  1. At the end of the day, I found myself coming back to this version of Wreckless (over the Xbox version) because it has more options and winds up being more fun (even though there’s still some frustration to cut through). I know I seem to be in a minority, but I still liked Wreckless.

The addition of weapons and two-player missions are welcome indeed. [Jan 2003, p.78]
  3. Nintendo Power

The story loses something in its translation from Japanese, but the game play is still crazy fun. [Feb 2003, p.155]
  4. An average arcade demolition game that does have a good range of features but suffers from game play that is basically the same thing over and over.
  5. With how quick the missions move, the whole thing gets glazed over. Having the graphics of the Xbox game could have really benefited this port. Multiplayer mode does not save the title, only hurts its image.
  6. How on earth doesn’t this game have a simple auto-save feature?
  7. Frustration is high when playing Wreckless, time limits are short, and the arrow is useless when it points through a brick wall, controls can be awkward and traffic is dense and irritating, never feeling the need to move out of the way of the large truck heading down the wrong lane.

The fact is that there are games on both the PS2 and GameCube that easily outclass this one in everything it sets out to do.

While it doesn't look nearly as good as it did on Xbox, it plays a lot better on the 'Cube with added difficulty, all-new adventures (including Dragon romps) and rocket power! [Dec 2002, p.84]

You aren't going to get a lot of replay value out of it, but if you like things a little on the "quirky" side of gaming, at least give it a test drive.
  11. The biggest gripe I have is that the game lacks analog control over acceleration and braking.
  12. Without the gorgeous visuals to distract from its troublesome gameplay mechanics and simplistic mission objectives, Wreckless doesn't have much going for it.
  13. Now with the loss of those overachieving looks and through the passage of time, no amount of bonus missions or unlockables can make up for the lack of engaging gameplay.
  14. 31
A mere shadow of its Xbox counterpart.
  15. GameNow

All told, I wouldn't wish this game on my worst enemy. [Jan 2003, p.61]
  16. Whatever the mission, the same problems rear their ugly head. The gameplay is dire; you don’t even want to see what the second mission is, let alone get to the end. The graphics are atrociously bad -- perhaps the worst on the GameCube.

The missions in Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions are okay but they are pointless after you complete them with a gold star. The graphics and controls are okay, but I didn't care for the story and the multi-player is pointless. Full Review »

I find the story to be a bit bland, but the gameplay can is fun, and exciting. I enjoy the varied amount of vehicles a lot. I was dissapointed by the multiplayer. I thought it was new, but not really...fun...at all. This early next generation game is pretty good. Full Review »
