After just playing through the whole series of 4 kingdom rush games again for the 3rd or 4th time I think vengeance is the best in the series. While the elven theme in Origins was my favorite theme, this game added many new mechanics that were fun like leveling the heroes and different towers. The thing I didn't like is that they took away upgrades for individual towers, and grouped tower upgrades into one group, hero upgrades into another group, then spell upgrades, and then the reinforcements upgrade..taking away individual tower upgrades largely subtracted from the nostalgic experience. It would have been cool if kept those upgrades and gave more upgrade points.

They introduce of bit of branching in the upgrade tree...but very little and too conservative. However these multiple changes add up to make for some thing that at its core is kingdom rush, but an overall increase in gameplay and fun, as a sequel ought to be.

These guys are the best at tower defense games. I hope they make more and bring back the individual tower upgrades.

I'm kind of wary of their new turn based games...

I also got their iron marines game...that game was probably the least fun of their games, but decent considering there aren't many similar games like it on ios.

    本作秉承了系列一贯的动作塔防特点,颇具可玩性。额外值得一提的是本作正反双方互换,用以往严防死守的兵种来对付当年的子弟兵,不得不说也是妙趣横生。

As a long term fan of the Kingdom Rush series, I was thrilled to see a new game arrive. Short answer is that it's fantastic, a welcome addition to the franchise.

The game has some controversy around it because you can now not only buy extra heroes (as per previous games) but towers too. Whilst this sounds odd at first, it makes sense. There are more towers than previously (if you buy no towers, you'll still have more to play with than in previous games) but they're purely optional, in fact, they appear to be weaker options than the free ones. To me, it's purely a way of adding extra options / longevity into the gameplay. There's absolutely no need to spend a penny on any of them. For me, they were an instabuy as I love the devs work.

As for the game itself, if you've played the earlier games, you'll find yourself in similar territory but with a couple of differences.

Firstly, instead of playing as the goodies against the baddies, this time around, you are the baddies which adds a fun spin on things, bringing lots of new characters and styles to the table.

Secondly, instead of just having basic towers that you upgrade throughout the game, this time you get to choose which towers you want to use, rotating for variety as you see fit. This adds a new level of depth that should keep things fresh for longer. There's also more powerup options than there were before and again, you have choice over which you use.

Graphically, the game is gorgeous, with more detail than ever before.

In conclusion, a fantastic game, building on Ironhide's previous efforts. Highly recommended.

Ultimately, Kingdom Rush: Vengeance provides players with a competent tower defense title that stands out from the saturated genre thanks to its colourful art style, quirky story beats and its role-reversal on good versus evil.

Vengeance’s 12 or so hours of entertainment are joyous, and speeding through them with paid upgrades is a fool’s errand. This is still the very pinnacle of the Tower Defense genre and even if you completely ignore its microtransactions, it’s a superb game.

The content included in the game is absolutely worth the purchase price, and I didn't feel like I missed out on much by not spending more. The game is intensely engaging with a light-hearted tone that makes it a real pleasure to jump in to. Tweaks to the Kingdom Rush formula should please long-time fans and jaded TD players who have seen everything. If you're new to this kind of game, Vengeance is a great, entertaining jumping off point.
