Takes "Pay To Win" to new heights (lows?). Even paying hundreds a month isn't enough. And despite that, Galactic War is the best reason not to play. Rather than making it challenging the Devs seem to think that the best idea is to randomly throw an impossible team at you so you fail regularly. I guess that's easier than good coding.

The characters are all but unique, some with their powers and abilities as they would never have in the SW universe. There are no sounds attached to characters and animations are all the same and repetitive, even bonus actions are just the same animation that you have to watch from start to end. The developers are most interested in adding more characters that you can get by paying real cash rather than fixing issues, and balancing the gameplay. They just couldn't care less.
Some characters are way overpowered, like Count Dooku, Rey, Kylo, Sidious, Unduli and more... The devs seem to have a special attachment to those few, as they do nothing to balance them. Dooku for example has 100% counter!!!
Other pathetic mechanics are dodging, especially when a character is stunned. Sometimes, the dodging goes as far as 100% during battle, where you can't land a single hit, before being obliterated.
The grind is real, and it will take a good year to get to realistic position in the arena with some good toons at proper levels, unless you pay hard cash to get roulette based character or shard drops. Yes, roulette! for the same value in cash , you can get as much as an equivalent of a bucket, all the way up to a character with no skills or level, so basically it's a ripoff, not worth a penny.
Othe nice touch from the devs include, the beautiful system of levelling up, where the price doubles for each level, but the gains are getting smaller and smaller with each level. Also the game seems to be stacking you up against enemies of your player level, rather than your character's level.
Other than that it's a bit of fun if you can stand the negatives.

I've been playing since December 3, so I speak from experience. I kept telling myself that they will work out the issues, but that has not been the case, and unfortunately, the attitude of E.A. seems to be to make things worse.

That being said, an incredible amount of obvious cash-grabs, time-sink and crashes/bugs all over the place. They recently (July 6) rolled out an untested update that crashed the game and set many players back a day of game-play. Their solution was to offer a few crystal which are worth $2. Buying that lost time in the game would have been $20.
Also, they intentionally make things more difficult without offering better rewards because it helps their "time spent" numbers. After months of complaining about a daily task taking about an hour to complete, they promised to fix it (which to be fir happened for about two weeks), then the immediately "stealth" changed it back and now it takes about 1 1/2 hours to complete. After an uproar and a week of silence, they released a statement basically saying that's exactly what they intended to do (accept a small error for a few high-level players which they are fixing IMMEDIATELY and making that mode take even longer for them as well).
Bottom line - save yourself the aggravation and stay away from this game!!

If you are not prepared to throw lots of money (and time) at the game don't bother.

This is an amusing diversion hampered by mechanics designed to appeal to addictive personalities.

The practices of EA are deceitful at best.

If you have problems with impulse control stay away.

My biggest issue is as a newbie player I'll never reach certain point in the game where I'll be able to compete - example - addition of Commander Luke Skywalker (to get him players have to have couple heroes on max levels and those who didn't have them... well out of luck and this was one time event) those who play this game for months will get CLS with zero problems, new players are done and in current "meta" everyone runs CLS.
Also with recent reworks and CLS in the game I'm feeling like this game is becoming a gigantic power creep where "old" heroes are becoming more and more useless as they add new things.
With addition of the newest Territory Battles one might hope that they will ease THE most tedious task in game which is purple gear farm but no, no such luck.
To sum up (from F2P perspective)
    - NOT new player friendly
    - Super power creep
    - They change/add too much and too fast
    - Gear farm is a huuuuge annoyance
    - Also... General Grievous rework? :P
If you have been playing for a year or more you might as well stick with it but for new players... We're in for a rough ride I'm afraid.
    EDIT
After addition of Territory Battles (aka terrible battles) and being forced to max out one of the worst heroes in the game just to unlock some of the new content I'm giving this game 1/10 rating. Also WAY too heavy emphasis on light side and rebels in general.

If you pay from $10 on up a pop (from character- and event-specific bundles from $10-$20 apiece through "vaults" of some 15K crystals for around $100 each), you can keep playing, spoon-fed characters and crystals (in-game currency that can be purchased with real-world cash) and extend your play time indefinitely. If you don't want to pay, you get maybe 1-2 hrs meaningful gameplay daily. I don't blame Capital Games, they're simply EA's henchdev in this low-effort asset flip.

Games shouldn't be made this way. I remember fondly when you could buy a game ONCE, and enjoy hours and hours of play. You wouldn't have to add more and more money for the privilege of unlocking characters core to the franchise, you'd progress through levels (repeatedly as needed) until finally that reward (in reality silly, but epic in the gaming mindset) is achieved.

EA is one of the biggest responsible for spearheading the efforts at ruining this simple pleasure.

I was in the hospital, my wife sick with pneumonia (which I eventually got myself). I had my tablet with me, and as I sat with her I got my daily 1984-gulag-cafeteria-style ration of daily play. Throughout the day I'd get little appetizers, tidbits like bonus energy that would let me play a few more minutes, run a few more repetitive mock battles for in-game cash and experience. Refusing to pay into the game, at all, that was my lot in life. My energy spent, literally nothing else to do or explore, I'd simply abandon the game and read or play other games not so eager to pilfer my wallet.

This kind of game isn't developed by people passionate about gaming, it's developed by people eager to make MONEY. While the character models are faithful to the Star Wars universe, and the characters' various abilities can be made to mesh in interesting ways and bolster each other, the mechanics and visuals are half-hearted. Expect blaster bolts to be precisely and deftly deflected by a Jedi's almost psychic ability? Nope, text proclaiming DEFLECTED or EVADED appear and shortly fade, like any excitement you might've had moments before. Looking forward to a droid picking up and body-slamming an enemy? Nope, just run up, attack animation, run back. Battle Chess is a Disney ride compared to this quickly repetitive back-and-forth between characters in battle.

The background scenery reflects a dingy, seedy cantina, but not in a way that's intriguing or charming, but just plain depressing. At various holographic gaming tables, the same cardboard cutout characters sit or stand with each other perpetually as a droid rolls between the aisles with presumably free drinks. Am I in Star Wars, or at the slots in some poorly-lit third-rate Las Vegas casino?

A recently added ship combat system refreshes the game with various space-based Star Wars assets (Star Destroyers, the Millenium Falcon, various X-Wing and TIE fighters), tied to their respective characters in the core game. Same stuff, different parsec. Sound and visual effects are the best thing about the fleet events, and as with characters abilities and meshing them is next best, and that's sad, but then how exciting can things possibly be when you have two capital ships and two sets of five fighters each set facing each other for "thrilling" turn-based combat? Not much.

People with a lot of disposable income (good job, generous or oblivious parents, new lottery winners) and few scruples gaming-wise might be perfectly fine with doing what back in the day would be equivalent to cracking open a hex editor, tweaking a few bits of your character data on a game disc, and from there gaining unlimited lives or maximum stats or other perks which lead any challenge or fun for the game to instantly evaporate.

    Save your money.

Play free for an hour or two daily at most. Enjoy the vicarious thrill of electrocuting Rebel scum with Emperor Palpatine's lightning, or slicing through stormtroopers with gore-free, anatomically-incorrect and unsatisfying strokes of your Jedi's light saber. If you join a guild, enjoy a rare opportunity every so often to battle a ridiculously annoying retinue of Gammorean guards and then eventually the dreaded Rancor for money and prizes, important among those various pieces and parts available elsewhere throughout the game (and required in ever-increasing numbers) to upgrade your characters' abilities through gear aka mods. Wash, rinse, repeat.

If you're young enough and new enough to gaming to be convinced that this is the norm, I assure you, it isn't. It's a cash grab, it's driven by GREED, not passion.

The only thing I can see from paying to win in this game, as someone who works for a living and doesn't have fistfuls of money to throw around, is buyer's remorse.

The shard drop rates are ridiculously ranging from 5 to 330 shards (330 is a maxed toon), but almost never will you get more than 10 from a pack (hence the final sum of around a grand). This random distribution is real gambling, should not be legally allowed to exist in a non-gambling game. Before one could acquire great characters through actually playing the game, by now CG has mastered the ways of extorting money from players. When a regular character threatened their business schemes in a single small segment of the game inaccessible to most players, they went and shamelessly nerfed that character to become useless in all aspects of the game. And they pretend to listen to player feedback while they do not, unless you’re some well nown whale I guess. RIP nightsister acolyte. Expand
