Gerudo. One of them in Nabooru gains the courage to defy her evil leaders in Kome, Kotake, and Ganondorf, and pays the price for it only to be revealed as a sage.

This Gerudo tribe portion is by far the weakest point in Ocarina of Time. I have massive respect for the Gerudo tribe being powerful women of color, but the way you defeat them I recoiled in racist disgust. You have to stun them by taking pot shots with arrows, and it was exacerbated by Link being white, blond, and blue eyed. Despite this cringing way of winning over the Gerudo, the game still shows extremely powerfully how their own leaders in Kome, Kotake, and Ganondorf abandoned and betrayed them, with Nabooru proving to be the only Gerudo Leader with a moral compass to care and believe in her own people. This racial factor also led me to conclude that Princess Zelda is only member of the Hyrulian Royal Family with a moral compass because she is the only one not imperiously detached from the rest of the kingdom, and saw it all as Sheik. (An extremely rare occasion where the material redeemed itself by the masterful and perfect execution of the story around the Geurdo Tribe, Nabooru, Kome, Kotake, and Ganondorf.)

As for Ganondorf abandoning and betraying his own people, you can just see him lose all shreds of his remaining morality as the story progresses. He wanted to better his fellow Gerudo when seizing the royal throne, but in that timeless phrase “power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely,” he unleashes a seven-year long reign of terror. By the end of the game, he becomes an isolated out of control dictator seeking more and more power in a complete loss of morality, and completely abandons his own tribe. Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time reminds me vividly of real-life dictator Idi Amin of Uganda. They both seized power in a similar way in a coup, and unleashed a reign of terror and destruction of similar length that ended with them being forcefully removed. (Ganondorf 7 years and Idi Amin 8 years)

Despite its racial flaws, Ocarina of Time remains a masterpiece of a game that has and will be remembered for decades to come as one of the greatest games of all time. You simply will not see all of video gaming, never mind Nintendo and Zelda until you play Ocarina of Time.

The Unparalleled Classic: A Review of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Can there be such a thing as absolute perfection? If there is, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time epitomizes it in the gaming world. Released in 1998, this game set the bar impossibly high, forever transforming our perceptions of what games could be. This monumental achievement transitioned us from the conventional 2D animations to a universe where games not only paralleled our world but transcended it.

The plot is the heart and soul of Ocarina of Time. Its storyline is a zenith in the Zelda franchise that, even in 2023, remains unsurpassed. Apologies to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom devotees, but Ocarina of Time simply plays in a league of its own.

The game weaves a narrative that is as simple as it is complex, gracefully juggling themes rooted in Shinto, restoration of natural order, the inexorable passage of time, and the bitter necessities of premature adulthood. It tells a profound coming-of-age tale of a young boy thrust into adulthood to combat an evil only conquerable by an adult. This saga outshines any other coming-of-age story in existence.

Ocarina of Time also stands as an exceptional example of 'showing' rather than 'telling'. In contrast to the contemporary norm of feeding audiences beliefs, this game brilliantly showcases scenarios that allow players to formulate their own understanding. It’s a testament to the game’s integrity, a quality significantly lacking in many contemporary games and movies. Ocarina of Time upholds integrity in its purest form, a trait that adds to the game's unique allure.

The auditory experience of the game is nothing short of magical. Each soundtrack is a masterpiece, acting as the perfect companion to the narrative, painting an immersive atmosphere that bridges the divide between imagination and reality. From the enchanting melody of the Kokiri Forest, the haunting echoes of the Shadow Temple, to the inspiring tunes of Hyrule Field, the music score brings each scene alive with an intensity that is simply extraordinary.

To say that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is legendary would be an understatement. For decades since its release, no game, even within its own franchise, has been able to replicate the magic that Ocarina of Time so effortlessly captured. It's a lightning-in-a-bottle phenomenon that holds a unique, untouchable position in gaming history.

I can't urge you enough to play this game if you haven't yet. It's more than just an entertaining pastime; it's a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that transcends the traditional boundaries of video gaming. Gift it to someone, or better still, play it with your children. Words, even as glowing as these, do scant justice to the magnificence of Ocarina of Time. It truly is a game that must be experienced to be appreciated.
