    As a long time fan of the Kingdom Rush franchise, I am skipping that one due to the horrendous IAP model. Ironhide have pushed IAPs further and further in the past, but they have finally crossed the line with towers as IAP.

Ironhide have pushed IAPs further and further in the past, but they have finally crossed the line with towers as IAP.

    First of all, remember the game is not f2p, but has a regular price for a mobile game. Yet Ironhide have decided to squeeze as much money out of the players as they can, by expanding the cash shop further and further.
    We are now at a point where the additional towers pack or a single hero can cost more than the entire game. What's next? Reinforcements cost cash? Hero special abilities have to be paid for?

    The main argument I hear is that the game can be finished without the new towers. While technically that is correct, Ironhide lock almost a third of available towers away. This is a tower defense game, towers are the core of the game. Imagine not having access to 1/3 of the weapons in PUBG and being told "well, you can win without them". Or FIFA locking 1/3 of the Premier League clubs unless you pay extra cash. The **** would be gigantic, yet only mobile gamers seem to have to put up with these horrible business models.

    Cash shops in full price games are a terrible trend. Every gamer should boycott this to send a message to the devs.    … Expand

    Developers have upended core concepts (eg. ironman challenges rewarding meaningful stars) to push pay-to-win heroes and towers. Core game is very dull as a result, since there are no new towers being introduced for each new level.

    Apple's charges a 30% commission on anything sold on the app store, so I feel sorry for devs who have to resort to desperate tactics to overcome this huge    Developers have upended core concepts (eg. ironman challenges rewarding meaningful stars) to push pay-to-win heroes and towers. Core game is very dull as a result, since there are no new towers being introduced for each new level.

    This poor showing confirms that mobile gaming is basically just a huge exploitative mess, and that the only good games are on PC and console.

    At least the game is not as bad as the awful Iron Marines.

    Edit: Apple will not endorse a refund, so I have lowered this to zero stars.

    Ultimately, Kingdom Rush: Vengeance provides players with a competent tower defense title that stands out from the saturated genre thanks to its colourful art style, quirky story beats and its role-reversal on good versus evil.

    Vengeance’s 12 or so hours of entertainment are joyous, and speeding through them with paid upgrades is a fool’s errand. This is still the very pinnacle of the Tower Defense genre and even if you completely ignore its microtransactions, it’s a superb game.

    The content included in the game is absolutely worth the purchase price, and I didn't feel like I missed out on much by not spending more. The game is intensely engaging with a light-hearted tone that makes it a real pleasure to jump in to. Tweaks to the Kingdom Rush formula should please long-time fans and jaded TD players who have seen everything. If you're new to this kind of game, Vengeance is a great, entertaining jumping off point.
