Game InformerI'll be the first to admit that SUmmoner has a few problems; but, for whatever reason, I am utterly mesmerized by it. [Apr 2003, p.88]
-
With over thirty hours of playtime and dozens upon dozens of side-quests, it will definitely keep you busy.
-
A very linear game, but combines smooth graphical elements and excellent sound to deliver a wonderful experience.
-
Playing and loving this game requires a certain ability to ignore its weaker technical qualities and instead embrace its unique construct and lengthy, epic quest.
-
I cannot stress the genius of the games real-time, party based combat, which offers a far more satisfying combat play than the "Aidyn Chronicles" could ever achieve.
-
Despite the clumsier controls, the GameCube version has the PS2 version beat simply because the graphics look cleaner and the frame rate is better.
-
Play MagazineA big, sweeping epic with a deep party and magic system, a fully fleshed out universe, gorgeous locales and excellent character models. [May 2003, p.63]
-
Cheat Code CentralIt's traditional RPG stuff but this game has just the right amount of depth to satisfy fanatics while appealing to new recruits. It's a lengthy, well-balanced adventure that is sure to satisfy your RPG cravings.
-
Delivers a fun hack and slash adventure that will keep you entertained for a good while. Any one looking for a fun game to pick up for less than $50 would do well to check it out.
-
The underlying game... remains quite good and features a strong cast of characters, unusual environments, and some pretty entertaining hack-and-slash combat.
-
Nintendo PowerA lot of great ideas went into the game, but a clumsy battle system and frustrating camera prevent the game from realizing its full potential. [Mar 2003, p.135]
-
Maias running animation is perhaps the silliest any main character in a game that was not intentionally funny has ever possessed.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyThe game's combat fails to impress. This button-mashing free-for-all brawling just isn't very engrossing. [Mar 2003, p.134]
-
Think of it as PSO I+II though not as good and minus the online features. Make of that what you will.
-
The story and characterization are better than in most console RPGs. But we were left wondering why these rookie mistakes are in a game with so much promise.
-
I disagree with the "improved" character design, feel irked by the hateful camera, and in all, the game has aged in the short time between the PS2 and the Gamecube.
-
A Goddess Reborn isn't the greatest RPG. It's not even the best one on the Gamecube. But, for those looking for a good story and a change of pace gameplay-wise, this title proves to be good enough.
-
A poor camera system slipped though the cracks that keep it from being a remembered classic.
-
I'd much rather play as a horny male chauvinist in an engrossing game than as a strong woman in a bad one. Playing the part of a warrior queen should be fun, but my enthusiasm was gone by the time I beat the game's final boss. "I never have to play this again," I thought. "Thank God(dess)."
