All told, Creature from the Krusty Krab is the most ambitious and most successful SpongeBob game to date. [Dec. 2006, p.112]
  2. As it stands, SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab won't hold the attention of older games for very long. Younger gamers will probably be entertained by the loopy level designs and crazy objectives.

Bad writing, average graphics, poor sound and gameplay with seemingly no direction and little resemblance to the Bikini Bottom world combine to bog down a really good storyline concept and what could have been a good platform adventure game, but instead feels like sections of platform adventure jumbled with poor flying and racing.

I'll give em this: It's never boring, always whacked out of its mind, and the control throughout delivers...Nunchuk or not. So in closing, may the Sponge be with you. [Dec. 2006, p.62]
  5. While this isn't a bad game, it isn't a good game, either. The designers went to some effort to make things different, but the end effect doesn't work.

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. What a fun game to play! First, I managed to make SpongeBob punch somebody larger than him, and then race against the ugliest version of our favorite starfish. Then, Patrick became a superhero, probably my favorite part. The second level is made in the style of a comic book, and you must fight The Dreaded Patrick (a tip of the hat to Homer Simpson, in no way at all, except for how Homer loathes himself). Plankton also gets to run away from a giant Krabby Patty. Then, you play the game inside an Alaskan Bullworm, from the episode "SpongeBob, Sandy, and the Worm". then, you race through space on a rocket with Starfishman. Then, you zap buildings as monster Plankton (the predecessor of Giga Bowser). There are some boring parts of the last 3 levels (7-9), but the game is saved by the final racing level, along with the cool endings. Anyway, this is probably the best SpongeBob video game ever. To start, if you like SpongeBob this game has a lot of same humor and writing that you will probably like. The music is fine. The game offers a lot of variety, there are standard platforming levels in both 2D and 3D, endless runner levels, kart racing, spaceship shooters, and even a Kaiju themed city destruction level. There are also a lot of collectibles and cool things like trailers for SpongeBob merch and upcoming games, which is really neat looking back at the game 20 or so years later. The minigames are decent, but a lot control awkwardly. The main problems this game suffers from are the length of the levels, and one massive glitch. All of the levels go on for so so long and are extremely repetitive. This makes the game very long but very slow and tedious, and is a massive cause of the problems this game faces. The story is decently interesting, but oh? You wanted to see the ending? Well that massive glitch I mentioned says otherwise. Upon clearing the final level, the game cuts to black and will not load the ending nor the credits, and requires you to reset the console to return to the main menu. This may be exclusive to the GameCube version, but still a massive problem. Full Review »

Fun levels and nice art direction. I like being able to play as a giant Plankton one minute and then as Spongebob in the stomach of a bull worm.
