    If you have even the slightest fondness for Dragon Quest, or RPGs in general, Dragon Quest VIII will be a worthy addition to your mobile games library.

    Focused as it is on simply giving players a good time, Dragon Quest VIII enjoys an X-factor quality and remains fun on the iPad despite the very odd choice to force players to play the game on an odd and uncomfortable device orientation.

    If you happen to have fond memories of mid-aught nights spent exploring green fields and fighting whimsical fantasy creatures – and you don’t mind learning to cope with a crappy camera and frustrating navigation – then by all means, spend away. There’s still a good, lengthy, old-school RPG buried under all the problems introduced by this iOS edition.

    Without the weight of tradition behind it, flattening out your finger hitting “Fight wisely” just feels like cow-clicking. Personally, I’d rather spend that time elsewhere.

    Sacrific[es] a lot of what made the original game so memorable in its quest to fit on the mobile platform. It's playable, but only just. It certainly does not come recommended.

    Although in theory it's a great step forward to have a game like Dragon Quest VIII on your tablet/phone, but the reality showed me that mobileAlthough in theory it's a great step forward to have a game like Dragon Quest VIII on your tablet/phone, but the reality showed me that mobile gaming still has a way to go.

    It's basically the original, so why such a low score?

    - The framerate is really poor and will agitate the everyday gamer that is used to smooth processing.

    - Voice acting is largely absent, and the orchestral soundtrack is not included. It feels like a butchered experience.

    - Controls are quirky but that is to be expected with the controller's absence. I never really was able to get used to it though.

    If you really want to play this game, I recommend firing up the emulator and playing it there. This version really doesn't do the game justice, and makes it seem average (when the original is top notch).    … Full Review »

    Dragon Age 8 has never looked better! The screen format is kinds strange, but it does not take long to get use to it and it works well enough. The touch controls are surprisingly solid, but sometimes you have to fight with the camera a bit. As for the gameplay... its just as good as the old PS2 version but it looks way better on the Retina screen of the iPad Mini 2.

    Because of the weird screen format, touch controls not as good as a gamepad, and they took out all the voice acting, I give this iteration of DQ8 a solid 8 out of 10.    … Full Review »
