Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes takes the series into virtual reality territory, skillfully reworking its structure and perspective. VR could have been used more with the puzzles, and the visual polish on Meta Quest 3 isn't perfect, but Iconik's experiment is certainly a success: it's too short, but what an atmosphere.

The actual puzzle design is effective and leans into that sense of natural exploration, giving players more reason to take in the creepy sights and sounds. Composer Christian Björklund does a great job enhancing the narrative through subtle touches and effective musical stings. While the game itself suffers from some control issues, it’s never so distracting that it can fully undo the effective moments of immersion that Altered Echoes delivers. While the purposefully ambiguous and thematically heavy story might be a tad opaque for some players, there’s enough craft and tension in Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes to make it a must-play game for horror fans.

Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes successfully translates the series' signature blend of unsettling horror, oppressive atmosphere, and oversized nightmare environments into virtual reality. Playing as Shadow Six offers an intriguing new perspective on familiar events, while excellent sound design and effective stealth encounters make the experience genuinely tense. Although strong technical performance and faithful adaptation help the game stand out among VR horror titles, uneven pacing, occasional control frustrations, and a story heavily dependent on prior series knowledge prevent it from reaching its full potential. Fans of Little Nightmares and immersive horror will find plenty to enjoy, even if the adventure feels somewhat short for its price and concludes on a divisive note.
