Oct 4, 2011When it comes to sci-fi/western mash-up arcade games, I can't think of a better example than Pixel Ranger. It's just simply… endearing.
-
Oct 6, 2011Pixel Ranger's presentation can't be faulted, and it offers a stern arcade challenge for those who are skilful enough to master its occasionally taxing control system.
-
Oct 4, 2011A competent game, with some nice mechanics, a decent control scheme, and a well executed nostalgic presentation. It may be too simple and bare bones for some, but others will find themselves caught up in the dance of blasting aliens, and collecting their pixels.

Sep 30, 2011Pixel Ranger has been a blast to play for a few years now, and this new iPhone version is no exception. Even better, though, is that Pixel Ranger on the iPhone ends up feeling more like a sequel than a simple adaptation. There's more structure, more power-ups, more modes – more of everything.

Oct 17, 2011Pixel Ranger tries to offer a twist on a standard shooter, but while it does work, the chaotic controls greatly hinder it. Though it only has a few problems, these problems prevent it from being a classic.

Nov 24, 2011With its stylish graphics and a couple of interesting ideas, Pixel Ranger looks great at the beginning. Shame that it's spoiled by awful controls and punishing checkpoints.
-
Oct 29, 2011But tilt to move and directional fire (that demands you hit multiple targets with single shots to survive) and tap to jump too often feels like juggling while already juggling. This drags the game down from a must-have to a guarded recommendation.

Oct 2, 2011Excluding the wonky jumping mechanic, I like all of the ideas in Pixel Ranger. Its look and style, its enemies, its attrition-based vertical shooting, and its power-ups are strong parts of a whole that, unfortunately, doesn't feel cohesive.
