Total War: Empire is one of the best strategy games I've ever played on mobile. It stays true to the franchise principles, it's historically accurate, but it has a lot of requirements in terms of hardware. If you can play it, you'll love it; if you can't play it, you'd better buy a new phone.

If you take the time to dive into the mechanics, Total War: EMPIRE has a lot of depth and offers plenty of exciting battles at land as well at sea.

It was buggy on its release 15 years ago and is consistent with that today, with occasional crashes and visual glitches even on a recent iPad Pro. It does work though and it’s a lot of game – and a chunky 10GB download – to take with you on the train, even if its touchscreen controls can sometimes be a bit fiddly.
