    I've played this game so many times. It defined 3d platformers and cemented mario as the gold standard for platformers.

    This game was a very good game for its time. Although the physics feel clunky with today's standards, it was and still is a wonderful mix of 3D Platforming with decent levels and storyline.

    This game is perfect and its the best 3D platformmer of all time. This is fact and anyone who says its bad are probably some stupid kids who are spoiled by today's games. This game is almost perfect, yeah the graphics haven't aged well but that can be said for any game from the 5th gen, there are bugs but thats with alot of games.     a beloved classic, nearly every mission is memorable and fun and most of the levels are unforgettable. every year the first thing i do is 100% this game and its always a blast. unfortunately where the game is bad it drops the ball HARD, dire dire docks and wet dry world are snooze fests and while i like the bowser levels, all the actual fights are very disappointing. despite all that ia beloved classic, nearly every mission is memorable and fun and most of the levels are unforgettable. every year the first thing i do is 100% this game and its always a blast. unfortunately where the game is bad it drops the ball HARD, dire dire docks and wet dry world are snooze fests and while i like the bowser levels, all the actual fights are very disappointing. despite all that i consider this game one of the best platformers on the n64 and definitely a template for anyone considering making a 3d platformer of their own.     Super Mario 64 is one of the most influential games of all time and my personal favorite. With a great soundtrack, fun level design, and movement that still holds up today, this game is still without a doubt worth playing. If you're into platformers and you haven't already, give this game a shot.

    This is an iconic game but replaying it I didn´t enjoy it, the controls are bad and the camera sucks.
    20% of the levels are kind of fun and the rest are irrittating and bland.

    I never grew up with this game. I grew up with Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy.

    So when it was cheap on the Wii U, i had to pick it up.

    An all time classic. The first mario 3d game really has it all. Fun and addictive gameplay. Smooth controls. Many different worlds you can play in and a soundtrack filled with classics. I always love revisiting this game.

I bet when it was released it was amazing and I know the speed running community has kept this game alive, but playing this game casually really isnt the best.     It is old, it is rough, Mario is weird to control if you aren't used to it, I think level design could have been better with some changes. I think SM64 was more experimenting how Mario would work in 3D than a game, it was intended to be the blueprint of what was to come. Still love it because nostalgia but I can understand it is not for everyone.     If one were to nitpick, the camera might be a bit finicky at times, and the controls might not feel absolutely perfect - however, such gripes feel minuscule and unwarranted when looking at how marvellous everything else is. The music and sound design are sublime and iconic; the environments are gorgeous; the gameplay and mechanics all feel timeless.

    Super Mario 64's legendary status among video games is deserved. While it may be showing some signs of age, I fully believe this is the best 3D Mario game ever, and managed to set an unreasonably high bar for all 3D platformers that came after, even among its direct sequels.    … Expand

    I think this game has aged very well. It's still fun to this day. The camera is 100% the worst part about it. It can be jank af sometimes, but this game is just so iconic. The levels are great, jumping through paintings is a cool idea, the music is good, it's just an amazing platformer game. Do wish the Bowser fights were a bit more challenging though, guess they wanted to test the N64 controller

This game definitely didn't age well at all... But ofc it has a banger soundtrack and Bob-Omb Battlefield is still a fantastic level. The Bowser fights in this game are cringe tho

    Super Mario 64 is a solid platformer with great character movement and fun levels. There is some repetitiveness at times, some levels are very uninspired and some challenges are incredibly frustrating to complete, but overall, you can't go wrong with Super Mario.

    Jogo que criou como se faz jogos em 3D pro mundo, e ainda hoje é o melhor Mario de todos os tempos. Obviamente esse jogo está no meu top5 e fez grande parte da minha infância por seu ótimo.

It would have been easy to do the awful 'down is up, up is down' style of movement (I'm looking at you, Star Fox on the SNES) but no, instead Miyamoto made one of the most soothing controls in videogame history, and although it's aged well... FINE (I'm such a fanboy...), it's still so fun to just kill the baby penguin by dropping him off the cliff, throw Bowser into a spiky ball and give him paranoia for the rest of his sad life and to BLJ into Princess Peach's great grandfather's clock.     The absolute benchmark for not only 3d platformers, but 3d games in general. The movement is so good that you could have fun in an empty room, but it also helps that the levels are for the most part good. There's a variety of glitches that improve the gameplay, by adding extra spice to speedruns. Also, there is an extensive modding community. There is really no valid criticism for this game.

    This is such a great game I still this game even to this today because its so much fun. This is one of the greatest 3D Mario game heck probably one of the best 3D platformers of all time

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is really overrated, and there are many reasons why. For one, most of the love for this game is nostalgia. The levels in this game are not good, with wonky and sharp levels with misplaced textures that make the game feel like it was made by a 5 year old on Super Mario Maker. An upside though is that this game is one of the nicest looking on the system, with most N64 games being horribly stale and ugly looking. Another terrible thing about the game is the star placement. Some stars are in extremely dumb and arbitrary position. Like in stage 2, Whomp's Fortress, there is a star where you have to shoot Mario out of a canon into a random wall with no indication that that's where you need to shoot. One of the things I hate about this game is how whenever you get a star in a stage, it kicks you back out to the castle. This is just a lazy way to draw out a short game with only 18 stages! And finally, the wiped cream topped on this craptacular game, is the controls and camera. I don't care what any one says. The controls are terrible. Mario is slippery as hell, and I can barely do I think without flipping half way across the screen. Mario's move set is way to cluttered. Oh, and don't even get me started on the Wing Cap. That piece of hot garbage surved ice cold is literally a tool for more or less gliding, not flying, with those shoty controls. Although, Mario's swimming controls are amazing and discourage spamming. And those revolutionary camera controls, while good, where restricted from you 99% of the game. A good mechanic wasted. The only thing this thing does perfectly is the hub world, a masterpiece with the cool paintings gimmick. Overall the love for this game is nostalgia. It sucks a lot and when you break it down, it's more like one of the worst games ever than one of the best. What do I think of Super Mario 64 DS? It's better with updated graphics, more playable characters, and mini games. But still has terrible controls, a bad camera, and that dumb level design. In retrospect, Super Mario 64 was a revolutionary game, but even then, it didn't hold up well, and it certainly hasn't over the years. Much like any N64 game, it gets worse over time.… Expand

    One of the best games of all time. Excellent stages, a great ost, some of the best gameplay i've witnessed in a game and many other things. You might say that the graphics are not the best but i don't care that the graphics aren't 8K 120 fps.

    lots of other game franchises struggled to make the jump to 3D, but mario hit it out of the park on his first try. this is way better than those stupid sonic adventure games

    The best 3D platformer. I'm a little biased, as this is the firs tone I ever played back around age 8-10, but it really is excellent. The gameplay is great. Only downside is the camera, but to me it's not that big of a deal.

    Another early game that sat the standards of 3D single player games extremely high. Many hours of unique gameplay and not a single boring second. A masterpiece.

    Honestly yes these games are a revolution but I can't get used to the horrible control and the disgusting camera and some stars who have to start over 15 times to win because you have to make no mistakes in the air because you're not going up it goes up and down it goes down you don't have to go down to be able to go up 2 millimeters so I don't really like games

Super Mario 64 brought Mario into 3D for the first time, and did it masterfully as still easily one of the greatest and most influential games in history. While Super Mario 64 did not necessarily create everything it did, its package set the blueprint for future platforming games, and still is fun to play over a quarter of a century since it first came out.

    This game starts legendarily showing a 3D Peach's Castle with a 3D Mario coming out of the green pipe, and into the castle to Bowser's iconic "Bwa Ha Ha!" laugh. This castle serves as the hub for the game, and you are taken to diverse landscapes of 15 courses and 15 secret field areas of fields, ice, caves, lava, sand, water, a haunted mansion, the sky, and even inside a clock. Bowser is fought in 3D 3 times in this game. The first two times you get a key that unlocks a major part of the castle. The third and final time is as the final boss of game.

    The soundtrack for this game debuted many of the most iconic themes in the Mario series and some cases gaming in general, and if you collect all 120 stars, you are in for a special treat.

    There is a special joy while playing this game. You get the feeling that Nintendo wanted to make a historic statement with Mario going 3D, and you feel it every second you play it. You haven't seen all of gaming, never mind platformers, Nintendo, and Mario until you play Super Mario 64.    … Expand

    This is a truly classic game. The gameplay saves 3D games as we know them. This was just Mario's first jump to 3D. But the only gripe I have is the camera it aged very badly. Although it is very awkward to play after 20 years still this is a wonderful game and one of the greatest Nintendo launch titles.

    This is the first video game I've ever played, and I'm glad it was. It is simply fun to move around, so it makes the whole game really enjoyable. The puzzle mechanics are fun, the boss fights are great, and the level design is top notch. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone.

    Each world in Super Mario 64 rewards your exploration with fun challenges. Constantly returning to the hub world and restarting levels adds tedium, but also helps you familiarize yourself with the environment before solving each puzzle.

    I could go very in depth about all the things that mario 64 dos well but it's easier to list the negatives. 1: there is none, this game has no negatives in my opinion. graphics are fine and everything else is perfect. I played this game for the first time last year on switch with mario 3d all-stars and got hooked. now i have completed he game 12 times and 100% it once.

    I want to say I loved the game as a kid When I was a kid I used to explore the levels. I never really got the game until it's DS remake came out and the game was amazing at the time, I can see that but now, it isn't as much of a masterpiece as it once was. Yes the exploration and platforming is fun(something super mario odyssey should balance more) and the music is good too but the issues are the camera, controls, and story. The camera isn't the best but it can be excused since it was the first of it's kind. The controls are alittle slippery too and that can make the levels harder to beat. However it's not as bad as sunshine's issues with the camera and controls but looking at recent reviews, it's more the rushed game design than the controls or camera. Lastly the story is too basic. I felt like even 3d land had a better story. It should've gone for the super mario bros 3 route rather than the super mario world route.… Expand

There are 120 different stars to collect, and the levels are all super memorable and classic! Bob-omb Battlefield, Whomp’s Fortress, Wet Dry World, Tick Tock Clock, you name it! There are also secret stars you can find around Peach’s castle which adds to the fun! The graphics were excellent at the time, with an advancement to 64 pixels which is why it’s called the Nintendo 64. The soundtrack is filled with classic tunes that constantly get stuck in your head! The controls are very solid and still hold up well to this day. There were some creative ideas for power ups in this game. Instead of the old mushroom and fire flower, they added the Wing, Invisibility and Metal caps which all worked out so well and you even had to enter secret levels to be able to access them which made it more fun. The Boss fights were easy but fun, and who could forget “So Long Gay Bowser”! I guess if I had to say one bad thing about this game, it would have to be the camera, which can be annoying to deal with. This is one of the biggest and most important games of all time and is still highly replayable to this day!… Expand

    The distribution of power stars in the levels is horrendous. I think 7 stars in one level is more than enough, don't you think? I understand that there are memory constraints, but there either could have been less stars overall, or 1 (maybe 2) more level(s). Definately a problem.
