  1. It's really a case of great game additives making up for mediocre game design.
  2. All credit to Midway for trying their luck with the football market, but they should have left things up to the big boys; ‘FIFA’, ‘ISS’ and ‘PES’.
  3. Definitely more fun multiplayer than alone, I'm still not sure how long you'll want to play this one after the novelty wears off.
  4. All of the elements of the game are pretty sound, but it occupies a strange place in the sport... too exagerrated for sim fans and not exegerated enough for some arcade fans.
  5. It goes into slightly more realistic territory without sacrificing the fun, easy-to-learn gameplay that most of Midway's sports games possess.
  6. It may not have the totally outrageous antics of NFL Blitz, or NHL Hitz, but it does thrive on contact, speed and transition.
  7. Holds it own as a fun, easy to pick up soccer title.

The ability to smack players around, power-up, and cover more field with lots of frantic exchanges of possession makes RedCard entertaining.
  9. Nintendo Power

Serious soccer fans should like it as much as casual fans looking for a fast-paced game. [Aug 2002, p.143]
  10. Midway should’ve opted for smaller teams rather than 11 on 11 play. Think of Hitz, Blitz or Jam. This was a major game design folly here.
  11. A game which while enjoyable at first, is neither all out brutal or skill–full enough a simulation to make you want to hone either your fighting or football skills for months to come.
