Play MagazineThis game is, simply put, brilliant. The music is intoxicating, the locales magical and the overall vibe decidedly dreamy. [Dec 2003, p.77]
-
Great graphics and a breathtaking soundtrack put it right at the top of the 2003 holiday heap. Everything in this game comes together beautifully.
-
You've got an awesome fantasy setting (which is really well realised), two characters with original and familiar styles of play, platforming, awesome visuals, 20-hours of gameplay, and something that The Wind Waker didn't have; A decent challenge.
-
Some decent voice acting would have added just that much more to the feel and presentation of this title – so I was disappointed when I realized it was just going to be a text delivery system for the story.
-
It provides the type of Zelda thrills you would expect with excellent puzzles and a truly enjoyable game world. Slight deficiencies do announce themselves, including a game-killing glitch 1/3 of the way through, a lackluster final boss and a rushed ending that just screams "Sequel!"
-
Truly a great game. It's one of the best adventure titles for the Gamecube, and one that was horribly unnoticed.
-
netjakWe've been playing games almost exactly like this (though not nearly as pretty) ever since the PlayStation/Nintendo 64 days. While the graphics and audio are just above average, compared to its contemporaries, Sphinx is a rather anachronistic play experience that falls short when seen next to some of the more brilliant and innovative platformers (e.g. "Jak II") around today.
