The second game in the series introduces a new world, new characters and something that would become a trademark of the series: innovation.

The story focuses on the conflict between the hostile Empire of Palamecia and the rebel resistance. A small group of heroes is all that stands between the world and ruin.

FINAL FANTASY II demonstrates the developers' willingness to push their boundaries and try new things. For example, rather than sticking to the predictable, the game features a proficiency system in which characters skill with weapons and abilities increase the more they used them.

Fun fact: this is the FINAL FANTASY game that introduced the world to chocobos! Now that's a legacy.

Final Fantasy II Pixel Remaster is a lovely remake of a game that people tend to either love or hate. Its strongest element is arguably its story, and that’s why I feel it’s hurt so much by cutting the excellent extra content added in the Game Boy Advance version. With that in mind, I think it’s best to stick with the old version of the game if you already own it and it still works. This new version is more modern in its presentation and UI, and ultimately it will be the one that survives. It’s also the only one you can buy now, so if you want to play Final Fantasy II it’s this or nothing. I enjoy the game, but you will need to be willing to put up with its eccentricities if you seek to do the same.

I want to play classic Final Fantasy games on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, not on PC or smartphones.

The game seems to be such a faithful remaster, but its missing one key part, it does not play on consoles, yet strangely the original did. iThe game seems to be such a faithful remaster, but its missing one key part, it does not play on consoles, yet strangely the original did. i will keep trying to play it on console, but i dont expect them to fix this anytime soon.

To be clear Square Enix told its fans they might make it available on consoles if demand was high enough, this is the only way i can make that demand known.
